📋 PowerPoint Hack: Leveraging Merge Shapes in an Earlier Version
In this tutorial, we'll take a rectangular shape that fills an entire slide and enhance it with WordArt text placed on top. This technique isn't limited to these shapes alone; you can experiment with various forms. By selecting both objects using the SHIFT key, you can execute a sequence of steps. We'll employ the CUT command, followed by the Paste Special option accessed through the Paste Drop Down button. Within the Paste Special dialog box, choose the Picture (PNG) format.
Once your slide boasts the same elements as a Picture, a new phase begins. Employ the Set Transparent Color tool located in the Format tab's Color drop-down menu. Click on the color you wish to eliminate from the image - in our case, the Black hue.

I searched high n low for a work around related to merge shapes, this video provided such a relief, loving your techniques.
Btw, I am using Microsoft 2010 and have inserted ribbon for combine shapes however am still unable to combine wordart and shapes. If any other simpler approach please let me know.

So for me the merge shape wouldn't activate. So I went to Home, under editing hit select, which should open an option menu to the right. There I hit control on my keyboard and selected the two shapes I need that are listed. Then then I went back up to shape format and the merge button was activated. Newer version of powerpoint not sure what year. All the best. (or simply click one shape then hold control and click other shape should active merge button)

Hi there! love the tutorial, and I have PPt ver 16 on MAC, and I cannot get the Merge button to be active...I couldn't cut out the letters.. any clues anyone?

It's not Winodws that's PowerPoint. In PowerPoint 2007 no Merge Shapes. In PowerPoint 2001, you have to enable them - watch my video on that.
