i am from HK and i am still learning the various dishes of dim sum, it is truly authentic Guangzhou food eaten by ordinary citizens on a daily basis. the more noisy the restaurant, the better. Dim sum places are often left to your own demise, so me being a more introverted person, still had to take up the courage to place my order/wash the plates down with hot tea before eating etc.

Seasoned chicken feet are imo the most underrated item. Like, I get it. I was initially grossed out as well but once you start getting a taste of it, you slowly start forgetting the weird idea of "eww, I'm eating feet". It's perfectly cooked and seasoned, and it's just cartilage that comes off easily because of the way it's cooked. More people should give it a try!

Har gow, shumai, char siu bao, chicken feet, lo mai gai, pork and century egg congee, cheong fun, Hong Kong egg tarts, and jiandui with red bean or black sesame inside are all of my go-to choices for dim sum! I think lo mai gai and pork and century egg congee often fly under a lot of peoples radar. The one I go to often also have Cantonese soy sauce fried noodles which you'd think would be a heavy dish, but it surprisingly wasn't since it was just mushrooms and onions.

I would always have dim sum for breakfasts, since my dad’s friend owns a chain of restaurants that served a variety of food, it was.. easier for us then others to go and have some dim sum. I was about 2 when I first tried dim sum. Fell in love with it instantly, became VERY addicted to it, and now that I’m a bit older, I try to not eat as many dim sum as I used to. Maybe once in a month, but nowadays I treat dim sum like a special food instead of treating it like a food I eat everyday for every meal.

I absolutely love dim sum. One of my favorite foods by far. For those of you who don’t know, dim sum is very much like tapas. It’s many small trays with each tray containing a few servings. If you need more servings get more than one tray. It is meant to be shared with family and friends. The term dim sum translates literally to tiny gifts/treats. I was told it originated back when Chinese emperors had concubines. One, in particular, wanted to gain favor with the emperor so every day she would make the emperor a special treat. Eventually she became his favorite.

Try Egyptian food , I recommend koshari, Molokhia, and falafel. Koshari is a traditional Egyptian staple, mixing pasta, rice and brown lentils, and topped with a zesty tomato sauce, garlic vinegar and garnished with chickpeas and crispy fried onions.Molokhia, also Mulukhia is a green soup made from minced Jews/Jute mallow leaves and cooked in broth.Falafel, or ta'ameya as we call it in Egypt, is an all-time favorite street food. In most parts of the Middle East, falafel is made with ground chickpeas. However, in Egypt, we make it with dried fava beans.

Loh mei gai (idk how it’s actually spelled)
But it’s a southern version of sticky rice that is wrapped in lotus leaves other than bamboo leaves - is very good and I recommend
Si jup pai guik - spare ribs steamed with black bean sauce
This one is also very good and recommend
Char sui bao - steam bbq pork bun
There is also the deep fried Mochi balls with red bean filling are also really good
There are a lot more, but these are the big things my family usually gets besides the ones you already mentioned

The best thing to do is get the normal and panfried and mix them- the sauce evens out and you get an amazing mix of soft and crunch noodles that's the perfect mouthfeel. The first time i had dim sum i was so confused. We didn’t know that they would just be pushing carts around and ask each table what they wanted from the cart. For 10 minutes we were legit waiting for the menu and was rejecting the carts as they pass by, till I realized we just take what they offer as they approach you lol. It was stressful not knowing that system at first and they didn’t speak English so that didn’t help at all because no one explained what was happening. I’m a bit scared to go back because of that experience but i will definitely be down to try again in the future.

The way the waiters were serving the Fried rice is actually cool cause the only person in my family who can do it is my dad (My family used to own a Chinese restaurant)

Steamed rice rolls are my absolute favourite dim sum. However the ones at yumcha restaurants all ways seemed a bit off. I much prefer the ones made on streets of Guangzhou. Tastes so much better than the ones at restaurants, also in Qingyuan they grow their own rice and makes steamed rice rolls and rice noodles fresh every single day, so those are extra good combined with the use of mountain springs.

I’ve only been to a proper dim sum place with like all the carts and stuff a couple times. I went with my friend and their family. I think they really like Chinese food because I’ve been to a Chinese restaurant like 5 times with them but never gone anywhere else. I’ve never gone with my family because dim sum is usually only a lunch thing and my family usually only goes out to eat for dinner. I really want to go again though. It was so good.
