    I think Miyamoto's plan has gone pretty well for most of their 2nd and 3rd party adventures given the sales of Link's Adventures and Dread. The only time I remember this idea failing and it going nowhere was with Star Fox Zero + Guard when Nintendo worked with P Games to make it happen. This didn't have any lasting damage outside of the SF IP going mostly doormat outside of crossovers and releasing SF2 for Snes Mini and NSO. Only this plan stays in place for the future and is honed to near perfection so we keep getting a good flow of games from Nintendo's bigger titles and more chances to revive old ones.

    Since we're playing as Zelda, I wonder if she will be silent like Link usually is. Or maybe this is the first mainline game in the series where the protagonist has dialogue beyond the simple player-selected response options.

    What I wanna know is where does F Zone fit into all this? As F Zero hasn’t had a mainline entry into the series since the GameCube release.

    It occurs to me that Echoes of Wisdom seems to be taking some elements from the 2d beta version of Breath of the Wild. The way that fire spreads, in particular, is an obvious visual similarity, so it might be interesting to see if any other showcased features from the BotW 2d beta make an appearance.
    I don't want to read into it too much, but the fact they picked the ALttP/ALBW map for Zelda's first adventure has to be very deliberate. It's a map we've already explored twice, in a series defining game, and then the most recent single-player-focused 2d zelda title (albeit, from 2013). So, for them to let us explore that map one more time, it seems like a prime opportunity - in fact perhaps even a necessity for the sake of keeping the map engaging - to showcase all the benefits of the new approach to Zelda in the 2d (or perhaps it would be better to say, top-down) style.
    Also, congrats on 10k! Well deserved.

      Is it the same map as link to the past? Death mountain seems to be where the lost woods was

    Feels a bit too early to say that Vanpool's closure has really impacted HAL when it only happened a year ago, and HAL has yet to release anything since Return to Dream Land Deluxe. I wouldn't be surprised if HAL's been investing in their own expansion as NCL has been doing to help allow for more releases in-between 3D Kirby games, and also wouldn't be shocked if they tried to hire a fair few Vanpool staff. (I'm hoping they snagged their in-house composers, as their work tends to stick out in a good way.)

    10:36 I think the issue of Federation Force was one more about bad timing than bad game. People just rejected it because they were hoping for a new Prime game (or evwn new mainline Metroid game), and Metroid fans are very particular. Had the game been announced in the middle of a Metroid resurgence, it would have been considered way more favourably (in a way, not unlike how Samus Returns was better considered after the announcement of Prime 4).
    What I mean is, would they have announced a Federation Force port this Direct, it would've been much less shunned, if at all.

    • @orangeslash1667
      @orangeslash1667 Місяць тому

      Federation Force was made by Next Level Games, there not a good choice for a traditional Metroid adventure. Nintendo needed to find a third party studio to make another Metroid, thats why it tool so long.

    I wonder how long the spin-off strategy will continue. One thing that feels like it's mostly a me-problem is that whenever a spin-off does well I want more experiences like it, like more Nintendo Warriors games or Rhythm Zelda games etc etc, but those development teams want to experiment with their own ideas and won't always be available to make something new. Makes you wonder how viable it is to make games like these for more than one game at a time, since outside development partners will not always have plans that align well with Nintendo's plans.

    Have you made a video about Nintendo probably including remakes and smaller games as a way to train teams and create development tools for subsequent new games ? It's very cost effective to have those part of development taking care of (cost wise) by a release with mostly technical work (Prime remaster, link's awakening, Kirby race game, etc.)

    I think SMM2 felt less fun than the original and gave an overall 'daily chores' vibe that mobile titles have, as well as stuff like Tetris 99 and F-Zero 99, which did this better IMO. Ditching 100 Mario Challenge for the Endless Mario Challenge, and how certain unlockables were tied to doing specific things in that game was a big contributor to me, and likely others not enjoying it as much. Other games. Releasing NSMBUD a few months prior likely didn't help sales, either.

      The first Super Mario Maker did indeed have more of a wacky look and feel to it. HOWEVER, as a sequel, I think Super Mario Maker 2 did pretty much everything everyone wanted feom it. More themes, more variants, new style and new elements to work with. It's way cooler to play the levels in it. They feel more like Mario levels

    The failure of Metroid Prime Federation Force is two-fold: 1, it's the first title with Metroid released after Other M. Being a spin-off 6 years after THAT wasn't a smart move by Nintendo at all. Chiding fans about them being 'confused' about it was in January 2016 only made matters worse for it. Having AM2R release, and subsequently taken down just prior to FF's release didn't help matters much, even if peoples' minds were already made up. 2, the game didn't look like Metroid, most importantly visually, and to a less degree structurally. Many compared it to Hunters on DS and thought Hunters looked better visually. Structurally, you're talking about a game similar to Triforce Heroes, which released a year prior on the same system. The niche of that kind of audience was already met, and it was lukewarm at best with similar amounts of problems in both.
