  • Do you use curly tail grubs, like the Gulp Swimming Mullet?
    These are great baits for redfish, trout, snook, and flounder.
    They’re also my go-to baits for juvenile tarpon in backwater creeks.
    I’ve been using them a lot recently and one question that seems to always come up is, “How do you rig them?”
    In this video, you’ll learn how to rig them, as well as:
    - What size and color jig head to use
    - How to rig them if the tail keeps getting caught on the hook
    - What not to do you rig these grubs
    - And much more
    Have any questions about rigging curly tail grubs?
    Do you rig them any other way?

    Just purchased a container of chartreuse gulps for tomorrow's surf fishing for flounder, or trout or redfish! Thanks for the video! Couldn't remember the best way to rig them!

    Tony, do you use a loop knot to tie the jig to the leader? Thanks.

    Tail biters are the worst with the gulp, so I switched to zman curly tailz

    I already know how to rig these but I just wanted to say how amazing these lures are! In Melbourne Australia, the snapper and bream smash these! I won’t use anything else in saltwater!

    Gulp swimming mullet is one of my go to baits. I like to use it under a popping cork also.

      Under a float how do you rig the bait ?

      @@carlsmith9026 I either hook it the first way he showed in the video, just position your knot so the bait hangs more horizontal and not too vertical. I'll aslo sometimes just hook just the front through the nose.

    Tony. When and in what conditions would you choose this in lieu of a paddle tail shad or is it simply another choice to have options? Thanks

    I usually use a 4 inch gulp as a teaser when fishing for fluke in the surf and a bucktail on the bottom. However, I would like to also fish the gulp as my only lure (no bucktail) for calm surf. What jighead and hook size would you recommend in 3/8oz and 1/2oz?

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  Рік тому

      We'd recommend the Hoss Helix Weighted Hooks or the Zman Trout Eyez Jig Heads. Both of those (and several other options) are available on our website: fishstrong.com/collections/terminal-tackle-1
      We also have some great articles on fluke fishing on our website. Just go to www.saltstrong.com/fishing-tips/ and search for fluke.

    Is that a 2/0 or 3/0 hook you use on that swimming mullet?

    What’s the difference between the mullets and grubs

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  10 місяців тому

      That is what Gulp! refers to them as and other manufacturers call them grubs. They are similar and often the same

    • @TonyCantShoot

      @@Saltstrong I saw gulp also makes a mullet and grub, the only difference I noticed was the actual body but the tails seemed the same. Based off my logic wouldnt they perform the same since it’s the same tail? I guess it would just have a different profile

    You talk about skin hooking soft plastics in other videos and here you say you need a large gap between the grub and hook point. You say that the tail can get caught in the hook while retrieving and then say that the tail is back behind the bait during the retrieve. You give so much good information but don’t show it in a pool for instance. I’m guessing that the tails get hooked during the cast, not the retrieve? I’d love to see what you’re talking about as far as hook placement too far back vs the correct placement. Love the videos but until I get a lot more experienced, I leave equally confused as educated sometimes

    No one uses gulp anymore. Better off just throwing $ directly in trash.
