Animatic by me @JamieWoolleyArt
(Snufkin’s saying some Big Words coming from someone who was essentially either freaking out or on the verge of freaking out over Moomin being gone for the entire book haha)
I actually really liked Moominvalley in November. I felt like it was a very apt and powerful look at grief, that doesn’t shy away from the negative feelings while still managing to feel uplifting. This scene really stuck with me.
Bonus points for Toft leaving this conversation and then a little while later being like “Why does everyone even like that guy anyway??” I laughed so hard ahaha.
There is no sound for this video don’t worry.
What else would you like to see from me animatic wise? I’d love suggestions that already include voice acting!
Transcript from the scene:
TOFT: Are you there? Little Nummulite, how are you?
NUMMULITE: GROWLS
TOFT: It’s me, Toft.
SNUFKIN: It’s going to be a wooden-spoon… Were you frightened by something?
TOFT: There is no family any longer. They’ve deceived me.
SNUFKIN: I don’t believe that. Perhaps they just want to be in peace for a while.
SNUFKIN: There’s the sugar. They’re sure to come home some time.
TOFT: Some time! She must come now, she’s the only one I care about!
SNUFKIN: I wonder what it is that Moominmamma cares about...
TOFT: ……
SNUFKIN: You want to be careful not to let things get too big!
Thanks everyone!
That last Snufkin's sentence was one of my faves from that book. Snufkin showed a lot of wisdom there. Poor Toft tho. This animatic is amazing!
To think that Tove wrote this after losing her mom is so heartbreaking
Toft: *”She must come now! She’s the only one I care about”*
Snufkin: **shrugs**

I’m upset how little attention this is getting

im slowly reading the moomin books for the first time and i keep getting more and more evidence that i will never be ready for the last book....
Where you reading?
Just watch all the series afterwards. The newest series, moomin valley, is still ongoing, so you’ll never have moomin deficiency :D
@@justpeache.5274 but i wanna read the books :"((
Niina con atrofia cerebral ah sorry ;,(
Same here.
*These blow my mind and make my day everytime i see them in my feed. Thank you for your hard work*
Gandalf The Gay I see u everywhere!! Have you committed your life to the moomins? Are you a character from the story who ended up in our dimension and is now watching these to remember old memories of home?
@@catgod6531 *I'm just a simple man, following his religion*
Hhhhh Toft is so underrated and hecking relatable for me as an introverted gremlin with anxiety
Toft is best boy and he looks so sweet in your art style!!!
1:14 the look on his face tho! His face says ‘and moomin is the only one i care about, and yet I’m patient’ gods I love these boys.
First time ever hearing of Toft, and already I want to know more about them
Oh dear, I absolutely love this! The interaction, the expressions and even snufkin's delivery of his last line gave me good chills
poor toft- he wanted answers and went to a pretty wise dude, but got a shrug instead.
Snufkin is so calm and nice! I love him! WHAT A MIGHTY GOOD MAN
If yall havent read this book I would recommend it. At times I read it's so sad but then I feel happy because at the end you can interpret it as how you want to. Anyway love the video 🥰
i love that this is from tove jansson
This was my fave moomin book! If you havent read then you can buy them cheep second hand online. Be ready for the feels! And Snufkin getting what he deserves for being so casual about his friendship with moomintroll.
I dunno about that. Isn't it just the first time he himself had been forced to love with an open hand, as Moomintroll had to with him? Though it's definitely a solid interpretation that Snufkin took the Moomins for granted by never expecting them to leave, I don't think casual is the right word. I doubt he'd stay in one place for 3/4 of the year if that was the case, given his need and desire to wander. Either way, I'm sure their friendship would become even healthier once reunited.
@@ichigoeater yeah, casual isn't the right word. I just don't know the RIGHT word for it. I'm sure there is one. Complacent maybe?
@@cottencandykitten Hmmm...complacent essentially means unworried contentment with the status quo, right? I suppose that IS the word. He didn't see any problem with the situation, nor any need for changes.
@@ichigoeater he also didnt THINK it would change. Like -moomin always writes a letter- is the biggest thing he was complacent about. (Not the letter, but moomin not acting how snufkin thinks he will ) moomin is, in snufkins eyes, predictable?
@@cottencandykitten You know, that's kind of odd for Snufkin, isn't it? Things change around him all the time, he expects and even looks forward to it. Yet, he got blindsided by the Moomins leaving on a whim.
Yup.
Definitely complacent.
holy moly this is so smooth! I love the facial expressions
I didn't know Tove Janssons books were popular outside of Finland and maybe Sweden.
It's been a long time since I read Moominvalley in November so I have to ask: is this the last time we ever see Snufkin in the books?
If so, what a poignant final note he plays for us before hoisting the rucksack onto his back and walking away for the last time.
This is my favorite Moomin- book
Absolutely my favourite of the Moomin books the Moomins aren't even in it! Such a bittersweet story about longing, and solitude, but told in a cosy, kind-hearted story. Jansson's finest work.
This was wonderful!
WHOAAAA! This was AWESOME! I LOVE IT! Watched it twice, so adorable! Absolute perfection!
