I’m from Michigan and had this sauce my whole life and then moved to Miami and no one here knows what I’m talking about when I ask for this. Thank you so much for this video. I now can have something I really have loved for so long!!
2 cloves chopped garlic 1 can coconut flavored soda 2 1/2 tbls white vinegar 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup fish sauce 1/2 teaspoon ground chili You're welcome.
In a pan dry /no oil . Rost . cooped peanuts. . And garlic . After finishing toasted. Add the mix in a bowl.then add .fish sauce and vinegar add some chilies chopped .
Actually you can do regular drinking water too. The flavor of coconut soda does add a bit more flavor but at my house we definitely don't use coconut soda for making fish sauce but for adding it to our dishes when cooking. My mom make a basic recipe: 1 part fish sauce, 1 part vinegar, 1 part sugar, 2 part water, and just 2-3 cloves of garlic, and 2-4 red hot chili pepper and you are good. Some fish sauce is saltier than other so u can add a bit more vinegar, water, or sugar depend on taste.
Yes! Today I finally made this sauce for Bun Cha and its save so much time from adjusting to sweet and savor but with the secret ingredient fix all of it. It's save so much $$ from palm sugar, limes squeezing lol, etc..
I went to a Vietnamese restaurant couples of week ago. I order a steamed rice with fried eggs and pork, it comes with the sauce. It taste so good with the rice. Is not salty at all is very sweet. So I went on Internet and search how to make the sauce and came upon this video. :D
Just tried the recipe, and the coconut juice + tonic water worked well. I also modified the recipe by adding chili flakes rather than putting in the paste bc I don't like it to be too spicy. Really yummy! Thanks for the recipe!!
The first time I had Nuoc Mam was when friends of mine introduced it to me when I was stationed at Naval Hospital San Diego!! OYFG! I loved it. I would get it at a restaurant in Hong Kong called the perfume river. And, once when the chef at a restaurant in Lincoln City was talking with us, I told her the meal would have been better with it, and she immediately went and made me it for me!! I will try this with the coconut soda!!
Thnx, I do alot of fishing and hunting with all kinds of Asian ethnicity (I'm American -Mexican), I love all the sauces they bring to eat outdoors. I've been trying to learn to make them all. thanks for sharing, mom is cute!
It’s awesome fish sauce there’s are so many recipes out there but I loveeee this one I make this recipe the last ten years will continue to make it forever….Thanks for sharing…
After seeing your videos with your mom and dad, it is clear why you are such a happy and positive young woman :). Your parents must be so proud of you!
omg, imma have to try to make this. thank goodness you have accurate measurement which i need so bad. i cannot make nuoc mam even though im vietnamese. the other week the lady made ga nuoc mam. i asked her what she put in her nuoc mam. she used the same ingredients as your with vinegar and coco water. im gonna have to try making this at home gotta put this in one of my favorites video right now.
I made this Fish Sauce recipe during The Quarantine of 2020. The flavor is amazing. It help my food taste delicious during this 60 days of Social Distance. Thanks.
Made this dipping sauce yesterday for some egg rolls, and it tastes amazing! Thanks for the video! My family always added fresh lime juice to it as well, just a thought if others to try out as well!
I just made this today for our early Christmas dinner and it was amazing! The secret ingredient really made a difference. Thanks so much! Love love love this recipe. Super simple but super delicious!
Thank you for sharing! I absolutely love this recipe. I actually did add an extra soup spoon of fish sauce though. But you gave me a great foundation for the best fish sauce ever. Everyone loves it. Thank you to you and your mama!! ❤❤❤👍👍👍
I just made this yesterday and a it's the best Fish Sauce recipe I've tried. I've been looking for this recipe for a long time, it just brings back memories! Thanks for sharing!
For some reason, I was reassured when I heard your mom give her approval at 1:34. Lol, funny how some things apply to everyone no matter where your from.
omg more videos on viet food. Please.. I have two children and they are half viet and just love the food I take them out to rest. once a week or two because their grandma lives 2 hours away so it`s hard for them to teach me but the kids loved this fish sauce way more then mine!!!!!!!!!!!1 Thank you so much!!
Thank you!!! I substituted the sugar with Agave Syrup from Costco and used filtered water in place of the canned item you used and it turned out amazing just like the Vietnamese restaurants I've been too, and perhaps better than some.
Made this last night with your mom's recipe!! It was good!!! I found that I had to add more chili paste and some lime juice though, for my taste but overall it was great! Tell your mom thank you!!
I need to try your recipe some day. Never would have thought of using coconut soda.🤔. I tried using vinegar in the past (taught by my Mom) but I still prefer the fresh lime taste. My Husband’s family always request my fish sauce when we have family gatherings. I add them to my daily salad with a hint of ranch dressing. 🥗
You guys are so adorbs! I love it. Keep up the awesome work and I totally thumbs up the Vietnamese salad... specifically Vietnamese noodle salad with beef/pork.
omg, i can taste it. im totally gonna try this. also, what i wish you ladies would share is, very original and simple recipes that make asian people stay so so slim (maybe thats more like advice lol). you're both beautiful ladies. cheers.
yay, i think you read my mind because i've actually been wondering how to make this. i recently went to this vietnamese restaurant and they served it to put on top of noodles, i think it was the same sauce because it was a sweet fish sauce, it was so good! thanks so much christine and momteeener :)
It depends on where you live, but an asian grocery store will more likely have it. Coco Rico is actually a Puerto Rican brand, so Caribbean stores may have it too. I think the soda is used because it was the closest thing to coconut water that was commonly available back when Vietnamese were starting to come to the United States.
This is awesome. Thank you for sharing. I have to get that coconut soda( did not even know there is such a thing). I am only aware of coconut juice. Yaaay. My weekend is complete.
Thank you for this excellent recipe. Today I made one with fish sauce and another with soy sauce (my kids don't like fish sauce :^( ) Turned out fantastic. Because we can't use them all in one meal, I made the sauce and let it sit in garlic for an hour. After that, I use a fine filter to take out the garlic. Without garlic, sauce should store well in fridge for 2 weeks.
My mom makes the same ingredients as you described your mom does, but it is okay to substitute with vinegar and Coco juice if someone does not like have lime available at home and use warm water instead too. Some people can't stand with garlic, it is fine too.
You & Mom rock! Thank you. I substituted the coconut soda for Kevita Sparkling Probiotic Coconut Drink and was able to obtain the same chemical reaction. All my ingredients were organic and I used german rock cane sugar. It came out great. Blessings on your journey :)
😆 😆 😆 Very sympathetic! Thanks for making me smile today. 😄Great recipe. Will do it right now for breakfast with my Gỏi Cuốns. The best dish in the world. But I like the simple way how your mother did just with a lettuce leaf 🍃. In next life I want to be born in Vietnam and marry 👰🏻 there to a girl that lives cooking too like me 😃. Greetings from San Sebastian 🏖️, Basque Country 🇧🇮, Spain 🇪🇸 🇫🇷. Greg 😘
Christine, please give my compliments to your mom. I've tried different recipes throughout the years (including my own mom's recipe) and they always seemed just a little off. It got to a point where it became cumbersome just to prepare it. Your recipe is spot on, simple, and quick. Coconut soda!? Brilliant! P.S. I added fresh lime juice to the recipe for that citrus tart. P.S.S. Props for the cheering insert @0:47 sec. I did a double take because I thought PBS Kids was on the background ;)
Where I live, fish soup (I know you meant sauce, wich is not the same) is very popular, but it has nothing to do with this receip, we use actual fish and vegetables and is very tasty. I dislike that you use that many pre-cooked ingredientes there in the USA, but still interesting the receip! thanks for sharing!
I’m from Michigan and had this sauce my whole life and then moved to Miami and no one here knows what I’m talking about when I ask for this. Thank you so much for this video. I now can have something I really have loved for so long!!
So you should make and sell it then
2 cloves chopped garlic
1 can coconut flavored soda
2 1/2 tbls white vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup fish sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground chili
You're welcome.
Thank you 😊
In a pan dry /no oil . Rost . cooped peanuts. . And garlic . After finishing toasted. Add the mix in a bowl.then add .fish sauce and vinegar add some chilies chopped .
Can i switch white sugar to Palm sugar?
hi, is any 'degree' for the original fish sauce? i heard they have different type of fish sauce like 60' degree fish sauce? thanks!
I need fish sauce to make fish sauce?
Actually you can do regular drinking water too. Your mom is so sweet. She said sorry before eating. So sweet and humble.
Yes! Today I finally made this sauce for Bun Cha and its save so much time from adjusting to sweet and savor but with the secret ingredient fix all of it. It's save so much $$ from palm sugar, limes squeezing lol, etc..
I just made this and it is PERFECT!! Tastes just like I get at my favorite Vietnamese Restaurant. Thanks so much!

I went to a Vietnamese restaurant couples of week ago. I order a steamed rice with fried eggs and pork, it comes with the sauce. It taste so good with the rice. Is not salty at all is very sweet. So I went on Internet and search how to make the sauce and came upon this video. :D

Been using this recipe for 10 years now 😂 passing it down! Thank you!
Just tried the recipe, and the coconut juice + tonic water worked well. I also modified the recipe by adding chili flakes rather than putting in the paste bc I don't like it to be too spicy. Really yummy! Thanks for the recipe!!

i tried this but used Sprite instead for the secret ingredient. Thank you so much. My family loved it.
It’s awesome fish sauce there’s are so many recipes out there but I loveeee this one I make this recipe the last ten years will continue to make it forever….Thanks for sharing…
I always put a good amount of Sriracha in mine. Wrap egg rolls in lettuce and dip. So good.
After seeing your videos with your mom and dad, it is clear why you are such a happy and positive young woman :). Your parents must be so proud of you!
Omg, I'm from Michigan and I been looking for this sauce. So simple, yet so amazing. Thank you, thank you Thank you!!!!!

I made this Fish Sauce recipe during The Quarantine of 2020. The flavor is amazing. It help my food taste delicious during this 60 days of Social Distance. Thanks.
I'm salivating! I went to get some pho this weekend, and my favorite place was closed for a private party. So I am totally drooling right now.
Made this dipping sauce yesterday for some egg rolls, and it tastes amazing! Thanks for the video! My family always added fresh lime juice to it as well, just a thought if others to try out as well!
I also add pickled daicon and pickled carrot pieces.

LOL I love how your mom says "Sorry!" before she takes a big bite.
For some reason, I was reassured when I heard your mom give her approval at 1:34. Lol, funny how some things apply to everyone no matter where your from.
coconut juice would also work but if you can't get that then you can also substitute with water. you would just need to add more sugar :)
Using the coconut soda is the key . You literally don't even have to add anything extra to taste. Because it comes out perfect .
omg more videos on viet food. Please.. I have two children and they are half viet and just love the food I take them out to rest. once a week or two because their grandma lives 2 hours away so it`s hard for them to teach me but the kids loved this fish sauce way more then mine!!!!!!!!!!!1 Thank you so much!!

We loved that Vietnamese fish sauce
Thank you!!! I substituted the sugar with Agave Syrup from Costco and used filtered water in place of the canned item you used and it turned out amazing just like the Vietnamese restaurants I've been too, and perhaps better than some.
