I discovered this album about a week ago and it is hands down my favorite album I have listened to in the past few years. I love the drum parts, and watching this video, and the album have given me lots to think about relating to my own drumming. Thank you. Please put out another album soon, your music has changed my life!
A beautifully produced look inside the tracking of the drums on an amazing album....seeing how some of the drum textures and cymbal sounds were recorded makes me listen to the album with new ears.Thank you Jasper and crew for putting this together....
Listening to the album again, I'm struck by how committed Jasper (and everyone else) truly is to every note, and how secure the others seem in terms of that each person's idea will fit with Jasper's groundwork :) Just amazing ^_^
Very cool. Thanks for this inside view on things. I really enjoy watching all kinds of making of's from bands which I like. So feel free to upload more :)
so smooth and pleasent sounds yet full of details that are far from simple music, thats why this album is delightful. you guys made a really good piece of art. cheers!
Watching this makes me wonder what the hell was playing through Jasper's head when he was playing the instrumental second half of Turquoise (that's my favourite song, by the way. Beautiful in every way :'3 Sung so affectionately)
Thank you! Nothing. (At least that's what I aim for.) :) When I play music, I try to listen to the music and my connection / role with(in) it. If I start thinking too much, I'm not being me, and I'm not being IN the music. At that point, I'm too busy thinking about "me" and what I'm going to do in the music. If this sounds familiar / interesting to you too, you could read this interview with Vinnie Colaiuta for more on this subject: www.vinniecolaiuta.com/Interviews/Pas09
+Jasper Barendregt Feels. I try and do the same thing when I make a song or look for a tune. But you must've been really absorbed to come up with something so.... Intense. :3
Yeah, I guess! (It surprised me too when I heard back the result, plus we just kept things relaxed and tried a lot.) Just to make things clear; Turquoise' is a continuous one-take, except for the outro build-up (which was a 2nd one, comped in.) Anyway, just keep ""trying"" (playing) on intuition. I do the same. Once you surprise yourself and book some small successes, that can become VERY motivating. :)
I received a few demo's near the end of 2013. However, almost all tracks were re-worked in terms of composition, and all drum arrangements were flexible (in small or large manners) with a couple of songs being finalized just before I entered the studio. As indicated in the video; there was a lot of improvisation and freedom when preparing and recording the drums, with 'Turquoise' being the most typical example, since it was almost completely improvised.
To think that this much work went into the whole album. That.......that takes a whole new level of patience.

cool, will there be a guitar making of or is there one?
How long did you have the songs for before recording them?

Jasper's diction sounds like a guy trying to sell a product in a commercial. :)
But no offense guys. Thanks for this insight.
