Talented kids, guitarist (Hal-Can) was 16 (there are still some videos of her when she was 12 and a prodigy), bassist was 17 and drummer was 19 (the two are brothers). They're now grown up a bit, Hal--Can is now 21 and is now singing (before they were only instrumentals). There recently signed with SONY (so watch out for blocks). Very excellent and existing musicians, the next future of metal. Japan strikes again.
Her name is spelled Hal-Ca . But is pronounced Haruka . In Japan the letter L is Pronounced RU. She started playing at age 10 and wrote this song at age 12.They recorded it on their first album at age 15 and shot this vid when she was 16.
Hal-Ca got her first guitar when she was 10, and composed Rising Moon only 2 years later at 12. She is purely and simply born to play! As impressive as it is, Rising Moon is still a very straightforward composition compared to Dawn or Museum of Death. Those take the listener on a bonafide journey! Thanks again for discovering this mind-shattering 3 piece!💪🏻🤘🏻 Here’s the link to Dawn! ua-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/v-deo.htmlsi=_BASBirHJPAWmd-L
The basic purpose of the 7 string bass is that Miyu (the bassist) can essentially play rhythm guitar when needed on the top 4 strings (top here is in pitch, they are the bottom 4 physically). Any guitarists will recognize the partial Barré chords. Nice reaction. Watch live material: The breadth of the band sound they can generate with a trio is truly amazing. Listen to 'Church' like everyone is saying, you will be impressed. Also, they just (I mean just) released a new EP called Planet of Metal and it is crazy. Super proggy, experimental, fun, and just fantastic in the real sense of that word. Check that out too.
Pretty sure you could power a medium size city with the energy created from this track. Asterism is another of my "Bucket List Bands". Just phenomenal musicians! Thanks NittPic!🕊
There are lots of good suggestions for other, more complex Asterism songs already posted - and for a fun, lighter song, I also recommend their MV for "Stardom", which features Hal-Ca's vocals, and impersonations of some musicians you may recognise! For sheer stage presence, check out their live cover of "In the Mirror" by Loudness - it's a fan-cam, so the sound isn't perfect, but it's shot from the front row of the gig and the playing is on fire - plus the jostling for stage position as they solo!
With seven string bass you typically have two strings below the normal low E and one higher than the upper G. There's many options for tuning them, but one of the more regular ways of tuning one would be F#BEADGC, so you'll have nearly an extra octave below and a fourth above the range of a four string bass. Extending the range like this also gives you options for guitar-like arpeggio techniques and more chordal stuff, without having to jump around the neck as much and/or smaller stretches involved, though you do need amplification that can handle the extra low end without flubbing out or breaking.
Thank You NittPicc, very nice reaction/review. Oh, and BTW, the guitarist HAL-CA just turn 21 years of age last November. The bassist and drummer are brothers. They have been playing together since 2014.
This is honestly one of their simpler songs. Haruka is simply a remarkable guitarist and composer. They have much more complex pieces where Haruka will simply blow your mind.
My favorite song and MV by them. I had the blessing of going to Japan for 2 weeks and saw Asterism in a show, got autographs and photo with them. Then as I was standing at the exit of the venue, my brother nodded to my right I looked over and it was Asterism. I got to talk to them for a few minutes, They are amazing people. It was unreal to see them play in real life. If you can see them you should. Great reaction.
This is their youthful exercise, an introduction to Asterism...now you can try more serious things: Church is a masterpiece Down (live) is a showcase Unravel, Light into darkness live Inferno....
This is a driving your car on a road trip song. Roll down your windows and crank up the volume, but make sure your seatbelts are buckled. These SO YOUNG and talented Japanese musicians are taking over the world! Just WOW!!!
This band is tremendous. Their album Guernica +a is a true masterpiece. Lately they are trying to add Hal-Ca's voices and try to reach a larger audience. There are no musicians out there with much more talent than them. I suggest you to listen to their song Church, it is something incredible to behold. That song probably offers a very clear image of how far a seven-string bass can go. Thank you NittPicc!
Hal-Ca is the 5 foot, Japanese female equivalent of Joe Satriani. She's got all kinds of skills! Joe would definitely be impressed. Thanks for the reaction! 🤘
Hello Princess NittPicc! I hope you are having a wonderful day! I'm really happy you decided to try Asterism. They are some extremely talented people that were all child prodigies that discovered their love for music early, fortunately for us. Hal-Ca (guitarist) is just so full of energy that I suspect she is hiding a miniature nuclear reactor somewhere, and she really does make an excellent front woman for the band. I'd swear their bassist uses every square millimeter of the fret board on his giant 7-string bass at times. Please take care and have an awesome week.
@@PANIC_aka_PinD Only if you will do the same! My house is on a lakeshore, so it should be a very loud and noisy weekend filled with idiots out in force on the lake. On the more positive side, I should be able to walk across the lake without getting my feet wet just by stepping on boats and jet skis. Have you heard anything new from DIH lately? I've been seeing Sena, On_B and Esther posting cover videos about every week, but that's about it.
Thanks for making my Friday morning! Now I can face the last work day of the week with some anti-stress armor thanks to you NittPicc! To have tasteful writing chops like this at such a young age is breathtaking. It was so much fun to see you enjoying it. Keep 'em coming!
love halca and her boys. they are so talented. I noticed, you haven´t reacted to "otoboke beaver" yet. the wildest, most punkish and energetic japanese all female band, I´ve come across yet. their " don´t light my fire" is so amazing. and has over two million clicks by the way. have a great weekend. I love your reactions and breakdowns. quick edit: I believe guitarrist halca was seventen, when they recorded this one.
One of the most underrated bands. Haruka is one of the best guitarists around. Saw them live and they are incredible and very humble if you meet them. They added vocals recently by Haruka adding a whole new element.
Yes, it's the squealing guitar sound that tickles you. It is usually done by touching the string with the thumb of the pick hand as you simultaneously pluck it with the pick. ...as opposed to using the pick on its own.
From what I have heard (i'm no musicians) The 7 strings on the bass help to provide a mid-range along with the low-range sound in the song. Hal-Ca's guitar provides the high-range of their sound.
Yeah, I found it very similar in behavior (not sound) to Eugene from ginger. He sometimes follows the drums, sometimes follow the guitar , and sometime he follows none of them. And he uses his 6 string base to fill up the role of second guitar when needed.,
she can be pretty ferocious...there's a lot of great videos of them out there to check out including a cool 'studio live' series for their album Guernica+a from 2021, and some good live stuff too if you look...this song here is from their 2nd EP that came out in Jan-18 when Hal Ca on guitar and Miyu - bass were still 15, and Mio - drums was 18. this is their first MV...they have a large catalog considering how young they are including 2 releases just this year...
I call Hal-Ca an M-80. Why M-80's were firecrackers that were actually small stucks of dynamite. That fits both her stature (4'11") and how fiercely powerful she is!
Asterism there amazing musicians all early 20’s just started listening to them this year they just put out a new ep a day ago or so really amazing stuff
I think in a trio, a bass player has space to play the full range of a 7 string bass. If you watch enough Asterism videos, you'll see him do really cool stuff on the instrument. Hal-ca on guitar is a monster. They all kill it. Their Guernica CD is a very cool prog CD. Someone will mention the Church video.
Back when they were kids having (hard rock) fun - but the most amazing kids on the block (... if the planet is a block). They have evolved a lot since then, and in many directions - their most recent work is a concept mini album called "Planet Of Metal" and it's a masterwork (I mean .. .really!) of progressive ... everything: rock, metal, jrock, ambient, jazz, psyche ... 26 minutes of madness by three unleashed virtuosos just playing what they want. There's simply NOTHING they can be compared to nowadays.
Why do I always miss their releases though, they should push them more on their yt channel (and not with stupid shorts, because they don't appear in my subbox any more) and twtr removed the way I checked their service as a possibilty, so I am missing a lot since that happened. Thanks for this though, I will pre-order it after this. Now it's just waiting on a CD version of their that live release. I just don't like streaming services.
They just dropped a new album yesterday. Mostly back to instrumental, and it's a collab with an artist named Ackey Bright. Good stuff so far. I'm not sure there is a physical reason for a 7 string bass, but this guy can pull off thumb sweeps on the thing. I don't know of anyone doing that on bass. The "butt on the ground' guitar solo is amazing too. What was I doing at 14? It certainly wasn't writing songs like this.
I think the new EP is the best stuff they have put out since the 1st full album IMHO. I loved Guernica album but the new one takes me back the reason why I fell in love with them! 🤘🤘🤘
Having a 7 string bass is harder to play, bass strings are more spaced out than guitar string so playing a 7 string bass means you'd need to stretch your hands a lot more if you want to use the other strings you have + you'd have more fretboard surface for you hands to travel + it is way heavier to carry lol, generally people who make the conscious decision of using a 7 or 6 string bass as there main instrument plan on doing solos and play lead parts on it since more strings means an extended range and so you can play higher or lower notes than a a normal bass and so more choices of melodies and techniques and doing so is already hard on bass compared to guitar because of how thick and hard to bend the strings in a bass can be and how much you'd need you hand to move around (bass fretboard is longer than a guitar), it's the reason you'll rarely see someone play anything more than a 5 string bass and be good at it.
Miyu's bass is 7-string custom (one off) from ESP. It was a special order. He has another one with a different color. (Yeah, these are not your typical off the rack regular model)
Love me some Asterism. While Rising Moon is great, it's a fairly basic metal song by their standards. But Haruka and Miyu were just 12 when they wrote it, and have progressed quite far since then. Not only virtuosic instrumentalists, but prodigy composers as well. You should check out _Dawn,_ which is probably my favourite song of theirs: ua-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/v-deo.htmlsi=j8hIvgnI5d1xLGMb And if you want to see them performing Rising Moon back when she was literally 12 years old, here's a clip of that: ua-cam.com/video/6ffOVGvl6f0/v-deo.htmlsi=fr0p7NJZGouBA5Hk

(and all of them have a LOT of fans)
That ESP 7string bass was made only for him by ESP.... React to LOVEBITES new bassist Fami channel do bass cover Alien Alien(viewed 11M++) mind your jaw 😱😱😱
Congratulations on finding the best new power trio since (in my opinion) Cream. They are from Fukuoka, Japan, and consist of: Haruka Noma, guitars (“HAL-CA”) (23 November, 2002) Miyu Yoshinaka, bass (12 March, 2002) Mio Yoshinaka, drums (13 November, 1999) They started as an all-instrumental band, and have recently begun adding vocals. They were formed in 2014 when Noma was 11 and the brothers were 12 and 14 respectively. They were all playing at a talent fair for young musicians in their hometown, when one of the music scouts noticed them, had a hunch and suggested they play together. The result was, to say the least, explosive. Most of their current youtube catalogue is fan-made live video footage, much of it at the Hard Rock Café in Fukuoka. There are also several clips from their tours of the U.S., including stops in Austin, Los Angeles and New York. From the start, they have written most of their own music, covering a wide range of styles. The brothers bring a lot of jazz and funk ideas into their playing. Miyu plays 4,5 and 7-string basses, which are co-lead instruments in his hands. They are all phenomenal talents, but the big draw has been Noma, known by her first name Haruka or by her stage name Hal-Ca. She has been likened to a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, with bits of Joe Satriani, Nuno Bettencourt and Akira Takasaki, among others, thrown in. Even in the Japanese scene, with its overload of extraordinarily technical instrumentalists, she stands out. She also writes most of the band’s music. Best clips to start with are: “Rising Moon” (their first professional MV): you just watched this “Blaze” (Live): ua-cam.com/video/51Pxkp8lGAs/v-deo.html “Light in the Darkness” (Live): ua-cam.com/video/QpxNcZoNjVU/v-deo.html “Yunagi” (Studio live): ua-cam.com/video/8Kjntjpnn7U/v-deo.html “Dawn” (Live): ua-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/v-deo.html “Day 26” (Studio live) ua-cam.com/video/6qcxU-rikgs/v-deo.html “Light in the Darkness” (live 2023, New York): ua-cam.com/video/SzJGx1s4Hhg/v-deo.html To see Haruka practicing at home, these are fun: “Practice Homework”: ua-cam.com/video/_Fm9BBwsihw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/KPqpt7pxCoQ/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/dPvCGHVc4C0/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/JtP_o2bOjvA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/JiOeOw_YzMY/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/6AoVTmGZAS0/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Jd1dwy36poU/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/ptTm2KOWt_w/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/jFDssmQnn3Y/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/oRGzOp-wFt4/v-deo.html
Haruka is my favorite guitarist in the world. She's 15 here, wrote the song when she was 12. She's now 21 and believe me, you only experienced a tiny glimpse of what she's capable of 😊 Miyu on bass was 16 and his brother Mio on drums 18 in this video. You definitely have to watch Dawn, Church, Gunfire or Light in the darkness. Preferably live. Thanks 🤘🏻 🙂
This angel is one of the best singers (incredible extremely low vocal, dramatic contralto + polyphonic voice) in the world! Diana Ankudinova I was stunned to find that the first performance (Show "You are Super") I heard was when she was 14!!!! She's now 20 and still developing. She sings in Russian, French, English, German, Spanish and Arabic. The covers she performed on that show are very popular on UA-cam. Many UA-camrs publish reactions on these performances, which include "Oh,Darling" (❗10 y.o.), "California Dreamin' " , "Sweet Dreams" (all 19 y.o.), "Can't Help Falling In Love", "Crow", "Personal Jesus" (all 18 y.o.), "Wicked Game", "Human" (15 y.o.), "Derniere Danse", "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" (14 y.o.), "Take On Me" (17 y.o.) , film soundtrack to Dune, James Bond, Spirit of Baikal (all 20 y.o) and others.
former aspiring bassist here, to answer your question: obviously, 4-str is standard , 5-str if you play a style where you need a little extra range (usually a low B, but sometimes a high C) , and afaic, more than that is just showing off 😂 in the case of 7 strings, that's an extra octave-and-a-quarter , which actually makes more sense once you realize that the 2 brothers actually started out playing as a duo before meeting Hal-ca ; so he was doing double-duty. fyi: if you see him with his 5-str, it means he'll be sweep-picking some arpeggios ; and if he dusts off his 4-str, it means he needs his whammy bar (yes, on a bass ... not too many of those around). i've watched him be able to play a standard bass line with one hand while _simultaneously_ playing a completely different part with the other hand (which _might_ actually be what you're hearing when you say you're hearing a tracked rhythm guitar ; i could be mistaken about that bit , but i DO know they don't use tracks live, and it still sounds great). Here's the kicker -- i've seen many live vids of them, and there's not an in-ear to be found. no click-track, nothing -- they just old-school jam it. (only the old-school floor monitors for hearing themselves) This song is (i believe) is the first song Hal-ca wrote (if i'm wrong, then this was #2 and either _155_ or _Yunagi_ was #1), when she was 11-or-12 (which would account for the simple structure you mentioned). if you keep following them , you are certainly in for a real treat. i stumbled on these guys last year, and has been the most exciting find for me in over 20 years.
HAL-CA the guitarist is 15 here ... with brothers Miyu - 16 on bass and Mio - 18 on drums. The band was formed in 2014 and named for an actual "asterism" ... a group of stars ;) . "HAL-CA ... stop playing with your friends. Come finish packing your lunch and get ready for school :p " HAL-CA on stage and off stage are very different. On stage she is a monster ... in person she is a humble tiny girl ... almost shy or bashful. Unassuming. I have had short conversations with her on a couple of platforms and she is always very polite and respectful ... but put a guitar in her hands. Miyu's bass is a custom 7 string made for him. Mio is IMHO the most reserved of the group ... there is a drum cover of "Ghost of Perdition" by Opeth by him ... but it is not here on YT. The band visited us here in the USA last year in a really poorly organized and not well publicized tour. Not their fault at all. As a result they simply played their shows for free because they love to perform and it is about the music ... not the fame or the money it seems. I'll put something special up "somewhere else" from their visit here :) .
To me, Rising Moon is one of their more average works... They have better ones. And yes, they do it better live! Hal-Ca also has a great singing voice.
I can't believe that Yamaha never gave her a major sponsorship when she was playing that Pacifica model. She's rocking an ESP guitar now. There's a lot of great Asterism material to discover. This is a more classic metal tune. Done beautifully, of course. Hope you'll look into their prog masterpiece EPs 'GUERNICA' and 'GUERNICA + a'. The 'Church' and 'Museum of Death' tracks are really great.
Wait until you see one of their real live performances. 😉The stage presence of all three of them for such a young age is beyond impressive. Of course dear Haruka (stage name Hal-Ca) stands out, but Miyo by her side is in my opinion perhaps the most versatile bass player out there today with that monster of a bass which is a special custom-made model for him by ESP btw.. And his brother Mio on drums is the gravity that keeps these two archangels of metal in front of him from taking off into the infinity of the cosmos. I can only echo the previous recommendations of 'Church (Live In Studio)', 'Gunfire (Live In Studio)' and then perhaps their most impressive track to date '『DAWN』2019/04/20'. The latter absolutely in this version, from Takako's channel. Yes, it's a fancam with not the best sound, but it beats every other video out there by far, as it was recorded from the front row. It doesn't get any closer and more impressive than this.... But don't forget to strap yourself :) in and just let the last 2 1/2 to 3 minutes play without pause while these 3 take you on a journey to the stars. ✨🔥🤘🏻 _____________________ _"America invented rock. England improved it. And now, Japan has perfected it."_ ※ Band-Maid ※ Gacharic Spin ※ Lovebites ※ Nemophila ※ East of Eden ※ Hanabie ※ Asterism ※ Trident ※ Hades ※ etc.
As far as their ages go: Guitars: Haruka (Hal-Ca) born November 2002. Bass (he some tracks on a 5 string bass as well, but this is a custom 7-string bass by ESP): Miyu born March 2002. Drums: Mio born November 2000. This track was released in 2018, so I assume Hal-ca was 15-16 when this released, Miyu was probably 16 and Mio was 17-18. But it was most likely on the lower end of that since both Haruka (Hal-ca) and Mio were born at the end of the year. But apparently Haruka wrote this when she was 12. There is footage out there from when they were 12 or so on stage and they were already killing it. I read she only learned to play the guitar from when she was 10 years old, which is nuts if that's true because she was already really good at age 12 going on from the little footage I have seen from around that time. The brothers and Haruka met at a music competition from what I have heard when they were around that age. Their first release is from 2016 (so the youngest were about 14-15).
Never mind their ages (they're in their 20s now), Miyu is simply my favourite bassist, Hal-Ca might be my favourite guitarist, and Mio's an incredible drummer too. It's their unique combination of musicianship and soul across the band that gets me. A recommendation not for NittPicc but for anyone who's been impressed by Asterism, go and listen to their latest EP released two days ago, Planet of Metal: ua-cam.com/video/bWviBodvbvc/v-deo.html
The more strings you have, the more sonic range you have. I can’t comment on the physical aspects of it as I’ve never seen a seven string in person, but he’s obviously comfortable with it. Miyu has a few other basses now; the ones I know of are his five string, his new five string with a whammy bar, his four string with a bar, and the seven string. Haruka/HAL-CA is the shortest adult musician I know of at 4’ 8”
Hi, NittPicc! I'm pohojisan from BM-CD. 🤗 Asterism is a band that combines skill, ideas, and creativity that stand out among young, talented Japanese bands. This performance was about six years ago, and guitarist HAL-CA is now 21 years old. Bassist MIYU, now 22, has been playing both 7-string and 5-string bass depending on the song at their most recent shows. MIO (now 24), the drummer, is MIYU's older brother, a remarkably skilled and wise guy who lets HAL-CA and his young brother shine. At the time of this MV, they were charismatic and popular in the provincial cities of the Kyushu region, but had little name recognition in Tokyo or the rest of Japan. They have since expanded their activities to Tokyo, and although their focus is basically still on being an instrumental band, recently HAL-CA has taken on the challenge of singing vocals, dramatically expanding their range of expression. And of course, at their age, all three have brushed up their technical and musical skills dramatically since the time of this MV. Moreover, their personalities are completely different from the impression in this video, and they are very honest, pure, polite, and very favorable young people. As I am 64 years old this year, I can't help but support this kind of band, and I hope you, NittPicc, will continue to follow their growth and support them for a long time to come.
What's your sign? 💫

they have a song called "Church" that is just beautiful.
Church followed by Gunfire in a row. The calm before the bombing raids.
So far Hanabie vids have not seen a lot of blocks and are also new to Sony. I am hopeful that trend will continue with Asterism :) .
Her name is spelled Hal-Ca . But is pronounced Haruka . In Japan the letter L is Pronounced RU. She started playing at age 10 and wrote this song at age 12.They recorded it on their first album at age 15 and shot this vid when she was 16.
To call these kids prodigies is a huge compliment to prodigies.
The basic purpose of the 7 string bass is that Miyu (the bassist) can essentially play rhythm guitar when needed on the top 4 strings (top here is in pitch, they are the bottom 4 physically).
Hal Ca is phenomenal. She's just amazing
I’m glad you loved it . The live version of Dawn and the studio version of Church and even more amazing .
I think their song "Church" would give you another perspective on this band. The live in studio version is mind blowing.
And Miyu is probably the best, most versatile bassist you will ever see.
The song Dawn by these guys has the most crazy soloing. There is a live video of them doing this song too.
Yeah, her solos in Dawn will melt your face! 🙂
Oh wow! Never thought you'd get to Asterism! Can't wait to hear how this one hits you. More after watching!
Asterism means a group of stars ! I would love to see them and Band Maid perform together =)
The bass solo on " Dawn" literally brought tears to my eyes because it was so beautiful.
and they just keep flowing through the coda
Hal-Ca is my favorite guitarist! She is such a speed demon! The talent in this group is outstanding!
This is their youthful exercise, an introduction to Asterism...now you can try more serious things: Church is a masterpiece Down (live) is a showcase Unravel, Light into darkness live Inferno....
You can find their RH video in 2014 (song called "155") when HAL-CA and MIYU were 12 years old on their UA-cam channel.
_Planet of Metal_ is out now (you'll have to hit their "Releases" tab) -- a return to form, but heavier ... simply AMAZBALLS!
@@Double_J_48629 Thanks!
She was 15 when they recorded this song
And 12 when she wrote it
Hal-Ca is the 5 foot, Japanese female equivalent of Joe Satriani.
Hey Mark, have a happy holiday weekend ;) .
Hal-Ca is a unique guitarist. At her age she is the most gifted and talented musician.
That "screeching noise" is a pinch harmonic.
Just saw them in Atlanta. Ruined my shirt, lost my shoes multiple times, AND had fun interaction with 3 of the 4 members! BLAST of a show!
Glad you checked out Asterism. One of my favorite bands. Hope you watch more of their MV's
That guitar element you’re talking about is pinch harmonics
you should check out Dawn by Asterism next! you aint seen nothin yet!
One of the most underrated bands. Haruka is one of the best guitarists around. Saw them live and they are incredible and very humble if you meet them. They added vocals recently by Haruka adding a whole new element.
The average age of this MV is 16 years old.🎸🎸🥁🤗
Pinch harmonics... Yes!
Yes, the bassist strums the rhythm section in some songs.
Yeah, I found it very similar in behavior (not sound) to Eugene from ginger. He sometimes follows the drums, sometimes follow the guitar , and sometime he follows none of them. And he uses his 6 string base to fill up the role of second guitar when needed.,
Hey Ho from Germany... There is so much you need to see of Asterism... I think Hal-Ca(Guitar) is so unique! Do Church, as a surprise :)
you need to check out Quadratum dance of eternity cover. since you like violin
A new band for me to follow. Cool Beans!
I knew you would like them!
she can be pretty ferocious...there's a lot of great videos of them out there to check out including a cool 'studio live' series for their album Guernica+a from 2021, and some good live stuff too if you look...this song here is from their 2nd EP that came out in Jan-18 when Hal Ca on guitar and Miyu - bass were still 15, and Mio - drums was 18. this is their first MV...they have a large catalog considering how young they are including 2 releases just this year...

I call Hal-Ca an M-80. Why M-80's were firecrackers that were actually small stucks of dynamite. That fits both her stature (4'11") and how fiercely powerful she is!
there are tons good girl guitarist in Japan but Haruka got something no others have and that is the "tone".
You should give Church (live in the studio) a look, one of their very best songs.
It came out a couple of days ago, right?
@@JuanSan66
Digitally, yes, the limited CD release is in a month apparently.
@@JuanSan66 yes
@@MaartenT I just found it on Spotify, it looks like some kind of concept album in collaboration with a mangaka artist.
That screeching sound is called Pinch harmonics. Or some people call them Squealies
You should check out _Dawn,_ which is probably my favourite song of theirs:

Asterism es una banda que se formó el 2014, con 13-14 años de edad, en este video si bien no me equivoco están entre los 16 y 18 años, Hal-Ca es la más joven, ella tenía 16. Talento puro, te recomiendo la canción Church. (Y otra banda East of Eden con el tema Hanabie, ya que tu preferencia también es el violín)
This band would have been right at home in the 1960's.

Hi NittPicc please react to the new colab from babymetal and electric callboy "RATATATA". The perfect good vibes song!
Congratulations on finding the best new power trio since (in my opinion) Cream. They are from Fukuoka, Japan, and consist of:
Haruka Noma, guitars (“HAL-CA”) (23 November, 2002)
Miyu Yoshinaka, bass (12 March, 2002)
Mio Yoshinaka, drums (13 November, 1999)
They started as an all-instrumental band, and have recently begun adding vocals.

This angel is one of the best singers (incredible extremely low vocal, dramatic contralto + polyphonic voice) in the world!

I was stunned to find that the first performance (Show "You are Super") I heard was when she was 14!!!!
She's now 20 and still developing. She sings in Russian, French, English, German, Spanish and Arabic.
The covers she performed on that show are very popular on UA-cam. Many UA-camrs publish reactions on these performances, which include "Oh,Darling" (❗10 y.o.), "California Dreamin' " , "Sweet Dreams" (all 19 y.o.), "Can't Help Falling In Love", "Crow", "Personal Jesus" (all 18 y.o.), "Wicked Game", "Human" (15 y.o.), "Derniere Danse", "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" (14 y.o.), "Take On Me" (17 y.o.) , film soundtrack to Dune, James Bond, Spirit of Baikal (all 20 y.o) and others.
former aspiring bassist here, to answer your question:
obviously, 4-str is standard , 5-str if you play a style where you need a little extra range (usually a low B, but sometimes a high C) , and afaic, more than that is just showing off 😂
in the case of 7 strings, that's an extra octave-and-a-quarter , which actually makes more sense once you realize that the 2 brothers actually started out playing as a duo before meeting Hal-ca ; so he was doing double-duty. fyi: if you see him with his 5-str, it means he'll be sweep-picking some arpeggios ; and if he dusts off his 4-str, it means he needs his whammy bar (yes, on a bass ... not too many of those around).
i've watched him be able to play a standard bass line with one hand while _simultaneously_ playing a completely different part with the other hand (which _might_ actually be what you're hearing when you say you're hearing a tracked rhythm guitar ; i could be mistaken about that bit , but i DO know they don't use tracks live, and it still sounds great).
Here's the kicker -- i've seen many live vids of them, and there's not an in-ear to be found. no click-track, nothing -- they just old-school jam it. (only the old-school floor monitors for hearing themselves)
This song is (i believe) is the first song Hal-ca wrote (if i'm wrong, then this was #2 and either _155_ or _Yunagi_ was #1), when she was 11-or-12 (which would account for the simple structure you mentioned).
if you keep following them , you are certainly in for a real treat. i stumbled on these guys last year, and has been the most exciting find for me in over 20 years.
They just dropped a collab EP with Acky Bright called Planet of Metal!
call it recency bias, but it may possibly be my favorite yet.
HAL-CA the guitarist is 15 here ... with brothers Miyu - 16 on bass and Mio - 18 on drums. The band was formed in 2014 and named for an actual "asterism" ... a group of stars ;) .
"HAL-CA ... stop playing with your friends. Come finish packing your lunch and get ready for school :p "
HAL-CA on stage and off stage are very different.
I figured this is a great intro song for her to discover my favorite band . It shows how talented they are and readies you for Dawn and Church
2:00 There it is! The "how many strings bass" look!
Klw di lepas kaca matanya akan lebih cantik sayang💋💋💋💋
Hy✋mt mlm cantik saya kangen denganmu❤💋

As far as their ages go:
Guitars: Haruka (Hal-Ca) born November 2002.
The term prodigy is thrown around far too much. In the case of Asterism, it truely applies.
Haruka/HAL-CA is the shortest adult musician I know of at 4’ 8”
its called a pinch harmonic. on the guitar. That noise you speak of. :)
Hi, NittPicc! I'm pohojisan from BM-CD. 🤗
Asterism is a band that combines skill, ideas, and creativity that stand out among young, talented Japanese bands.
