This has been getting a huge amount of attention since red shirt man made a video on copyright law. I like red shirt man, and the video is good, but I gotta clear some stuff up for the sake of my notification box.
The copyright claim placed on this video was not made by Weezer or by someone with the rights to their music. You can find Funke mentioning this on the main channels community tab. I didn't follow the fallout but other comments seem to pin it on some smalltime Brazilian company that thrives off this. I am happy to see the claim has since been removed.
There was the irony of a video about demonotization getting demonotized. Now there is a second layer, the irony of people getting miffed about incorrect critique of copyright law, when the critique was in fact about incorrect use of copyright law all along. (and yeah I know weezer should still have the right to dunk on this in some interpretations, but they haven't, cause we all just tryna be cool here and the cover slaps)

Ah yes back when UA-cam rewind was a thing. Despite how laughably bad they were there is something to be missed about people coming together making fun of their corporate attempts of some inspirational or heartwarming video that often feel flat on its face.

The whole thing is great, but the part from around 2:24 onward where he just covers the actual song is really something spectacular.
You can't funpost an entire mixtape without some passion for music and you can hear in his voice how much he resonates with this song in particular, I hope he keeps developing it with some more covers or his own music, make a F3NKe for it.

It’s so fucking beautiful, thank you so much for this. You can really feel the spirit he puts into this experience. It’s so sad for very simple reasons that you can look so deeply into looking at the humorous intentions. I love it, so much. The satire is so emotional and wonderful, this is an experience that you can enjoy very few times until it gets truly dull. It all works so damn well. FUNKe, you were never off the track, you were always on it, and I hope this song showed you, that they’re better things out there and your doing very well. Thank you for this masterpiece.

Unironically I enjoy this more than the original, cause the final chorus hits so much harder when its "new" lines (at least for the parody) since you aren't hearing them throughout the entire song.

You can really feel FUNKe slowly loosening up and straying slightly more from the original song throughout the song, culminating in his slightly different bridge and final chorus. It's pretty cool, and I wish more covers would differ from the original in ways like that.

The original is a rock song with distorted guitairs and drums.

I enjoy a lot that there are many subtle differences between all the different outros that you've done, with this one not just being a full song, but also bringing in all the old pieces, from the "please do not go, please do not go, demonetize me and my UA-cam show - I need money i can blow" to "please do not strike, please do not strike, I promise you that I am playing this live, I need money to survive," to not only make it more diverse but also to bring back the people that kinda just sat there looping the old outros from his videos...

You can tell by his singing that he tried his hardest to get people to enjoy what they've waited so long for, and he truly hit that while enjoying it himself too.

I feel like I should say something. You can't make a song for only the money, or some other profit. It is always is done with passion. I feel like you can hear Justyn's voice and emotion resonate with this particular song in the entire mixtape. Mainly near the end where it turns in to a cover for the original song. He sounds as if he is going through something. I can also see the original song cover near the end as a thank you to everyone who stuck with him this long to remember that outro. Keep up the work, Justyn. Don't care if you post it here, on your main channel, or on a new channel made specifically for music. Just keep doing it. It's good.

My favourite part about this is that he doesn't call it a parody. It's a cover. A parody is defined as "an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect." Comedic effect. This isn't for comedic effect. This is real.

A parody, by definition, is an imitation that exaggerates the original for comedic effect, yes, but in musical terms a parody is just an imitation and doesn't particularly have to exaggerate for comedic effect. I still think this song is so f-ing good and beautiful and deserves all the acclaim it can get, but it's not a cover cuz he made his own lyrics. The only time this would count as a cover is when Funke uses the original chorus at the end to give a homage to the original.

I remember watching your videos when I was younger (probably only a year or two, iirc), and I realize that I’ve changed so much from who I was then. I saw this in my YT recommended and so I was like “heck I’m sick anyhow, why not”. and about two thirds of the way in, i was overwhelmed with nostalgia. it’s crazy but it took me back to a different time. I remember listening to your outro back then, not knowing who it was who sang it. I remember humming the tune and trying to remember the words, but I never could get the words perfect. to hear those words again in perfect clarity, after knowing more about music and life, it really quite moved me. and for that, I cannot thank you enough, funke. :D
