Love the fact that it's a dvr with a screen. I'm typically using the dvr footage for playback to find a lost quad and this would obviously be much easier to use than the dvr in the goggles. Unfortunately at its current price point ($90) I believe this is a product looking for a problem to solve, but at $50 this is a problem solver. Great review!
Agreed, it's a little expensive. I think I'll probably get one eventually, but it's hard to justify buying one right away at that price. Especially when you consider you are probably going to want to buy at least two sets of batteries and a charger for them as well if you are going to switch over to this.
You are right, at just under $90 it should be able to stand alone like the spektrum version. I believe I will make a video on that little fpv screen dvr.
I just bought a power play unit and couldn’t get it to work watched a few UA-cam reviews then watched yours and you mentioned the AV plug needed to be pushed in hard ( fixed the problem) Thank You very much Cheers
Best DVR? In a word, no. Best DVR in the FPV world? Probably. Points to note that I have discovered from extensive testing of mine: 1) It only charges when the unit is turned off, when it's turned on and has USB power it stops charging and only uses USB power. 2) When it's turned on and powered by USB, it doesn't output power for goggles. 3) It draws ~800mA from USB when charging, the cells charge at a rate of ~360mA which means a potential 3.8 hours charge time from flat with the 1400mAh cells, and a potential 5.6 hours with the suggested 2040mAh cells. 4) The deinterlacing it does is basic, a bit better than the FXT DVR, but it's not perfect, see my recent video and follow the instructions in the description of "ImmersionRC PowerPLAY DVR vs FatShark vs Canopus ADVC-100" 5) The unit I have doesn't work properly with my RapidFire in mode 1, the up/down jumpiness is severe in that mode. I've emailed ImmersionRC to see what's up with that. 6) It has a tiny battery soldered onto the main board which keeps the date+time even when you remove the batteries to swap them out for others or to charge them faster than the DVR can. 7) The 2x, 4x & 8x playback speeds (backwards and forwards) are not smooth like the DVR in Fat Shark goggles, this is because the PowerPLAY records in h264, where it has a keyframe and then interframes which are derivatives of the previous frame, so if you have 1 keyframe and 9 interframes, to view the 6th frame the software has to decode the keyframe and then the subsequent interframes frames to get to that 6th frame, whereas the Fat Shark DVR records in MJPEG, essentially a stream of jpeg images which lacks quality but the playback device doesn't need to decode any previous frames to view a specific frame which means the playback can instantly skip 8 frames at a time. 8) It doesn't have a voltage booster to stop your Fat Sharks etc. beeping with a low power warning, I think this is a good thing because otherwise you probably wouldn't get any warning that everything is about to shut down. The PowerPLAY does have a beeper but not as loud as Fat Sharks one. 9) You can't read the recorded files through the USB-C connection plugged into a computer, yet, Tony Cake said this planned to be added in a firmware upgrade. 10) The recording bitrate is (from looking at my flight videos) roughly 1 megabyte per second, so a 32GB card will be able to store in the region of 8.4 hours footage (124 4-minute flights).
@Dan Sp You're welcome, I was hoping this would be the only DVR I'd ever want, but in my scale of quality (which goes very high) it's not good enough regarding its deinterlacing capability, and with it not being compatible with my RapidFire in mode 1, it might be sent back for a refund. I may add more details if I find some worth adding to the list.
@Rodolfo The PowerPLAY provides a better picture & user experience with regards to recording & playback with the built-in screen, but its recording quality is not that much better than the FXT DVR which I didn't buy because its deinterlacing technique is also basic and poor. For what I paid for the PowerPLAY I expected much better, especially RapidFire compatibility.
Hi Nick, thanks for the review. I actually like the concept and pre-ordered one a week ago and await delivery. Here is why: 1) I have never regretted purchasing a Immersionrc product. 2) I don't usually use HD camers or GoPros (due to micros). Having that said, alternative ways to record has been a topic. 3) Recording and powering my goggles is a '2-bird 1-stone' for me. 4) The specs of this DVR looks great on paper. 5) It is compact and looks cool.
I second the ev800d! I wear a set of SZ 02s goggle, and record the DVR footage with the ev800d goggle DVR, it is by far the best built-in DVR I've seen @ 720 x 576 full frame record! You should check that out, Nick!
Looks good i just purchased one have'nt received it yet. From your video looks exactly what i need, the drone that i fly has no space for gopro or other video camera. Thank you for your instructional video.
I purchased one and I'm excited to try it. I fly mostly 5 inch and micros only for winter time. If you ask me, fatshark dvr mostly sucks and it's a bit cumbersome to operate. For a racer like me, I'll probably use Powerplay to check my cameras (av input), power my goggles and help me find my quad on those odd times. With the better dvr quality, I can also use it to study race lines from other pilots. Having to replace the battery almost immediately is a bit of a disappointment. It looks like the image on the left is sharper and smoother.
Nice comparison video. You recorded in PAL 25/50fps but uploaded in 1080/60. Even so, on the side by side comparison I can see more detail and less image blur in the PowerPlay footage when I hit pause on UA-cam.
For me the DVR recording is important. I would have not lost a quad one year ago if the Fatshark footage had been so difficult to replay. I had to move the sdcard to the phone and even with that, the number of images per second was not enough to find it quickly. I think that someone took it, while I was looking in the wrong place. Definitely good item, but it could be cheaper.
Maybe my imagination, but I believe that the powerplay image looked slightly sharper. If it indeed records better quality, then perhaps it's worth it for those running micros without HD recording options.
I don't think I'd use this, but I'm glad you will be! I think it does a better job than either of the built-in dvrs as so many others have said. I don't have a bunch of quads like you do, so if I want better, I'd be more interested in the Diamond DVR/VTX or the Runcam DVR or a Tarsier or split for my "bigger" 3" quad.
first flight today and my thoughts ? YES YES YES !!!! aquto recording is a life saver. I LOVE this thing. I a ordering another to keep with my Docking !
Great testing and flying, Nick! 😃 To be honest... I don't think it's any better than the goggles DVRs you tested. Maybe for goggles that have bad DVRs, but in your case I don't see much advantage.
Great little bit of gear. If I hadn't recently bought a FuriousFPV smart power case I'd buy this for sure. The Powerplay footage towards the end in the 3 side by side view was noticeably better quality.
It looks good and as a pilot at all an extra DVR option is always good wen a crash inevitably happens... on another note I almost exclusively watch UA-cam on my phone +98% or more. Thanks for sharing again and as always grate review and points made! 🍻cheers🥃
I guess I'm asking myself -- is this merely sharpened with the black and white tone spread correctly? (ie. blacks are true black). Can I suggest a test to do in future videos? The ol optician's eye chart test with text is perfect, but generally how well text can be discerned in general will instantly tell you how much detail you can get from a camera/dvr.
PP image looks great. Sharper and smoother. I don't have DVR built in to my goggles (Attitude V3) so this is something I might buy if the price were a bit lower. Say around £40 or £50. I would like to see some extra FW features like auto record options and the ability to turn the screen off to save some power.
Looks like a nice option. I was surprise at nearly double the data rate of PAL over NTSC. I know you have 576 lines in PAL compared to 480 in NTSC but double the data rate make me think maybe I should get a PAL camera ;-) Excellent review as always! See you in the Air!
The power play is definatly better especially in the turns, however the form factor is a bit cumbersome to wear. At the end of the day it is great for micro pilots such as yourself Nick. I fly 5" freestyle for the goPro 7 buttery smoothness.
I bought one yet to arrive so I can use it on a ground station for long range fpv flying, I think it's nice as a recorder and screen to have mounted on the tripod part of the set up...
All I do with DVR is record lat/long from GPS on long range rigs. just not necessary to have an extra DVR when I just need to see the numbers to seldom locate a lost rig.
Great video of what looks to be a wonderful product :) The higher FPS for me is the real winner as DVR from my goggles has always been a bit of a let down (EV800d, Cmdr v2) compared to the live feed. I will be getting one of these
I'd really like to put the clock ahead 5 years as when it comes to FPV googles, the most important part of the FPV system along with the VRX and built in DVR needed to help find a lost model, progress has been painfully slow due to the manufacturing costs and relatively small FPV market to support them. So with that said I'd like a better in-goggle DVR for recording certain flights but also have the choice of using a lower resolution recording to limit data storage requirements on most flights. At some point I will start using a ground station for some flights and that's the only situation where I would consider using an external DVR as the ease of just slipping on my HD2's is so easy and the performance with a good camera and VRX works well enough to feed the addiction keeping the complexity to an absolute minimum. Agree with comments pointing out Powerplay appears sharper and smoother but have learned what you see on a UA-cam video is not necessarily what you will see through the googles due to editing and other issues. But it seems like Nick did a great job comparing the differences and wonder how he has the time to pull off so many informative videos that require real time editing.
Ended up staring at that twig in the background the entire video, that’s a super clean looking little micro! All kidding aside I am super excited to get that power play in the mail so tired of my FatShark DVR
very good thoughts and analysis. As I have read through the comments I have been thinking of other ways I might need to demonstrate the product. If for nothing else, if I should use it or not on the channel. I haven't spent much time worrying about pal vs ntsc, I did try a quad with an ntsc camera as the powerplay/goggles seem to auto detect the signal. I think I can kill two birds with one stone making two videos while do flight testing for one. I will work on that. Stay tuned.
@@NickBurnsFPV I'd be really happy to see primarily PowerPlay footage on your channel when you review other products like new quads! Please make this happen.
Very important, i just forgot recording my dvr and lost my micro 2" with 1 week old caddx turtle v2 into the Bush. Powerplay much sharper and clearer footage with 60fps compare to HDO and 030. NICE!
Powerplay looks less choppy and a little crisper. Wonder how good an onboard version of just the dvr would look on a higher tvl cam. To me it def seems worth it for micros.
looks pretty good. esp the screen is very helpful. i do not use beeper at all because they annoy me. usual patch antenna is enough to find my quad but if not i always use my goggles dvr. would be much easier to find a quad with the screen on the dvr-recorder instead of putting goggles on and off to forward/backward till finding the crash. esp in the middle of the forest.
Great video. The question I have, is do you think the recording is better than the skyzones which I have too. Secondly am i missing out by not updating the firmware on the skyzones. Ive had them for a little over a week and a few flights and its not recording every time. I also fly whoops a little and would like to know if the video is that much better to warrant the cost.
If it means anything, I am not using the power play, I think the color is better with the skyzon 03O dvr. I have done the dvr update as of a few weeks ago.
I am very much interested in DVR footage. I don't even own a GoPro camera. Have a cheap SJCAM SJ4000, which is really poor compared to a GoPro. Extremely unreliable white balance, oversharpened image and low framerate. I have a 3", a 2,5" regular quadcopter and just recently have built an FPV Cycle (Kabab FPV) Babytooth. It has 110 mm frame, 3" props and mine came out exactly 60 g AUW with 520 mAh 1S battery on XT30 and XM+ RX and Eachine Nano VTX. I have fallen into love with this size of quad, I might even build a similar sized, but much more potent FPV Cycle TP3, when the new AIO board comes out. That one won't be able to carry HD camera either, so a good analogue camera and good DVR recording is crucial for me. I actually enjoy the occasional static on the footage, adds to the reality feeling for me at least.
The Powerplay looks smoother and has slightly better colours. To me it is not worth the $90 but for you who needs the DVR for UA-cam it probably is worth it.
Hey Nick great info in the Video mate. I fly 90% micro's although I'm just starting to fly my 5 incher's around the back yard. DVR is important to me and I only have eachine EV200D goggles hence only one very old Video on my channel. this could be a very simple solution as my video has never recorded very well. as for yours, I thought it looked fine and if it is simpler for you to use then definitely go with it.
I can see this being used a number of different ways.... Image does look slightly better than skyzone dvr. Would be a simple plug n play DVR/power setup for goggles that don't have dvr built in (instead of pulling apart goggles & wiring in one of the eachine dvrs). It would be a great dvr for a base station (long range/wings, etc...). The playback function is also a plus with it's own screen.
I think the value of this product to a reviewer would be higher than just the average hobbyist. I don't even use my DVR 95% of the time. If I do it's in unfamiliar locations as an aid to finding a downed craft. To be honest I fly for the joy of flying at the time. Everyone else I know has zero interest in seeing my powerloops and split S's. I realised quite early that most friends would have bundled me in with model train enthusiasts and stamp collectors...... I'd much rather spend $90 on beer and crisps. Maybe just me tho. Nice video as always.
Looks like the Powerplay has the same problem I saw on a facebook post. Field order is wrong. Go to 2:16 where the quad isn't moving and pause. Then use the comma and period keys to move one frame at a time and look at how the Powerplay image jumps up and down where the other two recordings don't. It makes for jittery video and jagged lines. It's just wrong.
Hi Nick Great video and review of the immersion RC Powerplay. I don't know if I would use this or not, first My DVR is very important to me. When I fly around my house I don't use my DVR that much but when I fly at my field and I just get lost flying around the trees and sometimes I need my DVR to find where I crashed, to me this product is to much, it has some nice features and files though , if I was comparing it to the watch I would choose the watch. Your not hooked up to your google's so you can hand it to a friend and walk away. I know that there are better ways to record and watch your videos on a 5in. screen, diversity, record and you can use them as a box Google and it's cheaper but it's more bigger than the power play and more weight. Thanks again for the info and video.
How did you render this video? My understanding is if you use 30fps Fatshark dvr and have 60fps footage from the powerplay. So it would input duplicate frames on the 30fps version. I have it working on a review as well. From my one and only flight I did quality looked the same... but I was also using a old sd card that was type 1 I purchased a type 3 so we will see how it does
I pretty much only us U3 cards now, U1 cards in the radios. I do think you have a good point of the framerate. I didn't scale the dvr footagest to 60fps, so they all got re-rendered. I have been thinking about pre-rendering the dvr footage and do another sample.
hoa this must have been a lot of work! Thanks for the comparison. hm... $90....I don't know that seems like an awful lot of money...dvr is nice but a $15 eachine dvr seems to work fine if you don't have one built in...it's nice as a ride-along I guess...but there's the EV900D...so...hm...
I have one... and I also have the FXT DVR. Powerplay is _way_ easier to work with, and the quality is nicer as well, especially with the RapidFIRE module! The FXT DVR needs you to transcode the video files before you drop them into Davinci or Premier before editing, whereas everything "just works" with Powerplay's H.264 files. Also, it beeps! FXT's doesn't beep and has no screen; recording status is iffy. Encoding format is hardware, so I doubt they can fix anything with firmware updates. I'd say, Powerplay... or a Raspberry Pi w/ EasyCap dongle are your two best options for compact high quality field recording. Skip the FXT DVR unless you've got a fast GPU for transcoding.
For my whoops i tend not to use DVR, since i fly in my house and backyard, so they wont ever get real lost. And i dont have much use for the video from DVR other than finding the quad again. On my larger quads though i have used it, mostly as a backup way to find the quad. But it has been a very limited ammount of times where i have felt the need for DVR as backup. 90$ for the PowerPlay seems perfectly fine, although it seems to aimed only at Fatshark users?
I fly farther away, and get more breakup than you, Does this dvr record closer to what you see in the fpv feed, my stock dvr breaks up way more than the feed. I think 90 bucks is a bit pricey, 60-65 I wouldnt hesitate if it records better. Im on a phone so quality is something I cant see well enough to comment on. 1 last question, can someone watch the dvr screen as your flying? As always, great review Nick, thanks, and take care!
I am not all that certain the recording is more accurate or not. I am thinking/working on another test while also testing another product. I am thinking of trying a few things. The screen is displaying live what we are seeing in the googles. I suspect some sort of delay/latency, but yes others can what us fly from the screen.
Dvr looks a lot smoother on the powerplay. I wouldn't pay that much for it as I'm pretty happy with my fatshark dvr. Were it less than $50 I'd consider it, but for the price presented I would probably spend the money on spare parts for my quads instead.
Can you keep your fat shark 18650 batteries to power the goggles, then use this unit to just record dvr and not power the goggles? If so, how much more recording time do you gain? Thanks Nick!
Great comparison! I saw someone else post a comparison and it was really hard to tell the difference, must have been the compression of the video they uploaded. Here I see a real, large difference in quality even outside of the fact that it's 60fps. It's expensive but I think it's worth it. I do fly whoops and micros alot though. I wish the interface was better for navigating quickly through videos. That Fatshark style fast forward/rewind is horribly slow, it's probably faster most times to plug the sdcard into your phone so you can quickly seek around in the video. I can also see this being way easier to use when setting up a quad and testing video. It's nice not to have to choose between putting the goggles on or finding your dedicated monitor. Little monitor built in right there.
@@NickBurnsFPV yeah, I just mean you could use your goggles as a monitor while they are sitting on the table when doing stuff like setting up your osd. Instead of putting them on and not being able to see what you are doing in Betaflight, which can be annoying.
what batteries did u use in the goggle power play 18500 rare mah ? where did you fund them i have plenty 18650's and will 18500 flat tops fit in power play??
It does look the best. I have one. Got a good deal on brand new. It made my HDO'S flash and tint the screen red and they wouldn't pick up the OSD from my laforge module. After powering up several times they straitened out. I was almost sick that my gogs were toast. So now I'm afraid to try again. What did I do wrong. Want to use it with my Clearview 2.0 but kinda scared to
It does look moderately better but not enough to justify $90 when the goggles also have a DVR. If this was a stand alone version that would be a different story.
Full framerate and clearly a much more competent encoder in the powerplay. Also seems it captures the whole frame rather than just chopping off the safe frame margins like the fatshark and skyzone dvr. I'd be interested but not at 90USD. I would hope for a cheaper variant with no battery bay (usb or xt30/60 passthrough only maybe) half or quarter screen with no onboard playback.
Unfortunately it does chop off the safe frame margins, see my recent video "ImmersionRC PowerPLAY DVR vs FatShark vs Canopus ADVC-100" and look at how close the to the edge of the frame the OSD is on the PowerPLAY compared to the Canopus which captures the full frame with no cropping.
Awesome review nick. Thanks. The image looks way sharper and clearer than the fat shark and sky zone. However for $90 it's a useless product for the average Joe. Like you said i believe is very useful if you fly micros and you want quality footage for UA-cam or any other reason.
I live in the north East here in Massachusetts and with the cold weather coming quick I’m definitely looking into getting more indoor and would definitely like this to record seems a lot better then the goggle dvr
🤔What do you think? Is it better than other DVRs? Is it worth $90?🧐 RDQ bit.ly/RDQ-PowerPlay PyroDrone bit.ly/Pyro-PowerPlay Banggood bit.ly/BG-PowerPlay
Not much of a difference between hdo and the power play recording, adding more cables and more batteries to charge without any significant image improvement it’s a pass for me. I do fly micros and 5inch quads and main purpose of dvr is to find the quad. In probably 6months we will have he recording on a small factor camera
Thanks Nick! I love new products, but I really only use dvr as back-up for finding my quads and planes. No one needs to see how awesome my flying is:-)
I do fly micros from time to time and I do like good DVR recordings. But I don't like the hassle of lugging yet another device around just for a rather small improvement. Also, I feel Fatshark should really come up with a better DVR for their top models. MJPEG is ok for providing smooth forward/rewind functionality but the bitrate is just not high enough.
Like you said, how important is it to you. If it makes working on your vids easier or if you like watching a lot of your recordings, it's totally worth it. For me, it's not important at all.
The screen shows the input video in realtime when recording or ready to record, so yes it's good for spectators. It only has one AV socket which is for input only (as far as I know) and doesn't output video through that during playback of recorded flights on its screen.
I'm looking for a DVR that recordes in high-def to because I plug it in the other cameras that if this does that it would be good for me looking into it now
Fatsharks have dvr, so are you just paying for the convenience of a screen or does this work better for dvr than the fatsharks. I have the hd3 but I have not used my dvr as of yet lol
Just the fact I don’t need to hurt my fingers while shouting out names to the goggles every time in need to get the SD card out of my Fatshark’s, it’s a thumbs up for me. But the price is out of my reach unfortunately.
hey an external dvr should help ya out! seems as good or better than the source goggle recording. the 18500 battery need turns me off. i have 50+ 18650 but no 18500 button heads.
J have been getting some serious breakup from my fatshark dvr. Breakup I do not see in the googles. I am really wondering if this would fix my video. I have been waiting for some reviews. Does it have a regulator to push the voltage up for fatshark to avoid the low battery warning ?
Have you updated the firmware of your FatShark DVR? Joshua Bardwell did a video called "Fat Shark DVR New Firmware Update FIXES RAPIDFIRE DVR BLACK SCREEN", the firmware is from ImmersionRC, they fixed an issue FatShark couldn't or wouldn't, the update may help with your image breakup problem.
It doesn't have a boost regulator, it connects the batteries straight to the goggle power output. Also, it'll only charge when it's turned off, and won't output goggle power when is receiving power from USB.
Gday Nick, mate you find it handy for recording your videos for me flying over at my local park if i lose my micro i could take that unit with me (better screen than looking through your goggles) play back the footage to help find my micro, it would be very handy, great review mate. 👍🛸
Dvr hasnt been too important to me. I just started posting fpv videos though and now my aomway dvr isn't cutting it. I also have an eachine eb800d that should have better dvr.
Yeah but for 84 bucks you can get the spektrum 4.5" screen with DVR and it is solid and has a realy good reciever in it and high quality monitor. The fact it does not work alone means it is a bit expensive for what it is however, if it has a on off button that controls the fatsharks that would be helpful and if you have a diversity module in your goggles then technically it should be able to keep a realy good signal however, the spektrum has always been the same or better at reception than the trueD V3 module I have. The spektrum one can mount to your radio and is a large enough screen that, you can fly with it. Basically, if it has the power on-off it would be nice, and I like the idea of being able to put it on the goggles with the addition of the top strap but, there are other solutions that are as good if not better and are lower cost as well.
@@NickBurnsFPV It is what we do, Try to save others time and money. I can't even imagine how much money I lost because of junk products, or trying to save money. word of wisdom, do not skimp on the radio you get, it will not save you money and you will wind up with dust collectors like me.
The image on the Powerplay is sharper and the framerate looks smoother as well. I would just use that from now on.
Agreed. Frame rates are so often off on these DVRs. This one is great.
Actually it's the opposite and the skyzone data rate proves it has more details
????
Skyzone 03: 6 Mbps
Power play: 15 Mbps....
@@cedricgrandseigne no. Skyzone has better bitrate
That's not what the specification says...

Regarding the price point, I could not have put it better!
Great, strange how firm we have to press in the plug. Glad you got it sorted.
Best DVR? In a word, no.
Best DVR in the FPV world? Probably.
Points to note that I have discovered from extensive testing of mine:
1) It only charges when the unit is turned off, when it's turned on and has USB power it stops charging and only uses USB power.
4) The deinterlacing it does is basic, a bit better than the FXT DVR, but it's not perfect, see my recent video and follow the instructions in the description of "ImmersionRC PowerPLAY DVR vs FatShark vs Canopus ADVC-100"
5) The unit I have doesn't work properly with my RapidFire in mode 1, the up/down jumpiness is severe in that mode.
Thank you a lot for adding so much detailed information!
Excellent review! These are all the little things I want to know before jumping in.
I buy a FTX DVR. No more money to ImmersionRC after Capacitor FIASCO..... What do you think about it?
@Rodolfo The PowerPLAY provides a better picture & user experience with regards to recording & playback with the built-in screen, but its recording quality is not that much better than the FXT DVR which I didn't buy because its deinterlacing technique is also basic and poor.
For what I paid for the PowerPLAY I expected much better, especially RapidFire compatibility.
This is exactly what i need for all my Whoop DVR !
Hi Nick, thanks for the review. I actually like the concept and pre-ordered one a week ago and await delivery. Here is why:
1) I have never regretted purchasing a Immersionrc product.
I have 200D and 800D and the 800D dvr is better with a higher bit rate.
Power play definitely has the best quality playback. I recently purchased the FXT DVR from GetFPV. I love the features, and the $60 price tag.
The power play is definitely smoother and sharper.. Thx Nick. nice review .
To be honest... I don't think it's any better than the goggles DVRs you tested. Maybe for goggles that have bad DVRs, but in your case I don't see much advantage.
I definitely want one now. Thanks for the video
Great little bit of gear. If I hadn't recently bought a FuriousFPV smart power case I'd buy this for sure. The Powerplay footage towards the end in the 3 side by side view was noticeably better quality.
Definitely best image, and seems to filter breakup better than the other two also. Worth $90.
Powerplay look supeeer with that 60fps!
It looks good and as a pilot at all an extra DVR option is always good wen a crash inevitably happens... on another note I almost exclusively watch UA-cam on my phone +98% or more.
Thanks for sharing again and as always grate review and points made!
🍻cheers🥃
For what you do it's perfect.
Hey Nick the DVR is very important to me. Nice little device. 👍👍👍👍👍Great review
PP image looks great. Sharper and smoother. I don't have DVR built in to my goggles (Attitude V3) so this is something I might buy if the price were a bit lower. Say around £40 or £50. I would like to see some extra FW features like auto record options and the ability to turn the screen off to save some power.
Great product & Great review!!!!
👍😀👍
Hope you & the family have a good weekend!!!!
I think it looks great Nick thanks for the very informative video
Looks like a very clear winner :) nice clean very clear view
I bought one yet to arrive so I can use it on a ground station for long range fpv flying, I think it's nice as a recorder and screen to have mounted on the tripod part of the set up...
rotormasher I want to do the same thing. How long is each clip before it starts a new clip?
@@mikestevens3570 banggood messed my order up so I got a refund, probably not going to buy it now lol
All I do with DVR is record lat/long from GPS on long range rigs. just not necessary to have an extra DVR when I just need to see the numbers to seldom locate a lost rig.
Great video of what looks to be a wonderful product :)
The higher FPS for me is the real winner as DVR from my goggles has always been a bit of a let down (EV800d, Cmdr v2) compared to the live feed. I will be getting one of these
Great job on the review Nick!
That "TWIG" ads on the upper corner ! Love you Nick burns he he he ! thank you for your great review !
lol, love to remind the masses of "the one". The copy review will be coming in the next week or so.
love it nick! Will put the channel on another level man! definitely not a waste .
EDIT: SORRY THIS GOT REALLY, REALLY LONG
First off, thank you for all the videos you dish out. Great video on this piece of hardware too.
very good thoughts and analysis.
Recording quality looks pretty good.
Thanks for this! Had my eye on it since I saw it on getFPV. Definitely an improvement but I was honestly hoping for more improvement.
@@NickBurnsFPV lol yes it means something
I was hoping these would be on the same level as the fatshark scouts/recon DVR...doesn't quite get there. Still a great little product.
The OSD is to me a bit of a video game element or the fighter jet HUD.
The higher frame rate plays back much smoother to my eye. Noticeably better resolution also. I would say stick with it!
I do see that, I had not noticed it. What would cause something like that.
@@NickBurnsFPV hard to say the cause, bad firmware or hardware. Nothing you can do to control or avoid it.
Do you know what the MAX SD Card is for power play? is it still 32gb?
I am fairly sure I used a 64GB card in mine.
@@NickBurnsFPV thank you!!
I like the idea of a backup DVR as an aid to finding a lost micro.
sure does make playback easier than using goggle playback
I do strongly prefer flying
For my whoops i tend not to use DVR, since i fly in my house and backyard, so they wont ever get real lost. And i dont have much use for the video from DVR other than finding the quad again. On my larger quads though i have used it, mostly as a backup way to find the quad. But it has been a very limited ammount of times where i have felt the need for DVR as backup. 90$ for the PowerPlay seems perfectly fine, although it seems to aimed only at Fatshark users?
I suspect the primary target market is fatshark users, but it will also work with goggle that have AV out.
I fly everything from whoops to 6" but I think I spend the most time on 2.5"
Did your HDO's have the immersion DVR update?
No, Now that I used the 03O as my daily drivers I will likely do it soonish.
nice review. I thought the sky03o was the better dvr than fatshert.. but THIS roxks! 👍
Can you keep your fat shark 18650 batteries to power the goggles, then use this unit to just record dvr and not power the goggles? If so, how much more recording time do you gain? Thanks Nick!
Yes, goggles and Power play can be powered from different sources. I did not test this configuration.
It’s the solution I was looking for . I just switched all my furious smart batteries
I might be reading this wrong. As to the desk or build use we do need the goggles for reception to put out to the PowerPlay.
@@NickBurnsFPV yeah, I just mean you could use your goggles as a monitor while they are sitting on the table when doing stuff like setting up your osd. Instead of putting them on and not being able to see what you are doing in Betaflight, which can be annoying.
Gotcha. I worried I created confusion of the features of the PowerPlay.
what batteries did u use in the goggle power play 18500 rare mah ? where did you fund them i have plenty 18650's and will 18500 flat tops fit in power play??
I used EBL 18500s. I used them in my x-lite as well.
Want to use it with my Clearview 2.0 but kinda scared to
maybe was it not plugged in all the way? They can need a pretty firm "click" in.
WickedStix FPV I am flying in Providence Rhode Island so I am doing the same. Trying to set up for a ton of indoor flights this winter.
North east Mass here myself. I'm outside everyday I can before the cold really sets in.
Nice review
🤔What do you think? Is it better than other DVRs? Is it worth $90?🧐

Not much of a difference between hdo and the power play recording, adding more cables and more batteries to charge without any significant image improvement it’s a pass for me. I do fly micros and 5inch quads and main purpose of dvr is to find the quad. In probably 6months we will have he recording on a small factor camera
Have you had a chance to try out the fxt dvr? It records at 60fps as well for about $60.
I did when I reviewed those goggles. I gave them away, I don't have them to compare.
I wonder if fatshark will ever up their dvr game, seems that has been a top user request for the last couple iterations.
Still waiting for it from getfpv Nick where did you get yours from?
I pre-ordered from pyrodrone.com
For $60 I would get it. I have the attitude v3s so no DVR. Biggest benefit is definitely the frame rate.
I would be curious to have a comparison with the watch eachine rd200 that have DVR functionality
Like you said, how important is it to you. If it makes working on your vids easier or if you like watching a lot of your recordings, it's totally worth it.
For me, it's not important at all.
So just to confirm, it does NOT output video while it’s recording? Would be super cool as a spectator screen for ride-alongs.
The screen shows the input video in realtime when recording or ready to record, so yes it's good for spectators.
It only has one AV socket which is for input only (as far as I know) and doesn't output video through that during playback of recorded flights on its screen.
It does output video while flying.
Thank you for the video , it is a nice product , everything I've used from immersion RC has been good
That twig looks so cool man .. And im first whooo who
Just the fact I don’t need to hurt my fingers while shouting out names to the goggles every time in need to get the SD card out of my Fatshark’s, it’s a thumbs up for me. But the price is out of my reach unfortunately.
hey an external dvr should help ya out! seems as good or better than the source goggle recording. the 18500 battery need turns me off. i have 50+ 18650 but no 18500 button heads.
The battery size is a bit of a downer if we have a collection of the more popular size.
PowerPlay dvr looks better then others to me
The DVR on the 03O's, looks better to me.
Has better clarity and detail to me.
Nick what cells are those red ones?
EBL from amazon amzn.to/39qixxZ
looks great to me.just a little expensive though.
Nice break down, thank you.
@@NickBurnsFPV It is what we do, Try to save others time and money. I can't even imagine how much money I lost because of junk products, or trying to save money.
word of wisdom, do not skimp on the radio you get, it will not save you money and you will wind up with dust collectors like me.
Could this be used with a dock station instead of a goggle? That could be worth it as the antennae dont move due to "FPV lean"
Would be better than the dvr on my ev100. Worth the price.
I just had a whole day of racing and my HDO’s failed to capture any of it. This is my second tome it has happened and I’m hoping this will solve it.
dang. Maybe a bad sd card? I have heard the dvr can go bad.
@@NickBurnsFPV That's what people have told me. After reading/watching the powerplay at work I'm happy I got it to rely on instead.
