Join me for one of the most spectacular Japanese summer festivals in Tokyo - Sakurashinmachi Nebuta Festival 2024 - 桜新町 ねぶた祭 2024.
Sakurashinmachi neighbourhood is very close to central Tokyo, and is known as the town of Sazae-san tv show. Sakurashinmachi Nebuta Festival is known for its unique "Sazae-san Nebuta" floats. The festival is held every year in September, and it attracts tens of thousands of people, who come to see the nebuta floats coming from Aomori, the home of Nebuta Matsuri.
The Nebuta festival is the most famous summer matsuri in Japan, and it comes from Aomori Prefecture. The main attraction is large colourful human-shaped floats called Nebuta, that are resembling ancient warlords, historical characters and early kabuki characters. These floats parade through the streets, accompanied by Haneto dancers, huge drums and a very addictive flute music performed by Nebuta bayashi bands.
