    Looks like an awesome location. Should be great once you get it finished. My wife and I are coming up in 2 weeks. We are booked with an outfitter right now but your place would be a great option for the future. We have friends that might join us as well.
    My advice is don’t rent it until it is fully operational. We have been to places that claimed to be ready but weren’t finished yet and the trip just sucked because of it.
    I’ve been watching your videos for the last 6 months now and really enjoy them. You put out quality stuff. This is our first trip to Alaska and we are looking forward to it.

      Awesome! I’m excited for you guys to see Alaska for the first time! Thanks for the advice on the vacation rental. We have been less than impressed ourselves with accommodations that weren’t up to par as well. I think we’re going to play the long game here and hold off until we have it set up just the way we want. I hope you find some fish while you’re here exploring! 🎣😎

    That is a great looking place. Looks like the snow finally hit Soldotna. Can you take us on a tour of the city and look at some river spots in with the fresh snow?

      Yep we finally have snow on the ground. Were a lil melty still but were expecting another storm here this week. Ill see what I can do about a river update! Some of the spots aren't winter maintained and its nicer to visit them when the ski trails are packed in. Great vid idea too!

    I can tell you I’m a avid fisherman from Pennsylvania. Over 60 years of all types of fishing. Came to Alaska the last 2 years and it was nothing I’ve experienced. Glad I had a guide from which fish I could keep, which ones I couldn’t, could never have used float boat the way the guide did and most of all keeping eye out for bears. Renting house on river is on thing, fishing from shore is also something most can handle, but the rest I’d say get a guide/provide a guide.

      I think your speaking for the majority here... I really like the DIY vacation myself but you make good sense about how valuable a guide could be and how it can really add to the experience overall. These rivers here can be unpredictable and having someone with experience to lead the way makes for a more comfortable and successful visit. I really appreciate your thoughts on this one as I get this thing started up..

      @@alaskasmallcraftadventures yes diy is something I hope to be able to do some day. The first year not knowing the area-what was there - we went with outfitter that was all inclusive. This year we realized we could save money and went with outfitter who housed us, provided guides and boats and we cooked our own meals. It worked out great. We were able to fish evening after our guided trips were done. Both years the one thing that amazed me is just how fast the kenai river flows. You see it on tv and don’t realize just how fast/powerful it is. One slip and you’re in Cook Inlet. So to have someone to give you pointer on that particular body of water was huge help. You will be successful, just seeing your videos and conversations with you I can tell.

      I like these ideas! Im leaning towards sleeping 4 or 6 right now and will offer vac sealing and a chest freezer for fish boxes. This means Ill need to do some extra construction when the ice melts. Im also working with the river center to permit a floating dock and staircase to make the fishing more accessible. I want to commit to renting this out but will wait until the projects are nearly completed to do so.

    There are few public access points on the Kasilof. My wife and I are not skilled at handling a drift boat, however this particular location is a prime location for river access. Good luck and best of fortunes as you pursue this business opportunity!

    • @alaskasmallcraftadventures
      @alaskasmallcraftadventures  8 місяців тому +1

      There sure is a lack of access and the logistics of drifting a boat is a challenge. Not to mention the physical strength needed and experience necessary to be successful and safe. Thanks for your input about what you guys a capable of. Im excited about this one and really want to provide a top experience for anyone interested in visiting. Thank you.

    Awesome to see you investing and building something special! I think this would be an excellent pit stop for a few days on a summer salmon trip! It would be sweet if you had a chest freezer and vacuum sealer for preserving our catch. Also if you had an RV hook up next to the cabin that would be sweet. We usually travel with about 5 dudes and the cabin looks a little small for that but it would be a great place to take a real shower and unwind after being cooped up in the RV. I think I would only do like 2-3 days there cause there is so many places to explore and I don't want to stay in one spot for too long. A hot tub on the porch would be epic!!! I would be game for trying the drift boat but maybe make it a daily rental option. Oooo IDEA, make a outdoor sitting/ firepit area down closer to the water so we can chill by the water's edge while our buddies are catching fish. Great potential with this property and I'm excited to see how it turns out. Hopefully I can get my crew up there summer 2024.

      I like these extra ideas for accommodation... Having an RV spot for guest at the cabin isn't something I thought about but its sure something that could be pulled off. I think well definitely be setting up to process, package and freeze everyone's catches.. Thanks for the insight on your party size too, it helps with determining how big I make this place.. Im leaning on being able to sleep 6 right now...

    I am headed to Soldotna 9/8-15 and planning on fishing the Kenai, Russian, and the Kasilof. I have really learned a lot from your videos, thank you. I would love to know more about your cabin and the current situation, renting it, do you have a boat yet to rent, can one fish from shore or is it 'no shore fishing drift boat only'? Would also enjoy speaking with you and learning more about the fishing and where I need to be fishing during that time I am there. I am coming alone. I will be equipped with fly rod and spinning gear. Thank you for filming. Mike

      Hello! My cabin is currently under construction. I’m welding up aluminum landings and a floating dock so the property is more accessible and safe. Because of this I won’t be accommodating guests this season but I really appreciate you checking in on this as it’s very motivating for me. Check the regs and see when the Russian river closes for fishing as you’ll be coming in at the end of the season. The kasilof river is drift only for boat fishing but it’s legal to shore fish. The kenai river and kasilof will be full of silver salmon. And the steelhead will be running thick by then. Expect high water because of the summer rains and the glaciers melting off.

    I would add a vehicle to the package like the outfits in Yakutat have historically done, lodging, vehicle, drift boat, people can use and pay for the shutlle gals...the last thing your gonna want to be doing is shuttling and launching boats for people....looks like you will need a 4 wheeler to take boat out of river with that hill.... great spot for someone who knows what they are doing and just wanted to fish the prime incoming/high tides already having a boat in the water and avoiding the boat launch mess on both ends competing with the 50+ guides everyday during King season.... too bad you don't have parking for 25 truck and trailer rigs you would be full up everyday!

I appreciate your feedback on what type of vacay you're looking at having and definitely let me know if you think of any other types of amenities you'd like while visiting.

    I'm in California and have fished the Kasilof a few times for Kings and Silvers with guides in drift boats. You have a prime location for sure! Would it be possible to floss Reds from the bank in front of the cabin?

    • @alaskasmallcraftadventures
      @alaskasmallcraftadventures  8 місяців тому +3

      The sockeye fishing from this North bank is some of the best in all of Alaska. I plan to make it easier to walk down to the spot and enjoy the bounty. Its just going to take some planning and a permit to get a dock installed but its on my list of top amenities for the cabin. The bank is river rock, not muddy and provides for a great fishing experience. The sun sets over the river and this spot has great southern exposure. The current back eddies and slows down just enough to fish lighter gear and allows the fish to rest right out front. I can't wait for the run to return!

    Most folks have no clue about how to fish a drift boat. You might make it an option in case there are those folks that have those skills. I think the bigger draw would be having walk out the door access to the river.

    • @alaskasmallcraftadventures
      @alaskasmallcraftadventures  8 місяців тому +2

      I definitely want to develop the walkout fishing aspect more. Im thinking a staircase with a floating dock would be perfect to get people right on the water. And good point about having necessary experience to safely float the river and catch fish. Its a workout to row a heavy boat for a few hours and may not be for everyone.

      This is just me, maybe think about what you would want if you were planning on making a Reservation at your cabin. For me you got my money on location, and different ways to fish (Boat or Bank) might be helpful to offer Captain to skipper the boat. You can do it yourself to save money and offer advice to clients. Not sure if you need Guide License or not for Row boat. Then after a day on the river you want to eat, (How’s your cooking skills, do you need a Chef. When camping or renting a cabin less is more. If I wanted a luxury experience I would fly into a resort or on the river with my private Helicopter I think you get what I mean. Open floor plan sleeping on the floor or bunk beds or a mix of both. Having running water is a plus (Hot). You might get a lot of local support (Alaskans) might also get some help with ideas.
