baker, baker, baker. hello. hi Justin. so this is a 2005 Velvel XC70.. um.. that my shop Baker Garage built for our best customer Roland Bruegger, he's a professional BASE jumper and uh he needed something with a little ground clearance that uh can get him out to remote jumps and also still handle uh cross country road trips and this was the product of that. nice. it IS nice, thanks. so for this project there hasn't really been a lotta good lift kits on the market for these cars. there's been a couple people but they were problematic and i never felt comfortable putting them on my customers cars. um but a couple years ago a company called Cross Country Performance came out and uh released a really high quality 2" lift kit for these that i've done a number of over the years and they're fantastic but this particular customer wanted to go just a little bit more than that so that's where our 4" kit came in so we took the tried and true Cross Country Performance 2" kit and then we basically cobbled together some factory XC90 parts um some other pieces that we machine in house custom make stuff work uh to get another 2" of lift so this is lifted 4" overall. it's got just about 12" of ground clearance which is pretty impressive for a soft roader. what size are those tires? sooo tires we're runnin' the a Yokohama Geolander uh G015 we run these on pretty much all our lifted XC builds. they are a 265.. nope. 235/70/17 um. those are runnin' over the top of a uh BBS RGR wheel that we got through a company called 5x108 Heavyweight. these cars have a really goofy bolt pattern, 5x108, that is only shared with Ferrari's and some newer Ford's, so they're very difficult to find cool wheels for.. so.. 5x108 Heavyweight takes care of all that by sourcing all kinds of used wheels and then they send them to you refinished so these wheels are actually old. Simmons is old! but they came to me looking brand new again for a very fair price. so.. that's all over the top of um some custom powder coated Brembo brakes from like uh 2004-2007 S60 and V70R uh, they're 330mil front.. 4-piston Brembo calipers front and rear and uh we're also runnin the uh XC90 front axles as well. these cars when you lift them too much they get into a CV bind and the XC90 axles can take way more of articulation way more angle so we run those on the anything over the 2" lift. alright so we're runnin' a 2009 uh S60 T5 engine block uh because it's got thicker cylinder walls than uh all the other 5 cylinder turbo engines uh it's the weakest link on these in higher boost applications- split the cylinder wall so.. upgraded the motor we're runnin' a K24 turbo off of a uh 2004-2007 S60 or V70R um, that's feeding through Snabb Performance uh front mount intercooler. we're also runnin' the Snabb Performance cold air intake kit as well. um, it's running a Hilton Tuning Stage 3 tune with uh torque limiter delete, an eco mode, fuel economy mode and we're runnin' a uh S60R green injectors a well, as well. we we figure it's somewhere probably between 320 and 350 horsepower. and you sound super excited about that? yea. it makes whishy noises. dude sick! that was so sick! alright so we've got new OEM replacement headlight housings but we've replaced the bulbs with high output LED units, and then down here we've got some Rigid 4-pods that actually fit perfectly into the factory fog light location hole. you wrecked it. alright so under the car anything over um, a 2" lift we have to run the 1" subframe drop spacer here and that comes from Cross Country Performance. And that puts a lotta strain on the factory subframe bushings so we replace all the subframe bushings with delrin units from Kaplhenke Racing. And you can get a good shot of the XC90 axles right there nice solid angle on 'em. uhh we've also got IPD braided steel brake lines uhh and then the IPD steel skid plate as well just so we don't have any uh, accidents with the oil pan. alright so my customer Roland, that owns this car uh he's a he has lots of gear that he carries with him that is not enough to fit in the back because when he's out remote in Utah, uh he actually sleeps in the he's gonna sleep in the back of the car so he needs somewhere to store all of his uh BASE jump kit, so uh, Spirit Of 1876 got him hooked up with the Thule box, crossbars that fit perfectly on the factory rails, and uh then they also um figured out a way to make some MaxTrax pins work up here as well. because he spends some of his years in the Outer Banks in North Carolina so, he's gotten stuck in the sand out there before in his other Volvo wagon so he just wanted to make sure it didn't happen again. yea. and it's the ultimate offroad fashion accessory. plus grey and orange, i mean that's.. that's a great combo there. the real- the REAL reason i did the MaxTrax more than anything was for design because we needed to tie the orange calipers together with something and this is.. the best thing i could come up with. plus this is kinda tight have a handle ya know if ya need to like, climb up here. got a little standing platform..? for bird watching. so out back we did a Volva OEM Class 3 hitch with the 7-pin plug um. this guy, he's actually gonna be towing a little utility trailer cross country with this thing so he specified that and then when he goes offroad um we're gonna do a Rigd Industries spare tire tire carrier back here as well eventually. um, upon uh, a special request from the customer drunkenly one night hanging out at the shop he asked if it was possible to have strobing LED's that pulsed with the music under the tailgate. so it needed some place to charge stuff back here so we put in this little um, multi purpose 12 volt panel. little gauge to keep an eye on battery voltage. USB plug's there, 12 volt socket here. and then we've got the uh controller for the lights here on a little magnet and then also we've got another one of these on his phone so when he's back here sleeping he's got somewhere to put it. this is a controller for the music box. and then we've an auxiliary fuse panel down below us here below the sub floor.. uh.. to power all the stuff. this car also has the ultra rare factory 3rd row seat which is cool. so you can hang in there. and then the tail light or the trunk light back here is pitiful so we got this guy: pivots so you can light outside, pivots so you can light inside. you gotta 'nother factory 12 volt here? yea, you can do a.. fridge? Vulvel actually had- when this car came out, 2001, Velvul had a plug-in Dometic fridge that would go in right here from the factory. factory option. 2001. Overland pioneers. and what kind of carpet vacuum pattern do you guys run back here? Backgammon. Cones Of Dunshire. this uh Concorso Auto Detail special. alright so this is a shot of the rear lift here. umso this is the 2" Cross Country Performance here and then up above that- this aluminum plate, that is the uh, that's also a Cross Country Performance piece machined from scratch upper strut spacer. then back here we're also runnin' the Cross Country Performance 1" differential drop just to save any sort uh driveline vibration problems that you may have. yea, you know-i used to hate on the offroad car thing a lot and this thing has completely changed my mind. it's so much fun being able to just rip up the canyon like you're in a sports car, and then once you hit the trail, air the tires down an i mean, you can go pretty much anywhere you can in a truck an, it's fast, it gets great fuel economy, what more couldja ask for? anyways we'll see ya Jean. you took the key. cottammit. so what's the year, make and model of this thing? what year is it? 2004. no. 2005. baker, baker, baker. you got an extra T in your shit, or is it the other way around?
My first Swedish Hjoopty was an old B-22, then a 165e, then a bunch of 240s and an 1800, then a 940 and finally a '97 S90, aka Der Kommisar. I finally moved up to the Gen 2 P2 class with a '02 V70 XC LP Turbo and a sweet sweet '05 V70 R HP Turbo. At 175K miles, the XC finally sucked the ball, spring, and pin from the failed PVC intake manifold check valve banjo bolt into the #2 cylinder, which got into the head and hammered one of the intake valves, a common flaw with this design (if you haven't already, replace that damn banjo bolt before it fails and kills your valves in #2!). So I used the opportunity to do a complete tear down to the white block, replacing all the valves and springs/guides/seals/keepers/tapppets, cam seals, the clogged carbon components of the PVC system and the crapped out EVAP evac system hoses and valves, the starter motor, all the rotted wire harnesses and loom, injectors and coils, 18 years of grime and oil, and finally decided to replace the turbo because why not? Question, tho: to modify the LP turbo with the HP turbo system like you did in this project car, what do I need to also change besides the HP breather tubes and boost lines? Should I just pull all the HP turbo components from the junk yard and buy a new HP turbo unit? Does it require a different ECR, MAP sensor, other sensors, etc? Maybe a video on this subject would be well-received by those who own both LP and HP turbo cars and would like to upgrade the LP to the HP, especially as I would like to be able to tow my various toy trailers with the XC and think the extra horses in a HP turbo system would be the shizz in the Rockies? And links to the 2" spacer kit etc. would be really helpful as it was difficult to pick up all the audio. Sorry to geek out here, but it would appear that Justin/Baker Garage seems to know which end of a rachet to hold on to. Gonna turn this into my main ski moty for this winter, and the lift kit and disco lights in the back would be like, Shazaam! A killer sound system, disco lights, a Weber Kettle, a double sleeping bag, and liberal quantities of Amaretto and Scooby Snax are guaranteed apres ski base layer removers, IMHO! Thanks for any insight, and keep the videos coming!
that’s awesome and thanks for watching! unfortunately i don’t have many answers on the tech aspects but Baker Garage should be able to help you out if you’re trying to make something similar.
The P2 chassis XC70 looks great with the 4" lift, BBS rims, Brembo brake caliper upgrade and refreshed headlight assemblies. The owner should really appreciate the enhanced CV-half shafts, front end chassis improvements and rear end chassis improvements to assist with lift.

they’re a lot cooler than i thought they were. a couple years ago i learned about OSCO and they take those things lots of places i wouldn’t believe. also appreciate it bud, thanks for tuning in!
Holy shit. I'm new to the XC70 (but not Volvos) so I'm looking up ways to lift mine. This was hilarious, I wasn't expecting that. Great job on the build too!
I'm building one of these right now. Mine just has stock size BFG ATs stage 0 poly silicone everything at the moment. I enjoyed this video cool car. I plan on a K24 and Hilton tune too. The only thing I plan on doing different is a huge transmission cooler as well as a fmic while I got the front bumper off.
340HP is pretty crazy for a grocery getter. Looks like those wheels protruding past the wheel wells would be illegal in most states. Should put a KC roof/light rack on there. It would look bad ass.

I have 265/60/18 Geolandar GO15's on my Freelander 2 HSE (LR2 in the USA). It has a 45mm front and 50mm rear lift. Being the 3.2,it has the Volvo Si6 engine fitted - along with other Volvo parts and lots of FoMoCo parts too. This includes the 5x108 stud pattern, so maybe look at wheels from the Freelander 2, the Range Rover Evoque and the Discovery Sport if rims seem to be hard to find as they all share the same pattern. I currently have RR Evoque rims on mine. Despite being a Land Rover owner for the last 30 years, if one came along at the right price, I'd buy an XC70 and lift it. They look awesome like this .

Fair point. And that locker! That’s maybe what I’m most excited about. Have you ever felt the need for a front locker? I’ve never had them at all but two seems better than one, right?

This thing is awesome. Needs a limo tint on the rear windows for more stealthy sleeping and it’d be perfect. Do you happen to know if the rear axels are from an xc90 as well? I’m slowly bringing my xc70 up to this level.
ooooff, TAN DENIM Baby, that spices thinks up, man! We may never meet, but I may end up with XC90s axles some time down the road.. Yea.. Because of what you said. Yea, YOU, the real mans man with orange cap and those sexy TAN DENIMS you are! ok, i'll stop.
B Roll Offroad Where can i get the tuning? i am looking in having one done now and starting to gather information, also where did you got the lift kit?
Idk if this is still an active page but what did you do to prevent the rear wheels from pushing forward? I just lifted my V60 cross country and following the lift the rear wheels pushed towards the front of the fender flare.
i could be wrong but i believe that’s the natural path of the suspension and when you hit a bump and compress it, it moves backwards as it goes up… is it rubbing anywhere?
@@BRollOffroad Oh I rub like crazy but my math was wrong for the tire size. But even when just sitting on flat ground when you lift a volvo the rear wheels generally go towards the front of the fender flare. Im unsure if it is just something with the way the subframe is designed of the length of the strut. I am hoping with my new suspension from Flatout Suspension that it may fix the problem.
I have the issue that after the Lift (only 1") the rear end of the front control arm is hitting the frame. Did Justin cut something or is a subframe lift the answer? Love that build. If its ever for sale I will ship it to Europe.
you can get them right from Rigid, they have a bunch of different fog lights. could maybe browse their site then search that specific model and maybe someone’s got a sale for Black Friday 👍
love this ... do you have a kit that would work on a volvo thats all XC90 and not just the axles? i heard going over 2 inch lift was bad... i know nothing any advice would be cool ..... cheers from australia!!
Whats the reliability on something like this? Im kinda interested in something like it now. How much are the parts and labor compared to a Honda for example.
i think they’re pretty good, as long as you don’t run a ton of boost should be fine, Volvo has been using turbos forever. if you can source used parts they’re super cheap but new everything i bet is a little higher than a Honda although i’ve never owned one.
Great video, but as mentioned the audio is pretty iffy. Why not redub the actual content? Not saying this as a bash as other than technical issues loved it!
It’s a cool project but whole reason I’m considering an XC70 for this purpose is how reliable they are. Modifying it a bunch pretty much guarantees you’ve lost that benefit.
i’ve modified every car i’ve ever had since the first. depends on what you’re doing then you weigh the pros and cons of each mod. i just bought a Honda Fit to commute 6hrs 1 way for jobs that are usually 7-12 days then 6hrs back. i wish it was faster but i got it for the mpg and that would likely lower it plus i’d be more inclined to screw around lowering it further plus it’ll cost a ton to do anything meaningful. on the other hand i just got lowering springs, struts, and a thicker rear anti sway bar for about $700. this will have aero advantages for mpg as well as being able to hold my speed through corners instead of slowing down and speeding up. every time you use your brakes you’re wasting gas too… in most cases on a windy 50mph road i’ll be able to set the cruise control at a few over and never touch it, even better mpg! it’ll also look better and be more fun on the mountain roads where i live. the cons are basically a rough ride and you have to think about steep driveways and watch for potholes better but eventually you learn them all near you and avoid. i don’t even mind the stiff ride, i actually like it. my brother thinks i’m an idiot, i love it, to each their own!
@@BRollOffroad- well first off, you picked the wrong damn car. How many times did we go through ‘ Toy ota - Prii uus’ debates and it was clearly winning every time. The V type for Wagon. Now you’re stuck, huh - with the wrong car ? Hobonda Fit, rather un fit. 🍹 No mods make that a Prii uus, copy ?
Hi, insane build! I‘d like to lift my XC70 too, but only 2“. Otherwise my wife would be upset. Could not find a proper lift kit. Badswede offers only for P2 models and mine is P3(MY2014). baker, baker, baker.
hello.
hi Justin.
so this is a 2005 Velvel XC70.. um.. that my shop Baker Garage built for our best customer Roland Bruegger, he's a professional BASE jumper and uh he needed something with a little ground clearance that uh can get him out to remote jumps and also still handle uh cross country road trips and this was the product of that.
nice.
it IS nice, thanks. so for this project there hasn't really been a lotta good lift kits on the market for these cars. there's been a couple people but they were problematic and i never felt comfortable putting them on my customers cars. um but a couple years ago a company called Cross Country Performance came out and uh released a really high quality 2" lift kit for these that i've done a number of over the years and they're fantastic but this particular customer wanted to go just a little bit more than that so that's where our 4" kit came in so we took the tried and true Cross Country Performance 2" kit and then we basically cobbled together some factory XC90 parts um some other pieces that we machine in house custom make stuff work uh to get another 2" of lift so this is lifted 4" overall. it's got just about 12" of ground clearance which is pretty impressive for a soft roader.
what size are those tires?
sooo tires we're runnin' the a Yokohama Geolander uh G015 we run these on pretty much all our lifted XC builds. they are a 265..
And that puts a lotta strain on the factory subframe bushings so we replace all the subframe bushings with delrin units from Kaplhenke Racing. yea.
and it's the ultimate offroad fashion accessory.
plus grey and orange, i mean that's.. that's a great combo there.
the real- the REAL reason i did the MaxTrax more than anything was for design because we needed to tie the orange calipers together with something and this is.. the best thing i could come up with. plus this is kinda tight have a handle ya know if ya need to like, climb up here.
got a little standing platform..?
for bird watching. so out back we did a Volva OEM Class 3 hitch with the 7-pin plug um. this guy, he's actually gonna be towing a little utility trailer cross country with this thing so he specified that and then when he goes offroad um we're gonna do a Rigd Industries spare tire tire carrier back here as well eventually. um, upon uh, a special request from the customer drunkenly one night hanging out at the shop he asked if it was possible to have strobing LED's that pulsed with the music under the tailgate. so it needed some place to charge stuff back here so we put in this little um, multi purpose 12 volt panel. little gauge to keep an eye on battery voltage. and what kind of carpet vacuum pattern do you guys run back here?
Backgammon. Cones Of Dunshire. this uh Concorso Auto Detail special. alright so this is a shot of the rear lift here. umso this is the 2" Cross Country Performance here and then up above that- this aluminum plate, that is the uh, that's also a Cross Country Performance piece machined from scratch upper strut spacer. then back here we're also runnin' the Cross Country Performance 1" differential drop just to save any sort uh driveline vibration problems that you may have. yea, you know-i used to hate on the offroad car thing a lot and this thing has completely changed my mind. it's so much fun being able to just rip up the canyon like you're in a sports car, and then once you hit the trail, air the tires down an i mean, you can go pretty much anywhere you can in a truck an, it's fast, it gets great fuel economy, what more couldja ask for? anyways we'll see ya Jean. you took the key.

they’re a lot cooler than i thought they were. a couple years ago i learned about OSCO and they take those things lots of places i wouldn’t believe. also appreciate it bud, thanks for tuning in!
The haldex system is simply incredible. That's what makes these so formidable.
Saw this wagon when getting my XC70 serviced at Baker. Great team over there!
good to hear!
nicely done , clean build !!!
Holy shit. I'm new to the XC70 (but not Volvos) so I'm looking up ways to lift mine. This was hilarious, I wasn't expecting that. Great job on the build too!
thanks! long time friends, we had a ton of fun making it. i’d argue his van walkaround is better though 😂
hope the Volvo treats you well!
I'm building one of these right now. Mine just has stock size BFG ATs stage 0 poly silicone everything at the moment. I enjoyed this video cool car. I plan on a K24 and Hilton tune too. The only thing I plan on doing different is a huge transmission cooler as well as a fmic while I got the front bumper off.
thanks and nice that’ll be cool! i love cars with BFG AT’s.. i love anything with BFG AT’s haha.
I love this whole thing. Wish I could do all that to my 07 XC90.
Very badass but I can't justify the cost bc you will never get your money back.
@@DejaVu8 this is the type of thing you build because it’s exactly what you want and you’re keeping it till it won’t run anymore
340HP is pretty crazy for a grocery getter. Looks like those wheels protruding past the wheel wells would be illegal in most states. Should put a KC roof/light rack on there. It would look bad ass.
That is a beast of a wagon. I need one.
yea it’s a good time!
I like even b4 i watch, this build is amazing.
That is a wonderful build!
dude that was so sick
A+ editing on this lads
i spent way too long on this so i appreciate it greatly! 🙏

hey thanks!
They look awesome like this .
good info, thanks for sharing! that all sounds awesome 👍

yea it’s fun, definitely nice being able to go the speed limit around corners haha.
Nice rig, what a brute! Lovin it.
Never seen it go offroad much. Thats what should be bro.
you should watch the Rollins Pass trail video. not our car so it isn’t much but we drive on dirt ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Absolutely sick. And hilarious. Just watched your xterra walk around (I just got one myself) but now I’m wishing I’d got another Volvo.
nah i like low range too much haha.
Fair point. And that locker! That’s maybe what I’m most excited about. Have you ever felt the need for a front locker? I’ve never had them at all but two seems better than one, right?
2 is better than one yes but i just got my first one a couple years ago haha. i don’t know 2 is necessary for what i do.
love the video man. funny, but also actually a badass build 😂 just got my own 07 XC90 and was just looking at build videos and this is actually cool even if it’s an xc70

Haha! You guys are hilarious! Awesome ride!
thanks bud! the car is sick, had a really fun time seeing what it could do, just wish we did a harder trail. given that this is our other buddy’s car we didn’t want to get too crazy but i’m sure he’ll take us out sometime soon.
This thing is awesome. Needs a limo tint on the rear windows for more stealthy sleeping and it’d be perfect. Do you happen to know if the rear axels are from an xc90 as well? I’m slowly bringing my xc70 up to this level.
haha yea and i do believe they are.

@@BRollOffroad awesome! Thanks
Gearing... How badly has the acceleration or crawling been deteriorated since going to such bigger tires?
B Roll Offroad Where can i get the tuning? i am looking in having one done now and starting to gather information, also where did you got the lift kit?
How did you get the struts back in the front after addding lift block ?
Офигенный вольвотрон!!!👍
спасибо приятель!
This car fukin SLAPS
i agree!
I have the issue that after the Lift (only 1") the rear end of the front control arm is hitting the frame. Did Justin cut something or is a subframe lift the answer? Love that build. If its ever for sale I will ship it to Europe.
I just realised the (this) xc70 is the “new” Cherokee XJ

i gave it a whirl myself, while parked haha.
Where can I get those four pod leds that go in the fog lamp spot? That car is awesome
you can get them right from Rigid, they have a bunch of different fog lights. could maybe browse their site then search that specific model and maybe someone’s got a sale for Black Friday 👍

love this ... do you have a kit that would work on a volvo thats all XC90 and not just the axles?
i heard going over 2 inch lift was bad...
i know nothing any advice would be cool ..... cheers from australia!!
i’m not too sure since it’s not my car, i would check out Cross Country Performance 👍
Dear. This is Korea. I have an Xc70 2011. I'm looking for a lift-up kit. If yes, can you tell me where to buy it? plz.
check with Cross Country Performance but not sure if they ship to Korea.
Ordering axles for my 01 v70xc what year xc90 do I need?
2005 XC90 with a 5 cylinder engine ONLY! you’ll also need the spacers that Baker Garage sells- @bakergarage.co on insta or 303-722-8658.
Liked the car and information, not so sure about the weirdness of the guy.
which guy?
Whats the reliability on something like this? Im kinda interested in something like it now. How much are the parts and labor compared to a Honda for example.
i think they’re pretty good, as long as you don’t run a ton of boost should be fine, Volvo has been using turbos forever. if you can source used parts they’re super cheap but new everything i bet is a little higher than a Honda although i’ve never owned one.
@@BRollOffroad thanks brotha. Ima have to look into these a little more.
Where did you get all of your parts from I am trying to do this to my V70 but I don't know where to start
unfortunately that guy left the business to start his own 4x4 van conversion shop so i’d start with Cross Country Performance.
Hey that's sick, how much would it cost to get this build done?
Nice job guys- like the XC90 adds, did you mess with the stock trans or Haldex unit?
“Nope. Nothing can be done with them. Just had a Hilton tuning torque limiter delete.”
some one please tell me where i can get a decent 4" lift kit. it looks so cool.
Volvo is the best
yea it’s a good time haha, thanks for watching!

Great video, but as mentioned the audio is pretty iffy. Why not redub the actual content? Not saying this as a bash as other than technical issues loved it!
thanks! getting Justin to do this once was enough, we’d never recapture the spontaneity 😂 thanks for watching!
Just curious I have a 2004 XC70 soon to be lifted... What year of XC90 axles do you recommend?
any 5-cyl XC90 axles 👍
@@BRollOffroad that is not quite correct, i have tried x3 axles from different xc90 years and none of those fit

how much is the lift kit?
No mods make that a Prii uus, copy ?
Hi, insane build! I‘d like to lift my XC70 too, but only 2“. Otherwise my wife would be upset. Could not find a proper lift kit. Badswede offers only for P2 models and mine is P3(MY2014). I have concerns that a spacer lift(crosscountryperformance) will have bad affects on driving habits, especially on tight/fast corners.
Any suggestions?
Greetings from the Austrian Alps!
Can’t wait to see your wagon in action !

from what i’ve seen the CCP spacer lift still handles great, still tight, no crazy body roll. here’s a video of this one, since neither of us own the car it’s not too crazy but at least it’s dirt:

so far you’re the first to mention it i think! for us it’s instinct at this point when one says “meet at Baker” to be like “baker baker baker!” haha.

he says he got it at the Volvo dealership, PN: 30682087
So how hard is it to source parts to do a 2” lift on a 08 xc70? Wheel spacers too
that can be had straight from Cross Country Performance, it’s only gets slightly complicated if you’re going 4”.
@@BRollOffroad thanks for the reply. That was one reason I got an xc70 is I saw some lifted and really liked the look!
