This is a mythic rendering of that trio, which is certainly one of the most noteworthy of the whole history of the genre with the two by Schubert. As the op. number suggests, it is a youth work, but it was deeply reviewed and "corrected" at the end of the composer(s life, at the period of his works with clarinet.
I love this original version so much. Brahms at the beginning yet it sums up all his music despite all the wonderful adventures he takes us into the emotional intensity is here right at the beginning.

Love that they are playing the original version and not the redraft. Beauty soars so high here , Brahms at his most passionate and intimate. Masterpiece.

It is not Brahms at his beginning (revised version from 1889; the first version from 1854 sounds very different).

Actually they play the second version, not the original. But it is so much better indeed.
