whoever had the vision for production of the first song deserves an applaud. I could never imagine how to use yasna voices in this kind of music. the drummer looks insanely talented. alors on danse is supposed to make me dance, but it is also making me cry.
WOW, not only does he sound live exactly like in the recordings, he seems like a sweet and modest guy. also, thanks to closed captions in English, now I know what the lyrics mean and they are surprisingly deep in contrast with the upbeat music.
The juxtaposition of the ‘upbeat’ dance music, unexpectedly honest+deep lyrics & that beautiful voice, it reaches inside you, it doesn’t just touch you, but you feel it reverberating in your soul.
Although honestly, he has a lot of play on words that you'd only understand if you understood French, particularly in Santé. But yes, the subtitles do a great job in their limited capacity. :)
His voice is so rich, crispy and clear, with a pleasing weight but not heavy. I don't even speak French, but his pronunciation is so exact I felt like I could almost understand. His voice sounds theater-trained; strong, steady and full. I'm now about to go binge his music.
Man this guy is a natural performer, the way he changes the way he sings/raps the songs along with the dancing and interacting with band members and audience. Would love to see him live one day
Stromae is such a unique artist. His presentation, his fashion, his lyrics are incredibly interesting and poetic. I love that Tiny Desk Concert is doing these more international shows too. Love this!

Thought provoking lyrics. 4. Stage creativity. 5. Video clip creativity 6. Costume creativity.

Happy for his comeback but also happy to see him with exact same band he has been working with since the beginning of his career, a beautiful human and artist who writes music like no other. We love you!
I'm so proud - being Bulgarian, to see this powerful women group "Yasna Voices" to present our culture of unique Balkan voices in this magnificent performance by Stromae. 🔥👏
He plays that audience so well. Has them dancing and celebrating the misery he's singing about and they have no idea. Exactly what he has designed his music to do, and we see it perfectly executed. I love it.
Here in London hardly anyone I know, of any age has even heard of him. And its a very multicultural community. Nevertheless, the Wembley concert has sold out months in advance.
This is more then music, it is poetry, it is drama, it is comedy, it is probably the best way to sing about life….His music describes purely the human existence and the human struggle for love, family, happiness. This is the way I feel it. Of course if you understand French, it’s perfect 👌.
I'm a Dutch speaking Belgian from Antwerp and this is the one guy who made me conscously study French. He's a genius, and I missed out on his lyrics for years.
I LOVE Stromae! He's a beast! He's a MAJOR thing in the french countries. His personnality, music and fashion style are immaculate. I'm so proud to see him shine outside of France, Blegium, etc.!
I don't think I've ever watched any Stromae live performance before, I'm impressed. So exciting and unique! The rhythm with the claps in the acappella song really reminds me brazilian funk music, really common in friends circle out here. Love it!
When i first found out about him i was 5 years too late. I promised myself if i ever had the opportunity to see him in person i would take it no matter what. Trust me, he is 💯 worth it!
You should watch the Montreal show from 2015 - it's incredible. And the old songs are even better than the new songs, in my opinion at least. More dance and house than in the new album so if you like that you should definitely watch that performance!
I love how he recognizes and takes time to credit the other musicians. That is SUPER important, and it just shows how respectful and conscious he is, and that makes his music even more soulful
Stromae is such an amazing artist. Seeing the way that he is so proud of the band and the team is so charming. Got super thrilled to see a Tiny Desk of him. Love this!
I'm glad I read the description, because now I'm even more impressed that they took the time to re-make the sounds of the original dance tracks in order to make them playable as live instruments. Just to stay true to the spirit of these performances! Very cool. I have a lot of respect for that.
Stromae is a rare combination of talent, charisma and dedication. His voice, lyrics and music are extraordinary. What really impresses me is the messages he embeds into his songs. A true Maestro!
@nprmusic - This is exactly why Tiny Desk Concerts are my favorite way to get music. I love the artists picked, but the structure and rules of the desk along with amazing audio engineering make Artists shine in a different light than they get at any other venue. I have listened to THOUSANDS of hours of Tiny Desk on YT and will continue to do so hopefully long into the future. Thank you Bob for creating and nurturing such an amazing show.
What charm, what care for his wonderful crew, what meaningful lyrics and themes, what IMMENSE TALENT this man has. Thank you, NPR for bringing us this jewel of a Tiny Desk concert!
He doesn't take success for granted, he's a true artist, and never ceases to amaze me (alongside his musicians of course). This acapella version of 'Mon amour' is so beautiful
1:24 this harmony gave me chills, the timing feels really free and flowing but since they're so in sync, it HAS to have been very meticulously composed and rehearsed, incredible
Thank you for the introduction to this unique artist. As a man struggling with dark thoughts and not having encountered Stromae before, I was taken aback by the raw honesty and delivery of topics which if popular media is to be believed, are being addressed more openly and with less judgment. I have not been lucky enough to find such an open avenue here in the USA. It’s interesting that this music seems to resonate with so many
Hang on man, life is a river, sometimes there is rapids and falls but it always end up in peace and harmony! Be strong brother, it is worth the fight to get to the sunny days

Last year soon after his latest album was released I took a French class where I began to learn common spoken French. I hadn't heard of Stromae at the time because we don't follow popular music. The teacher used the lyrics of Santé to teach common spoken French and slang. My husband is French. When we watched the official video he literally cried. He smiled when this video was suggested in UA-cam. I've shared it on social media. We normally don't follow popular music but we both adore Stromae.
they don’t hit the same when they are translated. gotta know familiar french to fully get what he means. there’s no way to properly translate it while keeping the lyrical structure intact.
i love how much of a performer he is. he interacts with the audience in such a cool and natural way making them part of the performance. i'd love to go to one of his concerts ☺
Stromae manages to captivate with his live performances no matter the scope of the stage he’s on. This tiny desk has the whole energy of his big stage concert which are lessons on perfection
The first song is amazing. I can remember when I was watching his interview on tv and suddenly he started to sing this song about depression… he made me cry. I never felt something like this before . Best French artist ever ❤❤❤
This is the video that introduced me to Stromae, and it’s like an entire world of music and artistry was opened to me. Absolutely wonderful. Thank you for tiny desk, and talented artists willing to take the chance.
YES! Discovering Stromae helped me get through the pandemic. I've watched his 2 hr concert from 2016 like dozens of times. I don't understand any of his lyrics, but I love his vibe.
Same. I've listened to Stromae for years and don't know the language...but I still sing it. It makes me want to learn. Love all of his videos! Turned me on to lots of other French and European artists!

whoever had the vision for production of the first song deserves an applaud. I could never imagine how to use yasna voices in this kind of music.
the drummer looks insanely talented.
alors on danse is supposed to make me dance, but it is also making me cry.
This is a prime example of why I love Stromae. The range yet continuity here is sublime.
WOW, not only does he sound live exactly like in the recordings, he seems like a sweet and modest guy. also, thanks to closed captions in English, now I know what the lyrics mean and they are surprisingly deep in contrast with the upbeat music.
I was glad for the subtitles too!
Your comment made me go back and listen to it all again with subtitles on, and 🤯 - thank you for pointing it out!!
yeah i just realized n understood the real meaning too. kudos!
The juxtaposition of the ‘upbeat’ dance music, unexpectedly honest+deep lyrics & that beautiful voice, it reaches inside you, it doesn’t just touch you, but you feel it reverberating in your soul.
Love to see his big smile. He's such an example for those of us who struggle/ have struggled with depression.

@@angiisera Thank you !!!!! 🥰
What a fantastic showman. He can't help but get the crowd involved.
The English lyric translations in the closed captions made this performance a 15/10, thank you Tiny Desk/NPR ❤
4:30 He said "for those who can't celebrate"
Although honestly, he has a lot of play on words that you'd only understand if you understood French, particularly in Santé. But yes, the subtitles do a great job in their limited capacity. :)
This should be higher up for all the non-French speakers who still want to get the gist of what his lyrics are about. Thanks for your hint! 🙏
This really helped me understand the depth of this artist - thank you. And yes - this comment should be pinned!
Thank you for this comment ❤
Love this!
Wow! I hope NPR audience appreciates the blessing it is to have Stromae. Probably one of the greatest artist of the 21st century. 1. Melody. 2. Sounds to match exact mood of the song 3. Thought provoking lyrics. 4. Stage creativity. 5. Video clip creativity 6. Costume creativity.
Merci Stromae de continuer de créer et de nous sortir de nos limites qu’on se met en grandissant inconsciemment.
"Probably one of the greatest artist of the 21st century." Serious? The 21st century is doomed.

I've loosely followed Stromae for over a decade, ever since I was a teen, really. Watching him at the Tiny Desk gives me goosebumps. He deserves the World. I'm so happy he's finally being recognized on a much more mainstream, international level 🙌🏼
He is the total package. I could watch this all day
L'un des meilleurs artistes francophones contemporains. Merci à Tiny Desk pour ce super cadeau de Noël. Je souhaite à tous ceux qui le connaissaient pas de le découvrir. Merci à toi Stromae.

I discovered Stromae for the first time because of this. I’m now a massive fan.
Found him today, and I’m really excited….
This is Great Music❤

Happy for his comeback but also happy to see him with exact same band he has been working with since the beginning of his career, a beautiful human and artist who writes music like no other. We love you!
"Do you want to dance?!" Is a masterful call to action, the whole band and crew is already dancing and vibing..beautiful
Man, that acapella session gave me chills! That was purely awesome!!!

I'm so proud - being Bulgarian, to see this powerful women group "Yasna Voices" to present our culture of unique Balkan voices in this magnificent performance by Stromae. 🔥👏
❤️
Beautiful vocalizations
Another Bulgarian here! Thanks for this comment and making it known!
Bog te blagoslovi ☦️
I really felt those beautiful voices, amazing.
He plays that audience so well. Has them dancing and celebrating the misery he's singing about and they have no idea. Exactly what he has designed his music to do, and we see it perfectly executed. I love it.
Stromae is probably one of the artists who deserves the most all the recognition he gets. He is pure talent and mastering
“Than”, NOT “then”.
You’re welcome.
Donde está Stromae??
Him switching from almost saying the names in english but then saying them correctly as per the french uitspraak is was so awesome and respectful
This was the best Tiny Concert I've seen do far! LOVE Stromae!!!
I am unsure why I had never realised what an AMAZING artist this guy is! And everyone else playing and singing with him, this Tiny Desk is perfect.
Am kenyan,i dnt understand french but i loved his music ever since i heard it mny yrs ago n still listen to him
Alors on Danse was “too” popular. I assumed he was electronic cheese. In fact, his lyrics and music are simply breathtaking!!
I'm a Dutch speaking Belgian from Antwerp and this is the one guy who made me conscously study French. He's a genius, and I missed out on his lyrics for years.

Blegium for life ❤️! Bruppels is great as well
I always thought Stromae's music was quite heavily edited, it's wild to see him and the band recreate it perfectly live

The rhythm with the claps in the acappella song really reminds me brazilian funk music, really common in friends circle out here. Love it!
Vdd ritmo de funk
When i first found out about him i was 5 years too late. I promised myself if i ever had the opportunity to see him in person i would take it no matter what. Trust me, he is 💯 worth it!
The last show from his Racine Carrée tour in Montréal is available on his YT channel, it's absolutely worth a watch/listen.
You should watch the Montreal show from 2015 - it's incredible. And the old songs are even better than the new songs, in my opinion at least. More dance and house than in the new album so if you like that you should definitely watch that performance!
this album definitely had a lot of south american influences
This guy transforms everything and everyone in art. Hes amazing, so original, so talented. Tnks for so much stromae.
I love how he recognizes and takes time to credit the other musicians. That is SUPER important, and it just shows how respectful and conscious he is, and that makes his music even more soulful
Stromae a toujours l'air si humain, si modeste et si passionné . Merci d'exister et de partager tant de talent.
Stromae is such an amazing artist. Seeing the way that he is so proud of the band and the team is so charming. Got super thrilled to see a Tiny Desk of him. Love this!
Soooo true, I got really excited too , even though I just found this unique artist a couple of months ago ! 😍
thank you guys, thank you Stromae and thanks to every one who made this show possible !
How not to fall in love with him??? What a voice, smile, charisma!!!
🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩 I can't say more
He doesn't take success for granted, he's a true artist, and never ceases to amaze me (alongside his musicians of course). This acapella version of 'Mon amour' is so beautiful
One of the best tiny desk videos and best "artist's speech", Stromae is such an intelligent and nice person
Maestro in every sense. This man and the whole group have soul and music in their veines. Amazing!
It’s interesting that this music seems to resonate with so many
Dadi Freyr is another really good one, although ofc such unique voices will never overlap overly much.

Thanks!😁👍
Same. Same. I loved “L’enfer” when I first heard it, but hearing it again, but this time with the lyrics makes it even more impactful!
I do agree totally, but i have to say that the instruments in those musics are incredible
they don’t hit the same when they are translated. gotta know familiar french to fully get what he means. there’s no way to properly translate it while keeping the lyrical structure intact.
I love that stomae often finishes his performances with an acapella piece
I just realized that Stromae, means MAESTRO 😂😂😂😂
French slang often switches the beginning and end of a word to create the slang version.
