    This is such a beautiful song, but so heartbreaking. You can see the pain in his face even now that things are better for him. Adam Rupp said he couldn't stop crying while he was trying to record the percussion track. I know that they have been doing this live on their Christmas tour. I can't imagine how they are getting through it. I'm so happy to hear that you didn't have to deal with this kind of rejection.

    As someone whose relationship with my mom was bad even before I came out as bi in high school, I broke down completely when you brought up found family. Because yeah, no matter how much that relationship is broken, you wish with all your heart it wasn't. Even though I'm lucky and have an awesome family that I made with the people who matter to me, the holidays are still the time when it's hardest feeling that empty spot that used to be so crucial to your being. I've cried every time I've listened to this song, but the empathy and understanding you brought in your analysis of it despite having a supportive family yourself just broke me down all over again, because you helped me see an even deeper interpretation. 💜 Thanks for all that you do, and Merry Christmas to you and yours!!

    A beautiful song Bastien wrote about a personal experience in his life, and in the lives of others. Let's not forget that Home Free has never shied away from divisive topics like this, even though I'm sure they lost fans because of it. This shows that they are not afraid to speak their mind and advocate for a better world by singing and talking about inclusiveness. I still remember how much Tim LOVED the fact that they were a target by the Westboro Baptist Church.

    One of my cousins came out 40+ years ago and was disowned by family. Anyone who supported them was shunned as well. This caused others in the family not to come out publicly but the extended family disintegrated anyways. In many ways that was a different time, yet we still need this song, some things don’t change as they should. Thank you so much for the tender caring heartfelt reaction.

    This song is musically and lyrically beautiful. Bastein has painted a vivid picture with his lyrics, and I find this melody playing in my head regularly. I am thoroughly enjoying Bastein with our guys. His voice is smooth and clear, and he blends so well with the others. I especially love his voice with Rob’s. I have never understood the mindset of people who will deny someone like that. Especially family. If you loved that person 20 minutes ago before they came out to you, how can you not still love them?
    When I heard that they were doing this in at least some of their live shows I was amazed. It HAS to be a hard one for them to do, it is so emotional. But I also heard that the audience response that first time was everything it should have been.

    "Every year, it feels so wrong Aching for the only place I know I should belong"
    "Being who I'm meant to be Made me a stranger in the house that made me me"
    Adam Bastien experienced one of the worst possible reactions to his acknowledgement of his own truth. My heart aches every time I listen to this song. That he found his husband and they have created their found family, and that his parents have slowly accepted his truth, are each small miracles.
    You can see the emotion in Adam Rupp & Adam Chance's faces. They all feel deeply the pain of their friend & brother's estrangement from his family. That they can do this song on the very first release ABB sings on speaks to the depth of their commitment to his role in the group.

There are certain HF videos which inspire extreme diversity in reactor's comments and this is certainly one of them. Everyone has a tale to tell (family or acquaintances) in some cases having nothing to do with coming out. One tried to share, through tears, of a father who had been estranged, years earlier, due to severe domestic abuse. 😢

This did not sit well with me, so I rang his father and gave him what for … he had lost 2 sons to fatal car accidents and I asked why are you so willing to throw away another child? And pointed out that his son was exactly the same person as he was the day before he knew that he was gay. About your comment that the wronged person shouldn't be the one asking, while it's true that the invitation should come from the wrongful side, sometimes to achieve reconciliation, the person in the right has to forgive and take the first step.

    • @dj_410
      @dj_410  Місяць тому +3

      It is definitely a complex topic and would definitely depend on the situation. I just think that in situations where one person has done nothing wrong other than choosing to be true to themselves, they should not feel the need to forgive without any gesture, apology or effort on the part of the person who has caused them so much harm. Again, it definitely depends on the people involved and the situation and I'm not saying it's wrong to reach out and start the conversation, just that in this context they have done nothing wrong and shouldn't be the one who feels they need to bend if that makes sense...
