Speaking as DIY musician and a graphic designer with some industry background, your video is spot on. And on the issue of CMYK against RGB, there are a lot of things to take into consideration when designing o Photoshop (e.g., most of the Ps layer effects work hugely different when in CMYK and when in RGB). One good way to avoid any issue is thinking beforehand the medium in which the artwork will be presented (if only on digital platforms, or if printed in several formats). If the artwork will surely be printed, it is a good idea to start the project in the CMYK setting instead of RGB. That way, "what you see is what you get", mostly. Thanks for doing this video.
This is cool,I've been a music industry graphic designer for over 30 years and I understand we have so much knowledge to share. More of this type of thing. Hats off.
Many duplication / manufacturing companies aren’t requiring the RGB to CMYK conversion anymore as they are doing it “ in house “ . Also , a real good way to get an example of how your artwork will look in the real world is to bring a file to Fed Ex / Kinko’s and they can do a print out and they have the capability to do an “ in house “ conversion. You will get a very good idea of what to expect from your artwork
I mean you’re right but like how hard is it to just make your own art even if you can’t draw like you can’t just make something cool in PicsArt? Like just be a little more creative making the album art is one of the best parts.
Heya, so I might be a little late to the party on this video, but I was wondering what the general consensus is on illustrations vs. graphic design for album covers? So for example a full on high fantasy illustration drawn from scratch for your album vs. a picture or two of the band edited together with some fancy effects? Is there generally a preference for one or the other? I was wondering if there is a demand for full from scratch illustrations or if most bands would rather just have foto edits, etc.
Probably a weird question to ask, but lets say i have a 3 word artist name.. can my album cover have my artist names in acronyms? Example, the artist name is "The Best Music", can the cover art be "TBM"? Also a second question.. applogies.. but i keep researching online and cant seem to find the answer to this, but if i make a single with 3 songs.. can the civer art for it have whatever name title I'd like? Or does it have to be one of the singles title name?

Happy to hear that!
Wow!! This is so helpful for me,
I'm so glad!
I feel bad for all of us diy musicians we work or butts off and pay into something that usually doesn't work back to us.
Keep at it! Keep writing and trying new things.
+ most labels failing artists and tell later artists that their fault
