Great idea I'm gonna try this asap. I was looking for a change.. I was getting a bit fed up of the usual potato mash, or the Pasta, or Rice. But this Dish is Polenta adds a perfect ratio of carbs and protein like beans. Or mushrooms ..Well done Healthy meals.
I like how this video gets to the point whilst still being nicely produced. I'm fed up with recipe videos where it takes 5 minutes to watch someone crack an egg, just so the video gets extra 'watch time' and performs better on the UA-cam algorithm.
You can cook polenta in the oven, I take 1 cup of polenta and 3 cups of boiling water, I add 1 pinch of sea salt and a spoon of marple syrup, then I cover my baking mould with foil and place it in the oven at 180-200° for 30-40 min depends on how high polenta is (I think it would take about 20 min to cook as low layer as yours, I'll try soon, I usually cook it higher, about 3cm high). Then I let it cool down (I just keep it overnight), and make fries with ghee butter next day. They are delicous with banana and almond/peanut butter. Also with cheese. I'll try another toppings, I adore polenta, and so does my 2.5yrs old son :)
Lovely. Thanks for this tip. I'm looking for oil free / gluten free recipes and this one is great. I love the 3 toppings he has used....I will leave out the oil and the butter of course, so your baked polenta will be great!!!
Hey Sasha! The sweet polenta with almond extract was a *HIT!* Lol! It turned out Gooey, crispy, and sweet. I didn't measure my ingredients.... I hardly ever do, and it turned out perfect! Lol! I'm thinking next I might use sugar and lemon extract and a pinch of kosher salt..... With a hint of vanilla extract, only if it smells good as a combination. This is *exciting!* Lol!
Hi there Janet, you rock, so much great ideas when it comes to simple food such is polenta. Crispy and sweet, that has to be a winner! Lemon extract and a pinch of salt, I like where it goes, and it's going to be continued, great! PS. Still haven't a chance to try it out with spicy grits, but it's on my to-do list.
Hi Em, thank you so much! I usually cook polenta as side dish for meat stews or something like that, but this is some new level. Crunchy and savory exterior is what makes these cakes special. Have a great weekend friend!
Thanks a lot Howard, I'm all about simple cooking with easy to find ingredients, trying to make the most out of it. I'm just in love with these fritter type of recipes.
Hi Janet, that would be awesome! Feel free to go with any topping to your liking. Also, if you think you'll have leftovers, leave some cooked polenta and fry it up tomorrow.
@@HowToCookSmarter Thanks Sasha! I made the soft polenta last night as a comfort food, and it was a hit! I forgot to put the leftovers in a container; however, to make it even and pretty. I'm still going to use the uneven pieces to practice frying today. Thanks again 😊👍
@@HowToCookSmarter I was wondering, can I make a sweet polenta mix with almond extract, and then fry it? Afterwards sprinkle with confectioners sugar? Or would the almond extract and sugar burn when being fried? Just curious.
@@thetravelinsagittarian1316 Hi Janet! I agree, how you shape polenta is not what really matters here, so good call for frying up the leftover pieces. Tell me about your soft polenta, I guess you do it with lots of butter, do you have it on side with something or it's a dinner on its own?
@@thetravelinsagittarian1316 Love the way how you think about polenta here! I would say why not, never made sweet polenta, but it could be working good, it reminds me on having a French toast. And I think you shouldn't be worried about this sugar getting burned, it's been already melted in the polenta.
*Update* I fried the leftovers just now..... I can't keep them on the plate to cool before everyone is munching and crunching on these ugly practice polentas! Lol! They're so good! Lol! Imagine if I actually made them pretty and found a great topping for them? Lol! Thank you!
Ugly practice polenta, haha, I just love it, thanks for all of your feedback Janet! I really can't imagine a better way to use leftover polenta. And the thing I love the most about this polenta is exactly that salty and crunchy outer layer they get when fried. Anything on top of that is a bonus :)
@@HowToCookSmarter Lol! Thanks for the encouraging responses Sasha! I'm going to have to make another batch and try different ways to make this dish. Thanks again Sasha! ☺👍

Aaaah searching for ways to use the huge bag of polenta I bought for the first time in my live and glad to see your video popped up😁. Awesome stuff!

@@EmsKitchen Thanks, you're so kind!
Very nice recipe. I want some Polenta cakes, actually I want all three. Good Job !
Thanks Kelvin, sure no problem I'm sending you all three. To be honest my favorite was white beans in butter wine sauce.
added your mushroom ragout to some store bought polenta I fried.... DELICIOUS!!!

Would love to know what other seasonings could be used other than salt. Also alternatives to butter...heart health
Which topping is your favorite?

Where is the recipe for polenta so I can fry it
Thanks for sharing, but please stop using this super ennerving music.
Where I live Polenta is definitively NOT cheap! It's 7 times the price of white flour.
Wow, how? It's just ground corn meal. where do you live buddy?
Wow look so yummy recipe
