- It's hard to remember which flag goes with which country. So many look the same! Here are some tips and tricks to help you out.

@@doodLphin I just memorised all the flags from almost no knowledge at all to now being able to identify all of them. I found that identifying them is much easier than remembering the colours / order from memory so I turned to these tricks to help remember in more detail

As a Hungarian, I was laughing so hard when you introduced our flag. Thanks for making my day. I think a broccoli topped with rice then paprika from Kalocsa is just as fine as yours. :D

I have similarly thought of Hungary's flag as a white plate of red goulash on a green tablecloth. Similarly for India but with orange curry on top instead (and a wheel pattern on the plate).

to remember the russian flag i visualize snow covering everything (the white on top), then an ocean (blue) because russia is big and is in contact with different oceans, and deep down the water there's the soviet past (red)

Hungary/Bulgaria have an easy trick where because Hungary has white in the middle its hungry because its empty, where as Bulgaria has color in the middle and its bulging.

Holland is a simple region within the country of the Netherlands, not the county itself.

Netherlands. North Holland and South Holland are provinces OF The Netherlands. Calling The Netherlands "Holland" is like calling Germany "Bayern" or calling Canada "Quebéc".
He's still saying Holland to this day; that Quebécer, living north of Texas; the two countries who broke away from England.
I sometimes call Canadians Québécois just so I can make them rage

In hungarian it's Hollandia. The closest we have to the Netherlands is németalföld (german plains/lowland), but I dont think the dutch would like that (I guess). And its only used in historical context, it doesnt actually mean the Netherlands (eventhough it does 🤷♂️)

For the Puerto Rico/Cuba mixup, I remember that Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, so it has red stripes and a blue field for the star - just like the U.S. flag. And since Cuba was formerly a U.S. territory but left the U.S. in rebellion, the colours are swapped - just like a rebel.

I'm currently using similar tricks to remember Hiragana characters. Like "na" looks like a nun praying, "wa" looks kind of like a harpooned whale, "ru" is holding a ruby, "nu" looks like a bowl of noodles, "tsu" looks like a nose and sounds like a sneeze, "hi" looks like a laughing smile (AKA hehehe), etc. Super helpful! 😁
I remember finding it extremely fortuitous how the character for "n" looks a lot like a cursive lowercase n

Oh... The Hungry Hungary joke again... As a Hungarian, I always laugh on it.
To remember the italian flag: Just remember the origin history of the pizza ( the Margherita pizza) which says that in June 1889 the pizzaiolo Pizzeria Brandi's chef, invented a dish called "Pizza Margherita" in honor the Queen of Italy, and the Italian unification, since toppings are tomato (red), mozzarella (white) and basil (green), You learn and eat something good at the same time

The Polish flag is easy to remember, just think of Polandball... and then remember that it's wrong.

For Romania and Chad-a good way to remember is that the skin color of people from Chad is darker than Romania and the shade of blue is darker on the flag.

I am Pole and when I sometimes meet a person who can't remember the order of Russkaya flag I just tell them that Russian flag is a rip-off of our (polish) flag but they simply put the blue stripe through the middle to fool us that they didn't steal our flag. It always helps,

Fun fact. Besides white and red (crimson), sapphire blue was the third (mostly unofficial) colour of Poles and Poland. But the colours order was white, crimson and sapphire. :P But etymology of Russian flag is quite funny because when tsar Peter I the Great was in Holland and saw theirs red, white and blue flag he decided that this colours will look good on Russian navy but he just swapped the order. :D

@@evzenvarga9707 Actually Poland and Bohemia since middle ages used mostly white and red in their symbols. And yes, original Bohemia flag is white and red (but red have different shade than Poland and different proportions). The blue triangle supposed to symbolise Slovakia in Czechoslovakia. But when Czechoslovakia fell apart Czech leaders realised that Czech flag is extremely similar to Polish one and stayed with the Czechoslovakian flag. Actually more sense would have replacing blue with yellow, which is colour of Moravia and Silesia.

The bars of the Belgian flag are vertical because they had to "put up" with the Germans.
For knowing the difference between the flags of Romanian and Chad, I imagine that since Chad is a less developed, more unstable country the blue has a harsher and darker shade to it. And since Romania is more developed and stable, it's blue has a lighter tint to it.

A good way to remember the Irish flag is thinking of the green Irish being from the left side, and the orange British being from the right side of the British Isles.
How i memorize flags:

How to remember France: Blue: Waters of the Channel White: je suis surrender Red: Blood from the wars
Your trick is mostly good for remembering France, although France has won more wars than Americans have given them for (and that's an American speaking! William the Conqueror won against England, the French helped the US in the American Revolution, and Napoleon won a lot of wars). Although I have gotten the French flag well memorized myself, I have also heard a historical explanation for the creation of France's tricolor that can be used to remember it's pattern: blue and white are the colors of Paris, and it surrounds the color white (the color of France's royal family, even when not losing battles), referencing the King of France being moved from Versailles to Paris in 1789 (Paris surrounding the King), two years before the first French tricolor was created. This history can help remember the flag of France without offending Frenchmen (both because of the previously mentioned victories and because of _le_ _Resistance!)._
Bulgaria is also known for roses, so I guess you could imagine the sea of blood is just a sea of rose petals..?

Indonesian Flag: Our flag is same as Monaco, except that Our flag is longer to the side than Monaco. And the way we have our flag is cool af, we just striped Dutch flag on the blue one and then we have our flag.
If remembering country flags is hard imagine how difficult must be learning and remembering all Hiragana and Katakana letters/symbols and most of the more Kanji symbols

*Denmark:* Oh Denmark? Denmark borders Germany right? You know who else has borders with Germany? Switzerland. Switzerland does. Think about it. It all makes sense now.

*The Flag of Puerto Rico:* It's Cuba! But it's American!

I see where you're coming from, but the US flag is really not a good flag In my opinion. It's not as ugly as the NZ flag, but it's got nothing on flags such as South Africa, Japan or (for comedies sake) Wales. Not trying to say anything political or whatever, but I just really hate the design of the US flag.

It was a joke ;) I'm German and I only called the US flag perfect, because that's what the stereotypical American would say. I do however think it's a really neat design... I think we're just too used to it at this point, to really appreciate it. But my favourite flag is still the United Nations one. Looks like something out of Star Trek. So promising.

Hi Random Person, I like to think that Luxembourg's colours are slightly lighter and more babyish than the Netherland's because they're like their smaller and cuter baby brother.
P.S. As for Romania and Chad it's a bit harder, but I guess Romania's blue is slightly lighter because their flag is older and the colour has faded a little, whereas Chad's is newer and so the colour is fresher.
All the Slavic countries (jokes btw):
Poland: It's an electrode but without facial features.
Czech Republic: Okay we take Poland and go Triangle Time!
Russia: Snow from Siberia, Blue is like water and water is a liquid and so is vodka (very bad but i couldn't come up with anything) and finally the remnants of the USSR.
Slovakia: The same as Russia but add that nice coat of arms.
Slovenia: Take Slovakia but stretch up the dimensions a bit and remove their COA and add your own, make it smaller.
Croatia: Someone decided to play Chess on the Netherlands' flag.
Belarus: There's a carpet. And the green is from Chernobyl.
Ukraine: It's blue for rivers, but the yellow is from Chernobyl.
B&H: It's like a dream goal but within a flag, Bosnia looks like they can join the EU but they haven't, so their flag is made to look like it.
Macedonia/FYROM: Take Japanese Empire's flag but make it a yellow sun in a red devil sky.
Serbia: RUSSIA UPSIDE DOWN, and coat of arms for added kebab removal powers.
Montenegro: There's no mountain. Or negro for that matter.
Bulgaria: Ketchup under veggies under garlic sauce.
I might be totally wrong with this but i think it's something in countryballs (could be totally wrong though)
It's about Serbia's ethnic cleansing against Bosniaks, who eat kebabs sometimes I guess.

Flag of Australia and of New Zealand, Australia was the first of the two to be colonised into the British Empire so they have the more basic flag, just white stars.
New Zealand on the other hand was younger and therefore built on the Aussie flag to have white and red coloured stars. Also Australia is larger so has more stars on it.

I learned the difference between the Montenegrin and Albanian flags because I was taught that Montenegro is better than Albania, so they have a pretty golden eagle while the Albanians have a simple black one (no offense to Albanians)

I knew an Estonian man who told me the flag was snow, then the dark trees, and then the sky. He then showed me a picture of Estonia that fit that description perfectly. They live in a tricolor world.

Switzerland is landlocked (on maps) and the cross on its flag does not touch the border so its technically "landlocked"
Denmark has a coastline (on maps) and the cross on its flag touches the border so it technically has a "coastline"

When I was a kid I spent hours drawing every flag. I'd use the dictionary for reference, and I would draw every flag on their own sheet of paper. Now I know nearly every country's flag.
Good ones! I live in the Netherlands and you're absolutely spot on about it being flat with nothing. But somehow I always had trouble remembering the exact color order of flags of our neighbouring countries. For Belgium an analogy with beer would probably be more fitting, but I don't see a way of making that work.
I guess you could be like, black beer, yellow beer, bloody death from over-drinking.
Doesn't really work, since you usually won't drink blond beer after dark beer. Also, if you just want to get drunk, don't waste great Belgium beer but drink some Dutch horse piss like Heineken ;-)
(I may be Dutch and more than anything we like to make fun of Belgium, but the Belgians do actually beat us at everything important in life: beer, food, music and now even football).
A German is drinking a beer, but he's already so drunk that he vomits a sea of blood into his beer and then coughs up his liver.

I was going down Hastings in Vancouver, when I saw a little corner of an intersection with 1 tree and a bunch of homeless people (it's Hastings Street). The tiny little sliver of sidewalk was called 'Pigeon Park'. This made me wonder what other stupid parks/public attractions there are in the world. I am too lazy to research this stuff on my own, but I thought it would be cool if you were to make a video like this.
-I just remember them based on what they look like, I am a sensible person that just forgets the annoying and remembers it directly just as my mind does with the world map, political and physical.-

As for the national flag of Malaysia (my country), I remember the South China Sea (dark blue canton with yellow crescent and 14-point star) and candy cane (red-and-white stripes)!
The German flag could also stand for the transition from Nazism to Communism (DDR) to Liberal Democracy, black being associated with Fascism, red with Communism, and yellow with Liberalism
I memorized all flags when I was like 5, and how I did was that my parents keep buying these flag poster things, so I naturally familiarized them.

Malaysia: Likes America but is muslim so american flag but instead of stars theres the muslim symbol
Indonesia: Land is wide, so flag is wider (to different from Monaco's flag), and Red for ketchup and White for rice because they're the most served dish.

I find it easier to just remember one base country (such as Germany) and then think of all the other similar flags as "backwards" or "horizontal" versions of Germany. Repeat for other similar flags.
My trick to learning flags is just to watch so many videos about flags that i perfectly remember them

Trick to remember the flag of Seychelles:
The Blue, Yellow and Red in the flag makes the flag of Romania.
The Red, White and Green in the flag makes the flag of Hungary.

(2:50) The way I remember the Hungarian flag is that it's a traffic light, but with white instead of yellow. Then when you hand the Hungarian flag vertically, you take the left side and flip it to the top, and then mirror it. So when you read the colours from top-left to bottom-right (like you read text), the colours should go red-white-green regardless if it's horizontal or vertical. But the Italian flag is in the other way around; green-white-red.

Having lexical-color synesthesia makes this SO HARD cause letters and words just have inherent colors to me. The word "Russia" is red, but if I break it down it goes "red, yellow, blue, yellow" and there is NO YELLOW in the flag lmao
Fun fact: in the Bulgarian flag the red actually DOES stand for blood. It's for the blood of the rebels and revolutionaries helping the country free itself from Ottoman rulership. The green is for our gorgeous nature and the white, sounding kinda contradictory, is for the peacefulness of our people. The red is the blood of sacrifice for the country because of an enemy, but the white is for peaculfness.
