- Today, I discuss Honkai: Star Rail's v1.6 Character Ruan Mei, and why you should not skip Ruan Mei for Sparkle. There has been a good amount of debate regarding how good Ruan Mei is, and what she offers that is worthwhile for players to pull for. Ruan Mei has been compared to multiple current and future harmony characters some being Bronya and Sparkle. As for what Ruan Mei offers, she is a brand new Ice Harmony Character who focuses on increasing the damage of allies, increasing allies' speed, increasing weakness break efficiency of the team, delaying enemies, and much more! Her banner consists of Ruan Mei, Xueyi, Tingyun, and March 7th and will be the first phase of version 1.6, and I go over why we shouldn't undervalue Ruan Mei's Potential.

Tbh I'm kinda scared for sparkle they nerfed a big part of her now I feel like she isn't worth it 😭😔😭
IDK, it feels like ALL videos of Ruan Mei that pops into my TL are talking about how great she is Chapter 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. 5... Like they're all the same videos, sometimes multiple videos by the same creators.
Then, I was wondering where they are getting these community reactions/comments (discord maybe) that Sparkle/Bronya is better or skip her.

Example
About 10 videos are about 'Ruan Mei is Broken'
Then tomorrow,
10 videos about 'Is Ruan Mei better than Bronya?'
10 videos about 'Pre-release guide'
And for Ruan Mei, there's like twice the number of videos ever since HSR dropped her drip....
Sometimes, I base it on the quantity of videos saying the same thing over and over to prove that a character is good/I'll pull for them. In this special case, for Ruan Mei only, the contents are too many and it feels like it's too much already. Everyday there is a 'new' video again about hyping her... I am growing tired of the endless discussions about her.. i might change my mind.
@@kpop_mellow Ruan Mei being the first limited Harmony unit definitely plays into the overhyping. My advice is to not let the community's hyping up Ruan Mei ruin your impression of her especially since she's coming very soon. Best to keep a neutral outlook and wait for Ruan Mei's actual release, play her trial quest and if anyone on your friends list already have her take her out for a spin.
After that if you like what she does or even her character in the upcoming events with her release, roll for her. And if not then save your jades.
its honestly never a good idea to skip a clearly good character for someone else who's kit hasn't fully been released. since Sparkle isn't going to release anytime soon yet, having both in a team wouldn't sound so bad
Her beta kit will be revealed in a few days, most likely January 4 or earlier cause that is closing date for 2.0 beta access

Thos who don't know What Sparkle does
1. Basic attack:- Deals 100% of Sparkle's ATK as Quantum DMG to a single target enemy.
2.Skill:- ncreases the CRIT DMG of an ally for a value equal to 36% of Sparkle's CRIT DMG +16% for 1 turns, and also Advances the unit's action Forward by 50%. (When Sparkle uses this ability on herself, the Action Advance will not trigger)
3.Ultimate:- Recovers 4 Skill Points for allies and grants them Cipher. Every ally with Cipher will increase the DMG dealt by Sparkle's Talent for an additional 10% per stack for 2 turns.
4.Talent:- When Sparkle is on the battlefield, increases the max number of Skill Points additionally by 2. When an ally consumes 1 Skill Point, it will increase the DMG of all allies by 6% for 2 turns. This effect can be stacked up to 3 times.
5. Technique:- Using the Technique grants all allies Stealth for 20s. Characters in Stealth will not be detected by enemies, and entering battle while in Stealth recovers 1 Skill Point(s) for all allies.
6.Bonus Ablilities:- (a)Increases all allies' CRIT Rate by 5%. When there are 1/2/3 Quantum characters in your team, all allies deal 5%/15%/30% more Quantum DMG. (b)The CRIT DMG Boost effect provided by the Skill lasts until the start of this unit's next turn. (c)When using Basic ATK, additionally regenerates 10 Energy.
As a day one player who took a break and missed Fu Xuan and Jungliu I was considering saving for their rerun. However even tho I'm not the biggest Ruan Mei fan I can still agree that she is a very useful character to have.

I think the whole "she's the first REAL MUST PULL" and "if you skip her your account is dead!" is really annoying and ruining some peoples experience with the community.
I say this because IM THE ONE WHOS ANNOYED, every single star rail CC is just going "you HAVE to pull her" and I understand why, however I just think going from "there is no MUST pull" immediately to "PULL HER NOW!" is not exactly the best thing.
I'm not saying she's overhyped since I've seen the leaks and DAMN she is universal and busted but I just think we all need to chill out and not hype to the point of some people who are susceptible to FOMO whaling because they are too anxious their account will "be bad for not having her" which if anyone is still reading all this your account will be FINE without her, yes she's great but don't pull just because you were told to only pull if YOU want them.
Like I've got hardly any money or jades and I'm just going for Xueyi on my main and for my other account I'm saving for Black Swan for my DOT team. If I happen to get Mei then GREAT if I don't ill be sad but in like 5 months another character will come along people will go "PULL NOW!" and the whole things starts again,
TLDR: Mei is REALLY strong and if you want her then pull her if you don't then don't, your account is fine with or without her, but the community needs to calm the fuck down because literally a week ago people were like "there is no MUST PULL character" and now its all FOMO bait.
I get what reasonable people like you are saying and while there really isn't a must pull she is pretty much the unit you really should pull. If you don't your account isn't bad, but man... It would be so much stronger and more enjoyable. She's the only unit I've seen where I would say must pull, but there is always reruns. I just think if you skip now you might regret it. Don't want ppl to go into debt, but at the end of the day ppl need to be responsible for themselves. Can't blame CC for talking honestly about their opinions on the game.

@@xenoemblem7 1000%! It's easy to say "they will come back" and do you know how many ppl said that about Blade and now look at him? He's still a great unit, nothing has changed, he's arguably gotten better, especially once Ruan Mei drops. But there's a problem.... HE'S ON RUAN MEI'S BANNER! Lol. So, unless you saved a TON it's probably another skip on Blade for those that wanted him.
For me I really want Fu Xuan on ideally both my accounts, but she's most likely dropping in 2.1... with Acheron so I gotta save if I want both. It's definitely not as easy when they keep dropping banger unit after banger unit.
This reminds me so much of when people were downplaying Huohuo’s value when she was released. As a new player back then, I tend to rely on veteran players’ input/advice. Fortunately for me, I didn’t listen and instead got Huohuo who is such a wonderful addition and investment for my account. I also feel the same way for Ruan Mei and I can’t wait to get her. This is also significant for me because Bronya hasn’t come home yet and Yanqing has cursed my account twice.
People downplayed HuoHuo because they had Luocha and Fu Xuan.
Yesss a lot of people downplayed and doomposted Huohuo pre-release and then post-release she skyrocketed her way to S tier.
People downplayed Fu Xuan. She completely changed how you play the game. She reliably and consistently makes your squishiest units unkillable.
It's usually the Bailu and Luocha mains who have beef with Huohuo.
Gepard and Fu Xuan mains are just sipping tea and drinking beer at the sides.
i have one rule that is aboslute for me and that is to summon for 1 broken healer that wont lose his vaule anytime soon so i can save as much jades and that just happend to be loucha so now im saving for the next healer that can do what loucha does plus more didnt summon for hou hou and fu xuan and dont play too have them.
Why is it a problem skipping a character? I think the sentiment that a unit is a must pull is way more problematic.
Saving to lose tagline is fairly clickbaity.
It’s an issue when it creates the idea that one character > other character when it’s a case by case basis on what teams/characters you actually have.

Additionally, yes the term “must pull” can also be seen as problematic. I don’t believe a character is a must pull unless you genuinely want them , then they can be considered a “must pull” to that individual based on their own interests
I agree with you if I don't like that character or I don't need that character then I am not going to pull for her/him there is nothing like must pull .
I like Ruan Mei introducing a new "Break Effect" Team comp and pairing her with Xueyi and Welt would be awesome! Add Bronya or a Sustainer and it might turn out great!
ruan mei could be a sustainer on her own. so a dual dps and dual support team could definitely work depending on the damage and break consistency by your characters

My problem with general content creators (not you specifically) is that every character is a must pull according to them. Even when a content creator has a small “cons of unit” section in their guides, the majority will push the narrative that if you don’t get this character your account will be bricked or you’re making the game harder for yourself. Some will even go so far as to say you’re stupid if you don’t pull for this or that unit, particularly support characters whether sustains or buffers. This is usually why I steer away from HSR content on YT because there aren’t many who aren’t interested in being real or considering that not everyone can pull on their so-called must pulls.
I will say, relying on leaked kits to make future pull decisions isn’t wise. Ruan Mei was niche before getting buffed into a more universal and especially multi dps comp buffer (she’s better in dual dps than hypercarry.) So until the unit is in a more finalized stage and closer to release, you shouldn’t bet on it 100%.
Personally, I don’t anticipate needing her to beat the game’s upcoming content, and I don’t like her design at all (we have DHIL at home) so me choosing to skip for Sparkle is more because of aesthetics and the potential fun (not power) factor the other unit might bring. RM will help players of all levels and I do think this time it’s fair to say she’s a solid pull for even f2p as she makes even the “mid tier” dps feel like top tier. But it also won’t be the end of the world if someone doesn’t pull her and I hope people aren’t getting into debt to attain characters meta/tier makers rank high.

There's a ton of UA-camrs who do exactly this, for sure, because it gives good analytics. People love watching hype videos on new characters! Hyping new DPS is usually bait, because there will always be a newer and stronger DPS in time, you're never going to "Brick your account" by not pulling for a DPS character.
HOWEVER, and this is a BIG however, there WILL be units that enable specific compositions, and open up new powerful team building options that would otherwise be absolute garbage. Ruan Mei, Kafka, Silver Wolf, and Topaz are three such units: if you want to play a Followup attack team, Topaz is going to be huge, because her buff is damage TAKEN, not a damage buff, scaling multiplicatively with the entirety of a followup attack's damage, and she is incredibly skill point positive to enable skill spamming. Kafka enables DoT teams, and until another unit comes out that can Detonate DoTs, she's going to be a mainstay on any DoT based team: she's effectively irreplaceable. Silver Wolf allows players who want to force content with their favorite characters to still break and efficiently kill enemies that they'd otherwise be walled against. Finally, Ruan Mei is the only character in the game so far that can fully support a multiple DPS at once, and enables a Break Effect based comp: without Ruan Mei, Dual DPS compositions are pretty subpar, casual at best and will likely not make it into clearing Floor 11 and 12 at full stars without Ruan Mei.
There aren't any "Must Pull" units in general, you can play the game without whoever you want, and with enough investment and the right scenario, any character can shine. Many characters just take MUCH, MUCH less investment to shine, and do so in far more scenarios, and a select few strategies WILL be effectively impossible without specific characters.
@@evanprimeau3810 about your tangent about duo dps supports I must disagree. A good pela will be able to have full uptime def shred same with sw and asta gives teamwide atk and speed shes still good but we do have other supports for duo dps
@@evanprimeau3810duo dps comps already 0 cycle MC 10 😂😂 you are tripping saying they’re casual at best... maybe they will not 0 cycle 11 and 12 but I’m sure duo DPS fully built will still 3 star easily... you are right that certain units enable comps especially Kafka and RM will def boost Duo DPS significantly it’s already viable without her and I don’t see how you can claim otherwise when it 0 cycles
@@user-vk4gm2qe3c The investment and Relic luck needed to 0 cycle with Duo DPS comps, and even NORMAL comps, is incredible. You do realize that a majority of the playerbase has difficulty even GETTING 30 stars in the current MoC, right? You're so caught up in your own subjective reality that you're blind to other people's. Just because I can 0 cycle with a 50/200% 136 speed Jingliu, 200% 134 speed Bronya, 174 Speed Pela, and 146 speed Luocha doesn't mean that's the norm for most players, and you shouldn't either.
Your definition of "Well Built" is many player's definition of Whale Build, where they'd assume you were doing TB Power refreshes and such. Some people just get shafted on relics, Lightcones, 50/50s, pity, all of it. MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT 0 CYCLING, and it's exhausting seeing elitists in these comment sections acting like everyone and their mother Min-maxes their daily progress and has in depth knowledge on Relic rolling strategies or how to speed tune. Just because you understand something does not make it common knowledge.
I think it's a pretty safe assumption that Sparkle will work in a mono quantum comp if that's what you're pulling her for. But yeah Ruan Mei is gonna be a great all around support.
sparkle is gonna be a predominant mono quantum team played and she’ll be an sp generator like hanya. so QQ and Seele are gonna shine better, but Mei and Broyna have an overall boost to any team. i already have every quantum character + every harmony, so i’ll be pulling for both.

She looks like a character that can be a huge help for people who need support if they lack certain elements. Shredding toughness will be so good for any team.
I'm skipping Ruan Mei cus I really really want Kafka and I know I'm skipping what is most likely a very powerful support .... But I missed Kafka's banner before and she was the reason I got into HSR. I could only save as many Jades as I can per patch without resorting to swiping. So I'd rather go for characters I really want to play then go for the obvious powerful ones besides reruns will happen.

this imo is the best approach when comes to pulling for a character, believe me, i skip luocha, fuxuan, huo huo even though all people says that it will make my account a lot better, but im doing just fine with natasha and lynx as my sustain character, im skipping SW eventhough all people says that she's a must pull because im fine with my pela.
skipping an OP character and go for your favorite character doesnt automatically brick your account, nor it makes you cant clear any end game content.

I just started playing but I have E1 Gepard, Huohuo E3 Qingque and Luka. Any suggestions as to who I should pull? I feel like I need a good DPS for my team
I think it's always good for the community to have healthy debates/dialogues abt the game, but i honestly don't get why Ruan Mei vs Bronya is a thing.
I personally think Ruan Mei is better in general, but better doesn't always mean one replaces the other.

They are good in their own loadouts
Bronya better for solo carry teams if you speedtune perfectly while ruan mei is really good for both, but if the enemies does some insane damage the break efficiency is really strong not taking damage is really good for the average player so i would not skip.
I have both of them insured because I can also have a lot of dps. How much damage will they do if together with the 3 plus any one dps.
I was wishing for Argenti, but I've decided to wait for Ruan Mei instead. I just returned to the game again after only playing at the beginning for like 2 months before stopping. She seems like she'll be an incredible benefit to my account. Supports are forever. DPS Is temporary. I might also try pulling for Blade after getting Ruan Mei, since I actually do need another DPS as well (Jing Yuan being the only other one I have). Thank God for a free Dr. Ratio just in case I don't get Blade.
EDIT: Xueyi looks amazing as well.

I always wait like a week to pull cause sometimes is just the hype and CC farming content. I will never downplay to fell better about my skip, but I also dont wanna be blind just because I like a character, like some JY mains :p

The two teams im investing in for end game right now are Kafka DoT and qingque mono quantum. So im currently biting my fingers unsure of what to do. As of now i have kafka, e6 sampo and houhou for DoT and e6 qingque, fu xuan and silverwolf for mono Q. Both could benefit from the two new 5 star harmony characters in different ways so sparkle is a yes already but I dont know which I should prioritize more for my DoT team being ruan mei and black swan since I already have e6 sampo fully invested. So Ruan mei feels like the more reasonable choice but Im genuinely unsure of how I should use my tickets.
for people who pulled for selee, fu xuan and bronya, sparkle is just a better pull to wait for just to complete the quantum team,,, but i wish i could get both of them tbh

That's not gonna be until 2.1... which is over 12 weeks away. You can afford to roll for Ruan Mei. We still have to have Jing Yuan and Loucha rerun in 2.0 first.

I LOVE RM’s kit and design, so I’m still pulling for her and her sig LC. I have Bronya too, so it’s perfect timing that I get another Harmony Queen character for my second team to use.

I think that this whole discussion shows that different opinions will always exist when it comes to defining a broken character, skip able character or anywhere in between.
Personally every harmony character that is released is something I will pull for. It’s the most interesting and flexible components in a team. From what I heard about the discussion is comparing her to Bronya. Now I’m a day 1 player that does not have her( will in 18 standard summons) but one character being able to better do 0 cycle is in my opinion a non issue. What character is going to make me have more fun during a 10 cycle clear is more important.😅

Just my thoughts on the title alone, the Bronya argument is null because if anything, having a second Bronya-tier character is broken as hell, and Sparkle will most likely serve a completely different purpose compared to what Bronya and Ruan Mei can do
i agree she is good but most people treat her as a must have and if you skip your account is ruined, which just isnt true, thats most likely where people saying skip stems from, becuase there is an even louder group stating the exact opposite, just my opinion

@@karmatsukashi7574i still dont understant why some people keep pushing the idea of "must pull" unit in a pve only game, it happen a lot in genshin with kazuha, nahida etc and it also happen during sw first banner iirc, afaik we dont even have a single content which can only be cleared unless you have this one specific character, its just a luxury and not a necessity, most of the times people just follow a cc blindly without even understant the basic of the gameplay, so at the end you have a lot of people parroting the same thing the cc says when in reality every account is different.
But it is true. Many of yous do not actually play this game properly. Swarm mode proved that multiple times. :3
My only problem with her is I don't have enough stellar jade to guarantee getting her or Sparkle. I'm building a mono quantum team since I managed to pull for SW. Prob gonna wait and see tho since we are getting new content. Hopefully I manage to get her while fishing for Xueyi.
Im going to wait till the last few days of Ruan Mei banner and see Sparkle’s kit. Leaning towards if the 4 stars on sparkle banner will be better than Ruan Mei’s banner.
I would love to get Ruan Mei but I wanted Kafka as soon as I saw her and I lost my 50 50 on her the first time and couldn't get her at the time. Now that I saw that she is getting a rerun I am seriously considering to skip Mei for Kafka and what's left I will save or maybe pull black swan cuz she is pretty 😂and if her kit is really dot based could guarantee that I will get her. I already have bronya and I will probably get Mei on her rerun if I can. But if I will see there is still a lot of time until black swan and the next rerun of mei
Around 7:30 - i agree with You on that. Eventually, pull whoever you want. I realize that there are certain laws of the game that can make your gameplay easier and more convenient. But, do we have to be always very technical about stats? Do we have to have strong opinons on who to choose and who is the best? Not really, i like to focus on having fun from the game.
Me myself - i will try pulling for Ruan Mei and trying to get Sparkle - but if i dont get one of them or i get none of them, it is ok for me. It is nice, but a game afteral.
I personally think that Ruan Mei is a very strong/good character but I prefer Soarkle since I like to play mono quantum, if someone isn’t gonna pull for Sparkle I’d recommend them to pull for Ruan Mei but in the end of the day it isn’t our choice, for who people pull for.
Do note, Ruan Mei had a 40% atk buff on E1 on beta before release. However, while the characters do suffer changes from "leaks", they don't change THAT much. She also used to buff speed with her skill instead of her passive while providing damage buff with her passive instead of skill. These 2 got switcheroo'ed.
Meaning, we will have an overall idea of what patch 2.0 characters do 1-3 days in 1.6.
Yes the numbers might not be the best. Yes the traces might change, yes what the skill buffs might change a bit. But its not going to be HUGE difference where you won't recognize it anymore.
So yes, while it will not be EXACTLY like that, it will be very similar to what's going to be leaked.
I personally skipped HuoHuo in order to save for Ruan Mei - based on initial data. And I don't regret my decision.
That being said, pull whomever you think will be good for you :)
You don't "need" every character to have fun in the game or clear all content in this game.
I also think Ruan Mei is going to be great and will facilitate "no healer" team comps for some game content
Idk what you're talking about. The changes she got, and she got A LOT from her original leaked kit, buffed her massively. I went from seeing her original beta stuff and thinking "eh, it's good but not a must have" to "Holy shit she's broken!" Kits and strength definitely vary greatly from original leak to release.

After using her Skill, Ruan Mei gains "Overtone" that lasts for 2 turn(s). The duration of this state decreases by 1 at the start of Ruan Mei's each turn. When Ruan Mei has "Overtone," all allies' SPD icnreases by 16% and Weakness Break Efficiency increases by 50%.
Current expected stats:
Skill - lv 10
Skill "Overtone" lasts 3 turns. Buffs Ally DMG by 32% and Weakness Break Efficiency by 50%
14 Nov leak
Ult - lv 10
Ruan Mei opens up a field that lasts for 2 turns and reduces by 1 at the start of each turn.
Increases All-Type PEN for all allies inside the field by 20%, applying Seamrend to every enemy hit.
Seamrend extends Weakness Break duration for enemies trying to recover from it, plus also delays action for 15% of Ruan Mei's Break Effect + 10% while dealing additional Ice DMG equal to 150% of Ruan Mei's Ice Break DMG.
Enemy targets cannot have Seamrend re-applied until recovering from Weakness Break.
Current expected kit:
Ult - lv 10
Field lasts 2 turns, each turn her turn stars its reduced by 1.
25% all type res pen for all allies. Applying rebloom to enemy when you hit them. Which does pretty much the same thing as before but the numbers are 20% 10% and 50% as opposed to 15% 10% 150%

@@serikazero128 I would argue the all type pen and the flat, up to, 36% damage is a massive buff. She functions very similarly with how she plays, but those changes she got are not small. She went from great unit to OP/God tier.

Ruan Mei was a generalist buffer for the entire team that facilitates breaking enemies and keeping them weakness broke.
This did not change. How well she does her job has indeed changed.
And as far as I've seen in Genshin and Star Rail this is pretty accurate for like 90-99% of the things they release.
The leaks are not how the character will end up, it shows a general view of the character. And that's some good information, it helps in making decisions on who to wish for.
@@serikazero128 fair enough. I just wouldn't decide to pull or not pull based off original leaks. I would wait until the final version in the dreams is done. And then be sure. I think Jing Yuan ran into a problem where he was considered great and then hit was some last minute nerfs. Not that he's bad, but he could've been even stronger.
When looking at sparkle's leaked kit the thing that strikes me as strange more than anything else is just how similar her skill is to bronya's. I half expect it to work somewhat differently upon release even if the result is rather similar. Also the translations ive seen that specifically snub QQ when it comes to her synergies with sp consumption also seem kinda suspect to me considering how many people want sparkle to be their mono quantum support.

I just got Ruan Mei for my Jing Yuan, Topaz, Huo Huo follow up team. The dual DPS feels really great! I think Ruan Mei's versatility makes more characters viable and changes the meta. Sparkle looks like she will just enable more of the same hyper-carry. I will hopefully have time to save for her on my Mono Quantum team as I have Seele, Silver Wolf, and Fu Xuan already (my account is blessed!)

I just started playing and I'm f2p. I have alot of characters I want but I can't have too many of them, my main problem is that I really like Blade, Kafka and Jing yuan and would like to try getting all 3 but everyone is saying to pull Ruan mei now. I don't like her as much as them and I already have Bronya so should I pull her? or wait for a rerun when I have my other 3? (I'm on guarantee bc I lost my 50/50 on Silverwolf's banner so I still don't have any limited characters and use Dan heng as my main dps)
Pull for you favorite characters first and then try to make good teams around them. Ruan Mei wil rerun soon anyway, the first rerun is always quick. If you skip blade and kafka now you'll be waiting for a while.

I’ll be running Ruan Mei, E2 S1 Bladie, Jing Liu, and Lynx for my first team. I love playing Blade with Jing Liu so now I’ll just give my Bronya to the other team which will be E1 S1 Bronya, Fu Xuan, Seele, and Tingyun/Pela.
First team would benefit more from replacing lynx with pela/other support since with JL and ruan mei together you no longer need sustain if you break enough.

I'm skipping ruan mei because I really want sparkle for seele and already have bronya. While I really love her design, I feel that skipping her will be more beneficial for my account in the long run. If I had more patches in between, I would definitely try pulling for her.
I see zero reason why skipping her can be beneficial to any account, tbh it's only the opposite. I also understand not everyone wanna play meta for the sake of meta, they play who they have fun with and that's awesome.

I’m skipping Rush Mei for two very crucial reasons. 1, she’s not a husbando. 2, I can’t afford to pull for her and Sparkle, and I’m choosing Sparkle simply for design as well as me not really just being interested in Mei’s kit
i would say im shocked that people are trashing ruan mei, but the same people thought Hanya was mid even after reading her kit. i think this community is a little off or just cant contextualize how good something is unless someone else tells them so.
I think the problem is they keep hearing about how insane she is and have reached this point of denial lol. Like every content creator is paid off or something. It's like "No guys. Read the kit. Now read it again. Okay now look at the numbers (from dreams). Okay now tell me how she isn't a must pull."
I don't think CC like telling anyone there is a must pull and I get it. Everyone's account is different and wants different things. I can tell them tho: if you skip you WILL regret it.

Not to a point of spending money you don't have, but if you care about meta and/or just having an easier time clearing content this is a unit you will want to have period. If a person can't control their spending that's on them, not the CC's. Gacha games in general are predatory, so if you can't control yourself then you shouldn't be playing.
My plan is to wait for black swans kit then determine if im pulling ruan mei or not, atm I'm running fire mc, houhou, sampo, and Kafka and plan to continue with it till maybe black swan in which sampo will go bye bye
I like the fact that Ruan meis buffs are unique besides the dmg% buffs which while they are basic and not unique they are the strongest buff of all of them I also like how she has pretty much 100% uptime while still being skill point positive and that's why I will try to pick her up on both of my 2 accounts even though I originally didn't want to on my alt but she's too good to miss
My biggest problem is that i dont build BE on all of my DPS. So do i have to farm relics all over a gain if i use RuanMei ???
You’ll mainly want BE for ruan Mei your dps characters can stay the same
Break eff relics are very easy to get. If you don't have any, use random relics that does have break eff until you can complete a full 4 piece set. I too am pulling Ruan Mei last minute after Sunday's kit just got leaked. I was NOT planning to get her.
Hoyoverse released DPS characters left and right in the previous patches. I'm already happy with my DPS roster (Blade, Seele, Clara, IL Daniel Heng) and I'm clearing content with no issues. I've decided to pull for support characters next. I got Huohuo and she's just perfect. I'm pulling for Ruan Mei and no one can stop me lol.
I’m kinda confused about the skip of patches from 1.6 to 2.0, does that simply mean it’ll be a longer time before the game updates (and the new characters come) or is the time between patches still the same?

I will try 20 pulls in her banner. I already allocated my pulls for future banners. Dr. Ratio LC, Blackswan for Kafka, Jingyuan LC, Sparkle for DHIL, and Aventurine.
I prioritize my mains than what is meta and as I'm an f2p, my resources are limited
I’ve been skipping since FX banner so I think I will manage to get RM,BS and Sparkle. On the other hand I might just continue skipping until something completely busted comes (Raiden Mei perhaps?) out and I get it with many eidolons and signature LC.
I don't have Topaz and I don't use DOT teams, so I can't see me using Ruan Mei to her full potential. It's a skip for now, but maybe things will change on her rerun.
Ruan Mei is the most general support there is, as of current patch she is the best option in 99% of teams, you can skip her just don't fool yourself into thinking she is some niche support, she is the oposite.

Hybrid break, DoT, and multi-dps comps are gonna be insane!
Btw multi-dps is when you have 3 dps characters. Ex: Kafka, Topaz, Serval (I like the idea of doing multiple damage mechanics and it may be sub-optimal 😅)
I'm going for both mei and sparkle since I can basically soft skip Kafka and the light cones in part 2 with the way the math works out for my account. Mei's banner is by far the best banner this patch Xueyi can cover the dual dps hole a lot of people have and we get dr ratio for free so I can just build triple imaginary at some point
Ruan Mei looks absolutely amazing, probably a massive power spike for any account. But I don’t need power, I just wanna fun mono quantum team and sparkle is cute.

For me it's more a qusetion of how much I want to invest as someone who's been saving for a while. I already plan to skip 2.0 to save for Acheron because I've been waiting for her since day 1, not because of anything I think of Black Swan or Hanabi. As in life, skip, change, and quit for positive motivations, not negative.

I personally won't skip ruan mei cause I love her in every aspect.
But considering that 2.0 will be a big patch, I'm not afraid to say that I'll be getting sparkle too.. The stellar jade income will be sufficient I assume

I don’t think she will necessarily be better or worse than sparkle, they both have different uses. But for people like me who have multiple e6 support chars being tingyun/yukong aswell as Bronya or e1s1 Bronya don’t absolutely need her.. sure she may be better than them but you won’t be missing out if you don’t pull her. I hear the argument about her enabling dual-dps teams, that’s not something I’m too interested in. I usually use a healer/tank, dps, harmony & nihility character on my team. The only time I ever use two dps would be a blade or topaz team and you still don’t need Ruan Mei for either of those to function well if you have other characters whereas sparkle has much more value imo whether it be using her in a mono quantum team, with DHIL or just on any team in general and that is why I’ll be saving for her.
I want to highlight her usage in dot team.
So the issue with her being there is: which better, add her to the team or add another dot chara to the team? Since we need at least 3 DoTs to apply and we don't have a dot type in sustain role. BUT!
R Mei has that weakness break efficiency so we can break enemies fast to get the DoT from breaking. It almost like having 3 DoT charas already. Maybe that's why they decided to make her element ice. Otherwise she will be very OP
I’m skipping Mei since she doesn’t work for my play style. I’m main Clara so having the enemy’s bar broken all the time is not going to benefit me at all, my second team is mono imaginary with IL so Sparkle is more beneficial for my account (she’s a sp generator). Plus I’m saving for Sam 🥳
Same here though I'm gonna do a few multis to see if I could get her early. I personally don't feel the need to get stronger since I could auto even MoC 10 and don't think adding two more stages to it would be that challenging. I just want the teams I play to be even more fun. I already have Fu Xuan and SW so Sparkles look good to me just because of her element. I'm personally hoping for a limited physical harmony that could make Argenti nuke harder, that character would be my personal must pull.
Better you guys practice no regrets and accept an informed guaranteed decision nowadays. Don't beat yourself down that you didn't expect the next OP character. THIS IS A GACHA GAME, have fun with what you have and sacrifice. This game will force your FOMO and losses so get used to losing and grow up or dont play a game like this at all if your psychologically weak to begin with.
sparkle's value is entirely in that she's quantum harmony and enables a complete mono-quantum team with silver wolf, seele/qingque/future quantum attackers and fu xuan. so what she exactly does isn't even that important as long as she increases damage to *some* degree (as a limited banner 5* harmony, I'd be surprised if she doesn't do a good job as a support). if she wasn't quantum this would be a complete non-debate.
I want ruan mei buz in general supports are more valuable in this game but with the rise of dual-dps meta I also want blade which leaves me very conflicted on who to roll for🙃
Sparkle tends to be something different entirely. She isn’t going to be the same niche as Ruan Mei. Being more an SP generator than being made solely for the Quantum team.

If you play Dan Heng IL, Seele, or QQ then pull for Sparkle. If you play dual dps teams then pull for Ruan Mei.
If you play Kafka DoT then pull for Black Swan.
There is no ‘better unit’ they are all amazing and fit different niches. Sparkle looks to be the better one for hypercarry (for now) as she gives a lot of crit dmg and skill points. Ruan Mei is not inferior however and her dual dps teams will be as good as sparkle teams.
Sparkle’s kit will change during the beta, but every major change this far has always happened during the week 2 of the beta, which means that Sparkle’s final kit (minus small number tweaks) will most likely be finalized during Ruan Mei’s banner.
Ruan Mei will definitely be a really good character, but I really don't like her design at all, there's already a lot of characters with similar clothes in HSR, but hers are basically a color swap of tingyun's clothes and she doesn't even have other characteristics like a horn, a tail, a weird hair color or anything that would make her stand out a little, she just looks like a regular woman wearing regular clothes almost identical to other characters.

Ruan Mei can potentially even create "No Solo Sustains needed" teams Meta.....
So for sure, she would be the most flexible character in any team in the future....Even for HP% and Def% scaling DPS, benefits from her.....

My reason for skipping her not because she is bad or sparkle. Im skipping her because right now i dont have a problem clearing all content in game right now. If i start having problem clearing content i will pull for her if not then skip. Its different for every account.

For me i pull because i didn't get a new char for quite a while now ( last unit i pull for was fu xuan) so i want something new . And her kit can make unit i didn't use much before shine . Gameplay over meta !

There is a lot of conflicts on whether to pull for her light cone or not. Toshi says that it's not worth it but other streamers are saying that her light cone is a must pull.
Her light cone is very good honestly and I would say worth the investment but there’s a good alternative which is S5 memories of the past when it comes to the break effect and energy

My Thoughts:
Right now I have 160 pulls, but I have to decide Between Ruan Mei, Black Swan and Hanabi.
I think Black Swan will be "must pull" if I have Kafka, so 160 wishes will be for her. Also because I need a wind Dps or Pseudo-Dps.
I can get other 160 in 1.6 and 2.0 for sure, so probably I will be pulling with 50/50 Ruan Mei and 50/50 Hanabi 😢
It's a really tough decision 😭. I only have right now 2 Dps, Selee E0 and Kafka E1.
if your 2 dps characters are seele and kafka, then you should definitely save for sparkle imo. sparkle is practically made for seele/mono quantum teams

I think it's the same old, "it's a must pull broken character" argument like Dan IL. Or any other new character in general. She is good but not a must pull. To my fellow players, pull her if you like her, not because she is said to be broken. It's not a difficult game or competitive for that matter. Blade and Kafka are having their reruns. And they are very liked characters. No doubt you like one or the other, maybe both. Do not let hype over a strong new character make you pull for a unit you have little interest for. I have Jing Liu and Dan Heng IL fully built, yet I mostly use Qingque and Blade. Using a character you like is far better than a character that is strong. I'll be saving my pulls for Kafka because I want her, not need her. You don't need any character in this game.

Here is my thought process on Skipping Ruan Mei so main issue with dual dps is Not enough SP. One will definitely unable to stack as much dps if ruan mei is using up points. Thats where sparkle comes in she gives SP even adds one temp SP to the Skill points pool for DOT comps to go all out with their skills usage. even tank or healer unit will be able to spam skills with her.
Sparkle is going to be really good for mono quantum (atleast 3) and skill point spamming with a single target buff. Imo ruan mei is the best universal harmony.
I previously gonna skip ruan mei for sparkle. But after hoyo removes her action advance from her kit, I have to reconsider getting ruan mei and hope I have enough to summon for sparkle when she drops.

Going based off dream speculation is very bad. Ruan Mei got changed over 7x from the time she has her kit leaked to final release. Pull for what is known. You could always wait and see what the 2.0 beta dreams have in store.

My biggest problem is I am obsessed with supports. I wouldn't even blink skipping on DPS. But support? I would struggle to resist.

@@Jojokun5235 thanks. I started a new F2P account as a fun challenge after the Dr. Ratio announcement and I managed to get Silver Wolf in 15 pulls and have saved everything else. So she's guaranteed. I'm hoping I might get E1, but honestly I'd rather have E6 Xueyi. That character is sick!

Ruan mei is insane for dual dps and i barely play hypercarry teams with one dps i like to have break efficiency more so i dont take damage rather than doing very few cycles.. she will be really good for casuals and tryhards alike

To be honest the only reason why I’m pulling ruan mei is for the res pen, res pen is really good and op if used right
She might add more res pen to characters that has res pen in their kit which would make it stronger
