  • Julie Heldman is a women’s tennis pioneer who won 22 pro titles and earned a top-five world ranking before retiring in 1975 to become a television analyst and later an attorney. But an isolated childhood with an abusive mother led to breakdowns and a suicide attempt. She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 50, and published a widely admired memoir, Driven (A Daughter’s Odyssey), in 2018.
#MyYoungerSelf by Child Mind Institute is an anti-stigma campaign. We are grateful to Julie for her willingness to open up about her childhood experience with trauma.
