- These two so wowed Carson & Co that they were asked back just weeks after their debut. This time they got to perform two numbers, "Here I Am" and "She's Hot To Go". Francine wore a pretty dress that showed off her nice arms.
Francine and Lyle just kill it. Real music sung by stunning vocalists! Thanks so much for sharing this.
An honor to play with Francine Reed for many years! 💜
I can't believe that I never heard Lyle Lovett''s music until a couple of days ago. I'm in the middle of a deep dive and loving' it!
Lyle is in a class all on his own, a true innovative musical explorer.
It's give this two hundred thumbs up if I could
Lyle makes me crazy, every day, every time...oh, Lyle. Life is so uncertain. Indeed, Pandemic brought me here. Stay healthy.
That's great... Thanks
I have come a long way to this great point and right from the very beginning you my fan have been solidly there for me , it's been a landslide but we pull through together ... your love and support are amazing and I appreciate every little effort .. always believe in yourself to achieve your goals ... Have you been to my concert before ?
Francice is so great in this that the band loves what she's doin'! Check the band out and see how much they appreciate her singing starting at 3:39. They smiling and looking at her! Great stuff.
He used to call her his "foreground singer".
Miss Francine Reed is AMAZING in her own right! Just as everyone one of
Mr. Lovett's LARGE BAND member's are as well! Thirty years & still a HUGE fan!
She’s a treasure from Phoenix. Reade family is very talented.
I love watching the musicians in the background enjoying themselves..
I just discovered Francine Reed....OMG. A wonderful Sunday afternoon just listening to these amazing artists. Be well
When life rolls back to something 'normal', do yourself a BIG solid and head to Atlanta, to see her live. She will lay you right out like a religious experience.
Hello thanks for watching and commenting on my UA-cam channel ... Hope you don’t stop with your love and support ... Have you been to my concert before ??
I remember when this aired; I had never heard anything like it. Just PERFECTION. Love it so much.
Whenever I don't know what to listen to and don't want classical, I gravitate towards Lyle, who always picks the right accompanying musicians/vocalists. Never seen him live, but waiting for him to come to my area, hopefully with his Large Band. His songs always seem to match my mood.
Just saw him this week in Napa. If you can - see him. His shows are phenomonal. No auto tuning on his recordings - he's even better live. His acoustical shows are also worth seeing.
Lyle is my favorite. First saw him during this tour in a high school theater. Seen him around 8 times since. Always a great show. Between songs is just as entertaining!
Was fortunate to catch this tour and Francine. Lyle’s lyrical mastery of comedy, intellect, sarcasm, melancholy and sadness run the gamut like no other. His group and his own performances have always been Top Shelf.
Now I remember why I love Lyle Lovett! Just one like him, and that’s a good thing all round!
Understated brilliance and 'WTF?' wrapped in a song.
Lyle's hair, Francine's ... everything. So much going on here.
She was great, never heard her sing before. He is amazing!! I love all his songs and other people's songs when he sings them. He is not ugly, he's hot!!
Francine, just incredible. Great seeing the band on the Tonight Show -- I had never seen this clip!
Thanks for liking my aspiration and never giving up on my aspirations . How long have you been a fan ?
had the pleasure of meeting her in Denver sept 2018. Incredible nice person
I've seen Lyle Lovett a few times over the years and he always always put on a FANTASTIC show. The first time I saw him was at Mesa Amphitheater in Mesa, AZ. It was Lyle's birthday...so his wife....Julia Roberts...came out onstage and had the crowd sing him Happy Birthday! And watching this video I was blown away by how well the Tonight Show Band played for him. A year or two before this was recorded I had the honor of roadying for The Big Band Machine featuring Ed Shaungesey...so I got to set up the drums each night on tour for Ed. I have to say he was one of the nicest people I have ever met in the music business. Was sorry to see he passed on in 2013. :-(
What a beautiful voice and person, was fortunate to see the group the first of many times and incarnations in Memphis around this time. Leo Kottke opened and my newlywed wife said " this guy reminds of Leo K " about the time he was finished playing . Hey, we had other things on our mind while on our short stay ! What a show.
YES YES YES!! What a wonderful woman and voice, and a GREAT album, just came across it again!
Francine Reed.
You have outdone yourself.❤
A force of nature.
Two heavy weight talents right here.
This is iconic Lyle Lovett! Love, Kathi
That's great... Thanks

I saw this when it aired - loved it!
Should have loved the rockabilly swing/jazz of Lyle Lovett in the 1990s - but I love him now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely brilliant!!
Great voice ×2 I love this👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💞
That's great... Thanks

AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing this! Miss his Sept shows in the Alamo City.
They laid this out!!! This is my jam!!!
I saw them together just last night in Livermore. Can't get enough!!! Wow, Francine is a force of Nature!! And Lyle...genius. Where have I been???????
Thanks for liking my aspiration and never giving up on my aspirations . How long have you been a fan ?
Pedazo cantantes y la banda que les secunda 👌👍👏👏👏
I'm not sure why I checked out Lyle Lovett, but "Here I Am" was the first song I heard on the album. I was blown away - certainly wasn't mainstream.
One other comment. For those that don't know, The Tonight Show Band was like a group of masters. In these shots, they sort of look like jurors holding court.
I believe Francine & Lyle were found guilty.
Of being HOT!
Great upload.
watch as two of the 'masters' approve of reed's fine skatting at 5:55
Yes the great Miss Francine reed of Atlanta GA.. Love you Gurl and you are still one of my greatest Inspirations
Pia Mc Ghee sorry she is from Pembroke Illinois ❤️

SO smooth,so cool, SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!
Oh HELL yeah...
just had the pleasure of lunch with francine...
she's back in Phoenix !!!!
Love this so much!
Who the fuck put thumbs down??? Guessing they must be musical geniuses. Hey. Nope.
Oh, from what I hear from these thumbs-downers, when they leave comments, is that they're scornful of the fact that I wasn't recording in HD 30 years ago instead of VHS....they're usually just fussing over the picture and sound quality.
Fabulous.
Lyle Lovett has the sexiest voice.
Sooooo Goood!
@Francine Reed is incredible! She will be performing her first-ever "livestream" tomorrow evening (9/22) at 5 pm (MST). Check it out: nicolepesce.com/francine-reed-s-desert-stream-concert

@@lyleloveth3130 Indeed, I have been to your concerts - I went to as many as I could when I lived in Cincinnati.. loved each one (especially at the zoo in 1993!) Now that I live near Tupelo, MS, I have been so grateful for your livestreams - I've attended all 12 & look forward to next week's! Not only are you a terrific singer/song writer, but you are an awesome human being!! God bless you, Lyle.. be well & happy!!
Classic.
Too cool for words.
I wanna grow up to be him
Smoke’n hot!💪👊👌😎
Great! Thanks for sharing

Love it.
Johnny Carson The Tonight Show from 1989
The line about post toasties gets me everytime
That was great.
😍
Hell Yeah!!!
watch as two seasoned musicians in the band are impressed by reed's fine skatting at 5:55
now listen as there's an issue with timing as they go back into the lyrics at 6:43. the band was 'sposed to be waiting for the pick-up lyric "she'ssss," as the indicator, but they were a little late coming in with lyle on beat- the lyric being "hot". lyle should have been able to hold "she'ssssss" for as long as he wanted before saying the next word and the band should have known and been waiting, so my guess is that lyle WAS 'sposed to hold that lyric longer but didn't, bc there's no way all those seasoned vetrans all fell asleep. : )
and, i'm not pointing that last part out to be a dick- it's just an observation. : )
makefunnytimeyes
I noticed it too. The fact that they played it off, recovered and finished the song is a testament to their musicianship. 99% of people probably didnt catch it.
Yeah baby yeah
If Lyle Lovett came onto me in a bar? Hm. Yeah. Probably. Im a sucker for sweet talk. 😄
Terrence Fletcher would’ve had a drink with Lyle and Francine afterwards. He would’ve thrown 2 cymbals at Louie Belson. The tempo was rushed and the fill was never right once coming out of the spoken verses.
Awesome - missed them in real time, back in the day. Glad for this video to remedy that - thanks!
Also - no brass in the arrangements? "Here I Am" in particular??!? They were great, but seems odd they were left on the bench.
@Yannick Omani, how is it that you cannot hear the brass in "Here I Am"?
@@mikeuher3755 - well ... two ways:
1. I simply do not hear a single instrument from the brass family playing; and,
2. Through ALL of the portions of the video of "Here I Am" where you can see a brass player - his instrument is at least 2 feet away from his face.
Thus, I concluded that there was NO brass playing on that tune during this particular performance. Plenty of woodwinds, strings, and percussion - but zero brass.
💘✊🎶
Her hair grew a lot in a month...
OIY, the hair!!!!!
No wonder Julie Robert’s divorced him in a few months. If I was setting next to him on an airplane I’d pretend to be asleep. HE LOOKS CRAZY! Hahahaha and he just admitted it.z
how real do you feel?
