Is The National Railway Museum Worth a Visit in 2024?

- Slightly different video today as my original plans to capture Flying Scotsman didn't go well. Rather than waste my trip to York, I re-visited the National Railway Museum to have another look around to see how far they have come with the works they are carrying out. I will admit I am still not a fan of some of the new areas, especially the WONDERLAB where the workshop used to be. There were also a few empty spaces in Great Hall and the Station Hall still closed.

I’m starting to think the museum is falling from grace. In many ways it’s become a shell of its former self, having less locomotives, a lack of interactive displays and and a much more empty environment. At least Flying Scotsman will be there permanently until the summer.
It is sad to see the way the museum is going. Hopefully when finished the renovations the rolling stock will be back. What will Flying Scotsman be doing in the Summer?
@@railway_photographer it will be back out on the main line earning a living rather than gathering dust..

Went to re-visit after i heard that the viewing gallery space was open.. only to go upstairs and just walk into such a barren room. They have stripped every single bit of interaction in that space... along with the viewing gallery itself literally being cut in half to sacrifice for the bramal gallery coolers... im loosing more and more hope
Great video. I been there with my sister a couple of weeks ago, I enjoyed it, especially looking around the museum with steam and diesel locos inside. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes Josh
You're welcome. I know I will visit again when finished all transformation just hope more rolling stock is back on display and the viewing area back open. All the best :-)
Amazing is flying Scotsman there
Sadly it wasn't at the museum during my visit. It was out on the sidings from public view. Not sure if it will be back on display in the museum soon or if will be kept hidden from public.
@@railway_photographer it went to the museum on Thursday
@@teamtrains maybe I should have waited longer and could have seen it being brought back to the museum. I know when I returned to the car park I saw the smoke from a distance but knowing the area didn't know if I could see it in sidings
What happened to Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Class 5 No. 1008? It’s one of my favourite exhibits.
I was wondering myself as another empty space. Makes me wonder where they are keeping all these when not on display.
i was on vacantion between 29 januarie and 5 februarie most big suprise was for me flying scotsman in the museum one big disapointing was thad large building pit oudside of the museum between train station and the museum very nice video
At the moment I think it is only Flying Scotsman that is keeping people visiting from what I have heard. It is a nightmare at the moment from the station to the museum. Never seems to be ending.
@@railway_photographer yea indeed we came by train from london because are hotel was there but lets see when tey finisht if its bether ore not coming back to u.K next month then we wana visit soem museum lines if tey alredy operational around this time greets from netherlands 😀
