In complete admiration of Dr Abdal. It took me to the end of this video to learn what I failed to know over 10 years. Not a bad explanation of the sectarian differences, fairly objective and wholesome.
It is entirely incomplete in terms of ignoring the precipitating factor at Ghadr al khumm. Sunnism is the sect, the 'branch' if you will and those that follow the 12 imams are the trunk...the actual original root stock.

@ByChoiceMuslim We just need to be VERY careful about making accusations. Shia, like sunni, are diverse in beliefs, opinions and practices. Sure I agree, if anyone believes (or does not believe) in something which puts them outside the fold of Islam, then they are as such. BUT just because someone identifies themselves as "shia" does not NECESSARILY do the same. Do you see my point? It behooves us to give our brothers and sisters the BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT. @Willi Thanks for the info. I am curious about this author, a "Great" Sunni scholar, who writes a book that "pushes away" 5 Million people to become sectarians i.e. Shia. This person, if your info is correct - and I do not doubt that, does/did not uphold the message of the Quran and Sunna as he created a schism / division in Islam. I would have applauded his effort in bringing back these 5 Million Muslim to the main fold of Islam with its two main pillars: The Quran and the Prophet's (SAAWS) Sunna. Ali (RA), the 4th Khalipha, did not preach and urge anybody the follow him instead of God's Holy book - The Quran and the Prophet's (SAAWS) Sunna. Had this or another author(s) focused on the contradictions of the Shia sect principally, he or they would have a good deed in bringing the Muslim Umma UNITED. With All of My Respects - NO insult, direct or implied, meant.

Not all of Christianity has a unified hierarchy with a supposedly perfect head. Roman Catholics have the pope, but most Protestant churches have loose associations or hierarchies that are more practical than doctrinal.

Alhamdulillah, the sheikh has great insight but I believe he is a bit misinformed about the people of Oman being kharajite. They may be descendants of the khwarj but the contemporary Omani people follow the Ibadhi madhab. It's definitely not the same as the khwarj of close to 1400 years ago.

All the successors of the Prophet were not having any body guard because they assumed the citizens were behaving well.Abu Bakar was stern with people who claimed to be false prophets because thay would cause division amongst muslims. Because of loose safe guarding of safety of lives of these successors the enemies took full advantage of situation.Until the time of Othman ,Othman refused the protection of Ali because according to him let be if Allah wanted it to be so.Muawiyah was not happy with this situation because Ali was unable to do anything about it.That was how I think ruling was based on family succession.

Can you have compassion with a Shia who abuses the companions and the wife of the prophet (saw). How about the Shia who say the current Qur'an is not the real one and pages were ripped out. Shia need to stop this before expecting any compassion.

We do not abuse the companions or the wife of the Prophet (saw). The narrations(hadith) accepted by the Shia School of thought is different than the four sunni schools. Difference in hadith acceptance gives different descriptions of the various companions and their acts in history, that's why shias sometimes don't have a good image of some of the caliphs. The shia school of thought believes are this:
(1) Tawhid, Belief in oneness of God;
(2) Nubuwwat, Belief in the Prophets;
(3) Qiyamat, 'Belief in the Day of Judgement.
(4). 'Adl, Justice of God
(5) Imamat, the successorship of the Prophet.

Not only did he do this, he took the khilafat from its rightful successor - Imam Ali. The Prophet addressed the muslims after his first and only Hajj not long before he died, proclaiming 'Man kuntum Mawla, Aliyyun mawla." or 'For who ever I am the Mawla (guardian, master) Ali is his Mawla." The khilafat who taken from the Commander of the Faithful THREE times before he recieved it, in which time Islam had become its near antithesis - an Empire, forcibly converting entire lands to acquire territory... Which was haraam.
Aisha, the youngest wife of the Prophet, went to WAR with Ali, along with her allies Mu'awiyah, Amr bin Aas, and generally the whole clan of Bani Umayya. Remember the saying of the Prophet that I quoted which you replied to.
These people are revered by the sunnis. I am not saying the sunnis are somehow evil. There is no way. They are merely ignorant of our Islamic history, and follow their scholars without question.
To follow the people who warred with Ali, and indeed the people who were always at war with the Ahlulbayt of the Prophet in its entirety, is to oppose them.
He didn't hate him. I suggest first you read Nahjul balagha (the writings of Imam Ali) and second understand that the Prophet never appointed Abu Bakr his successor, yet appointed Imam Ali (a.s.) on multiple occasions.

Who did the Holy Prophet take with him to the event of Mubahila to represent equivalency to himself? Of ALL the companions who were available at the time? Who was then honoured by Allah SWT by being referred to as the 'self' of the Holy Prophet in 5:55?

And the explanation of Quran is the explanation of the prophet. And that’s where Hadith comes from. We have to stick to both to be on the straight path. Hopefully this helps you. Exactly, we have the noble Quran, the scientifically documented sunnah of the Prophert (saw): why do the Shias need to make up stories and lie all the way? Even their ablutions and prayers are twisted, that's how sick this sect is.

The whole foundation of sunnah is based on a false argument.
You know why ablutions and prayers are different because Khalifah made changes and this is even documented in sunni hadiths.
Umar introduced the crossing of arms in prays. This why maliki's who are sunni don't cross their arms because the prophet never did.
The quran doesn't say to wash feet even famous sunni scholar ar Razi admits
(O you who believe! when you rise up to prayer, wash your faces and your hands as far as the elbows and wipe your heads and your feet to the (two) ankles. 5:6)
Imam ar-Razi declared: “The evidence of those, who thought that wiping the feet was obligatory, was based upon the two kinds of reciting the phrase (and your feet) mentioned in the verse of wudu’. Ibn Katheer, Hamza, Abu Amr an Aasim recited the phrase in genitive and Nafi’, ibn Aamir and Aasim recited it in accusative. Reciting it in genitive determined that (your feet) was coupled to (your heads) and then as it was obligatory to wipe the head it would be obligatory to wipe the feet. As for reciting it in accusative, it also determined that it was obligatory to wipe the feet because the saying (and wipe your heads) made (your heads) as object and (your feet) was coupled to (your heads) so both of them were objects of the verb (wipe)”
The interpretations of the quran is not straight forward. The Prophet said to take the interpretation of the quran from him and his ahlulbayt. Quran even warns in it that verses can be taken out of context.
The sunni claim the prophet said to follow the quran and sunnah.
Problem is in their 2 most authentic books sahih bukhari and sahih muslim you will find it say quran and ahlulbayt but you won't find it saying quran and sunnah.
If that is their most authentic book doesn't have basis of how they gather the evidence for their beliefs it is a problem. That is an understandment.
Question why don't they follow the quran and the ahlulbayt? They claim they do but the khalifah made changes which they will openly admit and they follow these changes.
So they aren't following what the prophet asked.

It doesn't matter what you are, if you believe in Allah and the last day, and the last prophet. You are a Muslim. Allah says he will sort out the disputes we had amongst each other. We are all Muslims, no matter which tradition thinks they are right.
And what happen if you worship people (Ali, Hussein) instead of Allah? If you believe that Gabriel made "a mistake" when he brought the revelation to the Propphet (saw) instead of Ali? These are principles of the deviant Shia sect. Not mentioning the crazy stories about "12 imams" who are alllegedly superior in attributes to the prophets. There is a reason why after all these centuries Chiism remains a minority: people are not stupid.
In every muslim sect we have added information, after the Quran was written. what happens when we take them as the words of the prophet, when they weren't?
Don't single out Shia please, because sunnis themselves follow different books and sayings. Like God made a mistake by issuing 50 prayers a day then after Mohammed pleaded with him he reduced it to 5. So God changes laws on prayer because a man asked him to? And I can go on and on.
We love Christians and Jews so much, and we believe in interfaith dialogue but when it comes to each other and our secterian differences we call each other non believers? Again we may have differences but it does not make us non muslim. The differences we see were inspired by zionists, orientalists and western colonial powers who dug up information to divide and conquer muslims by highlighting differences. These differences were never a problem during Ottoman rule or for that matter most of the Islamic golden age. These ideas of hate and intolerance are the result of power hungry people who wish for people to hate and destroy each other on fabled ideas that were never a Muslim one to begin with.
No one called himself a Sunni or Shia at the time of the prophet. These are differences that we may not agree on but in the end we are still Muslim. Don't let others insite hate in you. I am going to stress that if you believe in the Quran, we may not all be scholars, but if you do believe it, you are a Muslim. Period!

There is a verse in the Quran that tells us what to believe, the angels, the books sent (not hadith books) but those sent before, prophets, God is one and the day of judgement. As far as I know every muslim sect believes in this.

When were the sunni sects formed?
There is not such a thing as sunni who follows sunnah of the prophet (sawaws). Sunni sect were formed many decades after the prophet and they are the follower of the sunnah of banu umayah not the prophet (sawaws).
Shia is the only true follower of the prophet and true Sunnah which is narrated without lie through his "itrah" i.e. imamat. Shia is mentioned many times by the blessed prophet himself.

B. There were and still are open invitation to the sunni great scholars for debate from Shia scholars, but Sunni schollars ignore it.

Maryam Mohd You cannot use Sunni hadith to try and tell a Shia that Imam Ali had sons called Umar. If Sunni Islam follows Sahaba that changed and no longer remained truthful then obviously these hadiths will become problematic. You don’t say “Islam is the right religion because the Quran says it” no first you have to prove that the Quran is right to prove what it says is right. If Shias are right about Ahlulbayt then of course this will change a lot of things.

Quran says: "So ask the Ahl al Dhikr (People of Remembrance) if you do not know." Quran 16:43 and 21:7
This verse is clear that a group of people, referred to as the People of Remembrance, exist who know the correct answers to questions.
It is evident the Quran is referred to as 'al-Dhikr' in a number of verses in Quran 3:58, 21:50, 36:69, 41:41, including the verse: "We have revealed al Dhikr (i.e., Quran) and We surely protect it." Quran 15:9. Therefore the Ahl al Dhikr are the people of the Quran. The Ahl al-Quran are the Ahl al Bayt of the Prophet, who are inseparable from Quran until the Day of Judgment according to the undisputed tradition of thaqalayan (referenced below). Second, and even more explicitly, the Prophet is referred to in the Quran as Dhikr, where the Quran says, "Allah has sent to you a Dhikr - a Prophet who recites for you the verse of Allah." Quran 65:10-11. Therefore the Ahl al Dhikr are the Ahl al Nabi, which is clearly the Ahlul Bayt, Quran 33:33.
Tafsir Qurtubi and Tafsir Thalabi verse 21:7 relates: When the verse, Ask the Ahl al Dhikr was revealed, Ali said, "We are the Ahl al Dhikr." Tafsir Tabari and Tafsir Ibn Kathir, verse 16:43 relates that Abu Jafar al Baqir, the fifth Shia Imam, said, "We are the Ahl al Dhikr.
The tradition of the two weighty items or thaqalayn is universally accepted by both Sunnis and Shia. It is famous and mutawatir. The tradition is transmitted through numerous companions through a large number of distinct chains of transmission, making it truly mutawatir.
