Light sabers aren't just weapons but tools. The light saber, regardless of the wielder being a Jedi or Sith, allows for the conservation of the force within. Obviously using things like lightning, push, telekeniesis, etc all drains a force user of useable concentrated force abilities not unlike Mana in many fantasy games.

Even a powerful force user needs to pace himself when fighting off multiple opponents, and while Force Lightning can take out a lot of weaker enemies at once, wielding a lightsaber against someone who doesn't have appropriate defenses (Beskar Armor, Cortosis enforced vibroblade, Light saber) is basically an effortless dispatch even for someone with little experience wielding it

I always figured it was as much religious tradition as anything. I think a Jedi would be much more deadly combining their force abilities with being more equipped like a Mandalorian. Badass armor and tons of firepower. But I think having so much aggressive offensive capabilities and AOE damage goes against the Jedi teachings of self desipline. For the Sith, maybe they just use the lightsaber because of Sith traditionalism? Thats the in universe answer anyways. The out of universe answer is that people just like to see laser sword fights.

I was chatting to a friend about this exact subject a while ago. I would have liked to have seen Yoda and Sidius have a full on force fight. No sabers. Two full on space wizards going at it. Same with when Mace Windu tries to arrest Papltine. Pappy should have used lots of exotic force powers and drubbed the lot of them. I think Darth Maul's last appearance in the clone wars was also an example of why a dark side user isn't as reliant on a light saber as opposed to the jedi, when Ahsoka let him go at the advent of order 66, he single handedly slaughtered squadrons of clone troopers that got in his way and crashed the Venator using only telekinesis and his martial arts skills

Against weaker Force users one can certainly get away with using only the Force. But against a powerful Jedi one has to defend one's self. And even then, the Force is a powerful complement to excellent blade work as amply demonstrated by Dooku.

Can you do a video about showing the similarities between Jedi and Daoism, please?

    • @42Mrgreenman
      @42Mrgreenman 3 роки тому

@The Journey I thought Lucas originally designed the Jedi after the Samurai? While Daoism has had many influences on the Zen Buddhism most samurai practiced, they are different approaches I think we can actually see reflected in the characters.
Obi-wan would be more of a Zen type, seeking to understand the force through silent meditation and rigorous training, I can see him reciting Koan's very easily, while someone like Kit-fisto would be more Daoist. Happy-go-lucky, artistic, humorous, and more concerned with the "Flow" of the force than a kind of spiritual connection...
George did 6 movies and the Jedi of the prequels seem to me more dogmatic than moral absolutist, too Zen serious and not enough Tao humorous...but they'll still use mind tricks and deception, I'd say they had become very rigid in the dichotomy of force energy, it's light or dark and never the two shall meet, not very Daoist or Zen and it does give me that religious crusader "Good and evil" vibe so you're not wrong...also when Lucas made the original trilogy, Japanese and eastern culture in general was not nearly as prevalent and was still kind of seen as a novelty up until the anime boom of the late 80-90's. (See, The Vapors - Turning Japanese and Aneka - Japanese Boy, hell I'll throw in a Blue Oyster Cult - Godzilla) So a bit of westernizing I'm sure occurred...Just my 2 cents...

6:55, Oddly enough, in The Clone Wars, Dooku is shown in a situation where he behaves as though even his power can save him when he is surrounded by Hondo Onakas pirates on Florrum, despite initially preparing to use Force Lightning (though an argument can be made he could also be prepared to use Telekinesis or Energy Negation, or rather “Tutaminis”/Force Deflection, though he’s not demonstrated being strong enough to perform such a feat to the same degree of ease as someone like Yoda or Vader) against them. He ultimately surrenders and is imprisoned due to the sheer amount of blasters being aimed him from multiple angles, meaning he seemed at though he was not confident in his ability to repel or contend with that many people at once alone, at least not without major risk that one of their bolts wouldn’t successfully hit him or without exhausting himself by utilizing his power for such significant tasks and then being struck down by the remaining pirates.
On a practical level, Force Users are usually portrayed as requiring varying degrees of focus effort to use their powers depending on their natural potential and talent with the Force and their mental and emotional state as well as their willpower. At various points, these individuals are shown straining or distracted when performing significant enough tasks with the Force alone, such as Yoda slowing down and then gradually moving a collapsed column away from a defeated Anakin and Obi-Wan or Obi-Wan charging up a telekinetic shove with a loud grunt of pain as if exerting himself physically in a strenuous manner before releasing it at General Grevious to launch him into a high ceiling. Clone Wars, Rebels and even the sequel trilogy each have similar instances of such limitations, with a notable reoccurring example being Ahsoka, the Seventh Sister, and Rey each psionically holding onto escaping ships and ending up either being unable to perform any other task in the meantime or straight up being pulled towards the ships as if they are tethered to them by invisible fields of force that they are generating from their bodies, a plausible explanation for the use of gestures being such fields being generated by or channeled through the user’s hands, which would reasonably explain why both “Force Push”, a technique that can sometimes be so imprecise and indiscriminate that it can visibly displace air and other objects around it like a shockwave, and “Force Lightning” each come from the hand.)
Generally, it seems a lot easier and more reliable for these characters to channel the Force into amplifying their physical capabilities as it would require less intense concentration and effort, especially in terms of their telekinetic abilities (which permitting a Force User possesses enough power, would still require a good imagination (which is another reason for their use of gestures), mental and emotional focus as well as proper understanding of their environment and target to use effectively and precisely if the user wouldn’t want to cause unintended effects, especially collateral damage, something that can be difficult to do in particularly intense situations like combat)…telepathic abilities (which mainly work on the weakest of minds and wills and threaten to cause damage to those who resist if enough effort is put into trying affect or interact with them)….and their extra-sensory abilities (which could threaten to disrupt a user’s perception of their surroundings if their attention is drawn elsewhere, leaving them open to incoming dangers as they are busy trying to analyze and comprehend what they are sensing).
As such, the use of physical capabilities as well as melee combat and weapons appears to be a relatively safer and more readily available alternative to using the Force alone unless one is in the highest of tiers, such as Palpatine or Yoda, who have not just high levels of power, but the skill, focus, and willpower to use them the most effectively.

@@Reflection554 They do, they existed in some old star wars settings...tis what I said. Jedi I believe had them at one point but honestly, I think one of the biggest issues was the radiation given off by wearing a full on force field, at least in the star wars setting.

I mean, if we're arguing practicality, the primary weapon of a force user should be a compact fast firing slug thrower. A lightsaber ain't gonna do shit against an uzi as long as the bullets aren't coming in a straight line. Sheev was right that he didn't need lightsabers. His mistake was that he believed it was because of his super force abilities instead of the fact that there are simply better offensive weapons in existence.
Though I would say that keeping a lightsaber around for utility would still have been a good idea. Never know when you're going to need to cut something in half.

Won't ever do Facebook. EVER. I liked your explanation of this, but I'd be way more afraid of a Force user that didn't carry a weapon, than one who did. Both Yoda and Sideous were excellent Force users that showed no weapon; Dooku when challenged by Yoda fled when lightsabers weren't useful.

A Jedi might not NEED to use some other weapon, but it would at least be prudent. You may have to loan your blaster to an unarmed ally. Or to avoid screaming, "Jedi!" in some settings by using an enemy weapon. A thinking, powerful Jedi will live longer than one who is just powerful.

This video explains everything really good. It's true that jedi only used lightsabers for blaster deflecting before the return of the sith. You can see this very clearly if you know some rare character stories. For example, when Count Dooku was a jedi padawan and a knight later, Yoda, who was his "master" for some time, saw his fighting style as too aggressive and dangerous to other jedi. Dooku's lightsaber combat style is Makashi, which is most useful when duelling other lightsaber-using individuals. No wonder jedi didn't really understand him - there were no enemies with lightsabers (except dark jedi) for almost 1000 years. Also this explains perfectly why even lot of jedi masters were afraid of Dooku and Grievous - they just weren't prepared for battling real enemies.

The Jedi/Sith skill tree reminds me of when I played Dragon Age back in the day. I played as a mage because why wouldn't you and it was fine but like Jedi you had to work quite a bit more to take people out. So naturally despite everyone constantly saying how evil it was, I got Blood Mage the moment it was available and it was glorious.

Yes and no , they do not need to use the light saber. The light saber is just a extension that benefit more from a force user using them. As a tool against other force user's , non-force user's and as a tool . It is useful in that roll as a back up weapon if ever need to be use. Also it tool impressive on the screen as a weapon or in fights. In theory base on the era for the jedi/sith that they fight. They can rely on the force and the common weapons of the day such as vibro swords or etc before the proto-light saber was made. Weapons such as the sith warblade or etc were as equally effective agaist force power's use base on how truthful old cannon lore is to be on par as a light saber is a weapon or tool minus what you can with a light saber that a non-energy blade can't do for a force user.

What if Rey was trained from a youngling at the Jedi temple she is ridiculously powerful for the extremely limited training she received, we were told that Jedi had to be trained from a young age and it took years to begin to use it but in a year of Rey discovering that she had the force she killed the most powerful being in the galaxy so what would happen if she trained from a youngling?

If your opponent is just as strong as you in the force, or just strong enough to resist the worst of your effects, you'll wish you had a sidearm of some sort. I suggest carrying a lightsbaber, and a little holdout slugthrower, even if you are a Dark Lord of the Sith.
