Thank you so much for making this video! We don’t really have any dog sports clubs in my country (no mentors to teach me). So videos like this are so helpful bec they teach me a safe way to make a setup here at home to fulfill my dogs needs! And now that I know the things I need for a spring pole setup, getting to win a proper tug toy for the setup would make it 10x better than anything I could provide locally. But even if we don’t win, thank you again for sharing this with us. Esp the diff types of setups!

Hera is now starting to bite and it is fantastic, since she was a puppy she has never wanted to do it but now thanks to your help and that of Marco she begins to bite with pleasure. Furthermore I love DIY videos, they are the best ever and the most fun!! Great job with this one!

I had so much fun seeing you work with Hera this week and notice the change in her behaviour after just one day of training. Thanks so much for the help in making this video!

I am waiting for my future puppy, and I would love to do all these sports disciplines with her.
I learn a lot with you, since educational information about these sports is scarce.
    Thanks for your videos !!

@@sportingwithstaffords :) Well, if everything is on the right track, possibly in a month we will have it with us.
Around here in Spain you don't see this type of sports yet, or I at least with the people I've had contact with, most of them are dedicated to show competition.
But I am very motivated, haha, I am lucky to have your channel and other Instagram accounts with which I am learning little by little.
I still have some doubts, such as what would be the appropriate age to start with these sports, due to the issue of teeth and the muscular development of your body.
Thank you very much for all your content !!

another top video as always👍 as ive said before i have 4 staffords and they would be chuffed to bits to win the tug toys as tug of war has got to be there all time favourite and depending on what there tugging on it gets them either tugging as a foursome or as a pair, but just seeing the focus and dedication in there eyes is awsome as each aims to be the best😁

Love your videos!! I’ve been searching for honestly ages trying to find a good instructions video for a spring pole. Me and my pup (she’s an 8-month old staffie) LOVE playing tug together. When I say she will fly across a field to grab a tug, she will FLY! I’m determined to make a spring pole set up for her, as currently she plays tug with me but she’s just getting far too strong. We would love a chance at using Hundstaff tug toy as finding a good quality tug is seriously hard!

Great video and nice guitar 🎸in the background 👌. I think my dogs should win the toys because Daisy loves tug toys and it's sooo hard to tire her out. She's using an old T shirt with a knot in it at the moment 😀 fingers crossed 🤞

Thank you! We’ve got a couple nice guitars here, but Jordy sadly doesn’t have time to play much anymore. 🎸
Oh yes it can be so hard to tire out our dogs, too. Bitework usually does the trick for Mojo and Hunter! Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

I'm looking to create something similar for my lab / gs mix, who is currently 7 months and 65 lbs. When I do play "tug of war" with him, I have to command several times for him to let go or "drop" (even treats or another toy doesn't disengage him from tugging). Even then, he does it very reluctantly and whines before dropping. That said, how do I get improved obedience in that regard? I'm concerned that if I build this contraption and ultimately encourage his tendencies, that it would make him overly aggressive. Please let me know what you think.

Genuine question, I hope it won’t cause any offence but I’m planning on getting a staffy later this year but my one concern is potential dog to dog aggression- I was just wondering do you think doing this sort of activity might increase any chance of aggressive behaviour? Or does being active and having outlets for natural drives actually go some way to helping? I realise breeding/socialisation/training are obviously the biggest factors but just curious about increasing drive as well. Thanks

    • @sportingwithstaffords
      @sportingwithstaffords  8 місяців тому

      No offense taken!
If you’re planning on getting a dog, and dog focused aggression is a concern, I’d recommend looking at other breeds that are not predisposed to dog aggression. They were bred for two things: to catch and kill badgers and for dog on dog combat. I don’t like to put on rose colored glasses when it comes to this topic. That said, socialisation and heritage sure do play a role, and there are kennels who breed less feisty specimens. But should that be the goal? I believe if your intent is to visit dog parks, that choosing a different breed is your best bet. Many dog breeds come with same-sex aggression though, so it’s always key to find a breeder who brings what you want to the table.
That said, I do know plenty staffords who get along with known and strange dogs. They usually aren’t reactive either, they just don’t avoid conflict when offered.
And yes, these sports offer an outlet. That’s exactly why I offer them, it’s because that desire is in there, and I use it to my advantage. They are incredibly versatile sport dogs, and sports don’t do anything but offer a way to rid of that frustration. And when managed well, they CAN live in a multi pet household. Even sportsbred staffords CAN do it. It’s just never guaranteed.
I hope this answers your question, but do reach out through instagram to pick my brain.

My girl Shiva loves bitwork. she is in love with her bite tug. We now have tugtoys from bambam. But I'd love to try the huntstaff one! Maybe these are better for her. She is a bit older for a sport dog. And that is also noticeable with bite work. Bambam biting tugs get rougher when they have been used a lot. Are these softer? Would like to know.
I am going to think about my springpole / hichjump set, this looks a lot easier to transport

nice video. I have thought about building one for a while, cause my dog has never seen a springpole before but he doesn't really want bite toys. He really likes to chew and destroy things you give him. So I think someone else would be more suitable for the giveaway.

My dog Lola absolutely LOVES to bite and play tug of war with me. She is getting better at hanging on to the toy while I lift her up since I have no place to build/create a springpole in my yard and outside of the yard she doesn't like to play it as much. Lifting her up can be quite painful on my hands because a lot of handles are made of rough fabric (I even have calluses on my fingers from it 😅), but the hundstaff ones come in a padded version! That's why we really want to win one 🥰

Always great to see Mojo at work!😍 Both my Staffords absolutely love bite work! They give it all and won’t give up, never ever ever! We have a springpole at home and enjoy hangtime a lot! Unfortunately we can’t do it at home, because we scream of joy and our neighbours don’t like it that much 😅
