  • I recently purchased a Royal Enfield Meteor 350, having ridden a dual sport Honda CRF250L for about 4 years. This is my first ride since riding it home from the dealership and I just share my first impressions - things I like, things that are different from my Honda CRF250L and ask for my followers thoughts about my decision.

    A big Hi from me, a pensioner in the UK who rides a Meteor Fireball 350 in the lanes of Hampshire, just for pleasure. I won't bore you with my bike-owning history, but my current Meteor is the second one I've owned. I've only recently acquired it. It's a pre-owned 2021 model with just under 3000 miles on the odometer. . I expect you've read plenty of UA-cam vids on the Meteor 350, but I can make a couple of observations on my returning to the model.
    Just as I found on my previous Meteor, riding over big bumps on the road-surface would produce quite a violent 'kick in the butt'. I've experimented with rear suspension pre-load as per a few UA-cam vid suggestions. The advice was to to do a counter-intuitive thing and add a couple of click-steps of pre-load. I tried that and found just one click added to pre-load improved the ride quality massively (two clicks was a slight a retrograde effect from just the one). My weight in full riding gear is about 74 Kg. I've also noticed that , with my latest Meteor engine having more than completed it's break-in mileage, the general performance is much 'perkier (relatively speaking) than when riding my first (new) one wth a tight engine. I persoanlly don't favour the heel/toe shifter and will be replacing the original gear shifter with a conversion kit that makes the shifter 'toe' only. I fitted the conversion on my first Meteor and it provided a vastly improved gear-change action. (Kit marketed by Tec Bike Parts in the UK, who do mail-order). They do the kit in a silver finish, and also in black, which is what I'll be getting, but Tec are awaiting new stock of the black kit) Part of the reason for my return to Meteor riding was for the added comfort (in my old age I have started to develop arthritis in my right hip) I am really glad I made the change back. If a person is not the type that craves sports-bike performance, the semi-cruiser ergonomics and low revving, but high torque engine, characteristics of the Meteor 350 are a delight. The Meteor handles the 'twisties' in the country lanes surprisingly well, and the riding experience has a soothing but exhilerating effect on the mood 😀. 👋Safe riding, and keep enjoying being a Meteorite.

      Is the Tec Bike Parts gear shifter longer than the original? I've just got a Classic 350 and am going to put the heel and toe on as my feet in anything other than trainers won't fit under the gear shift. I'll give the heel and toe a go but if not look for a longer gear shifter and or move it up a notch on the spline. Cheers for any info.

      @@simonchilli2088 Simon, The TecBike Parts gear shifter I've referred to is just for the Meteor. With the Meteor's footpegs being in a mid position they are further forward than on a conventional position such as the Classic, so a linkage is provided with the Meteor's kit to connect the gear-selector shaft with the forward pivot axis of the operating lever. (The standard Meteor arrangement is also has a linkage set-up). Hope this makes sense. 😁.

    Ive just bought a Meteor exactly the same bike and colour, i downsized from my B M , and i love it , never had a problem with the heal & tow shifter , the note out of the engine is great , mine is the blackedout , air cooled so go anywhere without worrying about coolent , does about 80 to 100 miles per gallon, i love everything about it ❤️
    Ive changed my style of clothes as well , open face helmet , and bomber jacket that suits the style of bike , enjoy your R E 😀 Best wishes from England 🇬🇧.

    I figured the blue and yellow colorway! I have a 2022 Meteor 350. I love it! The only issue I have had is the battery that came with the bike gave out after less than a year and a half. In looking at some discussion boards, this seems to be a common issue. I bought a Yuasa battery and haven't had any issues since.

    I own a 2022 meteor 350 and use it for my daily commute to work and have done just under 10,000 miles on it and like it a lot . The bike has been reliable and cheap to run and is fun to ride . I get about 180 to 200 miles before the reserve light comes on and a dealership service is about £250 for a major 6000 mile service. The bits that aren’t that good are the drive chain which I had to get changed at 6000 miles the tyres which are ok in the dry but not that good in the wet and the high beam on the headlight which puts most of the light skyward and none on the road you can see more on dipped. The chain and the tyres I can get better aftermarket items the headlight I am stuck with as the led one in the aurora isn’t a plug and play swap. You can improve the gear change feel by replacing the pivot bolt and bent wire linkage with one off eBay and the comfort foot pegs are worth doing as well. . The rear shocks when the preload is adjusted are ok and improve with miles . Personally I wouldn’t throw money at the bike to get more performance out of it as the Triumph 400 is only £1000 more in the UK and it has over twice the power which you are not going to get out of the 350 engine. I hope you enjoy the bike as I love mine.

      Thanks for sharing your ownership experience. I like the idea of changing the shifter, I don’t love it. I’m looking forward to getting new tires when these wear out. Which ones did you get?

      @@arideinthecountry At the moment I am still running the ceats as they are still legal and my commute is mainly urban but will be swapping them out for either Avons or Metzlers which I have heard good things about on the UK Facebook owners group. The problem I am having is availability small bike tyres in the UK are generally dominated by cheap brands and the metzlers and Avons over £100 an end and they don’t produce many.

    • @kfkwAL7
      @kfkwAL7 11 днів тому

      Current deals show £3299 on the road for the Meteor and £5299 for the Triumph Baja Scrambler- not really in the same segment? That’s £2000 of a difference. You’re nearly at brand new SV650 money for the Triumph.

    • @johnludmon510
      @johnludmon510 11 днів тому

      @@kfkwAL7 There are deals on the fireball that put it at £2999 plus registration these are bikes from the previous importer getting rid of the last of it’s stock. Personally I do not put the triumph and the meteor in the same bracket (the new Guerrilla is directly comparable ) I just used it as a counter point on spending big on upgrades. I have seen people who have spent nearly £1000 on performance parts only to get an extra 5 hp and lose low down torque and make more noise. I will most probably upgrade the suspension and see if there is anyone who can rework the stock seat but I am not going to just throw money at the bike it has a charm of it’s own as it is .

      Try them all and see what suits you best. For me the Meteor felt more comfortable & was £1,000 cheaper than the Classic. I like the look of the Classic more but it didn't fit me so well. I thought I might chrome the tank and change the wheels to wire but the standard look plus some Indian sourced panniers has grown on me.
