Engine unstable!? Misfiring!? Solutions and Problems. DIY injectors removal for troubleshooting
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2024
- Hello guys! Unstable idling in a JTD or MultiJet engine is common, but there is always a solution. Most of the time the problem is actually in the injectors, but it can also be accompanied by other problems physically in the engine. Such as problems with swirl flaps and intake valves and their seats. In this car, in this case, all of these problems are present and they have all been resolved.

Can't wait for the second video.
Next week is out!
I had misfires of my 147.At the workshop my guy cleaned injectors, fuel pump and there were no errors at the diagnostic tablet.
I changed the outside spark plug cables and spark plugs but the problem was still there. Finally I discovered 2 of the coils had tiny cracks and the inside spark boots had been oxidized. At last the problem solved but I spent almost 600 euros for work and parts.
Hello. Yes, they usually happens. We do not have a lot of TS cars here in Portugal, diesels only. But as soon I get one with that issue, I'll do a video
Hi thanks for such an awesome video I’m a diyer and sometimes I do take on jobs Alfa and always wondered where does correction information fit in when looking at real time data after watching this video it gives more confidence on accessing the condition of the injectors
Thanks again
I'm glad it did help. Thanks for watching
This is very useful. There is some oil leak on the injectors of my 1.3jtdm2 (not excessive). There is also a little leak on the left side of the intercooler. Don't know if these are related. I don't feel the loss of power, the car starts normally, although the fuel consumption has gone up. Gonna give it to the mechanic to check it soon. So again, this video comes out at the right time.
Thanks for watching! The 1.3 have a little seal on the injectors area. So they could be leaking.
Spray a bunch of penetrating liquid to the injectors valley every day and drive it hard. Like a week before the removal
@@alfaromeonoproblem Thank you very much for the advice.
Decarbonisation of piston rings with brake fluid, can it be used on petrol engines as well? How do you get rid of the brake fluid from the engine later? Do you need to change the oil twice in a row for that?
Will do for all engines. I did it on my 75 too.
A simple oil change will do. With filter of course
@@alfaromeonoproblem Thanks.
@@alfaromeonoproblemwhat brake oil do you recommend for diesel engine ?
@krtolebiohazardcs1.681 hello. Any DOT oil will do
Man this video was just in time..
Week ago a told you I have the same problem on my punto evo 1.3 multijet you said most of the time are injectors but also can be engine pistons..
I hope and pray to be injectors..
Also I forgot to tel you that smoke smells like fuel and it consumes a lot fuel 8, 9 mixed.. no oil or coolant loss
Thanks for watching. Put a lot of penetrating oil a week before the removal
@alfaromeonoproblem thanks for advice man
Thank You for the video. Eager to see the flaps :). Cheers!
Next Saturday is out!
Thanks for the video!, my GT 1.9 JTD is also having rough idle and I though it was due to the swirl flaps being removed, I will test the injectors and see if I'm able to fix it, thanks again!
Hello. Next week I will have the video for the swirls and intake
Thank you for another good video!
Thanks for watching
Thank you again
Thanks for watching
amazing video ! cant wait for the second video ❤
Thank you very much for watching. Second video coming out next week
Great work.
Thanks for watching
Many thanks Bruno 😃
Does the Dot4 trick work with all clogged piston rings or is it speciifc to JTD rings? (Edit: I have seen your answer to someone else, thanks)
Yeah...well, what about the misfiring 2.0 JTS? Coils and spark plugs work fine and compression is good.
Which error codes (if any) do you have, other than misfiring? Could be the injectors, the injector connectors, dirty intake valves.
Sorry, no jts were sold here in Portugal. I do got have tips.
Checking timing is my first bet
Also check the exhaust camshaft lobes for wear.
Last month I put 4 new injectors. Fourth cilinder injection come from 3.5 to 2.5. I disassembled the engine this week. All 4 piston rings are like new, why I do that i dont know, there was no need to take out piston. But I order new rings and bearings for crankshaf. Head is in bed condition. Camshaft is worn and valves are bed and dirty .But pistons and rings was only dirty and like new. Maybe it will help someone. Engine have 350 000km 1.9 jtdm 8v. Egr off, Dpf off.
Valves and valve seats are the main issue most of the times
Hi, The 156 was never fitted with swirl flaps. Am I right?
Hello. Not that I'm aware of.
Is it also possible to decarbonize the intake valves with brake fluid? I have an 8V JTD with 275kkm on it, the egr was on for it's entire life. I changed the intake manifold because it was very dirty. When the manifold was off I also tried to clean the ports in the head but with not much luck, also I didn't want to drop much carbon into the cylinders. When I first started it after that getting everything reaseembled, there was a very weird noise in the intake manifold, I suspect some valves had a hard time to seal because I dropped some carbon in there. It went away after a few seconds, but I'm afraid there might still be some carbon until today, especially because I still run the egr (with a restrictor with 3 holes), cause I live in cold climate and egr helps the engine to get up to temperature a lot.
Hello. I understand.
You can clean with brake fluid or with nutshell blasting. But you have to rotate the engine to keep them close
Hello, I'm following you with great love. I need help. I own an Alfa Romeo 159 and the problem is that when I leave the parking lot and turn left, I hear exactly a crack like a hammer blow. It is especially heard when I turn the gear lever of 30-40k/h maximum. I changed the planet gear on the right, the bearing and the upper and lower arms and I still can't get them to work. By the way
I heard the sound after I changed the clutch kit. Thank you very much.
Hello. Try to send me the sound. But seems like something is loose
@@alfaromeonoproblem Thank you very very much for answering me. I have reached the end of my powers. I even put cameras under the car to find out where it is and I still did not succeed. I will send the video by email
Excellent video, thanks for the insight. I have a 1.3 multi jet and even with new glow plus which did slightly improve the issue, I still get a little misfire on stat up for 10 ~ 15 seconds, Is this normal please?
Hello. Can you check my latest video? Cane out yesterday, normally that is the main issue on the 1.3 engines
@@alfaromeonoproblemSure will. Thanks👍
Hey, great video! I was wondering if you have some advice. I have an Alfa Romeo GT 2.0JTS, it has done 169.000km. It takes a few cranks to start, it idles okay (not perfectly but not that rough). Also doesn't run great when it's cold, it tends to do a misfire (code p304) if I give it full throttle (most of the time it happens around 3000rpm). Sometimes it pulls just fine, but sometimes it seems louders and doesn't pull that great around that 3000rpm (it stutters and or misfires). The problem gets worse when there are multiple people in the car.
I changed out the spark plugs (all of them had carbon build-up). I tried swapping ignition coil from cilinder 4 to cilinder 2 (but the code remains p304). I also gave it an oil change, new oil filter and a new air filter. It doesn't seem like a headgasket problem, the car doesn't have any smoke and the oil and coolant look good. I will also change the fuel filter this week. I put some injector cleaner ik the tank as well, but that didn't help much.
I'm gonna do a compression test soon to see if the problem is the compression. Do you have any advice what I could do next?
I've only had the car a month, but it's such an awesome car I want it to be in the best shape it can be.
Thanks,
Michael
The misfire has also occured a few times when I just drove of after starting the car (I always make sure to let it idle for a minute when cold and don't push it hard until it's at temperature). And when the misfire happens, it just seems like the engine hesitates a bit, it's not like I hear any loud bangs or stuff
Hello. Most of times it's bad timing. People just do not do it properly. But the carbon on the plugs is not good at all. Did you noticed any improvement after the new plugs?
@@alfaromeonoproblem No the new plugs have not solved the issue. First I put some Magnetti Marelli Plugs in, but decided to get the NGK platinum ones and put those in. The magnetti plugs were only in there for 600km, but all of them were black from carbon
hi, i have an alfa 156 1.9 and suddenly the power disappears even after a few minutes it comes back again repeating this thing , can be the mass air sensor ...
Hello. Do not replace anything until you have a good diagnosis.

Does that autel unit read all modules on say a 156 and 166?
Hello. Depending on the year, most on the units, not all. But the more modern Autel, like the Elite, it will for sure
I use Multi ECU Scan sowtare (50 UK pounds for the licence) and a set of cable with adapters for different modules from iDiagnostics (about the same price). But for 159.
Send me video where you explain piston decarbonisation
