Agree with the sentiments they are expressing here, and it’s very relevant cause it’s not just specifically a race issue; All over the world, entities of power / corporations exploit and exercise control over the talent / workers / subservients. The technology of today is disrupting the systems of power that these entities have had, traditionally
But over the past 150 years black entertainers have made music and art that has dominated and influenced the world. And historically a large majority of those black entertainers have died broke and powerless. Because the lion share of the profits from their art or work. Did not go to them. A lot of people are taken advantage of due to ignorance regardless of color, But in the case of black Americans. Racism made it hard for us to legally rectify the situation. This is why it is a race issue.
Jerry Cammon thats a shame that people ended up bad, i just think that “ignorance” is not an excuse for bad decisions, business or otherwise. That Teyanna Taylor album(KTSE) was fire, it's arguably her best album. What's sad is Teyanna Taylor dropped a more recent album, that did NOT have Kanye West involved in the roll out, but no one is talking about it
I recall a 106 & Park interview w Kayne & John Legend where Kanye said "Buy John's album because I make more money from his album than I make from my own."

It says that these deals/contracts are so complex that none of us as indicated from Mr. West said can't understand in the legal language that most of these contracts are written in. This is nothing new. The music industry has pulled the wool over our eyes for many, many years. So I am not surprised that Kanye and other people who have imprints associated to major labels do not know the ends and outs of contracts even when it comes to signing artists to their own labels. Interesting that when Teyana didn’t talk about her disappointment in her label, that’s class, but when Kanye shits on his label, that’s bravery. Most of Joes takes are rooted in tribalism above all. There is no moral consistency.
Yeah it’s because joes actually really fucking dumb and mistakes his behind the scenes insights as the forest rather than the trees. Push had been president of good for 3 years by the time those albums came out, but Joe keeps going back to Teyanas album (which I personally thought came out really well as a final product, great songs, great cover art) as some sort of grand indictment of purposeful wrongdoing on ye’s part. I’m going to go out on a limb and assume she was pitched the idea of being apart of the 7 song lineup - if she wanted more attention and a longer album, she could have backed out. Not just the ceos getting blinded by the glow. My take is the reason teyana didn’t explode about the album is there is more truth in her dropping the ball as well than she’s admitting - if she hadn’t heard her album until they played it at HER (not their, Joe - it was hers) release party, that was her fault for not being there until they pressed play to ensure HER OWN PRODUCT would be released the way she saw fit. All this teyana caping is bullshit, she can’t be y’all strong black queen & totally powerless and incapable of protecting her artistic integrity at the same time ❤️

These guys argue this signing of contracts issue with biased views due to the fallout with Spotify. It is a no brainer that once you sign a contract it is an agreement between two parties. For Kanye to get out of it & own his masters he needs to come up with the money to buy himself out to the value of what is assumed to be the value or is the value of his masters currently. The law protects both parties. It is not personal, based on emotion or what Kanye thinks is right, IT IS JUST BUSINESS!
You can't just come up with the money to buy your Masters. That had to be a stipulation in yhe contract. No matter how much ...money you come up with, they don't have to sell them to you. They are the property of the record company. Putting public pressure on them can possibly get them to reconsider.
@@NathanHowardELA In this case, public pressure is an exercise in futility. The public has no place in this argument. If they (Universal) choose to refuse to sell the masters to him, then that's what that is! A deal is a deal! You can only negotiate the contract otherwise & both parties are entitled to their stand & protected by law.
Prince & Michael wanted their masters and went away. Tupac wanted unity in the black hip hop community and they got him too. Imma be praying for Kanye.
He’s just arguing that it’s a trade off. Some people don’t want to hustle to make money in other ways and be responsible for the behind the scenes clearance work. they may want to sign a major deal to get the guaranteed money and not have to deal with handling their own work and responsibility independently
@@taylor5607 That's fine. I'm just saying that they better have ownership in the entity or ownership of their own content and IP. That said...No such thing as just a name. Naming the network after oneself is a clear signal that the intention is to further brand SELF. The network can only go as far as Joe goes and can never SELL without Joe being a part of it. Interesting strategy.
If artist dont know the deals there getting into, then how could they know the actual negative impact they have on listeners/fans with their music..., money can be blinding
that's tricky because when they sign those contracts whose terms and conditions they allegedly know nothing about, they have a lawyer with them who has advised them. the plot thickens when the record label gives them the lawyer for free lol. yeah i agree with

I can forgive people for inconsistency, but if I cannot vouche for your integrity, I can't go to bat for you. And I cannot vouche for Ye's integrity. Can can't say slavery was a choice, then say you a slave to a contract, while you were signing other people to similar contracts. It seems like hes just using words he knows are triggering and galvanizing and implicate everyone so he get get everyone behind him like he did with the church album. Once he sell s his albums, maybe adjust his own contract, he'll be off it even though its a fight to fight. But if we make or let him be the face of this fight, then its a fight we will definitely lose when he dips and his next album is about to drop.

All over the world, entities of power / corporations exploit and exercise control over the talent / workers / subservients.
If you are gonna get into something the onus is on you to make sure everything is as it should be, the other side has no incentive to make sure you are overly taken care of they worry about their side and you yours.
@@MrSpicabooo this is the issue with american business models, it is true that in a business dealing you should be looking out for yourself, and yourself only because people can be sharks, but should i not to business that is good for me AND you so that we can return to do business again, this shark eat shark mentality is what causes disproportionate wealth, if we looked out for each other for US both to make the most money, we can generate more business in the future and make argurably more money because im inclined to trust you more the second time around having not got fucked in the previous deal, if i even choose to deal with you again?
MysticPeaches MysticPeaches american business model? Thats business around the yr sir. Someones always at a position of more leverage. If they both on equal ground then yea they can do business liek you said where they its equally good for both. But if ur in an advantageous position then you set the parameter and the others side makes a yes or no choice, LEVERAGE is the key word in all dealings. Like i said both sides look out for themselves, if one side dont like the terms they dont have to sign, people just get outmaneuvered and then complain when its their own fault.
These lables have blood on thier hands, prison pipe line , deciding what's popular and what influences the kids etc. They have done more then just merely screw artist over with good business strategies.

That Teyanna Taylor album(KTSE) was fire, it's arguably her best album. What's sad is Teyanna Taylor dropped a more recent album, that did NOT have Kanye West involved in the roll out, but no one is talking about it

Salute to Joe for acknowledging that Ye arguably has the greatest discography in hip hop history.
HOV Has The Best Catalog
PJ Mills that’s arguable but Kanye produced some of Jay’s best music from 2000-2011, so it’s a win for Ye either way.
People Produced For YE.. & Wrote for him
PJ Mills ok gay z fan
PJ Mills Ye co- produced and produced all of his albums. Plus Ye’s discography changed music more than Hov’s.

Yeah but remember the beef he had wit the Beatles cuz of it tho
That’s why they killed him 😔
For whatever reason, this takes me back to that episode of punked wit ye where they pretend to take the original copy of a music video he’s shooting and he’s fightin everyone and runnin wit the film in hand. And he’s like “hell naw, y’all ain’t gettin shit!” Lololol
On that album with new slaves he spoke about his contracts.
A. G. I see you 👀👏
he gets 1 dollar per album sale or whatever that calculates out to for downloads. so hes in a 90 10. and hes the 10
A. G. so now he’s choosing not to be one?
Kanye west on another level Joe.
Come on Joe!

Even I will pay $500 to a lawyer when I get contracts. Just saying. I agree these cats are slimy af... and everyone should have their masters... but where are the lawyers?
@@erikaarnold4780 I agree totally with you. The record industry has been like this. With the internet you don't need a record company, if Drake walked away from UMG they wouldn't know what to do.

Daaamn he said Vivendi. That is pretty damn crazy if Ye is challenging the people in that bubble.
My only issue with this.. this whole discussion came off of how do they feel about Jay Z selling Kanye's masters and they quickly avoided the question and started taking about Kanye which was not all positive, shit half of it was negative but they absolutely refuse to speak on Jay when some negative shit comes up about him...if they gone be biased because of their ties... cool... just don't bring the damn topics up that you're gonna dance around or move the focus to someelse... that shit is irritating to watch.

I know it’s Budden’s pod. But, let the Rari and Mal finish their thoughts as well. They literally start forming good points within 5-10 seconds of speaking and then they get cutoff. Valid points from you all. Big ups to Joe for the vocalizing of empowering upcoming pod casters!
Joe Budden Network 😂 it's beautiful
Could have sworn he said he wasn’t going to say anything and let them two guys talk....

ye giving all good music artists they masters back
So what I gather basically is that Kanye never read his contracts and his lawyers and management never tapped him on the shoulder about his contract and the label used Kanye own ego and bad financial practices against him and the labels own everything and Kanye is stuck like chuck.
He owns 50% of it and he’s giving it back to them.
why is your opinion so important? genuine question
Interesting that when Teyana didn’t talk about her disappointment in her label, that’s class, but when Kanye shits on his label, that’s bravery.
Most of Joes takes are rooted in tribalism above all. There is no moral consistency.
We talking about artistic decisions versus unethical financial practices. The two subjects are almost not even in the same ball park...
All this teyana caping is bullshit, she can’t be y’all strong black queen & totally powerless and incapable of protecting her artistic integrity at the same time ❤️
@@cleesely I agree, I enjoyed her project until I heard her shitting all over it. I think Pusha said that she wasn't around for mixing and stuff but he stayed around for his project. He is pres so I understand why he'd be there but damn, she's an artist, I'd expect an artist to be around for mixing smh.
Asking cuz I legit dk.., is there ANYONE at least semi-known that does rap/hip-hop analysis similar to Joe?
Like, combining "barbershop" Hip-Hop debates with in-depth rap/verse/music breakdowns and also Hip-Hop industry insight? Regardless, his actual experience/success in the industry (Billboard hit single) & analysis of song-craft/rapping & infamous 'beef' history, combined with his sense of humor & absolute fearlessness to speak his mind, there's no one in his galaxy in this space. Hes even better than Charlemagne. Joe may have been an average rapper (commercially), he's the goddamn Tupac of Hip-Hop commentary. He's the Charles Barkley of Hip-Hop.
But still.. is there anyone else doin similar shit? Is Ak's shows super similar? (Ive watched E.S., but never his channel)
How yal gon breakdown Kanye contract more than yal told us about yal Spotify contract?

He who feels it knows it - Layers of the black man
These guys argue this signing of contracts issue with biased views due to the fallout with Spotify.
Kanye was an A&R. They just used the record company (Good Music) as a front.
💯
Prince & Michael wanted their masters and went away. Tupac wanted unity in the black hip hop community and they got him too. Imma be praying for Kanye.
For someone who wanted unity in black hip-hop he sure did pick a lot of fights..
25:05 “Labels owning all your masters isn’t the worst thing in the world” Parks WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!????
Music is a loss leader. If you can’t make money off of music why not leverage it to sell movies, merch, fashion, & endorsements?
He’s just arguing that it’s a trade off. Some people don’t want to hustle to make money in other ways and be responsible for the behind the scenes clearance work. they may want to sign a major deal to get the guaranteed money and not have to deal with handling their own work and responsibility independently
Rory got the Bobby hill fade
Joes co-host better get their own shows that they OWN 100% of.
It’s just name. They can still own part of the “ Joe budden” network
Operation paperclip is what you're referring to at the beginning...

To be real Kanye, never owned good music. Alot of these rappers don't own them record companies. It's just be for fronts. See how scared black rappers scared to speak up on what Kanye saying. But ppl was on Birdman head....
@Jack Louis They don't go indy because you have to put in more work on the ground level and they'll never admit it but they LOVE the attention. They want to be "stars," not just paid. Tech N9ne richer than most of them but you never hear him on the radio. It was the same with Nipsey. They're willing to sacrifice making more money for getting to rub shoulders with all the fake ass Hollyweirdos...
that goes to show how black people will turn on their own but not the big white man. Black people may not be slaves physically but in the sub conscious alot of us are shackled down.
@Red PanDa1 Birdman sold his label to Universal. That's why he made Rich Gang.. my dude.
