  • One simple slip turned very dangerous when a sharp edge sliced the end of my small intestine open. One of the dangers of having an ileostomy (or colostomy as well) is that the intestine in completely unprotected outside the body, so you have to be a little extra careful with it.
    Luckily it seems to be healing just fine on its own. It’s a few days later as I write this and most of the pain is gone, but it was a good reminder how quickly things can change when you least expect it.

      Mike, as another DAV don't let the disparaging thoughts drag you down. With that definitely stay away from the cocktail of "medications" offered or otherwise. Close to 15 years ago I was given pain meds, not a fix for the problems. I refuse to be addicted to them, so no thanks for them or to them. Yes I was being S### on by the V.A. where I was for quite some time with here's 2 different high dose narcotics. Take them, and come get more as you need or want them, but we don't give a F###.
      Life is short and needs to be lived, seen experienced.

      Debatable, putting on and removing the chain “parking brake” is far easier than removing a drive shaft after the rollover, and depending on the strength of the busses parking brake it may not have been enough to stop it from rolling forward during the rollover in which case he would have to throw those chains anyway.

    I have worked on buses 46 years. several buy outs different contractors. We have had some small wreckers single axle. One of our mechanics / wrecker driver could not get the wrecker to stay in place to pull a bus from ditch , so anchored the front to a tree up the ditch. When he pulled the winch (not in a straight line) it flipped the wrecker over on it's right side into the ditch. We had to hire another wrecker to save our wrecker and get the bus out.

    Personally, I will always assume the parking brake is failed: it won’t work. So what you’ve done to remove the driveline early doesn’t hurt anything it’s just saving yourself from rolling in the gravel.

    One of the best towing channels with straight boom wreckers ive watched is Sumter Wreckers. Mr Hal and crew have two 50 ton V 100 wreckers, as well as other trucks.They are top notch for experienced operators. Lots of channels have rotators. Small communities cant always afford to have a rotator. Nice to see professionals getting it done with the regular big iron. Caseys town is probably lucky to have him with his equipment.

  • @robertgraham7245

    You are correct. Picture fixed pieces of steel, going from the upper frame rail (on its side), welded to a piece going under the side of the bus, welded to a piece going across the roof. When you pull at the roof on the opposite side of the bus, the only force is acting on that point. Replace the steel with a synthetic winch cable (see what I did there?) and it's just the same.
    You would have to have snatch blocks in the trees behind the bus to re-route the force around the bus.

    • @CaseyLaDelle
      @CaseyLaDelle  2 місяці тому +28

      Nailed it. The force pulling on the bus will always be at the point where the rigging touches the bus and the angle it comes off at. The termination of the hook point beyond that makes absolutely ZERO difference

    • @goranfredriksson1297
      @goranfredriksson1297 2 місяці тому +4

      Precicely, the direction of the force on the bus is in-line of the cable where it leaves the bus

    Regardless of the driveline removal or not, adding the chain to the rear wheel ensures you are not counting on the transmission staying in gear (manual), or park (automatic) as case may be. edit: Also hope the flange attachment is all good.

    • @CaseyLaDelle
      @CaseyLaDelle  2 місяці тому +16

      Correct, and being an open differential, even if the driveline was locked up, the upper wheel could have just spun backwards and allowed the ones on the ground to roll anyways

    Casey, I hope you are well after that incident. That not what the mean when they said "you have to put more of yourself into your videos."
    You are spot on with the first contact area(from tow truck) as being your leverage point. That point may change as the bus roles but it is always where the chain first contacts the bus.
    As for pulling on the window frame, this is a rolled bus it's already damaged. So why not. Buses are built pretty tough for a reason. So why not.

    For extra safety (not needed on this job) if your rolling a unit over and don’t have a catch line and you concerned about the bounce place some empty steel 55 gallon drums under the side the casualty will land on when the casualty comes over it lands on the drums the drums crush, not allowing the casualty to continue over it an opposite direction. It’s what we use to do while using a homes 750 for tractor trail roll overs

    One of the things I've come to appreciate after watching your vids is the simplicity, strength and usefulness of chains! Sorry about the injury. I have no doubt your wife worries constantly about you!

    When I saw that front wheel spinning free I knew what was coming. Think about the triangles: especially when climbing around your body needs a 3 point support. Heal well, Casey! Looking forward to the next 1. T🐻 from NL.

    I have Crohns. This one slide you did there, rocked me good! Whew.
    About 5 different doctors (over the course of many years) have told me I can get an ostomy bag for way less pain..... thing is, it's my small intestine that's affected mostly. So where to put it then? Answer: on your continuously shortening end of small intestine. I've said no, because so far in over 30 years, I managed to lose only ONE 6 inch part of that small intestine.
    And I think I cannot be like you. The things I see you do, scooting under trucks on gravel and what not, and this, today. I'm glad to read you are healing okay!
    Also... Im on my belly 24/7... I don't see them connecting the ostomy bag on my back. But if I ever get one, I will most definitely be taking some pointers from your "ease" with it. Or dig an ostomy size hole in my mattrass. LOL.
    🙃
    I am very thankful to not have been forced to get one yet. (out of medical necessity I mean.)

      I got backed into the corner from Crohn`s of small and large intestines, the perferations caused fistulas and not pleasant, choice have ileostomy and get to live a normal life,41 years later, right decision, the longer the intestines are inflamed that causes liver problems down the road.

    Oh wow! I hope you're okay! You have been so open and cool about your ostomy and not to mention how unaffected you are - we tend to forget, but it was terrifying after the fall when you lifted the shirt..

    Casey you showed us accidents can happen even during training. I hope the bleeding stopped, you didn't need to go to the ER, and you heal quickly without getting an infection. Thank you for finishing the video. Not sure I would have done so as quickly as you did.
