- When Abhishek Agrawal came to Singapore from India in 2011, he faced every immigrant's challenge of fitting into the local culture. Then he decided to reach out by volunteering, and taking up lessons in Mandarin - and it changed his life in Singapore.
From singing Teresa Teng songs at karaoke, to forming friendships with hawkers and his Singaporean Chinese landlord, he found himself making deeper connections. He also co-founded a biomedical start-up, Kinexcs, which is in talks with local hospitals to launch a remote-monitoring device that could bring hope to knee surgery patients.

Bless this guy..He has a heart to give back to Singapore community
1:52 It's saddening to know that Singaporeans are still blatently racist and this is still accepted as the norm. This is something that has to change for us to become a more inclusive and equal society, which we're not, paying the pledge just lip service.
deegee1177 and sooooo that makes it okay??? Failed argument buddy. Racism is wrong no matter where you are, where you’re from! Just because other countries have racism too, that doesn’t make it okay for us to have racism, it doesn’t make us any better.
Abhi is an excellent model of integration. Not only he posesses the will to learn while improving his skills but he also contributes to the technological advancements of his host country as an engineer. This is the type of 'foreigners' that are welcomed anywhere in the world.
i think he speak better mandarin than some chinese singaporean lol...
They just speak broken English now
@Heather Larson Yes, knowing chinese is deemed an advantage in job interviews nowadays...
The government had no choice in this matter, it was either to use English as the working language to unite and be fair to all races or to remain racially segregated and fucked up like Malaysia.
True
Because china is going to take over the world by overpopulating.
A man with a heart I hope he success in his career and continue to support the community
And then on the other hand we have Singaporeans that complaint about having too much foreign talents 🌚🔫 oh pls don't complaint look at how much effort he put in. He came alone and build what he wanted to be.
ThatAsianDudeWhoVlogs? Complain*
He has a fantastic attitude!
Yep! His openness and positive attitude does it, not that he speaks mandarin.
That is impressive to know 3 languages
Kinda normal for a malaysian who are Chinese or Indian who learnt their national language, english n their native tongue
Before we can make America great again we first have to catch up with India!
And, in India it is to normal to know 3 languages, Western, South, Eastern & South Eastern part of India, people knows more than 5 or 6 languages...
More than that, knowing 3 unrelated language groups!
He works hard and has a positive towards other cultures and life in general. He is a real gem to Singapore.
What an excellent man. Such rarity nowadays.
What a wonderful guy !!!
He is exactly the new citizens we love to have in Singapore
You got talent, keep it up.
it an advantage to know more languages.
Would totally watch a sitcom of just Richard and Abhi bantering
He likes Teresa Teng. That's enough for me to like him too.

What's the easiest way to pick up Mandarin?
Mandarin is easy to learn! Give it a try!
Believe me, it's really not. I started learning at 7 and I can barely speak it.
@@endeliggnist5066 Hmmm... People are different. I started in college and did well learning it -- it helped that I spend decades in East Asia though.
Endelig Gnist it depends on each person. For some people it can take as little as 6 months to get at a conversational level. For others it could take 10 years just to learn a few words. It all depends in the mindset
his "sh-" pronunciation is exceptionally good sia
Did he mentioned caste?
this is good immigration! if only they all like you!
必须的,中文本来就是世界语言之一
Sure, when you go to Singapore you will learn their language but when you come to South India you expect us to learn your language.
The problem with you is that you think all North Indians are the same. If you had made an effort to know a little about your fellow countrymen, you wouldn't have made such an ignorant remark.
Abhishek is an Agrawal. That makes him a Marwadi. As far as I know, most Marwadis doing business across India, including those operating the kirana shops, speak the local language fluently, whether it is Telugu in Hyderabad or Tamil in Chennai. Marwadis are one of the most enterprising communities in India, and Abhishek is a case in point. He is just doing what a Marwadi would have done anywhere in the world.
Now that's settled, you have a more important question to ask yourself. Are you or members of your own community as adaptable as Abhishek? My guess would be NO.
That's tolerance...
Why only mandarin not othe language
Mandarin is the most spoken language if you count this as a first language.
@@vishnusahani2822 agreed but it largest language thanks to the size of China
@@yangerek78Look at Chinese economy .
@@vishnusahani2822 2nd?
👍🏻
how ironic!, most chinese singaporeans dont even speak mandarin!
Good for Indians. The chinese should learn.. yet chinese nowadays decided to just terminate their culture, surname, their generations, their identity especially chinese women.
His mandarin is better than most Chinese singaporeans lol
life sucks
Lepas tu satu Singapore masuk Islam
