    Hello Nina 😁
    My twinkle bloomed partially, then the same spikes super branched, and now seem to be on vacation till it decides to mature the 3 spikes and bloom again!! 🙄 Twinkle twinkle little orchid, how I wish you'd make up your mind to Bloom!!! 😅 The spikes have also gotten LONGER, more so than usual. 🤔 It appears to be fine, no loss of leaves or bulbs. There are starts of new growths showing. Have yourself an awesome day Nina, catch you tomorrow.... 👋🏻

      Robert, hi 😍💐 your Twinkle is on steroids!! There, that is my diagnosis! You're welcome! 😂 I have to bring the summer bloomers inside for tonight... I am feeling a bit of a chill in the air, and I don't like it! Meaning, they won't either. Other than that, it would appear to have been a good day, so... thank you for sending those vibes, Wingman ❤️ hope your day is going just dandy 🥰🥰 really appreciate your support, on the daily, Robert ❤️🌸

    I’ve lost all 4 twinkles, don’t think I’m going to try again and waste more $. I admire you for being so persistent and can see that you would like to save this one after losing the others. Mine went downhill so fast there was no chance for them. I’ll just admire photos of other peoples twinkles and leave it at that. Thanks for sharing this video Nina.

      Hi Renate 🥰💐 I won't be buying anymore Twinkles either, if this one does not make it through this winter. The real estate it occupies will be very welcome 😬 honestly, if I was not filming for the channel, this one would have been tossed the moment I saw the pseudobulbs desiccating and then collapsing. I know the signs, and it is, more often than not, time to say goodbye. Seeing as it was summer, I thought I would give it a go, and see what happens. Here we are, and some of the darn growths want to bloom? Crazy!! NOT happening 😅They do go downhill fast, once they have made their mind up. They are not THAT important to have in a collection, imo... Berry Odas and Hibikis rank much higher 😍👍🏼 really appreciate you watching, Renate! I hope that you are enjoying warmer temperatures and that Spring has really settled in for you now! ❤️ thank you so very much for watching. Wishing you a beautiful Friday 🤗🌸

    Hi Nina🤗🤗Just whatI needed, My white and yellow ones are twinkle twinkle little stars in heaven and Twinkle red fantasy is in the same state as yours except she is in bark. I am leaving her be to do her own thing. Fingers crossed, yours will recover and flourish. Love That King is showing such an interest in your Twinkle…so cute looking up paying attention 🥰😍Have a lovely and peaceful day rafiki.🌸💕

    • @NinjaOrchids

      Sue, rafiki!! 😍💐 leave them be... that is what I say... if they are going to go, they stand a better chance being left alone than stressing them out with moving, chopping and handling. Now, if I would not head into the cold temps, I would say that the larger piece with the big bulb, on mine, would make it. However... now we wait 😬 filming with King right there, up against my little stand, it was so distracting! Trying to keep the flow of my commentary without loosing concentration, while watching that he doesn't jiggle the stand, listening for the gate opening and closing etc etc. This video should have been an easy undertaking, but I was shattered afterwards, because I felt like a chameleon in my brain watching every angle while trying to talk. So, I am glad that he had a little cameo and that it was something you enjoyed! It was a tough one for me 💆🏼‍♀️💆🏼‍♀️🫣 thank YOU so much for watching. I had a good day and I hope that you did too 😘❤️🌸

    I have saved several many oncidiums over the years. I usually unpot them and spray them with hydrogen peroxide. I then place them in a narrow pot put about an inch of leca in the bottom and suspend the plant above it. I water it to the base of the pseudobulbs and soak it for about an hour. Then I empty it leaving only a little water in the leca for humidity The new roots that form and reach down for that water. I make sure that there are about 3 days of drying and then repeat the process of soak, drain and dry. If I decide not to take it out of the pot I would soak it with an antifungal, leave it to dry, and then water it to the base of the pseudobulbs, drain the water out leaving just a bit in the bottom and let it dry for at least 3 days. but I prefer to be able to see the root growth. I find that insects will attack a weakened plant before a healthy one so being vigilant looking for the little buggers is important. On a happier note my cycnoches Taiwan gold Orange is in full bloom and is gorgeous. Love and light Nina thank you for this video

      HI Elaine 🥰💐 thank you for writing out your method of rescuing oncidiums. I have not had any luck... if this one pulls through the coming months, it will be my go to, to leave the orchid in the pot and hope to get it right. I also flood this pot when I water. During the warmer months of this year, I could flush heavily, which now will be hard to do. We shall see how things go. The current state of revival is more than I expected this time last year 😅 I am so happy to hear that you cycnoches has bloomed out 🥳🥳👍🏼👍🏼 congratulations 😃 really appreciate you watching, Elaine! Thank you so much for the love and light, I receive that with gratitude in my heart 🙏🏼 right back at you 😘 hope you had a beautiful day 🤗

    *Exasperated sigh* I had to throw in the towel with Twinkles, finicky things that they are. The leaf tip browning, the rot, having to pick crumbs of moss out of a tangle of tiny roots- it was enough to make me break out in hives! 😆 As always, I admire your candor and determination!!!

      Sara, hi 😍💐 YES!!! I hear you and I feel the same way about them. Honestly, if I didn't have the channel to test things out, and explore / document, this one would have left the collection a long time ago. This is a result of 8 months, maybe more.. and there is not much to show for 🤦🏼‍♀️ now... I would like to have her around in May 2023, just so that I can say that, this is what needs to be done to get a declining Twinkle to bounce back... other than patience! 😅 thank you so very much for watching, Sara!! If this one does not make it through the winter, there will be no replacements. The real estate will be greatly appreciated by others that like a little more space around them. Hope your day was awesome ❤️🌸

    🦒💐❣️🙌 You are right, a pot full of things to learn !!! I don't want to see your twinkle again until spring, that is, if it means it is on its way to recovery 🤣 Last month I threw away a pot full of still living twinkle 🙄 Horror right? The think is, after 4 years in recovery I ended up with lots of individual little pseudobulbs that were flat and dissecated and were rootless. Each one of them had a tiny growth but they were not growing as the strutures had no substance to feed them. Enough of watching them struggle. My "good" ones 🙄 are mounted now, good structures but roots are refusing to grow. Let winter do it's thing, natural selection and all that good stuff 😜 Yours still has good life in it and so I keep all my fingers crossed for it 🤞🤞🍀🍀 Much love to you and best wishes for the day ❤️😍🤗🥰

      FFF😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good evening, meine liebe Freundin! I don't want to film her either, before May 2023 😅 I have to believe that these orchids prefer to be mounted, but, I would like to try and save mine and then pot it up in small small leca, to see if I am right about the large and small leca mix being a mistake. If it doesn't make it through the winter, I am sure that other orchids will appreciate the extra real estate 👍🏼 I am not surprised that you threw 'green' twinkles away. They take forever to bloom, but they also take forever to die 🫣 Let's hope 'we' don't see mine until waaayyy into next year. Really appreciate you keeping your fingers crossed, but, just in case it doesn't work, then... promise to not feel bad 😬😅😆 regarding the bosseri. My leaves are 30cm long, and 4cm wide. My Crestwood, has leaves as long as 42 cm, and as wide as 6cm, with darker leaves. I am sorry that I have not responded to your comment under your video, but thought to add it here, just so you know that I did not forget. Either way, just an fyi and... your's is still growing beautifully 😘 😘hope your day was fabulous, amiga mia! Tonight I brought the summer blooming phals inside, because we are suppose to get 17ºC, but then higher night temps after that. Just to be on the safe side. Hope you are having a wonderful evening, thank you so much for watching ❤️🌸

I am happy to hear that all your oncidiums are performing 💪🏼 nothing better than a pretty oncidium collection, growing, blooming and looking lush 👍🏼 in my climate, I really should not be growing any oncidiums at all, I will never have the humidity levels that they need. But.... when they bloom, for a short period of time, they look amazing 😅 hope your day was beautiful, Shirley ❤️🌸

    Love Xyliano telling you Shhh when you were talking about winter! Totally agree with him! I just took my twinkles out of a moss set up for the same reason…rot. They are now in small bark, perlite and tree fern pieces to retain moisture. Fingers crossed 🤞 that helps 😊

      🌸🥷🏼Trish San 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good afternoon, Orchideen Freundin! He was right on time, wasn't he!! And, I fully agree with him... no one wants to hear the W word here! Not my orchids, not the animals and definitely not me! 🫣 I will keep my fingers crossed that your's will bounce back. Considering you have that lovely cozy set up, if they don't, then... that is on them, not you!! You have the five star residence for your ladies, and if they cannot appreciate that (fill in the blanks 😅) if mine makes it, it will be because of a tremendous effort on my part, and I cannot do it alone, they have to come my way. And if not, then... I am sure that others will appreciate the extra space 😅 I have to approach any possible losses like that now. No ... woe is me and boohoo! Sure, it is disappointing, but I have to look at what it means for the others. I have a going going gone video to film, but am not ready yet, because orchids orchids everywhere, and fighting the angle of the sun is a little bit of a pain in the derriere when it comes to filming 💆🏼‍♀️ fingers crossed for your ladies, 🌸🥷🏼 ❤️ thank you so much for watching and... have yourself a cozy evening!! Happy start of the weekend to you ❤️🌸

    If it makes you feel any better, I only have 1 Twinkle. It was doing well, then Ian happened. It was one of the orchids that didn't get moved in before the storm hit. Even though it is on a mount, it just didn't like being slammed by those winds for 8 hours. I'm not sad about it, the fragrance makes me want to 🤮.
    Also, if it makes you feel better, we had the coldest October day ever. Our high today was 62, it is going to be 57 (13.9 C) tonight. If this turns into the winter of 2008/2009, it is going to be a long, cold winter.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 роки тому +2

      Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe!! Actually, it doesn't make me feel better 😅 I feel bad for the orchids that had to ride out that Ian! I also feel bad for anyone called Ian, because wow 🥲 still... honestly... as mentioned in the video, if I was not doing videos, trying to find solutions to a reoccurring problem and sharing how I try to get around them, this one would have been tossed the moment I saw the bulbs turn yellow. So, the channel and the fact that I had warm months ahead, are the only reasons why this one is still around. I could use the indoor real estate for more space, even if it is not that much space, but... 3 pots and suddenly it makes room for a bigger pot 😅 oh well, we shall see what it does as conditions deteriorate! And he...lll to the no with your temps! Tonight I brought the summer bloomers inside, because I am feeling a chill,... if I am getting goosebumps, then they are definitely hating it outside as well. Tomorrow they can glamcamp again. And so it begins! I hope that there are only freak odd cold stints, and nothing that drags out over a long period of time. I can do 2 days, but then I need a break 🤞🏼 trying to live in the moment!! Thank you so much for watching, amigo!! Hope your day was fabulous ❤️🌸

    cute dogs. Hope your twinkle makes it through winter but it isn't looking great. There are no new roots forming and the new growths are very set back for this time of year. You say you hope you have a nice looking twinkle by next year - get a new one and you will, heehee. Mine were struggling a bit too but also recovering. I am going to experiment feeding mine 500ppm fertilizer (total) this winter! I do load up my water with micronutrients and silicon and extra's that do add at least another 100ppm and my rain water is already quite strong for some reason. so my fertilizer is only around 300ppm. Epsom salt raises the ppm lots too. I want to find out what happens if one does not lower the fertilizer strength over winter. Most guides recommend to lower the amount over winter. But I want to find out what happens if one does not. Like what would happen? What would the symptoms be? Would the plant suffer? I just hate not having the answer. All the guides just say to do it but none mention what would happen if one does not. I know the reason is that they tend to stop growing but twinkles are amongst many that do not stop growing over winter, they flower and produce the new pseudobulbs - there is lots going on with twinkles over winter. I've never gone as low as 100ppm but I do lower the amount when an orchid is not producing roots. Like I mentioned in a previous comment, healthy orchids should always be producing roots - it's my indicator to see if it is struggling or not. So yeah my winter experiment will go ahead, not just on my twinkles but all my orchids that seem to be clear of problems. If you have any experience not lowering the fertilizer in winter I'd love to know. Of course if I suspect it is causing any of mine problems I will back off but I don't think anything bad will happen. I will find out or if you know it will cause me problems please let me know.

      HI Tom 🥰💐 I read your comment with interest, thank you for sharing your plans here... very interesting for anyone looking for alternatives 👍🏼 its going to be a rough ride for my Twinkle, indeed! For that reason, better to show it now, after more than 12 months since we saw it last, than having to 'explain' myself come Spring 😆 there are new roots growing, into the messy part that I am not cutting out. I did not lift the pot, because I had King lying where he was and if I had moved, then he would have moved, meaning, the tripod would have jiggled and who knows what would have happened next. 😤 it was a little frustrating to have him lie down right there, watching my space, the camera and still focussing on the commentary... for a Twinkle video, which should have been easy, my head was working harder than it needed to 🤦🏼‍♀️💆🏼‍♀️ I have some roots coming, the question is, will the progress for long enough to keep whatever growths there are sustained? I fertilize according to light levels and temperature. In the past, if light levels and temperatures matched the needs of the orchid, then I used to not stop with what I was giving orchids in active growth. The new status quo requires me to dial it down. If you have the humidity to buffer against any media drying out at the surface, as well, then I should not see a problem with what you are planning to do. Should you not have any of the above to match the fertilizer levels, then I would dial it down. But, then again, I do not know how big your Twinkles are. Back in my day, I did not stop fertilizing my continuous growers. But I had 14 hrs of light, and my grow space never dropped below 20ºC. But, I also never fertilized at 500ppm... a hybrid can produce roots on a continuous basis, because that is what they are bred for, a species or primary hybrid will have root growth cycle and then a period of time when roots stop growing while the orchid focuses on something else. Complex hybrids, it is possible to have the root growth expectation, but only if it keeps on growing with new growths back to back during, or after a blooming. I have many species orchids that have a very distinct root growth rest, even during the warmest months of the year. I hope that I gave you some thoughts to ponder, based on how I cared for my orchids in the winter, prior to loosing everything. I used to grow my orchids according to their activity, and not according to calender seasons. Made a video about that as well, 'Seasonal Orchid Care'. Now, it is a test and a survival of the fittest, which includes me. I am not well enough to be able to handle the cold without relief, so, we shall see 🙇🏼‍♀️ really appreciate you watching, Tom! Thank you, once again, for sharing your thoughts and reasonings! Hope your day was awesome 👍🏼🌸

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Trish 😍💐 thank you for your feedback and for watching 🤗 I am not going to let her bloom out. I mentioned it in the video, and I am sorry if that info got lost somewhere, but no, I am not letting her bloom out, but I will only cut the spikes off once the buds separate from the spikes. I mentioned it in the video together with the hormonal activity within the orchid to explain why I am waiting that long. Too much energy is being consumed, even leaving the spikes on until the buds form, but I don't want her to put any energy into trying another spike or 2. Hope your day was fabulous, Trish!! Have a lovely evening 🥰🌸
