Corsair VS 550 (2019) teardown and review. (Honest Review)
Here are my Personal Favorite Powersupplies for Computer
Antec VP450P (for Low Budget Users)
CoolerMaster MWE 550 V2 80+ White (Value for Money)
Corsair CX550 80+ Bronze (Cool dude users..)
Coolermaster MWE 750 Gold (Multiple GPU Users + Overclockers on tight Budget)
Deepcool DQ750 80+ Gold (My Personal Favorite all rounder)
here are additional information about this PSU...
1. Capacitors
Corsair VS 550 (2019) is using all Capacitors from Taiwan brand, Teapo specifically SC series rated at 105 degrees Celsius (SC series have average life of 3000 Hours at max rated temperature) while main Primary capacitor is from TC series by Teapo (expected life is 2500 hours at 85C).. they are not that great but still will do the job just fine....
2. Inductors
Corsair VS 550 (2019) is using Toroidal Iron powder core Inductors.. while PFC Inductor was on Ferrite Core Toroidal core Inductor.. I suspected VS550 PFC coil to produce Electromagnetic Interference because PFC coil gonna have to handle lots and lots of current.. as my experience and my experiments says.. that Inductor gonna emit Electromagnetic Noise..
3. Forward Topology
Corsair VS550 is using Dual forward Switch Topology.. which is good for efficiency, but due to high current switching.. MOSFets are prone to die and short out high current path and can result in blown up PSU.. so Proper Mosfets are required in this Topology.. but it is efficient only switching loss cause power loss..
4. Low Side Topology
Corsair VS550 is using BSDP(Barrier Shottky Diodes Packages) to Rectify DC and using Group Regulated 12V and 5V tied together and 3.3v Independent regulated Output Regulation.. which is very poor in maintaining Ripple-free stable voltage output...
That PSU have already Dead Diode package so, I cannot load test this PSU.. so sorry for that.

Corsair CX 550 any day.. they have High quality Japanese Capacitors... From manufacturer like (Nippon Chemicon)....
Yes If you can get Coolermaster MWE 750 Gold fully Modular then go for Coolermaster.. (if it is 80+ Gold).. because Gold MWE PSUs have Higher Quality Capacitors. Too. Yes they share same design (CX and MWE V2)

I use the same psu for 6 years now. Recently i hear mild noise from psu. Like chiiii.... I never open the psu or clean the fan before. Where the sound coming from? Is it the fan? Should i open it and clean it? Do psu capacitors make noise too?

I dont recomment going below 650 watt with RX6600XT, To be honest a 550 Watt PSU is enough.. but its a good practice to have some headroom for card to Boost. a 650 Watt PSU should be used... and i will never prefer anyone to buy Corsair CV or VS branded PSUs.. Minimum go for Corsair CX 650 or Coolermaster MWE 650 Bronze V2..

RTX 4070 kind of cards actually pull a lot in transient... I recommend using a Minimum 650 Watt PSU.

Just as a warning to anyone reading this, the large heatsink is held at -110 V DC, so don't get your bare hands anywhere near the inside of this PSU while it's plugged in.
No Not really, in this power supply, its a dual switch Forward design, and its headsink is actually connected to -ve Rail of RECTIFIED MAINS, SO TECHNICALLY ITS 0V, BUT we all know a fully crarged Bulk cap, can slap upto 25Jules at 400+ Volts. thats why i never recommend anyone to open their PSUs..
@@PCbolt17 I have no idea what any of that means, but when I touched mine, it sent a jolt through my body and the heatsink measures at -110 V DC relative to the shell (we have 240 V mains here)

Its True. and now i know the reason why you read -110v instead of 220 or 110 only... see the Bridge rectfier actually rectifies AC into DC. nd the ground after rectification is takes as -ve for the rest of circuit, so if you measure either + of capacitor relative to mains nutral, you read 50% of RMS value or 220/2 that is 110v IN BOTH sides,, and the peak goes upto 310Volts... so yes.. its never a good idea to plug a circuit when its open.,.

My two day old new pc shutdown today while running. Maine chalu kiya lekin chalu nai hua.. beech me kabhi kabhi light jalti hai fans ki but turant band hojata hai.. maine dusare pc ka power supply lagaya to chalu hogaya.. vahi iske vala power supply dusare me lagaya to vo bhi chalu nai hua.. mother board ka light jal raha tha but chalu nai hua.. mujhe lagta hai cpu section ka power psu se nai aaraha hai.. apko kya lagta hai? Usually Due to Bad grounding or may be your monitor is having some issues...

CX is good.. for reliability, but High overclocking me kabhi kabhi unstable ho jata hai.. bina overclocking ke CX use karo.. usme Protection features bahut achche hai..
Yesterday there was capacitor blast sound came from Corsair CV Series CV450 but it is working and it is in warranty .

Yes.. Capacitors are there to Supress ripples and Stabilise voltage.. without adequate Caps.. Holdup time can be poor, ripples can be high.. voltage may not be stable enough...

All of them works on DC-DC Circuit Designe.. means their Voltage On output is independent to load.. and do not changes.(a little change may appear at high load). at any load.
Then.. all of them have Soft Switching (LLC) Topology.. that makes them last longer than Normal Corsair VS, CV and other cheap Power supplies...
All of them (Expect Coolermaster)
They used Japanese Capacitors..
Coolermaster Used Quality Taiwanese Capacitors.. (I keep them equally)
All Units have Great Warrenty.. specially in India Coolermaster Provides good service in India...
Your PC have RTX 2080 super...
The thing is.. RTX cards Consumes Moderate power under fill load . Like 280-330 watts... But while card in boosting (shifting from Lower clocks to high clocks.. ) it can draw as much as 500 watts For 1-2 seconds.. that can trip most cheap PSUs.. (I know you didn't faced this issue.. but search online no one uses such low wattage PSUs on RTX (Turning or Ampere cards)
Go for 750 watts or more...
I like Coolermaster V750 Gold V2 too .
Best Design among all those units... Very reliable, Quality Build and components..

Both are on same Design Half Bridge Resonance LLC DC-DC Converter.. with Active Rectification... So both will serve you great..

Sir plz reply! Mera Corsair ka CX600 smps hai jisme sirf ek 270uf ka mfc laga hai pr jab mai gaming krta hu to voltage fluctuations ke wajah se pc restart ho jaata h, to kya mai ek aur 270uf ka capacitor add kar sakta hu main mfc capacitor ke saath kya koi side effect to nhi padega na??
No.. Actually Capacitor's ESR is very important.. AND adding big size capacitor may cause increase in inrush current, and can stress APFC Circuit.. i recommend you to just replace that 270Uf Cap with 300or 320uf Capacitor from Nippon-Chemicon.... will work just fine

I don't recommend to Repair any power supplies... If they have any problem.. just Replace them. If you have such issue as you mentioned.. I recommend you to Check your Whole PC.. before concluding PSU is faulty...

I have a VS 650 JUST INSTALLED RTX 2060 RUNNING GTAV ON LOW WORKING FINE AS SOON I TURN IT TO HIGHER SETTINGS IT STARTS REBOOTING.
As I said VS series PSU aren't Good enough.. their Output Voltage Become Unstable at higher load..
You can literally see the fluctuations via AIDA64 extreme (Application to test stability) and stress test CPU+ GPU...
You will find voltage drop on 12v rail..

You can search on UA-cam.. This VS series PSU isn't good enough to handle RTX 2060 at full load, you may see Random shutdowns, Freezes, Lower Clocks on your cards.. because RTX cards draws High current during Ramping up the Clock speeds.. so may be.. You can face problems.. or may be it can work fine..

No.. But ARGB Fan Expensive aata hai.. And If you have Money.. Why not buy new and better Corsair CX550F (5200 ki hai I guess Fully Modular and Quality zada better hai)...
Baki agar ARGB FAN already hai... To.. No issue... replace it's fan... simple kam te karo ke.. FAN ko power PSU ke andar fan connector se do.. and Only ARGB connector Bahar nikal lo..

There can be anything wrong with PSU.. from primary Controller Capacitor to.. Output capacitor.. I do not recommend to open or try to fix computer power supply.. because they are very very Complex and dangerous

There are around 15-20 capacitors in a PC powersupply.. and all should be of good Quality...
I have a tip for you.. get a power supply with DC-DC converter Circuit.. atleast..
Or get DC-DC LLC converter Power Supply..
And only Coolermaster MWE 550v2 Bronze is LLC DC-DC design PSU.. rest all PSUs are designed on older Dual forward Switch design.. which is not that reliable.

Try to change Primary Capacitor first.... And see if secondary capacitors are good...
But only choose Capacitor from Good brand.
