What are the most important attributes of a leader?
The Chinese and Taoist precept, qian, encourages us to lead with humility, maintaining a modest, balanced and realistic self-view, by rising above our ego and embracing simplicity.
At One Young World, we are committed to leadership free from arrogance, excessive self-importance or greed, which is why qian is one of the seven principles on our Global Leadership Charter.
Qian Xu is the life motto of our Ambassador Yuhan Zheng and she remains true to the principle throughout her work as a geography PhD student focusing on the global governance of climate change and energy transition.
“To me, integrating qian into my leadership style means simplifying the complex scientific problems in research to make them accessible and engaging to people from diverse backgrounds,” she explains.
