I'm 27 as well. I started buying Hov albums after the Rush Hour soundtrack in '98. I may be a rare case, because Doggystyle was my first album. Bad Boy & The Family was my first concert.
A lot of people my age never appreciated Hov's greatness because of Aftermath's takeover in the 2000s. Renegade made a lot of people follow Eminem, then Hov dropped Blueprint 2. An album that needed to be condensed.
Now you see people my age starting to show a little more appreciation for Jay Z as an artist. Our generation always respected his business, because when the music wasn't being followed, we always heard about the business moves.

Jay performs at such a high level that he'll never give us bad material. once you exceed excellence your heart and soul won't let you create anything less than. Conspiracy theory, but it looked like Jay followed Nas blueprint track for track!!! Speaking on family matters for their children(Daughters; Legacy), odes to their old hoods (A Queens Story; Marcy Me), No I.D. produced the majority of tracks on Nas album and executive produced Jay-Z's album, (Stay, Bye Baby on Nas album Jay-Z 4:44 marital issues), etc. Speaking on the state of Hip-hop (Back When, Accident Murderers, Family Fued and Moonlight on Jay-Z's album), Shit Jay-Z even did a record with the Marley while Nas did a whole album with Damien years before that SMH!!! Is Jay really obsessed with this MAN!!!

    • @elp3035

Respect, even the content, listen to the lyrics for as well!!! Jay-Z always had better wordplay but that content subject wise is too similar to for there not to be similar!!! Nas always spoke on this family stuff!! It's not even funny. Listen to Roses, Nas was speaking on rappers on drugs 5 years prior!!! Please LISTEN to the Where's the Love track and even the Nas Album Done track!! Been spoke black businesses and investing, which Nas has done with the Bevel situation!!! MAN HE REALLY WAY AHEAD OF THE GAME ON THIS STUFF. I was so mad that year because Nas SHOULD have won a Grammy for that shit!! And good ole' Drake had to scoop it up for a project that came out a year prior and sold more records SMH!!!

Rory saying Jay is the greatest because of his discography was a debateable take in 2017. Now with King's Dosease I and II, it has aged even worse. I think musically it's Nas 1a and Jay 1b.

I just turned 28...we were raised on jay, wayne, em, ti, kanye, lupe, loso...we had to go back and get all the jay classics when we turned like 14 because then we could really understand it...but we were raised on em lol. Joe tried to take that away from us had to say my piece

Jay-Z right now has 5 classic albums.
    1. Reasonable Doubt
    2. Vol. 2 Hard Knock Life
    3. Blueprint
    4. The Black Album
    5. American Gangster
If 4:44 ages well in the next 3 years, I think it will be a classic.

    • @jimmylittle6218

MrSpliffstarz he did it because the beats where fire and Kanye made the blueprint what it is a classic. but Jay Z still didn't want to sign him after that. But Dame did it anyway. Jay Z didn't even hang around Kanye until he became president of Def Jam and he realized he needed him cuz Kanye was the doing bigger numbers than himself

great conversation... good album, but my only gripe is it's 36 min. that teeters on EP length. I would've appreciated more songs, or more verses that fleshed out his thoughts. Those tracks deserved more lyrics imo.

    1. Reasonable Doubt 2. Blueprint 3. Black Album. 1. and 2. can be interchanged depending on whether you want lyrics or production. American Gangster at 4. 4:44 at number 5. Thought it may be too soon, Vol. 2 at 5 until 4:44 ages well.
