I must say, you are extremely well spoken. You keep my attention and interest. You are an excellent resource for information.
"I loved basic training" I've never heard that one before.
I know, I'm an interesting cat, that's for sure! I try to make the best of every situation... cheesy as it sounds.
It sucked but when you get to your duty station and make new friends that’s the best!! I’m considering going back in. 9 years after getting out (served 6 years).
I had fun in basic (Army). I kept out of the spotlight and did what I was told. They ended up making me a platoon leader for almost 5 weeks when everyone else was only 3. It was a great experience.
@@Auniesauce I'm 29 and working on my master's degree (MPA). I want to do the air force reserves or national guard (Utah, or Idaho). I live in Utah but went to BYUI and would relocate if I had to. Any advice on how to get into OTS? Any idea on the selection rate?
I’ve watched 50 something videos trying to get ready for enlisting into the Air Guard, and this video just encompasses all the information I needed to know - sheesh! Thank you so much, this has really motivated me for going into the Air Guard
Finally a female talking about this sort of thing! Thanks!
Aunie Sauce I have a question since you were enlisted then went officer do you get paid as an OE-1 ?
@@leehart440 As a retired member 1972 to 1997. If you are a prior service or enlisted, it depends on your years of service. I commissioned from E-7 to officer.
Ray below me is correct. It depends on prior years of service. I didn’t have enough enlisted to get paid as O-1E
I appreciate people like this, they take their opportunity and make the most of it versus people complaining about their experience.
Hey, I just wanted to say thank you! I joined the Ohio Air National Guard last month and your videos were a great tool in solidifying my knowledge. I'm excited for my future, 9 months of student flight here I come!
Awesome! Biggest congrats to you. I'm glad I was able to help a little. Enjoy every minute!
Thank you for all the great information! I'm prior service Navy and my medical file has sat on someone's desk at MEPS for over a year. It's finally under review and if approved, I'll be joining the ANG. I am 3 classes shy of my degree and your officer information was very helpful. Stay safe out there!
Kyle Gott sent me here. My son is active duty stationed in AK. He's an A1C in Security Forces. Been in 1.5 years. Just like to hear about every and any aspect of the Air Force. Subscribed.
Thanks so much, Christina! Wonderful - your son is on a great career path. We love our SF troops. And if he keeps a good head on his shoulders and demonstrates good work ethic, he'll move up super quick. Good for him!
I want to thank you Aunie for your upbeat and very positive video about your experiences with the ID ANG. You reminded me of what it was that I had loved about my time in the ANG, I accessed memories I hadn't thought of in far too long. I enlisted in 1983, retired in 2005. In those 22 years I was privileged to travel throughout the U.S. and Europe with my Air Guard units to places I would otherwise never been. Despite all of that, however, my greatest joy came on 16 Dec 2016 when then Pres. Barack Obama signed into law the "Jeff Miller and Richard Blumenthal Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2016" which granted veteran status for National Guard soldiers and airman and reservists from all branches of service. That had been an open and painful wound for so very long, to now join the ranks of our countries veterans was beyond words for me.Once again I thank you for a well prepared and presented video. I wish both you and your husband very successful careers and happiness in all your endeavors.Laura
Hi there Laura! Thanks so much for this comment! Wow -- 22 years, thanks so much for doing that. I can totally see myself in your shoes and reflecting positively back on my time in. You definitely got to see some cool things, especially in Europe! I'm jealous! Thank you again so much for your comment, for your dedication to our country, and for your uplifting spirit. I appreciate you and am happy to be a veteran alongside you!
Thank you for such an inspiring and motivating video for joining the Guard. I had no idea that the Guard could present so many opportunities, I always thought you had to be active to get anywhere in the military
Yay, Tanika, thank you! Very, very glad I could give you a new perspective.
I enlisted with a bachelors degree and I ship out next month! Hoping to also become an officer one day, thank you for this video!
As a female who wants to serve in the Air Force, and as one who may want to go the officer route, I REALLY appreciate this video and can't wait to see more!
P.S. Kyle Gott sent me :)
Came from Kyle Gott and can't wait to see more videos about the air force and air national guard.
This is awesome you had answered many questions I was curious about :) I'm still waiting to go to meps next month so I've been studying since then.
That was very helpful. I've been thinking about joining. I feel like my life is at a dead end place in time. And have a friend who is in the air national guard and he loves it. I have to set up a time with him to go to his recruiting center. It just feels like the right thing to do in this part of my life. I have nothing right now except a skydiving and BASE jumping back round. Which really hasn't gotten me anywhere,as a citizen. So I think I know which path I would take in the air national guard. Maybe like paramedic or a main rigger. Or both.
Dustin De Salvo sounds perfect! What I love so much about the ANG is that it truly gives me something to look forward to every single day!!
Thank you for this video! For some reason it's so difficult to find UA-camrs that are AF officers to talk about their experiences lol
Kyle Gott Recommended you! Ive been looking for female remodels in the AF and im very happy to finally find one!
Thank you so much you answered exactly what I was looking for. And gave great details.
Thank you for sharing your experience with me! It helped me understand how the enlisted to officer transition process works in ANG.
You’re so welcome. Glad you have an open mind - it can be very challenging to commission!
How do you maintain a stable job if you are constantly sent to all those locations? That’s my biggest concern right now.
If you're employed by a civilian job while you're in the guard, they're required to support and honor your commitment and allow you to leave. They're required, if you get deployed for instance, to give you up to five years away and still guarantee a job of your same pay when you return. Most civilian employers are very understanding - mine loved it because of all the cool skills I brought back with me each time!
Great video Ma'am and congratulations on your commission. I am glad I followed Kyle's link to your channel.
Howdy and hello,
I just received all my documents for my transition into the USAF and I look forward to the journey...My friends are supporting me, as well my family of course...I am in the "Hurry up and Wait" period...I've got a B.S, world experience, etc...Your video is GREAT information.
Air National Guard is interesting...I am in a mental process of which one should IO choose.
Time will tell.
Keep it up!
Hi Hamilton! Yep, that's the biggest thing to decide. Great for you to be jumpstarting your future like this though. You'll make a great choice no matter what. The hurry up and wait is the hardest part. You got this!
Army national guard combat engineer here 👊🇺🇲 re enlisting into the air guard component to become a TACP. Thanks so much for the info!
This was very helpful.
My husband enlisted in the guard in May 2018; and we are waiting for his tech date and for him to go to basic. He has chosen propulsion as his career. I hope it won’t take too long
I hope so for you, too! It took me about 5-months to get my dates all squared away. Hoping it goes fast for you!
Where are you stationed by?
How come you didn't just join the Guard for your college degree in nursing Donny?
Thank you for this video. I've been looking on the AF sites for the last 4 days trying to learn as much about it as I can. This def gave me a nudge in a direction I'm more comfortable with.
Thank you for making this video. Very informative and useful! I'm talking with the Air National Guard recruiter at the moment. I have a bachelor's, so I see myself possibly moving along the same path (but hopefully in MI).
Thank you.
is it really hard to go from enlisted to officer? they always said it is.
Alfred Tineo I thought it was difficult. But here I am! It was worth the process. The biggest thing to remember is that it's just like a job interview. It's hard to get picked, but if you do--you're in!
The best way I've heard is always rotc route in college. If you have a degree then you can apply for OCS
Thank you for this video, this really helped me understand about the national guard.
ahh! i was watching another video about OTS and saw your video pop up! keep doing awesome things girl!
Ahhh thanks so much TSgt! (Or are you MSgt now?!) Are you considering commissioning? I hope you're doing well... you were such a light at our school... always making us laugh!
Aunie Sauce i got picked up for OTS. Just waiting on a class date now. ill be a 63A acquisitions
Haha! ANG wife got recruited by her husband! Got to make goal!
Aunie Sauce hello, is there anyway I could email you and your husband directly. I have a few urgent questions as I am waiting to go to meps. Please
I can't believe how fast a runner you were at OTS!
Ha! That was a long time ago... Would you believe my time was about 10 seconds faster at SF school? Not sure I can get back down to that now! Babies change everything!
@@Auniesauce Hey Aunie! Good to hear from you. My UA-cam career has taken off and I'm separating to do UA-cam full time. You ever thought about making more videos?
So your husband has to salute you now and you can pull rank over him in fun of course.
ted101975 we have a perfect saluting method worked out. It's always fun when we see each other outdoors. It's also great because I get to go enlist his new recruits!
This coming fall I'm joining a detachment of AFROTC to become a commissioned officer with a nursing degree when I graduate from college. It's really nice to see a woman speaking about this because it's a scary and exciting thing. Thank you so much!
Every word spoken shared is helpful and descriptive. I appreciate this like many others. RESPECT🇺🇸😷
You are amazing. Very intelligent and easily spoken. Thank you for the video. I am meeting with a recruiter after watching your video.
Hey! I live in Boise, I love seeing the Hawgs flying around. :) It's cool to see someone in Idaho representing our service. :D
Wow, this was the video that I needed to watch! I currently enlisted to the ANG in Puerto Rico… I have a BSc. In Chemistry and two master’s degree MBA & MSHC and noticed I can maximize my career if I commission… My passion is being an administrator but I’m willing to expand to anything available and be the best airman I can be! Truly appreciate this video!
Oh good! Best of luck in commissioning. Definitely the best way is to enlist first. You’re on the right track!
@@Auniesauce thanks for the feedback… I’m looking forward to develop my career with the ANG, much success and health and wealth to you! 🙏🏽
Great video! I've watched it a couple times throughout my commissioning process... I was selected back in September 2017 and after a lot of waiting my package is just now getting sent to NGB. I was wondering how long it was after submitting your package until you heard back from NGB and got a school date?
Hi Kayla! Thanks so much for the email. I was selected in September of 2015 and went to OTS in April 2016... I think I had my date in December or so. It can be a long process! Sorry yours is taking so darn long.
+Kyle Gott sent me, and wow, I'm so glad that he recommend you. You're so inspirational! Seriously, if I wasn't already thinking about joining, you definitely put out the positive energy about the Air Force that would make me start thinking about it. Keep up the awesome videos! :)
Oh my goodness, Dennis, thanks so much! What positive feedback. I sure appreciate it! Best of luck in your endeavors and if you join - good on you! Such an exciting thing to be pursuing.
Since you have been in the system for a while now, do you know if I can transfer from the California ANG to Texas ANG? Also if you dont mind answering another question, do you know if when you pick an AFSC does the recruiter accommodate the base for your job or do you get transferred?
Hello. Yep, you can transfer. You just need to work with your retention office and the Texas recruiters. Typically if you join in California, for instance, you have to pick a job that they have there. You cannot join a job for the state of your choosing if that state doesn't have the job.
Thanks for all the help i got in yeahhh im gonna be in aerospace medical service next week im goona swere in
Thanks for the video. From my understanding the initial commitment for the Air National Guard is 6 years. How is this commitment effected by training and officer candidate school? Did waiting for Basic Training and OCS, or any other type of training, count as time served? Did anything add additional time to your commitment? I would like to join the Air National Guard to learn Arabic and serve as a cryptologist/linguist.
Hi there Colton. Yep, you guessed it. From the moment you join and any time awaiting training or in schools, that counts toward your time commitment. So I had three years already fulfilled when I graduated OTS :) yay! Best of luck to you on your journey!
thank you so much for this video. i'm enlisted active duty and i want to take the officer route through the guard and someone finally covered the information i needed. thank you again.
Oh I'm so glad!!! Thank you~ My best advice to getting accepted to OTS is to bring a strong package. If you go through the guard, you'll have to submit a package for the specific job you're looking to get hired into. It's very different than active duty. You'll have to interview, like a job, against all the other people who apply. It's very competitive. Make sure your package is good and pay specific attention to your resume. When you apply for positions, they'll let you know what you need in your packet :)
CAME OVER FROM GOTT...I LOVED THE USAF THERE IS A GREAT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ANG AND THE REGULAR AF..IN REGARDS TO THE ENLISTED AND OFFICER RELATIONSHIP THIS OCCURS IN THE AIRCREW MEMBER WHERE ALL WORK AS A TEAM ...TKS AGAIN RON
I love your videos! I have recently raised my right hand for a cyber job in the guard that I waited 2 years for. Student flight pre-BMT PT is really difficult for me. I know they try and make it harder than the "real deal", but whats a good regiment to get fit faster? I'm skinny and not very good at physical activity "especially running". The only thing that scares me about BMT is the physical aspect. I know I can do any of the intellectual work involved, but I can't seem to overcome my obstacle of being terrible at the physical facets.
Hey there, Jacob. No worries... that's one you can train for! I recommend beginning with like a Couch to 5K kind of program and for the strength part, I really like the Marc's 30 day ab, squat and push-up challenge. You can google both! You got this!
As someone has already mentioned, active duty has both guaranteed jobs and open contracts. I went in as an open mechanic which basically meant I'm guaranteed a job from the mechanical field. Week 4 of boot camp (it's been 15yrs so my memory is probably a bit off) those with non guaranteed jobs go to choose a job. You pick 8 jobs, putting them from your favorite to your least favorite. Week 7 of boot camp is when you find out what job you got. I got my #1 choice. Most ppl got one of their top 3 choices
3:47 I actually enlisted in summer, then waited a few months till I got a call from my recruiter with my AFSC and shipping date.
Got picked up for 1N131 and I'm leaving for basic training next week!
This is the job I leave for next month! Any info or advice you can share from your experience so far?
Hi there! I understand that the minimum commitment is 6 years when you first enlist. However, when you made your transition to an officer, was the original contract voided and a new one created to accommodate the change? (ie Were you required to restart the whole 6 year commitment as an officer?)
Thank you for your service, the awesome video, and for any info you could offer in advance!
You should make more Air Force videos. Great content informative and people are hungry for the information.
Thank you. I can try - it's a busy lifestyle, that's for sure! What would you want to know?
Aunie Sauce Prior service marine trying to go Air Force guard/reserves. What are the major differences?
congratulations. I did this back with the NJANG. My father enlisted in NJANG in 1948, he was civil service all that time in aircraft maintenance. In 1964 he received his commission. He eventually become commandeer of maintenance in 177th and also 170th air guard units. He retired. as a full Colonel.. In 1973 I enlisted while I was in college, he swore me in. A few years later I received my commission, and he swore me in as an off
That is so awesome. I love the family heritage. Thanks for all you do and for the many, many years your dad dedicated. How awesome!
*you are SO beautiful both inside and out!! Great, helpful video, makes me want to join now haha!! You're so well spoken, calm, and lovely and sweet. You seem too nice to be an Officer? I find it humorous how a military job includes so much "hurry up and waiting". and this video was great!!* so happy for you! :)
Thank you Veni! And no way, there are plenty of nice officers out there. Thanks for your comment!
I would like to join after my degree in Biology at my junction of undergraduate and Medical School. Does ANG help pay for schooling and how does doctorate specific fields work?
Nice, that sounds like a good plan! They do pay for schooling. You have to put in a certain amount of time before everything is fully paid for OR deploy. You'd have to talk with a recruiter how to work out a doctorate program. Most units have flexible requirements for when you can/cannot be there.
Thank you for the information. Is the Air Guard Basic Training the same as Air Force Basic Training?
Kyle Gott sent me! Excited to see more videos from a female perspective about the Air national guard.
Thank you for your insight, I was Coast Guard for 4 years honorably discharged but with an RE4 code...become a contractor with the Navy for 10 years, got my re-enlistment code overturned and have been working with a recruiter and am headed to MEPs in 2 days...looking forward to the new adventure and more importantly serving again. Thanks again! And congrats on your achievements,
Hello! I was doing some research into the Air National Guard and stumbled upon your video. I am currently enlisted in the Army National Guard and have a little over a year left on my contract. I am weighing my options for my future and was wondering if you knew of the process (if there is one) to commission from prior service. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated and thanks for your time!
Hey there Nicholas. Thanks for your comment! The way I describe it in this video is exactly how you do it. You have to find a job and interview for it with a resume just like any civilian job. If you're considering going to the Air Guard, you'll need to start talking to a local recruiter about switching over and also keep your eye on any open commissioning spots so you can begin to interview. Watch my video again or read my commissioning posts on my blog here: www.auniesauce.com/search/label/Commissioning
OMG. This video helped me out A LOT. I'm Guard and I'm currently at technical training. I always assumed I would have to reenlist after my first 6 year contract to become an officer. Do you know if you can apply for officer positions at other guard bases? Thanks in advance :)
Hey there Andy! So glad I could help!! You can apply at other guard bases. Keep an eye on USA jobs :)
Is there a waiting period like active duty from enlisted to officer? Do I have to fullfill my entire contract until I can become an officer or can I get selected as an officer like half way through my enlistment contract?
You can get selected at anytime. I was 2.5 years into my initial enlistment when I was selected. The big difference if you're in the Air Guard is that if you enlisted into a field with a bonus and then leave midway through your contract, you may have to pay some of that back. All up to you.
Hi Aunie!
How old were you when you joined? I'm 27 and working on the process now. I'm really excited! Also, can you not be pregnant or start a family while in ANG?
Hi! I was 27 when I joined too. You cannot be pregnant when you join but you can start a family after you return from training. Getting pregnant between when you join and attend BMT can make you wait for too long and you risk separation if you don't go within a year of joining, so it's best to start a family either before or after joining.
I am currently in the US Army, active duty, and I am a 15E (UAS/Drone Repairer). I will be getting out in a few years and I was hoping to go Air Nation Guard so I can continue to serve part time. What are the chances of this happening? Does the ANG take a lot of prior service or no? Any info is appreciated.
Hey Rob. Oh Yeah, it's super easy to come over after your active duty commitment. I recommend starting the process before you separate. It's easier if there's no break in service.
I have my college degree and want to eventually comission..how long do you recommend until I turn in my package? I just started tech school..do you think I'll have enough experience within two years? I also want to get my Masters eventually
Hello! Are you active or Guard? That makes a difference. I had enough experience with 3!
how hard would it be to switch from Air guard to active duty? I would like to finish my undergrad and possibly law school while in the Air guard but then would be looking for a conditional release to go active. How feasible is that plan?
Also thid video really helped, you should make some more. Not many people talk about the air guard on youtube and this was the best info I had ever recieved.
Hey there! It's not too bad, you just have to work with your Air Guard and Active Duty recruiters to get it done. It's not unfeasible at all, just might take some work. And thank you very much for your compliment! I'll make more if I can find the time :)
What tips do you have on getting your push-ups & sit-ups ready for the PT test? I know basic training definitely trains you for it but I'd like to be in better shape before I go. I leave this summer.
You bet! Check out my blog for my PT tips here: www.auniesauce.com/2015/06/af-pt-test-2015.html
Please upload more video about the air national guard I’m extremely interested and would love more information.
Please visit my blog -- that might help. I still upload there at www.auniesauce.com
I'm an active duty airman right now 2a3x3, I test for staff right before separating but I'm considering going into the palace chase program with the end goal of finishing my degree and commissioning. I'd like to know if you can share any details about the exact process of the movement from enlisted to officer in the guard, is it really as simple as applying for a position and then going to OTS? Also what is the minimum commitment for an officer in the ANG?
Hi Garrett! You've got some great options which is nice. Read this... this is how it went for me: www.auniesauce.com/2017/10/my-interview-process-to-become-officer.html. The commitment is often 6 years.
So I fractured my tibia a few years back and it gives my knees a popping sound and I can push myself up to 2 miles but do you think I could still join?, even the reserves. I want to do something in the cyber field, I could do some physical therapy to strength it but any tips or anything to look out for thanks :)
Kati Matos hi Kati! It truly depends on how you do at your MEPS initial physical. If you can pass the PT requirements and the physicians at MEPS pass you, you'll be good! All careers need to have battle-ready airmen, so as long as you maintain your conditioning you'll be OK. I recommend reaching out to a recruiter to get your ASVAB and MEPS physical scheduled. It's free and will be your starting point!
So I feel like I’m not doing anything with my life after dropping out of college. I’d like to get back in, or get it paid by some military way. Coincidentally your video was the first video I just saw. And I also live in boise! Anyways do you think it’s a good recommendation if I’m trying to get into the computer science field?
Hi there. I hope it was helpful for you. You should come visit our recruiting office, they'd love to help you out! 208.484.8707 :)
Would you still recommend someone who isn't that much of a people person to still join the ANG?
Not that I have trouble working with people but maybe mild anxiety or shyness. I don't have issues with doing group activities necessarily but I feel like I need further explanation of typical life or what type of socialization you deal with other than training/yelling from officers etc.
Does anyone or have you seen anyone jusy keep mostly to themselves except when they are in training/group activities tyoical stuff? Sorry if this is long
Hey there. So, thank you for your comment because it's unlike most that I get. First, I think joining the ANG could be great... it could possibly help with the anxiety and/or shyness. That being said, BMT/OTS are such small snippets in your entire career, and there's really not that much yelling. Yes, sometimes people keep to themselves, and BMT and/or field living would be the closest you'd actually have to be with other, living in open bays with them for 8-weeks. During tech school, you'll share a dorm with at least one other person, which is manageable. At your home station, much of the work you do, especially as an airman, will be group work. I work together with one other person, if not 3-4, on almost everything I do. It depends on the job you go into, of course, but as long as your personable and friendly, you shouldn't have any trouble. I don't usually hang out with my colleagues after work, and there's no expectation to. We go to work, do our jobs, and then go home to our lives. It's very similar to working in a civilian job, if you've had/have one. BMT/tech school is kind of like high school. You get through it. I hope this helps!
I’ve also worked in the medical field for a long time looking for another career but I am just investigating! I also wanted to know if you have any tips for basic training, I am working on my fitness now :)
Totally do! I have a bunch of posts on my blog about them at www.auniesauce.com. Just search basic training (or use the tag on the righthand side) and they'll pull up :)
I am a junior in college with just over 60 credits. Will I be able to enlist as an Airman First Class? Thanks for sharing your personal experience. I've been doing a lot of research making sure Air Guard is something I want to do and the more perspectives I read/hear help me. Btw I'm a psychology major/social work minor, if you know if that could help me in a certain career through the ANG? Thanks again.
Hey Matthew! Great question. It all depends on what your local base determines. Some bases require the completion of a college degree to enlist as an A1C, but not all. I recommend contacting a recruiter in your area through goang.com and they'll be able to let you know. So what I also love about the Guard is that you can pick a career that is totally different than your background. My degree is in Health Promotion and I do Security Forces with the ANG. You could look into being a chaplain's assistant or going into family support or even personnel if you wanted to stay close to your degree :)
I get bad cramps. How do you feel with your period at basic training? & when you’re out in duty?
I’m one of the ones who didn’t have it there. You don’t really have an option except to push through. If you’re working fulltime and need a sick day, that’s one thing. But you don’t get that luxury in training.
I am currently enlisted in the Army National Guard and my ETS is coming up in one year and I was wanting to switch service branches and also try for commissioning as well. I already have 2 degrees. I wasn't sure when I should start the process for switching over and if I can go straight from army NG to Air NG with a commissioning or if I switch and continue my enlisted MOS.
Could you go more in depth about what Air NG OCS consisted of and how long it is?
Hi there, Katherine. Thanks for your email! Good questions... that's something that you'll want to contact your local Air Guard recruiter about and start working on ASAP. It takes time for the paperwork to go through so reach out to them soon. It's typically very hard to come over and commission directly, you have to apply for jobs with a resume and an interview just as you would for a civilian job. So also start looking for openings in the area if that's your plan. I have a whole post about OTS and you can check it out here: www.auniesauce.com/2016/06/air-force-officer-training-school.html
Can you do a makeup look for when you are in uniform ?? Please, and any additional tips for what to bring to basic training?
I have a basic makeup tutorial on my channel - it's similar to what I wear when in uniform (minus the winged liner). I hope you'll like it!! If you read my blog AunieSauce.com, I have a complete and detailed post on what to bring to BMT. Hope you'll check it out!
3:38 , I enlisted active duty knowing my AFSC before going to basic training, the only people who don't find out their AFSC until BMT are the people who sign for an "Open" contract. Just so nobody is confused. Almost everyone I have met so far signed their contract knowing their job.
And the award for Most Well Spoken Officer goes to....They need to put her in Broadcasting! Great job!
You're so nice, GS Wade! Thank you so so so much. This comment made my day!
Aunie Sauce You welcome Mrs.Rowe. I enjoy all of your content and encourage you to keep it up!Thank you and Mr. Rowe for your service!!!
