  • a hard steering wheel to turn is a common problem that can happen to any car ,even new models. but the solution might be very easy and cheap rather than changing power steering pump or the rack and pinion which will cost you lot of money. in this video I tried to give my own experience with this problem so anyone else could try it before even going to mechanics. enjoy the video

    Note to all. This guy is CORRECT ! Try his fix, first, before you go shoveling out hundreds, if not thousands, on other power steering parts n labor. I started with STP spray penetrant lube on those rusted steering shaft U-joints (especially the rusted one under the hood), followed up with 80w90 gear oil forcefully worked into those steering U-joints he mentions, with a gloved hand. Followed by a liberal coating of bearing grease on top of that, further squeezed and worked into that rusted U-joint. (I've discovered that this applies to other manufacturers, but it's a 2002 Camry in my case.) Thanks QueefNada, you da man -- thank you for saving me big bucks at the local garage! 😃😃😃

    Its ok to spray it with WD-40 but it will only clean the Steering wheel joint i recommend to use High Temperature grease it's ony 4 bucks a tube of grease at Walmart and you could use it on your Car doors as well comes in handy 😊

    You should really use a synthetic greese on those kind of parts .. Wd-40 will wear off pretty quick in those under-the-hood conditions

      It should actually work to soften the old grease and should work for a while, although the better fix would be to take it apart and re grease there’s nothing wrong with this

      Thanks for your tip, WD40 worked temporarily. But the synthetic grease like a charm, I also used a small painting brush to smear it out. 👍🏾

      Same problem with my Toyota FJ. A product called Loyd’s Moovit works best.(WD40 isn’t as good a lubricant and wears off too quickly) Loyd’s is a penetrating lubricant. Last a long time before you have to re-apply.
      I thought I was looking a a really expensive bill to replace the power steering pump and/ or the rack and pinion. This worked like a charm and saved me thousands of $$$

    • @SaulEmersonAuthor
      @SaulEmersonAuthor 24 дні тому

      @@Reyzar. Okay - I _have_ definitely heard (for this vehicle, & Toyotas often) - that mystery stiff steering can actually be the universal joint in the steering column - the one near the rack.
      I think that there are only two in the entire column, but the first one is 'inside' the car, allowing for the up/down steering-wheel adjustment - it's a very clean environment, so apparently does not fail much.
      The one in the engine bay however gets dirty, attacked, corroded - & stiff.
      Many have reported that spraying it hard, & 'into' the joints with even WD40 - has fully fixed the problem - at least temporarily - & if it does even do that - you've at least 100% diagnosed the problem.
      Apparently one way to tell if it is this universal joint - is if the stiffness is 'notchy' - as opposed to evenly stiff throughout the movement.
