Should have been when the asian guy was gonna get killed, since he attacks Jason w/ a hockey stick. It was uh nice seeing what Willa Ford is working with, haha. Patiently waiting for the 13th entry in the series. Since all the legal stuff is finally sorta sorted out.
I personally think this was a good version of Jason/Friday the 13th. It was definitely a "grittier" and more "realistic" take on the character and scenario, as opposed to the supernatural leanings of the films that came later in the franchise. I never understood the hate that this film got, especially compared to some of the other entries into to franchise. I'm far more likely to rewatch this as opposed to Jason Goes to Hell or Jason X. I also realize that this is just my opinion and everyone is equally entitled to theirs.
I remember watching this in 2009 with my mom we watched it twice the same night we enjoyed it very much i just don't understand why people hate it so much
I loved them all, but for some reason I'm still stuck on Part 3 as my favorite. I guess it's cause it's the first time you see him get the hockey mask? Plus watching him chop that dude in half when he was doing the handstand is still hilarious to me. LOL
I really liked this one. Though i've always been interested in how Jason managed to live so long as a kid - learn how to work generators, setup cabling, etc. I had a thought a while back that would make for an interesting reboot in that Jason survived via cannibalism (his mothers corpse) when he got really hungry and as a result turned into a territorial Wendigo - hence the strength, speed, cunning, etc. Basically a vengeful force of nature took over the boy.
I don't understand why people pay attention to rotten tomatoes, there's barely any reviews. The type of people who don't have a life are the only ones who would go and bitch about a movie like this. God damn this movie was fucking phenomenal
I almost wish that the prologue/flashback at the beginning of the movie was handled differently. Start with the group, THEN when Wade starts telling his story, intercut it with quick flashes of that origin...so we are only seeing the sort of "mythic interpretation" of the origin, instead of presenting it as some kind of black and white, clear cut "Flashback scene" I found this to be an EXCELLENT return to the roots of the first 4 entries, it went back to basics after all of the adventures with psychics, Manhattan, Body hopping, Freddy, and space....this was legitimate return to the roots of the series and I loved it for that.
I actually find this film to be very underrated when it comes towards its reception, I would’ve definitely tuned in to a sequel, survivalist Jason is pretty badass
I like the part 6 version. Undead monster with supernatural powers. I don't want him to draw out the deaths and torture people. He just wants them dead. There are already enough psychos in the real world to worry about. Also part 6 is the only one without nudity. It really isn't necessary. It doesn't have the same impact as back when it wasn't just a few clicks away or on our phones. I think it got a bad score because it missed checking many of the boxes the original fans wanted.
Even the baghead looked awesome. In Friday the 13th part 2, the original baghead Jason looked so goofy that I never wanted to see that awful look again. This one made it look really cool! I would have been okay with having that look for the whole movie.
The friday the 13 remake was awesome and great from start to finish. The problem is that it made so much money that it got us in the problem we have today we're it's locked in litigation. No matter what anybody says, it was better than the recent Halloween trilogy.
This was probably one of the smartest remakes of its time. They understood the plot of F13, which was pretty straightforward lol and executed. Hearing the roar of applause in the theater, once the title card appeared after that intro sequence was so satisfying, and made it one of the most enjoyable opening night experiences any horror fan could ask for
sa.e thing happened in my theater. there was a long line that went out of the theater and it was all for this movie. when everyone got in, we watch the intro, and when the title card came up, every started clapping
Man, I honestly still don’t get the hate! I think most of the hate came from the fact that no one was asking for a remake, everyone myself included were asking for Freddy vs Jason vs Ash, but I still loved this remake. There is always the “well that isn’t Jason” well neither is being a zombie, and also a demon, and also an unkillable force that goes to space, Jason legit evolved throughout the years so much there are many versions of Jason. The series went into such ridiculous territory, that the arguments on why they hate this film in particular became ridiculous, especially when some can sit there with a straight face and tell you that Jason takes Manhattan was their favourite one, I think most of the hate comes from Kane Hodder being passed up for the role, and everyone was just drawing strings for reasons to not like this movie. I personally was upset Kane was passed up too, but I still liked Derek Mears take on Jason Voorhees, and I still say the scariest Jason is the Jason who comes barrelling towards you at full speed fully intending to kill you. The film wasn’t the best, but you know all the other ‘Friday the 13th’ movies ain’t exactly fucking ‘Citizen Kane’ either.
I watched this when it came out and didn't care for it. Then I watched it again last year and didn't think it was near as bad as I remembered. Sure, it wasn't as good as many of the old ones, but it was a decently solid slasher. I think the biggest drawback was the victims. None of them were particularly likeable. It's fine to have a few you don't like because it makes you want them to die. However, even the ones we're supposed to like (the final girl and her hero) still felt hollow and you didn't care about them.
i remember hanging out with my friends after school and we were all watching the tv and a sneak peak came out. it was so . like burned in my mind how scared we were that he was under the floor in that cabin 😭
I just forced myself to watch all the old Friday the 13th 1-10 , I think maybe six was decent. They are god-awful, this remake is honestly the only thing about the series that is actually good.
I am an advertising copywriter who was part of a team that was looking for director to film a TV commercial. One of the directors we talked to was Marcus Nispel, before he helmed any movies. Nispel was all sunshine and light on our conference calls. We didn’t choose him for this particular commercial, but our agency chose him for another one. Let me just say, Nispel went beast mode on the day of the shoot and killed more people than Jason.
Many hated this remake back then but i was completely sold in it before and was even hooked by the unrated cut, which led me to get the Nece 09 version of Jason my top 1 favorite design of the killer.
That's awesome! I only have a part 4 jason figure. I really want the figures from part 7 and the remake too. And I agree, the unrated cut is the way to go.
Hot take. And I myself hate to admit it cause I fell in love with the originals. Very young. And I consider myself a hard core Friday fan. Tattoos. Toys. Posters. Blu rays. 4ks all of it. And I have to say. This is a perfect Friday the 13th film. And I hate saying it but it really is. And I wish they made a trilogy out of it.
Does ANYONE take Rotten Tomatoes seriously? Honest, you can ignore them and nothing of value will be lost. I grew up on this franchise and thought the remake was really good, save for the jump scare end, which came off silly and not fitting the vibe they had established. And yes, the "love" scene was epic, only rivaled by the jaw dropping, filled out brunette in part 5.
I love this movie, it’s got its faults sure but it along with Freddy Vs Jason are a return to glory for the franchise imo. I’ve always called it a re-amalgamation as it amalgamates the first 4 movies into 1. Which they do a better job of here than they did with A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010).
Danielle Pennebaker is a Doll. I really liked this one too. The Hills Hsve Eyes remake is also awesome. Besides, who listens or gives a S**t what rotton potatoes thinks of movies??
Its so nice for people to finally acknowledge how good this movie really was. Theres been so much slander from alot of fans I've never understood I've even had people belittle me for enjoying it.
I’ve always felt this was the best remake out of the big 3 (Micheal, Freddy and Jason), it summed up the first 4 movies into one which really says something about the original 4. I feel the people that hated this film is in the group of “we hate remakes just because they’re remakes”. This film is much better than the original, the 2nd had a better final girl, the 3rd isn’t much better and the 4th is the best in the series. They should have made a sequel.
Your right. Nightmare and Elm street was just a copy and paste of the original, I still liked it and the actor of Freddy but its not perfect. The problem with Halloween was that they butchered the character of Michael big time every character was a POS that he would kill and the kid backstory was the worst. The only redeemable thing of that movie was the portrayal being an absolute powerhouse of a man but that wasn’t Michael. F13th was for sure the best remake of the 3.
When you write the majority of your characters to be unlikable and unrelatable... the audience wont like it. Texas Chainsaw did really well because the characters were great.
I only saw this a couple of years ago when I bought the series on blu ray (although it left out Jason Goes to Hell & Jason X so I felt ripped off), & I surprisingly enjoyed it.
Honesty my biggest problem with this might be how polished it looked. The draw as a kid watching the originals was the grimy drive in movie nature of the series.
The remake was ok. However, I really wanted to see an extended remake of the fight between Alice Hardy and Pamela Voorhees. A version in which they have a brutal, prolonged chase and fight scene during which Alice doesn't constantly drop her weapons and fail to finish Pamela off.
I don’t care what Rotten Tomatoes thinks. They should have made a sequel to this.

I liked the remake. It was a good combo of various aspects from Friday 1-4...infinitely better than Nightmare's remake. One thing I kinda wish is if they switched up where he gets the hockey mask. Should have been when the asian guy was gonna get killed, since he attacks Jason w/ a hockey stick. It was uh nice seeing what Willa Ford is working with, haha.
Patiently waiting for the 13th entry in the series. Since all the legal stuff is finally sorta sorted out.
Both Willa Ford and Julianne Guil really brought their A game 😉
@robertwild9447 Julianne was the one he cheated with right? Where he literally says great t*ts right?😂
@@thecunninlynguist He calls them stupendous actually 😁
@@robertwild9447 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I personally think this was a good version of Jason/Friday the 13th. It was definitely a "grittier" and more "realistic" take on the character and scenario, as opposed to the supernatural leanings of the films that came later in the franchise. I never understood the hate that this film got, especially compared to some of the other entries into to franchise. I'm far more likely to rewatch this as opposed to Jason Goes to Hell or Jason X. I also realize that this is just my opinion and everyone is equally entitled to theirs.
Completely agree. I also appreciated the slick look of the movie. Finally someone put some real money into a Friday film.
Jason using the bow and arrow in this will always be awesome 🏹
I remember watching this in 2009 with my mom we watched it twice the same night we enjoyed it very much i just don't understand why people hate it so much
You watched this shit with your mom? Good god man
It's criminal we never got a sequel to this
It was apparently due to money reasons between New Line and Paramount
One of 5 remakes that i actually liked and DESERVED a sequel or two
Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw, Hills Have Eyes, Last House on The Left & Friday The 13th r classics
This and Part 7 are both highly underrated.
Oh shit that's a great concept
This turned out MUCH better than the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot.
Start with the group, THEN when Wade starts telling his story, intercut it with quick flashes of that origin...so we are only seeing the sort of "mythic interpretation" of the origin, instead of presenting it as some kind of black and white, clear cut "Flashback scene"
I found this to be an EXCELLENT return to the roots of the first 4 entries, it went back to basics after all of the adventures with psychics, Manhattan, Body hopping, Freddy, and space....this was legitimate return to the roots of the series and I loved it for that.
I love the remake
Fun fact... Friday the 13th and Transformers are in the same universe... Trent is in both franchises...
I actually find this film to be very underrated when it comes towards its reception, I would’ve definitely tuned in to a sequel, survivalist Jason is pretty badass
I think this was a good entry in the franchise. Better than any of the Halloween or Elm Street efforts IMO.
Rob zombie halloween is amazing. And texas chainsaw massacre the beginning is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
They shouldn’t have labeled this as a remake, because it wasn’t at all
@@RYMAN1321it was a re-imagining. But ultimately much better.
Big fan of this movie. Love Jason's look in the movie.
Even the baghead looked awesome. In Friday the 13th part 2, the original baghead Jason looked so goofy that I never wanted to see that awful look again. This one made it look really cool! I would have been okay with having that look for the whole movie.
@@TheJokesterSCR nop i prefer the mask 😝😏
The friday the 13 remake was awesome and great from start to finish. The problem is that it made so much money that it got us in the problem we have today we're it's locked in litigation. No matter what anybody says, it was better than the recent Halloween trilogy.
I always liked this remake. It's a fun movie.
This was probably one of the smartest remakes of its time. They understood the plot of F13, which was pretty straightforward lol and executed. Hearing the roar of applause in the theater, once the title card appeared after that intro sequence was so satisfying, and made it one of the most enjoyable opening night experiences any horror fan could ask for
sa.e thing happened in my theater. there was a long line that went out of the theater and it was all for this movie. when everyone got in, we watch the intro, and when the title card came up, every started clapping
the intro was intense back then
This was the best Friday the 13th movie, change my mind.
Such a complete reboot. Loved the homages and execution. Mears was phenomenal.
4:58 holy sh¡t that guy was born to play Jason
I hated that they wanted to explain things. We didn't need them. Its part of the charm.
Not a big horror fan but I loved this movie and this era😊
This era was the worst of all for horror and this movie the worst to have Friday The 13th.
I view this movie as more of a reboot than a remake
It's baffling that it didn't get a sequel, it made a good amount of money, and Friday the 13th never had good reviews from the critics.
I know right? I wanted a sequel to this set during the winter. That could've been fun and a little different.
I believe that was the original plan
I watched this when it came out and didn't care for it. Then I watched it again last year and didn't think it was near as bad as I remembered. Sure, it wasn't as good as many of the old ones, but it was a decently solid slasher. I think the biggest drawback was the victims. None of them were particularly likeable. It's fine to have a few you don't like because it makes you want them to die. However, even the ones we're supposed to like (the final girl and her hero) still felt hollow and you didn't care about them.
Best of the Franchise IMO.. This version of Jason is the last one I want stalkin me.. great review
i remember hanging out with my friends after school and we were all watching the tv and a sneak peak came out. it was so . like burned in my mind how scared we were that he was under the floor in that cabin 😭
Of all the remakes/reboots we got in this era of horror. I thought this was the best.
as a friday the 13th hardcore fan i LOVED this movie it was different than the others for once
The 2009 Friday The 13TH Kicks A$$!
The opening scenes are awesome
This movie was great ! Jason was awesome
I always felt that Jenna (Danielle Panabaker) was such a great final girl and should NOT have died at the end ☹️ *spoiler*
Im glad you referred to the "assets" of a couole of the actresses. The best of the entire series.
This is my favorite out of the series. Jason is a beast and I like the characters.
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is scary yes. The remake was boring as hell!
Literally watching right now🤌🏽 still love this film. Just finished Jason in Manhattan and Jason Lives
Danielle Pennebaker is a Doll. I really liked this one too. The Hills Hsve Eyes remake is also awesome.
Besides, who listens or gives a S**t what rotton potatoes thinks of movies??
Saw it in theaters and loved it.
Yet these movies are way better than the new remakes nowadays
Its so nice for people to finally acknowledge how good this movie really was. Theres been so much slander from alot of fans I've never understood I've even had people belittle me for enjoying it.
This is one of the best horror remakes ever
@@machineguncrally7020 Rob Zombies "degenerated" style just does not work for Halloween. He would be great for Texas Chainsaw Massacre tho.
I’d rate this movie a 7.5 out of 10
I may rewatch this one tonight.
When you write the majority of your characters to be unlikable and unrelatable... the audience wont like it. Texas Chainsaw did really well because the characters were great.
Agreed… and JB’s midriff and wet tanktop for the duration of the film didn’t hurt either
I could find the characters to be pretty relatable, personally. But yeah, they were unlikable on purpose.
I love it
The 3 best slashers of all time are...
Friday the 13th (2009)
Rob zombies halloween
Freddy vs jason
This remake is awesome! Jason is brutal
The best Friday the 13th movie and the best Jason
I only saw this a couple of years ago when I bought the series on blu ray (although it left out Jason Goes to Hell & Jason X so I felt ripped off), & I surprisingly enjoyed it.
Honesty my biggest problem with this might be how polished it looked. The draw as a kid watching the originals was the grimy drive in movie nature of the series.
Yeah, the move did seem sort of fake and inauthentic. From the overly polished shots to the boobs.
All the Platinum Dunes remakes share this quality and it doesn’t work too well with horror films. Everyone is always good looking and sweaty.
Yes!!! It just wasn’t right…. Didn’t feel like any of the others…. Including Jason ‘in space’…. Just didn’t have the ‘crystal lake’ feel….
The remake was ok. However, I really wanted to see an extended remake of the fight between Alice Hardy and Pamela Voorhees. A version in which they have a brutal, prolonged chase and fight scene during which Alice doesn't constantly drop her weapons and fail to finish Pamela off.
