    I used to haul grain to that Independent elevator years ago. There where 2 C&NW grain hoppers parked on the siding which are now long gone. I liked traveling along 212 and looking at the Twin Cities & Western line.

    It's cool to still see those GP30Cs out there.

      I can almost smell the burned up turbo from here :)

      It sure is, and I wish they had PTC so they could lead into the Twin Cities. They sound so throaty when they're working!

    Good stuff, I've watched several vids on this cold WV morning! New sub from the "Mountain State".

    Nice, 2010's got a Transtronic E-Bell, 2011's got a Ekyrail E-Bell (the successor). Now there's two you don't hear everyday, though I hear the Ekyrail's are slowly spreading!

      Thanks for the info on the E-Bells; I didn't know that there many variants to them.

    Great video of the Glencoe Turn. Do you possibly know who the new customer will be?

      Not that I know of...yet! I'm sure we'll find out in the near future though.

    You should go down to Twr E14 now. We got a lot of the track put down this week.

      Will do! I saw some pictures on FB yesterday, and it really seems to be coming along over there. Great to see more business coming to the TCWR.

    I always wonder how you are you able to know when a cool operation is happening? Are there groups for this?

    • @SD457500
      @SD457500  Рік тому

      It boils down to knowing the right people, and staying up to date on various groups online. Fans of the Twin Cities and Western, and Minnesota Railroads are good places to start on FB.

    That is flashbutt welding, not thermite welding.

    • @SD457500
      @SD457500  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for the clarification on this, and correction! Can you shed some light on how that is different from thermite welds?

    • @jmd18
      @jmd18 Рік тому +2

      @@SD457500 a thermite uses molds and molten steel like a casting. Flash butt welding is used with electricity that heats up the ends of the rail to being red hot. Then it squeezes them together. If you look at each side of the weld you can see the web of the rail is ground with a grinder. That is where the machine grabs the rail and electricity flows between the 2 rails.

      I appreciate the explanation on this! It would be a neat operation and process to see happen sometime. Thank you again for the clarification.
