I laugh when Americans talk about the “American Dream”, good for you though. Us brits don’t have a “Great British dream”, why? Because we’re already awake.
The American Dream died many years ago and it is a millstone round the neck of the people. The lady at 2.30 talking about the Brits suffering from depression! I personally found her to be one seriously depressing individual. I’m intrigued as to how she arrived at this diagnosis.
ali f Trust me I am a UK citizen. The MAJORITY of the UK was depressed but that all changed at 22-00hrs on the 12/12/2019 when the election exit poll predicted a Tory landslide. Since that monumental moment the vast MAJORITY of UK citizens have been rejoicing. Brexit is happening, it’s called democracy, get over it.
my favourite thing about the UK is our history, we have such a long and exciting history, and as a budding historian, that is something that fills me with the most pride. not necessarily how we have acted in the past (especially towards foreign populations), but more how every place in this country is steeped in history.
Despite some of the negativity in these comments, I have to say that I really like the UK, and I like learning about its geography, culture and history. I don't think I am the only American that would say that, either. We may not know everything there is to know about the UK and its constituent cultures, but what we do know, we generally like and respect.
That's so cool! I'm glad you are interested, there are a lot of stereotypes n stuff. It's nice to hear a positive comment about us. I like learning about US history as well honestly.
Yeah it’s so annoying, like go to the countryside or something. Go to Scotland, climb a Welsh mountain. The beaches are lovely all throughout the UK. Visit a small English village
I’m British and I’ll be honest, I never see people from the US and Australia and those sorts of sunny places moving here, but I see why. I kinda want to live in one of those places so I can have some consistent sun so it’s not cloudy half the time.
Best weather in the world! 2023 summer not been a great one for sun lovers but the previous few have been really hot and sunny. But as a rule we have seasons that are distinct but not too extreme, which is ideal. As far as people go, every country has their good and bad and you can’t ever make judgments about an entire nationality. I will say this tho, if you want to move to the U.K. and are prepared to fit in, contribute to society and be a giver rather than a taker then you’ll do just fine and be welcomed

Europeans are getting trigged like there’s not thousands of videos like this, where people ask what Europeans or people from other countries think of Americans. I absolutely think this is fair.
It's quite incredible how insular lots of America is (obviously not all). They understand other countries via stereotypes mostly. It's so different from when you're actually from Europe being more outward looking.
I think it's quite incredible how America looks at other countries in positive a positive manor while every other country view America negatively. The love doesn't go both ways. :/
Since retiring I keep myself busy by volunteering as a Tour Guide both with the National Trust and English Heritage. Then starting last November with walking tours around the city of York. We all love guiding Americans. You just never know what what they are going to ask next. Around 25% are well educated and knowledgeable. It’s the rest that we find entertaining. There must be something missing in the American Education System. Visitors from South America such as Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, seem to have a much better grasp of basic history.
I think history is all we really know about England (and the UK in general), albeit, not very much. In school, I learned world history in 10th grade. One class, that's it, and England's history is only one puzzle piece in a grand puzzle. The only other place we learn of England's existence is in US history (8th grade for me), with our revolution and independence from the "Red Coats". We don't hear much about it in contemporary times from school, unless the media portrays scenes, such as related to Princess Diana, or what's happening in the Monarchy. The monarchy is fascinating to us because it's a foreign concept, so we love to "learn" what's going on there. We don't know much unless we research on our own. Have series made with the day to day life of people in different parts of the world, and put in on Netflix. Some of us will watch it. Unfortunately, most won't care to, as we've been entrained that the world's problems don't concern us. Not true, I know.
@@danielleg3120 Thank you for your excellent comment. I’ve spent lockdown writing a little local history book entitled ‘Rotherham and the creation of the USA. Rotherham is my home town and began campaigning for American Liberty even before the Revolutionary War started. Please google ‘Victory Arch Parlington Hall Yorkshire’ Wikipedia will explain that the arch was built in 1783 to celebrate American Independence! The Patriot movement actually started in the British Parliament as a branch of the Whig Party. These Whigs wanted radical political reform at home but were opposed by the ruling Tory Party. This conflict between Patriot and Tory spread to the colonies. In America Whigs were in the majority, whilst in Britain Whigs were a minority. But this was changing and British Radical Whigs were gaining ground. In 1781 the Tory government fell apart and Rotherham’s Whig Marquess Rockingham was asked to become Prime Minister. He agreed on two conditions - Economic reform at home and that he be allowed to set America free. This was just after Yorktown, the Tories were simply planning to send more troops. Rockingham stopped the fighting against the colonies, but continued the war against France, Spain and Holland. Tourists are often surprised to see a statue of George Washington in London. I bet for most American’s the political side of the story is something new. But it was American university academic books that I used for research. One of the best books - ‘English Radicals and the American Revolution’ by Colin Bonwick published by the University of North Carolina Press. So for me American Education is not just on two levels, but pushes two very different stories.
I watched both vise versa videos and seems like the Americans are kinder and less judgmental which surprised me. As a american I think other countries only hear the bad from the media whom are good for making all seem negative. Americans are great people and have been to UK and I also think they are too!!

It’s geared up for tourists that think that it is representative of all of the U.K. London is an awful place and generally only people from there actually like it there. It’s ok for a short visit but my advice to anyone visiting the U.K. is to get out and see the rest of it. Yeah visit Buckingham palace and watch changing of the guard but then go North to the Lake District, go West towards Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Visit village pubs that are off the beaten track. Get away from the typical tourist places. Visit the castles all over the place. Visit Northern Ireland but if your American don’t pretend you are Irish, we may just laugh at you. There is so much more to the U.K. than London. We have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world if you go up to the north and further up to Scotland.
this reminds me of LA here in the US. people love thinking it’s some glamorous place of the rich and famous. but in reality, there’s not celebrities on every corner or even that much of a high end city. it’s run down , and has a huge population of homeless on skid row. drugs and gangs are dominant and the streets aren’t even kept clean. but LA is thought to be what california and the US is about when realistically there’s so much more to see and visit out here.

Rotherham is my home town and began campaigning for
American Liberty even before the Revolutionary War started.

London is expensive because it’s not geared up for Londoners.

I mean, that’s not really exclusive to just our country. Depression is a global problem, not a British trait.
Where has all these depressed people in HMU country come from?
Because I am happy as Larry and am doing GCSEs
looool we aren't anymore
1:31 this man knows facts and well done to him.
Bryce Nicholls ye he was so positive and I appreciate him
Im from Scotland but when I think of the US, there sports come to mind like baseball, american football, basketball, ice hockey ect.
"Lots of political chaos"
Also America: "Tangerine in office" "Trump 2020🇺🇲" "Biden 2020🇺🇲" 😡😤
😭😭
I don't think the second guy actually knows what brexit is
As an American that thinks of the UK I absolutely love the country I don’t just think of England I love there history so much and how they say words the correct way unlike us. The queens legit a iconic queen I support them and try not to fuck up a cov with one of my British friends and use the right words so they can understand me❤️👑
Wait, I thought the UK was more than one country?
I hope these folks are not typical travelers from the US. My wife and I have made several trips to the UK driving from London, through Wales and England and up to Scotland. Even made a short stay in Ireland. We visited a lot of pubs and can honestly say that we never met a stranger. The hospitality and friendliness of the citizens of the UK IS UNMATCHED around the world.
I’m not going to get depressed by the weather but okay 😂😂
You get no sunlight lol
Limp Dick McHenry Yes we do? Cold/rainy weather is such a big stereotype here but in fact come in summer, I doubt you’ll be able to handle our heat waves 😂
@@skandarkeynes_skandarians your summer is a texas winter to dumb it down for an inbred Englishman . Parts of Arizona/new mexico/ cali is basically Afghanistan heat. A southern American heat wave would kill all of England...then maybe we'd take that from you too.
@@skandarkeynes_skandarians UK doesn't get heatwaves. All whilst you are wearing a scarf and jacket in your pfp, you don't know what hot is. Go to the suburb and every American has a swimming pool in their backyard lol
@@limpdickmchenry5261 yeah but your houses are designed for that weather houses in uk are designed to keep in heat so when we get heatwaves like the last few summers there is no where to cool down and we do get sunlight just today i had to close my curtains because the sun was shining in my eyes
The younger generation are ignorant but the older US generation like us a lot
In general I'd say the older generation of Americans are much more knowledgable about the UK.
Until you discover that Trump had to be told by his military top brass that Britain had its own nuclear missile submarines !!!
I have been a long-time anglophile for most of my 55 years, but I have to confess that repeated experience in comment sections on UA-cam has really turned me off. It seems like the majority of reactions from Brits to Americans is nasty, condescending and filled with anti-American stereotypes. I am seeing this far, far too often for it to be random or sample error. It's pretty pervasive. So, frankly, I will really think twice about ever going to the UK again.
@@johnalden5821 You'll always get these "clever" comments from such internet smart guys. Best ignored.
1:28 I didn’t realise foreigners came outside of London, and yes after living here for 5 years Northamptonshire is beautiful (somewhat) lol
I live in Northamptonshire I found it surprising that she had been here and Northampton is a big economic area there's a lot of history tbh the UK has a lot of history lol.
Another Northamptonian 😊 lived here all my life wish they'd get the bloomin round about sorted at Rushden Lakes lol
Jon Garratt come on you cobblers
@@JG-fv9bv lol I was at rushden lakes earlier gotta love the JD
@@danbartley6041 went passed on the 23rd, traffic was stacked up passed the petrol station on the East bound side all the way to the round about absolute madness ha ha
UK must be one of the few places in the world where an American accent is quite welcomed.
“What do you think of when I say the UK”
“Errr Soccer?”
- I think you mean football luv
Right o
It's a different culture
🤦♂️
We was taught it’s soccer💀I blame it on my school🙄
@@stfubruh61 don't really see the different. If an american said soccer to a Brit we'd know what they meant. Vis versa
I'm sitting about 10 minutes from where these interviews took place. Neat. I think of tea, non violent football, london, tea, Harry potter, and the look on brits faces when I say that LOUDLY.
Non violent football is so incorrect. We are literally banned from certain international matches and tournaments because of the chaos and violence we cause 💀😭
The guy who said the uk was more friendly and hospitable clearly needs some fact checking.
What brud my MANDEM is going shank you up in my endz brud
Based on all the comments on this video, I would agree with you.
I’m so glad that she is Scottish cause most of the people who do these are English so it just nice to hear another accent from the Uk
