I know this video is quite old, but thanks a lot for saving me so much time wondering why the wrong shape was subtracted! Would have never guessed that it depends on the order of selecting the shapes.
Thank you for teaching us but sir can you please tell us how to sellect (cammond) multiple object for grouping and ungrouping. Etc. If possible please make a video ... thank you hope you understand my quary ...
Hello mate, I actually already have. You just press down CTRL and click on each object separately. Here is a video which goes more into details: ua-cam.com/video/CdixvIZYvEw/v-deo.html
You need to select multiple objects, it will NEVER be possible to use this feature with 1 object because the entire idea revolves around merging / subtracting more than one shape :) Try adding a few, selecting all of them and try to combine them then. Let me know if it worked
Yep, that is true, sadly! Too bad the Microsoft developers don't give occasional updates to older versions to add crucial features. This option was added in PowerPoint 2013 and we can't do anything about it :/ The only way is to update powerpoint to a newer version.
Bill, I cannot believe that! Only if you use the MAC version there might be a problem, yeah :/ But the Windows PC version 2013 from what I know as you also saw in my video has the merge shapes option is available once you select shapes. You must be sure you have selected two shapes, not pictures or something other!
Once the shape has been punched out, you end up with two shapes but power point still considers it as one. The question is: How do you separate the two shapes to become individual shapes???
Of course they are considered as one, how would powerpoint know if you separated them into 1,2,5, or 30 elements :) You can work around that by duplicating the object, CTRL+C then CTRL + V on it, then punch out the left one, after that on the copied object punch out the right one, and you have two separate smaller objects as you wanted :)
Always tell what version you use. PPT 2007 doesn't have it. In PPT 2010 you have to manually add it to your Ribbon in the options (there are tutorials about that). In 2013 2016 and 2019 is it available.
Don't worry Heba, it works! Just watch my selection video ua-cam.com/video/CdixvIZYvEw/v-deo.html or use shift (hold it) and click on anything you need
Lokesh what do you exactly mean after enabling? Merge shapes works 100%, the only thing you need to keep in mind that you need to have at least 2 shapes selected (shapes, not pictures) in order for merge shapes to be active. PowerPoint must have something to merge (like 2 rectangles or a rectangle and circle etc.) in order to work :)
That is not possible Lokesh. Make sure that you don't select grouped items. If items are in a group they can't be used to merge. If you use 2 shapes from PowerPoint (added by Insert > shapes > and added to the slide) then it works 100% just as I have shown in the video. I've done it multiple times over all versions since 2013 (2016 2019 and 365)

I consider it old but gold because nothing changed in that regard so it could be just as well a PPT 2019 video and nothing would be else here :D
Thank you! Very helpful and and thorough!
You are very very welcome, thanks!
Great video! Thanks a lot man!
You are very welcome! :)
Much much useful than the 10minute one that showed ne nothing so goodjob
Thank you very much, one of my oldest, "classic" tutorial by now :D
Thanks for the great lesson.
My pleasure!

Thank you very much Farid Jani! Appreciate you watching and commenting, that helps! :)

@@andrewpach is there a way to do this in google slides?
Thanks
No problemo! :)
How do I delete an empty box in arrange order I can't do that. Accessibility keeps telling me to reorder it.
FILE > OPTIONS > ACCESSIBILITY -> you can turn it off there if you don't need it at this point. Yeah it can be sometimes misleading
@@andrewpach Thanks, I will try that. I ended up deleting the slide.
What a brutal solution. I love it tho ;)
@@andrewpach 😹
How do you do this on google slides?
Hello Joel, I don't use Google Slides and am not sure if such a functionality exists there!
Sir merge shape option is not present in power point 2010.......

Great idea and a great way to cleverly use the punch out/subtract feature. Thanks!!
You are very welcome, hope that helped and you will easily work with it now !
Yes it did. After a couple of years in PPT the mystery is solved thanks to you.
I can't find the merge shapes botton! Please help me it's for the school

When I select intersect, all are deleted. What am I doing wrong?
It is important what you select first and what second. you must use shapes. I can't relly answer without seeing what happens on your slide.
@@andrewpach I have made video of it. I really want to learn it.😬😬😬
