    1. 0:55 For every hand you start with is worth 20 fu (absolute lowest amount of fu possible)
    2. 1:02 General hands are worth 30+ fu
    3. 1:30 If you win by 'ron', another player's discard to win, and with a closed/concealed hand (+10 fu)
    4. 1:58 If you win by 'tsumo' either closed or open (+2 fu)
    5. 2:18 Penchan wait in tenpai (1,2,(3) or (7),8,9) a single sequence tile (+2 fu)
    6. 2:41 Kanchan wait (2,(3),4), a single middle wait sequence (+2 fu)
    7. 2:53 Tanki wait (6),6,7,8,9,(9)) single or double pair wait (+2 fu)
    8. 3:29 Ryanman, a two sided wait (1),2,3,(4)) with either 1 or 4 wait is worth 0 fu
    9. 3:44 Shanpon, a double pon wait (3,3,(3), 9,9,(9)) worth 0 fu
    10. 4:07 Sequences are not worth any fu, but triplets (pon) or quads are (kan)
    11. 4:22 Simple Triplet (2,2,2 thru 8,8,8) are worth less than terminal triplets (1,1,1 and 9,9,9)
    12. 4:29 Terminal Triplet (1,1,1 and 9,9,9) are worth the same as honor tiles (G,G,G), (R,R,R), (W,W,W), (E,E,E), (S,S,S), (W,W,W), and (N,N,N)
    13. 4:50 Open Simple Triplet (2,(2),2 thru 8,(8),8) (+2 fu)
    14. 5:05 Closed Simple Triplet (2,2,2 thru 8,8,8) already in your hand (+4 fu)

    17. 5:53 Open Simple Kan (2,2,(2),2 thru 8,(8),8,8) (+8 fu)
    - open triplet, pon, (+2 fu) multiplied by 4 with a called open kan equals +8 fu
    18. 6:14 Closed Simple Kan (2,2,2,2 thru 8,8,8,8) drawing the 4th tile from the wall (+16 fu)
    - closed triplet worth (+4 fu), but upgrade to a kan times by another 4 equals +16 fu

    - open triplet worth 4, open kan worth +16 fu
    - closed triplet worth 8, closed kan worth +32 fu
    - most fu is from a closed terminal/honor kan worth +32 fu
    20. Closed Terminal/Honor Kan worth (+32 fu) (1,1,1,1 or 9,9,9,9), (G,G,G,G), (R,R,R,R), (W,W,W,W), (E,E,E,E), (S,S,S,S), (W,W,W,W), (N,N,N,N)

    24. 8:19 East Seat (Dealer) and East Round then a pair of East Wind tiles is worth (+4 fu) (E,E) or South Seat/South Round a pair of South Wind tiles is worth (+4 fu) (S,S)
    25. 8:34 Open Finfu or any open hand without containing any fu is still worth (+30 fu.)
    **Any OPEN HAND that contains no fu is rounded up from 2 fu to 30 fu. This is known as Open Pinfu.**

    I had to cross-reference three different sources to see whether a triplet in a closed hand whose third tile was gained by Ron counted as open or closed for the purposes of Fu. (Turns out that triplet counts as open for Fu-counting.) Wish that was mentioned here, though I'm glad you talked about it in the video for San Ankou.

      I'm assuming you're on the mahjong substory, that one's ridiculous.
      You get 3 cheat items for mahjong per playthrough one in the office right under mahjong kamuro another on the top floor of the gambling den building all the way to the left when you go up the stairs and the final one you get for completing Komaki's substories.
      They're basically meant to be used for that substory and the 2 tournaments.

    Your hand is closed and you Ron and get 10 points. Is this this 10 points in addition to fu in your concealed hand (i.e. pung or kong of dragons, your wind or table wind), thus making total fu more than 30 points?

    • @LightGrunty
      @LightGrunty  Рік тому

      Yes, assuming the hand is not pinfu or chiitoitsu, then other sources of fu will be added causing the total to be above 30.

    For a draw game or ryuukyoku, when does a karaten (empty tenpai) hand get to collect on noten penalty rule? Should players try to avoid karaten, and if so why?

    • @LightGrunty
      @LightGrunty  Рік тому

      In modern rule sets, karaten still counts as tenpai and can collect tenpai payments at ryuukyoku. A karaten hand cannot win because all of the winning tiles are discarded or used up in other players' calls already, but there is no special penalty for being karaten and therefore no specific reason to avoid it.

    for the ryanmen on 3:31, wouldn't the iiman (one man) give you fu since it is an edge wait?

    • @LightGrunty
      @LightGrunty  5 років тому +4

      No, a ryanmen wait is never worth any fu in riichi mahjong. Only the type of wait is considered for the fu calculation, not the tiles on which you were waiting.

      @@LightGrunty thank you for clearing that up. I was a bit confused on that when I noticed that two man and three man can be waiting on a one man. And I wasn't sure if that was a penchan hidden in a ryanmen or not. Many thanks.

      @@D0land0_94 It really doesn't take that long to calculate the score. Even if you have to take it step by step, it should only take a minute. And I promise it gets much easier once you're used to the yaku and how much han each of them are worth.

      @@D0land0_94 That's good to hear. And simply using han values for easy scoring makes sense for players who are just starting out. I've even seen players use poker chips instead of point sticks to keep track of points in that case.

    1:20 in. Sorry my eyes are glazing over already. Hate it when the early parts of instructional type videos just mention several things early on, then say "we're going to talk about that later." To me it's distracting and unnecessary.
