I want to tell you thanks. I have the exact generator and forgot to put stabilizer in the gas and run the engine out of gas. Snow/ice storm coming and found out I didn’t do this last year. Generator wouldn’t even attempt to start. Thank you for the step by step fix. Runs like a champ and now we wait for Landon.
Glad I could help
I just wanted to say I had the exact same problem as this fellow's shown on a video I did exactly like he said and the generator started right up that is so wonderful thank you very much my name is Kevin w
thanks kevin
The 4mm socket to remove the carb studs was what I was looking for.
Thanks for this video. My carb was exactly the same, except I’m 98% sure mine didn’t have a spring in the bowl. I was sitting on the concrete floor and took it apart, nothing flew out, rolled away, I searched high and low and never found a spring. I truly don’t think mine had one?!
I found your video after making a run to harbor freight for e sockets to remove the carb bolts. But oh well, I have some external torx sockets now.
My gasket came loose while spraying with carb cleaner. When I put it all back together it started the first pull ✊ but was leaking badly AFTER running, looked like where the bowl meets the top of the carb. I tore it apart and tried again, seemingly the same way. Started first pull, and no leaks after it ran this time ✊👍
Thanks for the video. I don’t mess with carbs often. I didn’t have your gold solution, but I did have a set of forney tip cleaning tools and seemed to do the trick.
Well explained. Thanks
Awesome!!! Thank you very much for this video!!!
Great helpful video. I have a very similar model B&S generator (030253) and had a few questions:
1) You were absolutely right about getting those stubborn screws loose and being careful about not stripping the screw heads. I've tried using vice grips and PB Blaster to loosen it, but haven't had much luck. Any other things I could try? If it didn't have fuel all over it I'd try running it under hot water in my bathroom sink, hoping the metal in the housing would expand more than the metal in the screws.
2) I inherited this generator and its never been run or had gas stored in it, but its likely around 15 years old. I removed the spark plug and poured oil stabilizer in to the cylinder and slowly pulled the recoil starter cord 10 times. Then I put the spark plug and wire back in place, put two quarts of 10W30 in to the engine, filled the tank with 2.5 gallons of gas, opened the fuel line, and turned the rocker switch to on. When trying to pull the start cord again there's a lot of resistance that's preventing the engine from turning. Since I didn't have this problem when the spark plug was removed I figured there's a vacuum forming in the cylinder and it could be caused by the carb being clogged. That's when I tried following what you had done in this video and got stuck on removing the screws. However, with the carb removed from the engine I again tried slowing pulling the start cord and still continued to encounter the resistance in turning the engine. When I say "resistance, " I mean I can only pull the cord a few inches and if I continue pulling I just end up dragging this 200lb generator across the floor. Any ideas of what I can try next?
the cylinder filled with gas remove the plug pull it over and youll see it come out the plug hole. use a chisel for the screws. hit directly on one side of the bolt head 3 or 4 times making a notch then cock the chisel to the side of the notch that will make it turn counter clockwise. tap with hammer till it moves then remove screws. they will move. or just buy a new one. they are cheap. carb

Thank you very much. Your video helped clean mine. I followed your video closely. I'll find out in a bit if works, after I put carb back together!
you got this
Thank you very much for doing such a GREAT job with this video . I really appreciate the detailed information .
Glad it was helpful!
Good video. Nice tip about using the 4mm socket.
just something i figured out along the way.
This carburetor you listed, it will fit this model, 030235, I have the same generator, need to replace the carburetor
i have the model in the title
Thank You for the nice tutorial video. I have a similar generator with the same B&S carburetor (591378). I removed the carburetor to clean it and then re-installed it. When removing the fuel line from the carburetor, I found it easier to remove it by using a wide screwdriver to just push the line out.
My problem after reinstalling the carburetor is that the engine runs or idles smoother when the choke is closed or to the right. After starting the engine and slowly opening or moving the choke to the left, the engine starts missing just a bit like it wants to die out. However, it won't die/stop, it just coughs a bit.
I have two questions:
1) Will running the generator with the choke closed or to the right damage anything on the generator?
2) What would be causing it to do this. I did not change any parts; I just cleaned it with carb cleaner. I live in Texas so I am getting ready for the freezing temperatures. I ran the generator for three days straight during our last deep freeze when the entire State of Texas shut down.
I did buy an OEM B&S carb for backup just in case.
Any advice is appreciated.
it is running lean. the jet is still clogged slightly. this is why i use acid to clean the jets. pull carb off and clean jets again. no you shouldnt run partial choke. it can build up carbon in cylinder
@@smallengineguys Thanks! I ordered the acid from AMAZON today. Will keep you posted on the results.
i still get carbs today i have to do more than once. it will work fine.
Do you have a part# on the 2 carburetor studs? 1 of mine broke
Thank you great 👍
Thank you too!
How much does the generator weigh approximately? How often do you change the oil if the generator does not have an hours gage? Thank you!
Just guessing but 100-150 lbs and oul change is every 100 hours but its black as coal by then . I do it when it starts getting dark. Takes less than a quart so more often wont hurt.
You think it could fit on the back of a small suv m, Mazda Tribute?
should fit in the back
That carb looked brand new...
Yep but the jet was clogged and thats all it takes
Just FYI, I have one almost identical and the nuts & bolts are SAE, not metric.
Yes they are. I just use metric most the time. 10 is 3/8 13 is half 14 is 9/16 at least close enough.
My on/off switch is missing the ground wire. What is it connected to?
There is a single wire that pluggs into the coil. Thin black wire. That goes to switch then other side of switch goes to ground.

New carburator a still don;t run!!!
did you clean the tank and use bought today gas. gas in small amounts is only good for about 3 weeks. if you dumped old gas in you just dirtied your new carb. check the plug. is it clean and dry. is there oil in it and full do you have compression? spray some carb or brake cleaner in the carb does it start and shut off?
