Run no bov you'll get a better flutter. Flutter comes from the turbo not the bov. The bov makes the pssh or cherp sound. Reason why the flutter is gone with the better bov is because it's working better at releasing the pressurized air when you come off throttle and the air has no where to go but out the bov. Cheap bov didn't let the pressurized air out as good so it when back through the turbo making the flutter.

You're not really hearing compressor wheel reversing or fluttering with low boost, that's your wastegate fluttering from the low throttle surges within the vacuum lines. You would really only hear compressor surge when letting off the throttle as intercooler pipes have a bunch of pressurized air inside and nowhere for it to go. As far as liking or disliking the wastegate flutter, that's subjective. I never gave a damn so long as everything was working.
I have used a real and replica one on my Megane RS. I dont think you get those in USA. But they are both very quiet, unless I am on full throttle under load. If I rev in neutral regardless of throttle it will not release... Any ideas? Honestly will probably just throw on an older turbo smart one. But its baffled me...

If nothing at all, then the bov is not opening. Suggest checking vacuum line and dont use thin soft rubber line because they may calapse under vacuum pressure and heat.
My hks recently stopped making the high pitch blow off sound, my car still holds the same amount of boost pressure it just makes the turbo surge. Do you think its maybe a spring issue?

The replica will not last longer. I have using it on Mitsubishi Lancer GSR 4G93T with stock boost (0.7bar), after 1 month it started to sound like turbo flatter, then I bought a cheap used real first version of HKS SQV and changed it, no more turbo flatter sound... I still using it for over 8 years now, still working great, not sure what will happen if I increase boost pressure, I will try it soon. But my both HKS SQV have adjustable spring pressure, it is the first version, chrome body.
The replica works ok until pushing the boost up. We highly recommend the real version to eliminate any possible leak. You may have the earlier HKS version which is still a great product.

Those both sound way different compared to what my HKS sounds like. I have 0 turbo surge at 2 lbs of boost or 19 lbs of boost. The HKS sounds much better though for sure. It sounds like that knockoff is to restrictive to dump the boost fast enough.

Just get you a very good snap ring tool and you should have no problem. The replica snap ring may be a bit of a pain to install but it is manageable. Also the replica rubber o-ring may make it a bit more difficult because the size may be too big or too small depending on the supplier.

@@risin9365 no they were the same as the fake one you have. It was black and the t piece was cheap plastic. I can tell you now they are using a silver snap ring now and trying to pass it as an authentic one but the part doesnt seem to have the bevel cut on it. Counterfeit has gone a long way to be honest. When I did the vacuum test on mine it held vacuum but it leaked very very slow so I know the fake BOV had good response. This is my second knock off I tested. The first one I had you knew it was a knock off. Had hks written on it too but it ripped the diaphragm and I repaired it and also trimmed the housing because it was poor casting that wasnt cleaned off. I'm sure it was a rushed process being made but overall it did work properly. The down set was that the black snap ring was prone to rust. I also forgot the dual action that the authentic one does the copies do not do. The center part is molded together with the outer part as just one piece design as the original hks has a two part relief action. The one thing I wanted to know is the authentic one really hold vacuum and not leak anything. If the original did have a very slow leak as the fake one I could really say the copy is just more cost effective and the real thought would be how long that copy will last before something breaks on it. Obviously the quality of the original is outstanding and it will last way longer.
@@PeNDmN Yes, the authentic one does have two stages of release. Replica ones are stepping their game up, the Bov itself looks very identical now externally. We have not taken apart a real vs fake bov internally but that is a great idea to show comparisons internally. We must do a video in the future.

just a good fact. the one fin on the top doesn't make it a fake. that is a fake one but that fin doesn't identify it as fake. HKS made several different models through out the years, my wife has an OG HKS on her wrx with no fin and its authentic. Every time HKS releases a new BOV after the first original one they added a fin. The original real HKS was a smooth surface with no fins. The SSq2 has 1 fin, the ssqv3 has 3 fins, the ssqv4 has 4 fins, DO not use the fins as a identifier for being a real or fake HKS. Another way to tell with the better looking fakes that actually say HKS on em. the fakes dont have the trademark logo in the corners of the HKS badges on the valve itself.

All the psi. The HKS SSQV is designed to seal better the higher the boost goes. It's a Pull-Type BOV, so to release the pressure, it is pulled open AGAINST the pressure, not WITH the pressure like, for example a Bailyes DV26.

If you don’t like surge, check the vacuum connection on back of bov, it is not producing enough vacuum to pull the gate and vent the air out.
