    🍅Citric acid information:
    When citric acid and sodium hydroxide lye (NaOH) are combined, sodium citrate is created. Sodium citrate works as a chelator in soap.
    A chelator traps metal ions such as calcium and magnesium that can be found in tap water.
    These metal contaminants can cause rancidity and soap scum in handmade soap.
    A chelator binds to these metals so that they can’t bind to the soap molecules. This way the soap won’t react with them and the soap's lather improves + shelf life increases.
    Citric acid does not lower the pH of soap. Instead it consumes some of the lye and increases the superfat. Add 6 g extra lye for every 10 g of citric acid added to a soap recipe if you want to keep the superfat % at the same level.
    How much citric acid should be added to soap?
    Usage rate in bar soap is 1-2% of the oil weight.
    How to use citric acid
    Add citric acid to the distilled water and dissolve completely before adding the lye, or make a separate solution of citric acid and distilled water and add to the oils.

    Wonderful soap!!. I also made one in May of last year, but the process was a little different. I live in Extremadura, in southern Spain, where tomato cultivation is very abundant. The properties of this soap are excellent, I added thyme essential oil. Congratulations for this magnificent elaboration and thank you very much, als allways, for being able to enjoy your video.

    My first thought at what essential oil to add was, "Oregano oil!" ...though that's probably because I put oregano in almost eveything savoury I cook, esepcailly if it involves tomatoes, and also the only essential oils I have on hand at the mement are lavender and oregano!

      @bunhelsingslegacy3549 Hi! Oregano essential oil speeds up trace like crazy so be careful if you ever want to make soap with it. I suggest basil instead, it smells so nice in soap and is much easier to work with. 🍃🍅

    HOW did you get tomato oil ??? Would using half sodium hydroxide and half potassium hydroxide do anything special to the soap mix ??? ONE more thing, can glycerine soap that is aged be reheated and more ingredients add to the soap mix ??? Nice video.

    • @tellervo.
      @tellervo.  7 місяців тому +1

      I showed you in the video😊 To make bar soap you need to use sodium hydroxide. Using both creates a soft bar. If you mean melt and pour soaps, yes they can be remelted. Thanks!

    So when it come to the soaps that you make is there a of tripling your soap recipe batch without causing your soap to crystallize from the citric acid?

    • @renujha2431
      @renujha2431 8 місяців тому +6

      Whatever batch size or recipe you may be using, citric acid is to be added at a rate of 1 to 2% of the total weight of your oils. And then, for every gram of citric acid that you use, you have would have to increase the sodium hydroxide amount by 0.6 times of that.
      Example: You use a total of 1000 gms of oils. Then citric acid will be 20 gms (at 2%).
      Whatever your sodium hydroxide amount is, as per the recipie, you would add 12 gms more to that.
      Hope this helps.

      Most soaps don't leave color behind, w/ the exception of activated charcoal. If too much is added to soap, the suds will contain the fine powder and will be deposited in the wash towels or the materials used to scrub. If there's soap scum, that'll be gray as well... 🫤

    Hello ! First of all, thanks for sharing your soaps !
    I’ve heard that persimmon soaps are great, I would love to see you experimenting doing one of this ‘
    t removes oxidized sebum, dirt. In Japan persimmon soap is often used as a solution to the dreaded old person smell (known in Japanese as kareishū 加齢臭) where it is of particular concern due to the high value placed on personal hygiene.
    Thank you !

    With soap base it is necessary to add citric acid and sodium hydroxide???
    Or only soap base is enough to make soap???

  • @orphicprince

    I apologize for my ignorance in advance. But is there any other alternative ingredient that I can use instead of the chemicals you used such as lye and sodium hydroxide?
