As someone who likes mixing in bitwig, not just producing, I will continually appreciate the fact that bitwigs stock plugins trade blows with even the best paid for plugins. While I'll agree with many other comments about some of the other changes that would be great to see, im still very excited to have these tools.
really appreciate seeing some guitar and rock-oriented stuff in these new Bitwig tutorials. I like seeing the versatility, as much as I like the electronic stuff Bitwig is known for.
I agree wholeheartly! Using Bitwig for my dayily work in a classical recording studio while working on DnB bangers in my free time and i often feel like i am the only person using BITWIG on the whole spectrum of musical tasks.
For sure. Many electronic musicians end up picking up a guitar for more organic sounds and then falling in love with the guitar more than they thought they would -- I know I did.
Very cool compressor but there’s many on the market guys. I think there’s features that are more vital than new plugins; 1. Groove pool 2. Video player 3. Improved midi editing and step input. 4. Better piano roll. 5. Grid abstractions 6. More customisation for remote page in terms of GUI. 7. Random button being mappable to modulators. 8. Track list and better visibility options 9. Mix scenes/lock states. 10. Customisability of modulators for instance, macros to be step based rather than smooth etc. 11. Better color visibility on devices in the remote page and on the track in arrangement. 12. Dedicated tracks for cue markers, arrangement sections, tempo, lyrics etc. 13. ARA support for Melodyne 14. Midi transformation tools 15. More shortcuts/complex shortcuts so we can customise chains of shortcuts. And many more I can’t think of currently. The precision editing is a cool QOL improvement, imo you’ll should pause on the new devices we didn’t know we needed and just bring us some stuff we all know we need and want, or bring it alongside the stuff we’ve all been waiting for. I expected a bit more from this mid year release.
Your comment shows the biggest problem with Bitwig _exactly_. Only thing they really care is churning more synths, Or, maybe, their marketing thinks that this is only thing that sells. People asking for smaller convenience improvements for years but this is just not on their radar. For example that step editing is something that made me consider upgrading.
OMG, I'm so glad the recent sale got me to join in on the Bitwig train. I'm "a Reaper kinda guy" and I'm fluent in several other DAWs... But there's something unique and special about Bitwig that makes it so enjoyable to work in. It's a combination of tools (like this new one!) and careful attention to the user experience. It's like they didn't JUST think about features, they thought about "How can we make this a product people will love?" ... I'm so excited about the 5.2 update. These seem like big additions for a "dot" update!
literally in the same boat here, been loving reaper for years but still felt there was features and qol that i was lacking (particularly when writing music). when i heard about the sale i gave the free trial a shot and just decided tonight to buy it. super excited to have 2 really sick daws in my arsenal now
@@headspacetheace Right on! The two are different enough from each other that it can make sense to own and use both, whatever you feel at the moment. Flattened audio is easily transported into other daws! =)
With you there. Narrowed it down to reaper and bitwig but I just way prefer bitwig. It’s so inspiring. Any idea how long the sale is on for? Need to re up my plan.
@@CarlyonProduction I find Reaper feels "heavy" after spending time in Bitwig. But Reaper does have Midi comping which I desperately need in Bitwig. Bitwig has great audio comping -- I don't understand why they haven't done Midi comping yet with the same/similar system!
Excellent update! Looks like there was a lot of work behind the scenes for this one. The new compressor and EQs are very much appreciated as is the VST undo and new keyboard features. I'm really liking the new renderer as well. It looks clean and feels snappy! Great job Team Bitwig!! Let's Goooo! 🎉🎉
I haven't been this excited about an update in some time. Great stuff!!! Keep those QOL and editing features coming! Hardware acceleration.. Huge win!! I definitely don't think we need more devices for the foreseeable future hahaha. :)
@@wjoojoo From Bitwish: Recording multiple takes on a midi keyboard or another controller manually articulated is tedious, especially if you are not a genius. It is much better to record multiple takes one after the other without having to start and stop the recording every time. And then just select the midi sections you are most happy about. This is analogous to comping audio tracks. Ableton has MIDI coming.
As someone who has been using practically all major DAWs at one point or another (still haven't tried Bitwig though), this definitely looks like the best stock compressor out there. I'm getting more and more tempted to buy Bitwig with every update. I would probably keep using Reaper for most mixing and recording though.
This is cool, but there are a million compressor plugins out there, and I wish Bitwig would focus on doing things that can't be done by just adding a plugin -- such as MIDI comping, or dozens of other things that Bitwig users have asked for for years and years.
I’ve been waiting on compressor+ for sometime!!! This and the colorful EQ’s round the native devices out.. So you can sound great out of the box no extra plugins… they shouldn’t have to make many more effect device’s for 3 major release tho…😅😅😅 Bigwigs native devices are my favorite part of bitwig…
Friends, how advanced is bitwig studio in PIANO ROLL than studio one? For example, ghost notes and scales, like in FL and Studio One, can you do that here too?
@@privatedomicile6627 Coming from FL I like bitwig note selection system a lot more than FL , I would just change the double click behaviour to single click and use ctrl to select, what about you ?
@@maxandersmusic You mean how you need to double-click to add a note in the piano roll? If you select the note draw tool, which is marked 3, you can just single click, and a note will appear. If you're in the piano roll, and press 3 on your keyboard, it will change it from the default note selector to to the draw note function. I don't know how they could make this faster, or do you mean they should have the draw note function as the default tool for the mouse cursor?
@@jonirischx8925 Yes, a simple click to place the note and right click to delete it, like the drawing tool, but I don't really like bitwig's because moving the mouse changes the length of the note, it should move the position of the note like in FL. it's a bit frustrating if you misclick, also the selection tool (that is pretty essential for me ) doesn't work with the draw tool, it should be remapped to the ctrl key.
I still believe that you will make an adequate export of the tracks.( Stems export with sound processing of groups, channels and master buses) Every time I export tracks and in the final stems summing I get a broken balance of my track, because BITWIG does not pass stems exports through the FX-channel processing chain, it's horrible!!! Please consider the opinions of professionals too! Thank you!
I agree, it comes automatically in Reaper. But this daw to soulless. I'm also tired of waiting for normal export tracks, it's not convenient to render one stem each time and wait for it to pass through the master channel. Because that's the only way to keep the sound that was there originally
