  • 👉This is the Postural Restoration Institute's Hruska Adduction Lift Test,
    👉 it is a test used by PRI providers to test an individual's ability to integrate their pelvis and ribcage on the left side, and inhibit their left AIC and right BC patterns.
    👉The difficulty is because the left side is the non-dominant side and thus we overuse the right side of our body. This is more a brain issue than it is the body.

    Love your work man. I’ve been watching and experimenting with PRI for a while and it’s soo god damn complex. Worth me flying all the way to the US to learn it I think. Would be great if there were more practicing it in Europe

      It is complex, but PRI isn't necessarily complex: the brain is complex. PRI just explains how an asymmetric brain and body respond to the demands of gravity. If physical therapists and other professions started from the premise that humans are asymmetrical and that "sensory precedes motor", it isn't difficult at all (except when the cranium is involved)

    Thanks for all the content you put out. I finally saw someone with enough pri experience to help me. I seem to be all the rare things but Alpine pt in Seattle is in my corner now.     Hi Neal,
    I've seen your videos where you modify how an overhead press is done to be more PRI friendly.
    I would gain a lot of value and I believe many others would too, from a series where you modify other popular exercises to be more PRI friendly.
    I think it could really be a hit for your UA-cam channel.

    Could you do a video about hypermobility? I went to the PRI pelvic restoration course and they always made exceptions for hypermobile people.

      It’s complicated to treat, but the big picture is this: they tend to be in an “ungrounded” state, and thus have major instability in their pelvis, so they become obligatory neck and back breathers since the pelvic floor can’t synchronize with the respiratory diaphragms. They also become completely reliant on their hip flexors and lower back to stabilize their pelvis. This all needs to be unwound.

      How would you know if you have ligament laxity in your hips? My pelvis is rotated to the right but my legs have muscle dystrophied along with my glutes. My left side of my pelvis feels unstable and its hard to walk and balance
      Does this mean my ligament are torn and loose because it also has affexted my tibias and foot arches both fall inwards​@@NealHallinan

    I am doing a PRI program with a good coach and it helps a lot. Still, your explanations make the excercises we do work even better. I honestly feel immediate relieve, after implementing your cues. Really good teacher.

      Teaching us that Pri is very hard and not to do it with out a practitioner. Unfortunately not everyone has that luxury and/or ability. Some of us have to be more courageous than others.

      Pri is Great though it is not the only way for all. Great Understanding and way to put in context. Their methods are drawn out in my opinion for lucrative purposes. This channel if you listen. He tells you that you need pri. We need the techniques and a competent guide. We do not need understand pri at a fundamental level in order to benefit from its technicians techniques if walked through properly. For many it can be info overload. It's about the individual and how far they need to go to function

      My opinion is right for me in my walk. I do realize that in your experience that may not equate the same. I do not believe that one can state that Pri is drawn out and apply it Universally in all aspects across the board. For my Understanding I suspect and question All to make a better measure for future way finding.

    Hey Neal, I was curious, do you find that you still have to wear your splint regularly in order to keep yourself out of the patterns? Every night when you sleep, during exercises daily/weekly, etc. Also, how have you managed to eat and chew without issues over the years? How has your jaw been able to adapt without having to actually correct your malocclusion? I ask because I also have a very compressed/‘torsioned’ cranium on the right side. Thank you!

      there is also a centre of gravity, space and connective tissue behavior that PRI does not discuss unfortunately
      when he says its sensory he is actually talking about connective tissue behavior

      how a lateral tilt / left AIC changes your centre of gravity
      Imagine you standing in a river and the current is trying to knock you off your feet to the right.
      to stay stay balanced your body turns INTO the current
      thats the upper body counter rotation, the current is actually coming from the left hip
      your centre of gravity is to the right and forward
      so right foot lead split squats pushing back and to the left in a diagonal
      right to left sled drags, backwards sled drags using left leg only
      lateral step ups - right to left
      left leg split squat with a hip shift pushing the left hip backwards
      are some ways to overcome this, but there is more than 1 kind of lateral tilt

    Hey, thank you for all your content, it helped me realize what's going on with my muscles. Now I'm on my way to get a splint in the first place becouse of a missing molar and bad jaw position.
    I would like to ask you a question about your try with Invisalign. You mentioned on another video that you stopped using it. It was after splint therapy? Did you know then whether your jaw was in the right position during 3d scans for aligners?

      The failed attempt at Invisalign was in 2020. I couldn't take the pressure of the trays on the upper teeth. It happens.

    Neal, excellent video. Do you feel that if you were to do extension based movements - such as the powerlifts - that you'd regress in your ability to lateralize/feel grounded in your left at a certain intensity? Or would you just fail a lift when it got too heavy but not feel compromised?

      Good question. I really don’t know. I stay away from bi-lateral extension exercises because I see no point in doing them; there is nothing in my life that requires them. I can maintain all the strength I need through uni-lateral training. If I did do them, my back probably wouldn’t feel great because of my cranial-torsion history.

    Wow, I tried to test this by myself and it was exactly the same for me. I have been told that I was askew, but never really what to do other than "exercise". I haven't been able to find practictioners where I live. I am doing Conor Harris' exercises. Do you have any recommendations for maybe online courses?

    Interesting test! I thought I was doing well since I have been able to restore my shoulder mobility, got rid of rib flare and restored left ZoA, but I still couldn't really do this test successfully. The left knee I could lift easily but not the upper body at all. I have already gotten a lot of help from PRI but looks like I still have ways to go.
    edit. After putting on my shoes I could do it somewhat well, probably not perfectly but at least I could get myself up from the floor! Goes to show how important the feet are.

      @@airmat9 Walking in the shoes probably put my body in the correct position. It's not like I put on the shoes while lying there and redid the test immediately without standing up.

      There is a possibility that putting on the shoes, even without walking first, could help the test. If your brain feels your right arch and left heel because the shoes are on, it may inhibit overactive muscles. I do it with people all the time to show how their testing changes (inhibition) just be squeezing their heel or stroking the arch of their right foot.

      side plank variations my friend.
      best way to calm down the neck immediatly
      make your arm straight, so the arm makes a straight line towards the neck
      many combinations are possible so experiment

    Realizing just how many of my issues come from the brain or CNS dysfunction is disheartening. It feels like an impossible mountain to begin rewiring my brain to allow my body to relax into its natural positions. But your content is a light in the darkness!

      Keep in mind, it's always the brain and it's always the nervous system. That's all we have. Even general exercise is working at the level of the brain, although it isn't recognized as such.

    Hello Neal, how are you? I've been a follower of your channel since you were little, I've watched all your videos and I know your story, thank you! In the vast majority of cases, the right hip has more internal rotation, but for years I have been trying to find out why my right hip does not have internal rotation. The sensation is of a collision of the femur with the acetabulum, it seems as if the bone is already there and there is no way to go further if it is already there. Is there any possible explanation for this? I have suffered lower back pain for 15 years. I forgot to mention that I believe the root cause of all my issues was having my wisdom teeth removed on the right side first, followed by the left side 15 years later. It seems this sequence may have disrupted everything.
    I have an X-ray of my bite before removing the teeth on the left side if you'd like to see. After their removal, the pain improved by 90%.

    i can do it on both sides without any afford wich wonders me. But I worked alot on my maxilla,sphenoid,occiput to get the rotation out of head..since I decompromissed my maxilla and opend up alot of the foramens for the nerves my pelvis unlocked and I can load my right now. I was wierd before,,,standing leg was left not right as most poeple are..now its changig to the right and my body feels a little better alrady

    when he says its sensory he is actually talking about connective tissue behavior
    the position of joints actually changes how muscles behave
    you can take advantage of this by say using a heel elevation AKA squat wedge
    during a squat and see how you feel
    you will be amaZed
    and they are easy to make yourself if your handy

      CT contributes a great deal to posture and positional awareness, but when Neil says sensory he means sensory! - you feel the correct body part for breathing and walking or you do reps trying to strengthen parts already overused; you see a part of your environment and ground or you don’t, resulting in ungrounded limited patterned movement.

      you can't separate connective tissue from sensing, the connective tissue is absolutely loaded with mechanoreceptors one of its key functions is sensing pressure
      the connective tissue itself has its very own behavior that should be appreciated.
      it can be in states of yielding, overcoming, concentric or eccentric orientation and even combinations.
      understanding how/why it behaves in practice can make your PRI activities much more effective.
      what does "grounded" even mean?
      its pressure! guess how you manipulate connective tissue behaviors?
      mainly pressure in various forms such as rate of loading, structural geometry, angles and direction of forces, load, breathing etc
      by simply using a heel elevation during a squat you can get a much different response from the connective tissue they will be able to yield more.
      and it does not depend on your awareness or the muscles. The CT can sense even when you don't conciously

      and it does not depend on your awareness or the muscles.
      (although that helps ALOT)

      @@Drunkbobnopantssso where do i get started? My centre of mass feels forward when standing knees are locked (mainly right surprisingly?) quads activated, i don’t feel hamstrings on left leg? Neal says what he teaches are techniques not exercises and are only to teach awareness in an easier position and then you supposedly have to work with someone competent enough to guide you to bring that awareness in other positions like standing? I haven’t got access to that so will these elevated squats put me onto the right path? Many thanks

      @@RushyJamwell you see some of the tests neil does
      hes measuring hip abduction, extension, straight leg raise, hip external and internal rotation. doing these and learning what they mean can be a really useful guide, especially the last 3
      PRI kind of assumes everyone is the same and thats not really true
      there is more than 1 kind of lateral tilt
      i can get back to with some links on some alternatives to PRI you can do yourself
      would you say you have a wider flatter frame or a narrower rounder
      bone structure?
      that will affect how you should approach this and links i should give

    Does this affect his ability to walk toe to heel im a straight line?
    Also if standing one foot on a stair can he swing the other foot forward back and out?

    Your videos are great and helpfull. If I just could find out what "BC Pattern" and "AIC Pattern" means. So many use of this acronyms. And on your site I found a bit information, but not what AIC stands for. Shure no problem for insiders of the subject, but for me as new to it, is is confusing.

      You just have to get familiar with the Postural Restoration Institute defined patterns. There are really just six, and taken together they indicate whether someone is on their right side (left AIC right BC right TMCC) or left side.

      there is something in Canberra called "restore muscle therapy / soft tissue therapy " who have a youtube channel - they have some videos about the left AIC pattern and PEC pattern. this is the only thing I've found.

    Okay so… I have a right torsion of the head (and a bit of a left side bend with rotation). My head thus points to the right.
    And my right side of the ribcage is compressed. The right hip pops out.
    However I also have my hips pointing to the left.
    That wouldn’t be the normal stance right?

      It's the same pattern underneath, but a torsion of the cranium can make things look backwards. I was also a torsion.

    What does it mean when i move my right eye to the limit towards the side, all of the tension goes away and my ground returns ? I can't do it anymore for some reason

      It could be that when you move your eyes to the right, your body moves left (which does happen to a degree) and thus you ground yourself a bit better on the left.

    Hi Neil, I’ve got a question. Went to a chiropractor for LBP and was told I had left lumbar and hip compression and that my right femur is shorter.. and I would need a heel lift. How do I confirm the femur commentary

      I started PT with them, been in about 3 weeks. But how do I know I’m not getting scammed (ish) in needing a lift? Because if my hips are rotated and my muscles are tight, how can he meaure the correct way prior to starting treatment

    Neal. I’m getting quite desperate. How can I organise a call with someone who can send me in right direction.
    Prosthledontists, eyes, Physio, everything. I can barely walk anymore. I’m under 40 who used to be a pro athlete. Lost all finances, potential family and all.
    I’ve had multiple head traumas and strong.
    I’m really struggling and prepared to travel.

      Same thing here. I've got everything Neal describes. I've been to an optician and my eyes are great, yet I still can't see properly. I have visual snow and tinnitus in the right ear. I can barely walk, I feel dizzy. The right side of my neck is tight. I feel like I'm in a dream, my memory is impaired and I can't focus.
      I know i need pri but can't figure out where the imbalance is coming from

    Theory is good, you don't like to post techniques often? you say there are so many other things that can be going on. Yes, and that can deflate what you have just inspired and giving hope to feel better. Maybe, start with the first technique to diagnose, then continue with techniques to let us try and figure out how to put it together and what works.
    Can't see a doctor to fix issues that's why we are on u tube. They don't know or teach and have the passion without a dollar agenda as you do.
    Been there did that. Your here to teach? Right?
    That's why we are all watching you videos. Having condensed information without making it too confusing would allow us to do for ourselves. Techniques to try, self help, self care.
    No one knows my body like I do.

      I have 300 videos about this subject. There is no technique to diagnose. There is nothing to diagnose. I show tests all the time. And I have videos that do show some techniques.

      PRI people love to gatekeep their “magic” exercises cause it’s all about the money lol. I should know as someone who has been a PRI patient for 3 years and even gotten glasses and a splint from the PRI clinic. They want to you come in for an endless string a visits and it’s always just one more technique or visit that is magically going to fix it

    So, basically it's useless. I'm in Italy. No PRI. I did your exercises thev90 90 and the glute etc. was helpful. Then I got sick and stopped. I can return to those exercises, but from what I hear you say in this video all I'm doing is keeping my head above water. Not very helpful. What are people like me supposed to do?
    In spite of having grown up in a medical family, I no longer trust mainstream medicine. Homeopathy is absurd. It seems to me that not a lot if health care practitioners know what they're doing.
    What's the solution?
    After listening to this it seems there isn't one.😢

    You are very assuming about the people who are watching with out valid positive proof of what you are claiming. Yes I hear what you are saying about the vid and the hinderences and possibilites what is problematic. To dumb your viewers down I don't believe is a normal standard. I get that pri like any other mode can be manipulated to be stretched out for lucrative purpose. Not saying that is the case here. We should all continually question the methods we use to further make gains if and when possible. Just cause someone might or might have be educated or not has no bearing on real World Experience.
