I have a short torso too and when I first started I followed the 3” rule and it really left some designs in odd places🤪. Now I do the 2” placement for all my shirt torso designs. I love my Cricut mini to iron down the appliqué. It gets those tight spaces.

What an awesome start to finish embroidery project -well done👍. The only thing I would do different is not to use the fusible stabilizer but a wash-away-stabilizer instead. The reason not to use fusible stabilizer is because the fibers from the fabric gets pulled as shown in section 1:10:19 of video. There are several types of fabrics may be possible to use fusible stabilizer as a non permanent, but in most situations not suitable. Otherwise great job.

Wow! Thanks great video! I like tear away but for some reason I can't get all the paper out of the stitches. Any tips!
You don't want to get the paper out of the stitches. That is what is stabilizing them. You just pull the EXCESS tear away stabilizer around the design and through the empty parts. Not under the stitching. I hope this helps!

Have you ever tried Hot Fix adhesive instead of your Heat n Bond? It seems to work better preventing/ making less pokies?

Hi Marianne, they are Floriani thread storage boxes. I got mine from my local machine shop, but I've also found them online. I don't have a link. Hi Cristin - Did you use the fusible mesh cutaway because this was an appliqué pattern? Or do you use it on all shirts regardless of appliqué?
Hi Liz, for appliques, I use heat n bond lite. You can see that in this video. For the fusible mesh cut-away, I use that on the inside of EVERY shirt or clothing item. I've found that it works best to ward off puckering. And I use tear away stabilizer in the hoop and float the shirt. Full details shown in the tutorial and links for my preferred items are under the video. I've tried lots of various methods and this has brought me success. I hope this helps! Would an appliqué scissor work better taking off the excess fusible stabilizer?
I often use my duckbill applique scissors, but whatever works. You just want what you'll feel most comfortable in using that won't clip the stitches :)
What stabilizers would you recommend to use for shirt when using fast frames?
Hi Kathy, I don't know what fast frames are, but under the video, I have a list of all the items that I mention in the video that I recommend whenever embroidering on shirts. I hope this helps!

I tried this again and this time I was really watching the hoop stabilizer you are using. Unless I missed it (listened to it 3 times) I missed the type of stabilizer you used. It could be I was mixing it up with the type you fuse to the back of the T=Shirt (light mesh fusible mesh?). I see it appears you are not using the light mesh tear away but a heavier stabilizer on your hoop. I tried that and then I was successful in pinning. The pinning made a difference. However, I think I should have utilized a tear away stabilizer on the hoop. this was I would have been able to tear it away from the back of the T shirt. So, I am learning by trial and errors, and I am starting to like this. I think I am starting to like machine embroidery too. I am finding out not all digitizers stitch the same. some stitches are too thin. I find I have to re-run the stitches so that it has a better coverage and a nicer looking satin stitch. Please clarify if you have time. Anyway, thank you. 3/12/2022
Hi Gma B, I mention in the video that I swear by TEAR AWAY stabilizer for embroidering on shirts and I go into why. What setting on the iron when applying the fusible stabilizer?
I use it at the hottest setting
i use a no-show mesh and topping for my t-shirts but they always look puckered after washing them.
any tips on how to overcome this? is it normal for that to happen?
Hi LeYerrr are you using tear away in your hoop as shown in the tutorial? And is your no show mesh a fusible mesh stabilizer? Full details in the video and links under the video of the products I've used. If you're using a cut-away in your hoop, then that would be a problem in my opinion. When I did that, I always got wrinkling and puckering after washing. Use the same supplies that I mention in the video and you should be good to go. I've used this technique on thin shirts, heavy sweaters, and everything in between with excellent results.

Is there a reason you did not print out a template of the design to ensure it fitting the hoop and the placement of the top of the design?
I just don't do that since my way works for me, but I mentioned in the video that it is a good option for those that choose to print a template and I mentioned also that my daughter does that and it works great for her. Options...
I have purchased everything that you have to make this including the embrilliance software. How do you add the step like you were mentioning to add the vinyl to the boot. I have tried and tried but cant figure it out. Please tell me what steps to do? Thanks
Hi Vicki, I made this 2 years ago, so I had to re-watch the video. At 56:20 in the video I explain that after the fabric step and ironing it down, then I simply back up one step and lay down my clear vinyl to have it run the tack down stitch again. I hope this helps.

Cristin, when you buy new shirts do you wash them first?
Hi Carol, I usually do wash the shirts first because if they are going to shrink, it could alter the appliques a tiny bit. But I don't always. I bought one off Amazon the other day and it just arrived yesterday and I don't plan on washing that one since I need it soon :) So short answer, sometimes I do, generally I do :)

Can you iron on the inside other than over the vynil
I wouldn't iron clear vinyl at all personally, but if you have to iron, then yes, you want to cover it with a pressing cloth or iron from the inside, but again, I would NOT recommend ironing over clear vinyl at all. If you're talking about getting the extra mesh cut-away from the inside of the shirt, you are ironing the edges to heat it up enough to pull up and trim. You don't need to iron over the boot or the vinyl for this.

@@sherrymaylee9714 You can turn your shirt inside out and put a pressing cloth over the top and iron it that way for sure. That works fine too.
Do you put
your embroidered shirts in the dryer?
I do. I put them in the washer and dryer, but I do turn them inside out first. If you're going to use the vinyl I recommend, hold off as I'm going to wash and dry my shirt today to make sure this is the vinyl I used in my other shirts :) I'll update soon.
I just washed and dried my shirt normally (inside out) and the vinyl did perfectly. No issues at all.

the link for the fusible mesh is going to mesh stabilizer. it's not saying fusible.

I'm not sure I understand which blue tape you are using. The video shows 3M Pro series 1200 but your link in the description goes to a different blue tape.

OK Cristin...I have watched this for the bizillithinth time and I am still confused! In the beginning you said you always use World Weidner Fusible for all your shirt appliques (instead of SF101 or Kimberbell Fusible...then whenyou are talking about the applique later you say you always use Heat and Bond Lite for your applique..I have purchased both..do you really use both on each applique fabric or sometimes one and sometimes the other. I am hoping to actually get a shirt made - but I want to do it the official Cristin way and this old lady is confused...HELP! Watching this while doing the very tedious job of cutting away all that stabilizer from the 7 Spring Showers borders...ugh
No sweet Dawna. The World Weidner fusible mesh stabilizer is for the INSIDE of the shirt to ward off puckering on the shirt. The Heat N Bond Lite is for the back of the APPLIQUE PIECES on shirts. Does that make sense? Don't forget to iron down the applique pieces before the satin stitch so the applique pieces will adhere to the shirt. Great job in getting all your sashings and inner borders done! That's a big job! Proud of you!
