I have the newest version. There are few differences. The "base hub" is now integrated into pilot, that means You will never loose it due to drone pull. Second thing is that charger has two connectors so You may simultaneously charge both pilot and drone itself. Also You don`t need to change ballast, You use one for fresh and sea water. Still I wish cable was on sort of a rolling stuff instead of this cable twist. Looks like Chasing listens to customers. Big ups! Thanks for video. Other than that drone is great. SUB and like.
Just ordered one of these with a 200 m tether. I've been exploring a virgin cave--so far 300 feet in and still at the water table, submerged to my chest and it's tightened to just about the limit of my ability to squeeze much further. Plenty of space for this drone though. This will also let me catalog fauna without disturbing them or kicking up silt. I can't wait to get to it. Thanks for the review.
Awesome, cool to hear your planned application for this drone. My suggestion is to turn the drone to Slow mode in order to kick up the least amount of silt. If you get close to an edge/wall of the cave, you may kick up a good bit if you're not careful. Slow mode will buy you some time.
This is very cool. It would be interesting to see how it performs in the sea. When snorkelling with my kids it's captivating to see a whole new world around you - this takes things to another level though.
The most challenging thing for me was not knowing where it is in the water. I almost wish it had a buoy that would float above it to determine it's location. That way, if it does get snagged, you know where to go to get it.
You talk at 13:00 in the vid about a lanyard clip on the controller, You might try experimenting with the lanyard temporarily attached at different points on the arm that attaches a SMARTPHONE to the controller. There might be a way to attach the lanyard without blocking your screen view, Just a thought.
Oh man... you have to get that thing to some clear blue water! I’d suspect most fresh water lakes and rivers would be similarly frustrating with snag points and silt. Good overview of the product. Thanks!
Hey Bud, great video, thanks for sharing! Wondering if we'll need approval from NOAA soon to use it? Liked that you were able to show some decent footage and even a fish, seems like that's a interesting scouting tool before fishing an area... Good Flying!
Great video man! Cool toy!!! I am very interested in this!! Would be nice if the Seawater weight could be mounted to the remote to make it less top heavy...
I know. Stick a beach 🏖 umbrella in the middle of the umbilical line holder. (Only to have the wind blow it into the water) Long steel tent pegs or a steel rod hammered in the ground should do good.
That'd be perfect! However I bet you could use your own reel, maybe one that you could buy from a home improvement store for spooling power cables or wire or something like that. The reason the included reel is so oblong is to be able to fit in the backpack.
question.. the thing has two different weights depending on the water.. but how about the tether cable.. i see it floats quite well in freshwater.. guess it floats even more in salt.. have you tried and if so, is there a difference you could see?
Yeah the oblong shape of it makes it difficult to unwind easily...but it fits into the backpack easier so there's a tradeoff. If you wanted to you could use any old circular spool and not use the included spool though.
Cool video....they need to work on all of those problems before i spend that money. Worry about my phone falling off into the water. Connecting should be easy. The lights need to be stronger like your flashlight. Sd card should work if i spend 1500. . they need to give you a stand up reel for the teether . overall drone is built nice. If the line was cut and the drone was on the bottom...would it float to surface?
DBull's quad is in that very rock quarry. I'd love to try searching for it, but snagging the line is a real hazard. Kinda need some divers to help the effort anyway, this thing has no grabber arms or anything. But if we really dedicated some time, we could definitely recover his GoPro.
Is there any reason why you chose this underwater drone over some of the others like the Powerdolphin etc? Really looking into buying one of these to further my fishing channel. They obviously need a tether because wifi won't work underwater.
Hi, well I only chose the drone because it was offered to me by the company Chasing :) I've never used an underwater drone before so this was my first experience. If Powerdolphin reached out to me, I'd probably have a video of that one up too. However my review was honest and I definitely provide some critical feedback on it in the 2nd half of the video after I go over the features in the first half for the Gladius Mini. Yes the tether is essential, and I'd recommend the 100m tether to take full advantage of the depth capabilities.
@@EdRickerVlogs Ah cheers thanks. So far this drone appears to be the best. Great review as well. Been following you since about 4000 subs your channel has grown and well deserved.
we do documentary films about our city. 3 Weeks ago we ordered a Gladius Mini Underwater drone We expected a nice footage from it. But …. The WIFI connection is bad and it keeps disconnecting, We had a bad 30 min trying to connect the drone when it was in the sea, and it did not connect. The micro SD Card is useless, we need to download it to the phone first and then we must send it to another platform to edit it. We tried to update the drone itself, nothing really changed. Anyway SD Card is not that much important, but the connection is Very important. We couldn’t shot a single video with it, and I started to fell that its useless. (and its not cheap) Could you please find us a solution? (( I contacted the live support, I was explaning to them the problame, they said “sorry must go outside the office…send me an email…bye” ))
Hey Ed, I have seen Dustin Dunnill who lives in Hawaii, put it in the ocean several times and it does great in saltwater Maybe you could take it down to Kure beach and check out the coastal waterway. Mike in N.C.
Is that under 250 grams, registered with the Coast Guard, you have your Captain certification, and how do you keep LOS? PS - signage up on marina to all watercraft vehicles to stay away, or you’ll get cut ✂️ off Have fun till it’s regulated.
They need to get rid of the wireless and hard wire to the phone I heard of a bunch of lost connections on other videos . The teather looks like a pain i the ass to un roll and roll back up I dont like it at all I would love to get one of these but it has a lot of hick ups from what I can see
Yeah, I would like a hardwire connection to the phone too. I think if they had a round tether spool, that would make things a little easier. Unfortunately, I don't think we can ever eliminate the tether itself though, since water is notorious for blocking RC signal especially when video transmission is involved.
@@EdRickerVlogs They actually do have a upgrade on the spool its motorized and as the drone goes out it automatically slowly let out cord when you are done disconnect the drone hit the switch and it winds it up . I want this and a drone with a claw. How has yours help up? Any bitches about it ?
@@EdRickerVlogs Was it a good unit would you recommend it any cons on it ? I would eventually like to get one but was looking at the fly fish but it a little more money
No cons beyond what I already laid out. If I was more of a water hobby person I'd be all about it, but I'm not. I was most intrigued by the concept when offered to me by the company, so I took advantage of the review opportunity. I would never personally spend money on it, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to review it.
All the motors will freeze up if the drone is not completely unassembled each time and cleaned, and will soon freeze up anyway as the motors are submerged in the water with no protection. Interest will soon be lost... i am one who tried it and now have a neat camera that can take nice photos and videos ... no propulsion. For $200 you can change the motors, but it'll be only temporary. Try jt, but beware, especially in salt water.
My motors locked up, but I was able to free them after submerging it in a bathtub and then rocking the grit out. Not great that we have to do it but it's possible.
Well isnt this great...I run all the hoops about a dead drone used once and now they dont even respond! Chassing support SUCKS! so much for warranty...spend 2400 canadian on their drone to use once and stops working and they dont respond to you anymore!!!
I fly a DJI Mavic Air in the sky but i would never buy a drone connected with a cable like that haha. Being a scuba diver i would just dive in myself and use a Gopro or a Sony X3000 and have much better footage. This seems more like a toy than a drone to me.

thats a great idea. But than You have two cables instead of one that can be tricky to handle
Though about glueing a apple gps thing to it
I suppose you could put a carp fishing marker float on the line that would hover on the surface above the rov

Nice distraction from quadcopters. Great video. Needs a rewindable reel so it will unwind itself when the sub moves.

I have been looking at a few of these, still checking the reviews on the others. This was a well informative review Thanks
I love how all of these ROVs come with realtime video functionality. It wasn't always like that!

great video...can I use on a frozen lake when ice fising?
It’d be nice if they could create some sort of self unwinding reel for the tether. Clearer waters will be great to explore for sure! Thx

Nice, hope we see some underwater cinema in the future ;-) What do you think, it's maneuverable in a certain current?

Good idea! The Gladius Mini's live stream function is very intriguing, looking forward to trying that at the ocean too.
Throwing it around by the tether is not a good idea you will have to replace that after a bit...
I agree, was just necessary to get it out past the edge of the quarry without actually throwing it over.
