Far and away the best "vaporconcept" album since "News at 11," I wish this VHS had been real in 1998 so I could have annoyed my parents wearing it out. Checked out the back catalog on Bandcamp too, great stuff.
The ending pretty much states the emotional thesis behind the continued exploration of vaporwave and its subgenres. Perhaps, it speaks for all of us. Thank you.
@@dreamcastleTM Nostalgia has often been used for ill and for gain from others. It can trick us and deceive us and leave us in an opium like state. Yet, at the same time, nostalgia could be the very key to our self actualization as it can be used as a tool to craft and shape art in that pursuit to make sense of our past. Vaporwave artists for a long time have highlighted the vapid meaninglessness of our overly commercialized past decades. Artists today, I've noticed, are exploring that very same nostalgia through a hopeful and optimistic lens, one that is mindful of its contexts and exploitation. Nostalgia can either enslave us, or set us free, creating the very future we wanted to see when we were young. It can empower, inspire, and remind us that life is such a wonderful gift. What you have done with this album is make this clear. The art from the past (movies, books, themed toy sets) can influence the art of the future. That, I feel, is the emotional triumph of this album.
This is so cracked and I can't believe it exists. It's such a specific combination of things that have been made to harmonize in an incredible way. May your creative outlets always bring you joy.
I had some of those sets as a kid, this hit me in the gut, like hard. It recalls that sense of wonder and magic. The music is incredible, and really stands out in an oversaturated scene. Bravo 👏👏👏

the 80s-90s is deceptively a very, very difficult aesthetic to emulate perfectly. you did it at such a level that it feels like an indistinguishable product from that era and i genuinely did not figure it out until about halfway through. great job to you and the collaborating artists, excited to see what youve got in store.
This is amazing! I was not expecting this. This is "VHS tape your mom picked for you at the library/goodwill/thrift store that you use to fall asleep to" core but that's just going to the surface of what's on display here. I can't wait to watch all of it.
i just thoughtt his was gonna be a simple video with music playing in the background while lego stuff was happening at first. then i just went on a whole entire trip. I know i just finished the video but. i want more!! XD Thank you for this and great job to everyone that made this possible!!!!!!

never been a composed writer or anything so here's a stream of consciousness if you care: This is absolutely fantastic. I didn't even realize the lego sets were CG for a long ways in - it just looks that good. I know the VHS effect obscures it a bit, but its still wonderful. The story was interesting, and honestly I'm probably gonna be too dense to figure it out in whole, though I do assume the unknown letters is probably some font that needs transcribed and translated from the language I would guess it to be in :) . Tried but my transcribed letter attempts were not good enough it seems. Is it for the mythical seventh tape (that I assume is also sold out?) Majisto and Ogwen are wonderful and I greatly enjoyed them both. I still can't get over how good the background looked for that scene, I assumed some was CG but not nearly as much as it seems. Even just the overviews of the playsets were just so well done, the lighting, the candle and torch effects, the camera work, it all felt like a classic commercial but better. The attention to detail in all of these is just phenomenal, even the "media found" video looking realistic, but very clearly having the harry potter era door piece is just so cool. I never really had any of the castle sets, but I always wanted some. I do remember some of the sword and helmet pieces etc, so I assume we had one or two small sets. Always wanted one of the ghosts, but never realized how many sets had them! You really had to hit with the feels at the end though huh? I don't know if I will ever be able to capture that wonder again playing with sets back when, but I hope to try. (you did a pretty incredible job doing it here) I also spent a bit of time on your website. Its a bit overwhelming, but I do love it. Will have to spend more time later - been cleaning for a family visit the afternoons this week. Would love to see a set of the room you used as Majisto's place. This is the type of video I would expect to find with tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of views. I hope the algorithm keeps it flowing, you really deserve it. I also see you have an album on bandcamp with what looks to be a Johnny Thunder picture... thats a real throwback for me, whether it be staring at the catalogues over and over or what sets I did have. Anyway, thanks for reading my textwall (or not). Hope this takes off.
I came to this for music, was confused, and then became entranced. This brought me so many memories, particularly the tape that came with the Dragonstrike board game. Incredible stuff.
got recommended this right when it came out and thought it was simply another chill album. Boy was I wrong! This video has very very quickly become one of my favorites on the platform, one I revisit quite often on my living room TV. The love and passion, the handcrafted vibe of it all, its so cozy and beautiful. I am absolutely in love with this video, and I can’t wait to see what you do next!
I will never cease to be impressed by your work. Perfectly hitting that Vaporwave "something with sensibilities that never existed, but feel like they would have back in the day" kind of vibe, with heaps of care and attention to detail. I found you through sluggers cassette tape unboxing and have been a regular listener since. I think this is the best one overall, yet!
Its worth embrassing myself with my full name on the internet to say the ending of this touched me in ways I didn't expect, it made me cry. I clicked on this not expecting the costumes, awesome set work, and nostalgic builds. This is a true piece of artistic media! Your work is criminally underrated. Keep up the awesome projects, you have so much to contribute!
Congratulations on another incredible project Dreamcastle. I have been diving heavily into Lego Castle over the past few months and seeing this video, the love for all that made this theme amazing shines through. Both in the sets themselves as well as the creative and interesting ideas that people have made from them. Kudos!
I have watched the whole thing, and I gotta say, I get why it took so long! Having made such a professional project while having a day job is no small feat! Narrative albums really are your strong suit, I really enjoyed the story you weaved through the album, as well as your signature "creepy shit happens midway through the album," as seen in Enter the Dreamcastle, this time with a tinge of traumatic moments from 80s kids fantasy flicks. The last track was also incredibly poignant, and hits close to home even to a zoomer like me, whose happy childhood memories lie mostly in the early 2000s. Overall, *we're making it out of AD&D Second Edition with this one!* Overall, you've outdone yourself! Hopefully the community will be able to figure out that little ARG you've got going on, since I'm way too smoothbrained for that X)
Now that was awesome, a little different from your other albums since this has dialogue telling the story rather than being told in the timestamps like your "Enter the DreamCastle" album, but it's interesting. The crackly video quality makes me feel nostalgic for the 90s, the style reminds me of Vangelis when they made the music for movies like Blade Runner and that monologue at the end is so heartfelt I actually cried. I love it how you make these albums about old 90s Lego themes, and I'm going to keep watching to see what's coming next.
I first heard about this when it was covered on R. R. Slugger last summer and when I saw the full thing had been released, I tossed it on, expecting to get some solid background music. And then I sat there and watched the entire thing, start to finish. What a staggering work of medieval horror (the reframing of the yellow skies on many a Lego Castle box? Goosebumps!) and nostalgia, with something cogent and meaningful to say about the uses of nostalgia. The music, the animation, the live-action segments, the work to make it feel actually and truly vintage, the slippage between the realities; truly brilliant. This has dragged me deep into dungeon synth (thank you!) and I can't stop breathlessly pressing it on friends. I would love to learn about how this was made, to echo another commenter, but as is, this is truly incredible work. Much praise to the entire team!
This style and camera work is fantastic.... Story time with Majisto... could be big hit to revive the classic castle theme and get kids interested again. This is pretty special thanks for sharing
I love the way you bring the sets to life, this coupled with some quality stop animation would be pure gold story telling for LEGO as each set can be one of many episodes.
Argh, this can't premier soon enough. I've been counting down the days. The trailer was incredible, so I can only imagine how awesome the final product will be. I think I'll try to host a watch party in the Summer of Slug server 🤔
I'm a 37 year old man and the ending moved me to tears. I think you may be my doppelganger... Watching that virtual bedroom, I had (and still have!) that exact Sonic plush, and I think my parents had that exact oscillating fan. My neighbor had that exact Compaq Presario and I used to go over to his house and play games on it. Hell, I even had a fucking Tot Finder sticker in my window. This entire video from start to finish is just incredible. I hate to use that cliche vaporwave term, but you fucking nailed the aesthetic. And I'm not talking about vaporwave "aesthetic". You nailed the incredible nostalgic feeling of old Lego sets. The "Legoland" and "Lego System" logos. etc. I honestly thought this was a real Lego promotional video at first, that had simply been remixed with vaporwave music. It wasn't until about halfway through, that I realized this entire video was created by you. I grew up obsessed with the Lego Castle sets, so this video hits me hard. I only had a few sets because my parents could not afford to buy me a lot, but I loved the sets I had, and always browsed through the catalogs hoping I could get the rest of them. I had the Dark Dragon's Den set and was obsessed with the Dragon Masters sets. I also had the Black Monarch's Ghost set (because it was so cheap lol) Thank you for creating this beautiful video. As a fan of vaporwave, the music is great, but the entire video is just incredible. The UA-cam algorithm has blessed me by leading me to your video.
This is so incredible, the vibe is immaculate. I felt a pain in my soul listening and watching through this, but not in like a bad way. The word 'nostalgia' is formed from the greek words nostos (homecoming) and algos (pain) so calling this a Symphony of Nostalgia would be all too accurate. The ending especially really drives it all home for me.
Beautiful video, well done! I love all the little details, from the puppets to the animations, the VHS-era aesthetic and the interwoven lore. It's like a lost memory from childhood! And the music is great as always 👍
This is so specifically my vibe, I love every second of this and I love you for making it! I hope you have a good year, because you absolutely deserve it
i thought for a moment some of this was made with ai, in the 80's fantasy film ilk of ai generated videos, but no. You really did pull off this look by yourself with tools, what an idea in this day and age, thank you so much for making this fascinating piece, well done.
Nostalgic and engrossing, I really love the storytelling throughout, absolutely stellar work. You continue to impress me with your ability to capture a moment in time. Also excellent taste in films. Legend and Dragonslayer? Perfect.
This gave me chills and made me feel emotional. Really transported me back to the late 90's and early 2000's. Such a beautiful piece of art. I am trying so hard not to cry while watching this. Thank you and bless you everyone that worked on this. This is a masterpiece.
At the start of Bandit Ambush, I caught a very subtle Street Fighter III sample. Akuma has one of the best themes! Good choice! Great pitch work with the sample and perfectly timed with the drums!
haha, in this case it wasn't a sample, but it may very well have been the same synth instrument. I made a few deliberate choices to use some pretty famous patches.
Looks and sounds amazing! Coming from a vintage Lego and vintage synth collector! I've been thinking about using an old vhs camera to film my mocs and add some ambient stuff over it.
This is by far one of the coolest and most creative albums I’ve ever heard. It makes me feel so happy. I love it. Probably will be in one of my top 10 albums of my entire life. Do you ever plan on making vinyl copies? I would love to have it to listen to forever
I really enjoyed this. The 80s style is done so well here. The set you made for the little house with the fireplace and the puppet looks really cozy and cute! It reminds me a lot of Jim Henson's Storyteller series.
“It’s my sleepover and I get to choose the movie!”

I love the way you bring the sets to life, this coupled with some quality stop animation would be pure gold story telling for LEGO as each set can be one of many episodes.
This is a certified hood classic!
OMGGGGGGGG WHEN YOU USED THE ACTUAL MEDIEVAL ILLUSTRATIONS THAT DROVE ME FUCKING CRAZYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Argh, this can't premier soon enough. I've been counting down the days. The trailer was incredible, so I can only imagine how awesome the final product will be. I think I'll try to host a watch party in the Summer of Slug server 🤔
i feel ya. thanks so much for doing that!
Omg there's a Summer Of Slug server and you there's watch parties too!? Wow I gotta join.
I also had the Black Monarch's Ghost set (because it was so cheap lol)
Thank you for creating this beautiful video. As a fan of vaporwave, the music is great, but the entire video is just incredible. The UA-cam algorithm has blessed me by leading me to your video.
thank you for your story and your words 🥲
6:07 so beautiful
just what i needed
This is so incredible, the vibe is immaculate. I felt a pain in my soul listening and watching through this, but not in like a bad way. The word 'nostalgia' is formed from the greek words nostos (homecoming) and algos (pain) so calling this a Symphony of Nostalgia would be all too accurate. The ending especially really drives it all home for me.
Beautiful video, well done! I love all the little details, from the puppets to the animations, the VHS-era aesthetic and the interwoven lore. It's like a lost memory from childhood! And the music is great as always 👍
Absolutely otherworldly! What an amazing portal into the imagination you've created, thank you Dreamcastle!!! :)
This is so specifically my vibe, I love every second of this and I love you for making it! I hope you have a good year, because you absolutely deserve it
Where there is Lego Brick, there is an imagination spark!- me (lol)
And you only proved it!
OMG I love the dragon puppet!
This was so, so wonderful. Thank you very much for your art. Hope theres more in the works! Greetings from Spain ❤😊
@@Brickmogul hello from New England!!
i thought for a moment some of this was made with ai, in the 80's fantasy film ilk of ai generated videos, but no. You really did pull off this look by yourself with tools, what an idea in this day and age, thank you so much for making this fascinating piece, well done.
@@Ranookswierdstuffs thank you! I tried to get as practical as possible, as an homage to my favorite 80s films.
I love lego castle, dungeonsynth and vaporwave. I never thought both three would ever been mixed *LOL*
good job 🧙♂🪄
Nostalgic and engrossing, I really love the storytelling throughout, absolutely stellar work. You continue to impress me with your ability to capture a moment in time.
Also excellent taste in films. Legend and Dragonslayer? Perfect.
First time the youtube algorithm has gifted me with something so amazing.
This gave me chills and made me feel emotional. Really transported me back to the late 90's and early 2000's. Such a beautiful piece of art. I am trying so hard not to cry while watching this. Thank you and bless you everyone that worked on this. This is a masterpiece.
😢
Can't wait! Hopefully Majisto the Sampleweaver treats our ears yet again 🎉
@@dreamcastleTM very likely then. It goes almost note for note.
Looks and sounds amazing! Coming from a vintage Lego and vintage synth collector! I've been thinking about using an old vhs camera to film my mocs and add some ambient stuff over it.
This is Yoked AF. Great work.
This is by far one of the coolest and most creative albums I’ve ever heard. It makes me feel so happy. I love it. Probably will be in one of my top 10 albums of my entire life. Do you ever plan on making vinyl copies? I would love to have it to listen to forever
A magical journey in every sense of the word. Our humble planet is all the better for you having put this out 😊
This is so beautiful christ, so much work and love into this
This was amazing! I want a Majesto costume. 🧙
I enjoyed it
much like
%110 you deserve more credit for this masterpiece
I really enjoyed this. The 80s style is done so well here. The set you made for the little house with the fireplace and the puppet looks really cozy and cute! It reminds me a lot of Jim Henson's Storyteller series.
@@xgrillsenx Storyteller is such a favorite of mine.
Forget the cassette tape, I need a video tape of this masterpiece! ✨
This work of art is AMAZING!
